Well I'd say I'm a mix of a few types of doll owner: The Doll Collector: with my 5.4 dolls at this point (5 whole, and two floating heads) I am a bit of a collector I guess, I normally weigh pro's and con's of doll's that I'd like to have,But I know I am also very capable of impuls buy's when it comes to dolls. The Doll Storyteller: I am a huge Storytelling owner though the story's sometimes come before the doll, some the second I see the doll, and some after the doll makes it home to me. they all have their own name, background, story and so on. The Doll Butterfly I have a *cough* Collosal *cough* touch of butterfly, I love to talk, look, debate, fantasise, dream, and admire dolls so much i sometimes drive people crazy with them (or get others hooked on them as well ) but other than that I am also : A Doll Diversity lover: when I am done I will have dolls from 6 diferent company's and every intention to but dolls from even more company's I love the diverse looks of dolls and will probably keep collectin from diverse company's A Doll Creature Keeper: Non of my dolls are Human, thay are all forms of fantasy creatures: an Elf, a Faun, a Dark Angel, a Demon, A Ghost (and once I have them done) An Androide, and a Fairy. I simply adore the fantasy based dolls, I will search, buy or even mod to get fantasy dolls. and i have no intention of getting a "Human" BJD Alright end of Ramble
I treat mine as if they were both my children and friends The authority figure that will also play with them. Even though I want them to look nice, I am not over careful with my dolls. I want to be able to use them and not worry about how fragile they are. The larger dolls live on their shelf, and the little ones have their rooms to live in. I love moving them around their house and then taking pictures of the scene. Taking photos is a very large part of my doll world.
I'm a combination of the collector, photographer, planner and storyteller. Collector: I have 3 latis and 2 pukis, but my wishlist is a mile long, always growing and always changing. I also prefer unique or limited edition versions Photographer: My dolls are by far my favorite thing to photograph. They're the reason I got my DSLR, and the reason I'm always trying to improve Planner: I'm a compulsive planner. I have lists for everything.... Storyteller: I love to give my dolls huge detailed backstories. I have more characters planned than I have dolls on my wishlist, which is a lot if you saw my real wish list..
The horrifying owner lol. i drag my doll all sorts of places, drop him, throw him at people (hehehe ^^' ) and put him in my purse. and you'd think its because its cheap, no its because i like to carry thing i like around. i keep a dictionary and a stapler in my purse to :/. you should see my poor beat up $500 dollar collectors psp
I'm a doll collector. The more the merrier. But I'm also fussed about doll types so not just any doll will do. ^^ If I'm not going to want to spend any amount of time with it, then it's not going to be part of my collection, no matter how easily obtainable it is.
The Doll Collector Cause I love dolls! The Doll Storyteller I have written and still writing stories and I want to give me fav character bodies. :3 Though it's not 100% all of 'em are mine. >.> The Doll Planner Yeah, I can't believe it but I am! O.O When it comes to my hobbies, I calculate everything! Now why can't I do that to my other stuff? =.=
Eh, lets see... The Doll Photographer I'm definitely, first and foremost this, I love, LOVE taking photographs of them! The way they just come to life in pictures makes me go all And it makes me feel damn proud of myself for being the one who captured that 'alive' moment! The Doll Storyteller I do give my dolls personalities and such, but never really do any 'photostories' of them, maybe I should try it out one day. The Doll Favoritist Erm, abit of this, I do prefer a certain doll size compared to others. The Doll Mommy (more like Obsessively Careful Owner) In a way that I immediately rubbed out any lil' stains on them, fuss over the split-ends on their wig and making sure they are on a cushioned surface when sitting down, oh, and I never, ever let them get hit by direct sunlight if I can help it, no no no. And when I see miniature stuff, I'll be like 'OMG, DOLL PROPS!!'... -_-'' and when other people are handling my dolls, I watch them like a hawk. The Doll Planner I print out my 'wish list' on doll company sites, so that I can calculate the total amount and plan which to get first and which to cross out.
right now i own 4 dolls, two i have plans of selling. the ones that i'm going to keep are my NS dollmore kid aiden: lucan and my suntan dollmore kid momo: momo (ha ha ha unoriginal but it fits). i plan on adding to the trio with a WS dollmore kid pado to complete the dollmore colorwheel and to accomplish my dream of owning the first three dolls i fell in love with!!! as a owner you could say i'm adventurous XD i like to take my dolls out, have done mods and face-ups, and make (fail) at sewing, i also knit and crochet for the dollies. i also consider them to be the best toys ever since you can make them out to be what i want to be!!!
im a doll admirer and a doll artist because i dont own a brand doll but im almost done making one! haha, so i dont really HAVE one (that is complete) but i am making it. so...im both :P haha
Absolutely! I'm not precious about them at all. They are playthings, I never put them away and am constantly moving them, posing them, dressing them and doing new faceups. For me that is the whole purpose of them. I don't even care if they yellow, it shows I have loved them. I'd say I was... --The Doll Artist "To enhance the beauty already there creates life of its own." and... --The Doll Mommy "I love them to death and that's all there is to it X3 !"
I'm an other, I suppose. I've changed the way I care for my dolls a bit. I took my first one with me like... everywhere for a while. Now I'm paranoid of him breaking- and my others- so they're going to be staying home a lot more. They've always been kept out of the sun, and if they're not in their boxes, they're posed sitting somewhere safe. With my door closed so neither of my pets get in and mess with them. I have a group of my characters that I want to get- so once that's complete, all of my dolls will be basically linked in some way. They all have individual stories, histories, and futures, and their personalities are very distinct. I like to create things for them- clothes and such- and posing and photographing them~ I guess that's just the kind of owner I am~!
I think I am a little bit of all of those things. I love meticulously coordinating photo shoots but I also baby my dolls sometimes. Other times I just sit with them and play with poses and props, dressing and undressing them and posing them together.
I'm mostly a photographer of my dolls. I don't have much free time to play with them, so whenever I can I make some photoshoots, and that's when I play a litttle
I guess I'm a mixture of a few of those~ I'm a photographer, a character-maker, a parent, a talker, a seamstress, what-have-you! I think the only things I DONT do with my doll is just.. let him sit. Dolls are meant to be spoiled!
I've only got one doll with one more on the way, but I'm definitely a combo plate as well. I'm very hands on playing with her, dressing her, and just generally hanging out with her. I love taking pictures of her and making things for her!
I'm the doll mommy. I love my girls and plan just like a mom who is expecting when I know my new dolls are coming. Getting their clothes, wigs, eyes and other nicknacks so they can love their home as soon as they get out of the box. My dolls are my children.
I own 2. I'm: The Photographer - i love taking pics The Artist - i like sewing for them and using them as free subjects for drawing The Storyteller - I like them having a life too, i've always been this way with my toys The Butterfly/Admirer - I love going to meets, seeing new dolls and people who love them. And one doll i treat more like a cabinet baby because she is a limited but if the other one falls i don't freak out as much.
The closest one for me is "the doll storyteller." I just love that I can hold the character that I made and already loved in my hands as a physical object. I have a great time making them look just right, despite that I'm... really slow with it! The dolls help me think of tiny details to enhance the character. It helps me with my (very slow) novel in progress. I'm also a doll artist though. I draw the characters the dolls portray all the time, and will use the doll to help me. I also like to do faceups and sew, although I'm a beginner. I don't think of them as companions or friends, but they are precious, precious things that make me smile and inspire me.
No cabinet babies here ^__^ I like to have my boy around with me and take photos all the time. I've taken him around with me a couple times, too
Certainly a Storyteller, even if they don't have a very coherent story. I have some mommy aspects, but it's not really parental... More like doll roommate or something.
I think I am a mix of the following: The Doll Photographer, The Doll Artist, The Doll Butterfly I sold one of my more rare dolls (a Volks Michele), just so I could get a nicer camera for the sole purpose of photographing my boys. And what a great decision it was! I love my new DSLR! I also love painting dolls (mine and others) and love socializing with other doll owners. Meetups are something I love about this hobby!
I'm mostly a mix between the Doll Planner and Doll Butterfly, but I eek into other realms too. They sit out, and I'm not all that afraid of other people touching them so long as I know them. Sometimes Nashi will sit at my desk while I'm working, or I'll have her out while I'm watching a movie. I can't imagine my dolls being cabinet babies. That's no fun for me at all.
I would call myself a "focused collector". My dolls have also been my photography models in the past, though I rarely do that anymore.
I know what my boy can take, I'm not SUPER delicate with him, but I'm not throwing him around. He's my release really, when there is nothing to take pictures of take pictures of Noah. I really do Mommy him a lot, but I suppose I'm a combination of all of them.
lol, awsome. I'm somewhere between "Storyteller" and "collector" because I can't have too many characters or dolls to put them into!
'Doll Mommy' and 'Doll Storyteller' are exactly up my alley. I only have one, but I intend to have a few more when I get the savings. I'll more than likely spread out how/when I buy, so that each doll get's their due of spoiled attention. lol
I consider myself a combination of a collector and a photographer. Collecting and photographing are just my favourite parts of the hobby and I like too many dolls to keep a small group.
I am a mixture of types. I bought a better camera primarily to photograph my dolls. I love creating rooms to photograph them in. I love to create stories for them.I am inspired by my dolls to try increasingly more difficult outfits for them. I have more tinies than any other type. I love modifying dolls and have learning to tdo my own faceups, mod by sanding and using apoxiesculpt. I almost always have a doll with me (none of my dolls have eyelashes because eyelashes don't travel well-trust me) and they have taken over the dining room of our house while waiting for my doll room to be remodeled.
--The Doll Photographer "Stunning and still, could anyone ask for a finer subject?" --The Doll Storyteller "And this one's Maria Jane, a character of mine..." --The Doll Favoritist "I only like very specific xxx-type dolls!" --The Doll Butterfly "I love sharing and talking and meeting about dolls! ^^ " --The Doll Mommy "I love them to death and that's all there is to it X3 !" I think I imagine myself as a mix of all these. My dad's taught me a lot about photography, so of course I plan to do that (as I have no BJD yet). I'm also a writer, so I imagine myself doing something major with that, eventually. Plus, I'm a bit of a favoritist, since I only like certain types of dolls (most that go towards the less expensive side). And I'm a butterfly because it's great to have hobbies to share among others. And I'll probably be like a doll mom, too, since I've been the doll mommy to my other dolls when I was a kid.
I'm a mix of Storyteller, Butterfly, Mommy, and DIY Artist! My dolls all have specific characters with detailed backstories and histories. I love talking with other people about dolls and getting to know theirs. I love my dolls and take them out all the time, mostly to the craft/fabric store. Most importantly, my doll collection combines all the artisic things I loveto do. Painting, sewing, building, photography, etc. focused into one hobby. The artist in me loves the asthetics, and the DIY nerd in me loves the customizing possibilities! In what other hobby can you spend $500 on something in mint condition, take it into the garage, and just mod the hell out of it? It's like customizing cars, only cheaper and takes less space!
Probably primarily storyteller. I collect dolls as shells for original characters, with that comes working on dolls to make them look and function correctly for the characters. I also use the dolls as a sort of therapy. I focus on them when I am depressed and they help me with my social anxiety and sensory issues when out in big groups. I also enjoy the social aspect. I've made some good friends this way and I enjoy getting together to talk about and work on the dolls (or just hang out).
Artsy/wanna-be artsy type owner. My dolls for me are primarily loved for the sake of photography, I love taking them out and taking random photos. Despite them being shells for my long time characters I'm not the story telling type. They are also used artsy in that I use them for drawing reference for anatomy to a degree, as well as they inspire me to try and be productive and creative when I try to make them clothes/jewelery or furniture and more! While I like to have them on display I'm more of a cuddly owner, I like to have them sit right by me when I'm doing things and will have them in my lap for no reason sometimes when I watch a movie or read.
Still am an Admirer for a while Want my first doll so bad. After that I guess I`ll become a combination of Artist+Storyteller+Mommy. I also want to learn sewing with the help of this new hobby.
ok well im realy all over the place i "play" with my dolls alot and i love to play with their hair (especialy mohair), im a lover in the larger sized dolls (60cm and up) which i find funny because im realy short and my 70cm doll is literaly half my hight. i am a doll photogapher,i just dont have much time to be one(and i never post my work which i realy shoule). i love talking to other doll owners and sometimes they look at me like im crazy when i just walk up to them and i say how cute their doll is. im realy loveing over my dolls, dispite the fact i constantly "play" with them i am very careful with them.....i think thats about it! awsome idea for a tread
I'm a doll mom and a doll butterfly. All my friends have seen my dolls at some point. And I'm always squealing "LOOK AT HOW CUTE THEY ARE!" I show off my dolls like how Major Hughes shows off his daughter...
Missing option: --The Doll Mad Scientist "Yes! YES!! My latest creation will make you the BEST DOLL EVER! WUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!" In some respects I love my doll to bits just to have sitting around looking cute and wearing cute clothes. In other respects I love the fact that some people get creeped out her. I also have strong interests in robotics and AI though, and quite happily aim to combine these interests with BJDs at some point. (This will no doubt make the doll more beautiful to me and more creepy to others)
Choices, huh~? I'd have to say I'm: Storyteller (I make up characters ALL the time), Artist (I draw said characters ALL the time), and I'm working on Photographer. I love doll photography but I'm certainly not a pro yet~ ... And doll Mommy! Who doesnt want to smother their resin babies with love and random clothes/toys~?! C:
What a fun thread! In my home, there are three bjds, as can be seen in my sig, a number of off-topic mostly fashion but not what I would call the super-fashion dolls (you know, sybarites, etc). I am also a serial crafter: sewing, spinning (yarn), knitting a bit of jewelry and crochet and photography. My original rationalization for my dollie purchases was in order to work on design and pattern drafting but, in reality, I play with my dolls. I design and make clothes and accessories. I love to photograph them. I sit on the floor of my craft room and play. There is nearly always a doll sitting on the couch with me. They are all named, but I haven't really spent time making characters or backgrounds for them. I've tried, but don't find that aspect particularly interesting. Its' more fun to me to make outfit, work on poses and take photos.
I love to cuddle with my two boys, but I don't consider them 'finished' since I haven't completed their character's outfits yet. Once I do finish them, they'll go everywhere with me and I'll be taking pics of them non-stop! ^^ So I'm between categories. ~Planner - 40% ~Artist - 30% ~Storyteller - 15% ~Mommy - 15%
Most of the time they are not in the dollroom but living with us in the livingroom. I like to see them being close to me although I haven't changed their clothes for some months now. There is too much to do in the house (we just started redecorating) and work in the front and back yard. With the webshop and a parttime job added there is barely some time left to give them the attention they should get. Soon everything will get better for them when we will be ready with working in and out the house. I can't wait to start sewing and knitting for them again Untill then they're having a cup of tea in their own livingroom where they sit on a real mini couch with a chaise longque attached to it and in the mini chair.
--The Doll Butterfly "I love sharing and talking and meeting about dolls! ^^ " I go to as many meet-ups as I can and they're just so fun! I love to talk about dolls and see everyone else's dolls too. --The Doll Mommy "I love them to death and that's all there is to it X3 !" I love each and every one of my dolls, and some others too... like my friends dolls and some on here too. --The Doll Photographer "Stunning and still, could anyone ask for a finer subject?" I take my camera everywhere I take my dolls. --The Doll Collector "Mufufu, more, MORE! The more the merrier!" This is sort of a combo between this one and the next one. It's not like I feel like I need more dolls just for the sake of having more, it's more like I need to get the rest of the characters and the rest of my current dolls families. --The Doll Storyteller "And this one's Maria Jane, a character of mine..." I wish I was good at writing, but I'm not. Each of my dolls has a short character background and maybe someday they will have a little more.
I'm a doll photographer. I don't play with them, I buy a lot of outfits, wigs and shoes and I change the clothes every week.
I, for the moment, am a Doll Admirer, but when I get my first boy, I'm sure I'm magically morph into a Doll Photographer/Artist/Storyteller. -primes camera-
I'd like to think I am a mixture of types. I LOVE photography. There are so many stunning pictures I just can't wait to take! But also, I would play with him and dress him up and take him places and have him keep me company while on road trips/car rides, or just while I'm on the computer! But also, if I could come up with a story, that would be awesome too! I would be protective and loving to the doll (just taking care and not being reckless) and plan out the money aspect. I could never just lock them away in a display case, if I spend the money and make the commitment to the doll I'll be careful with him but they are sort of a companion and I would want him to go with me to places and such. I also love to share with others pictures and information about the dolls! So overall, I think I'm a photographer, storyteller, mommy, butterfly and planner! Maybe one day I'll be a collector and artist!
I'm a combination of the Photographer, Artist, and Storyteller. My dolls like all my other hobbies are used to create. c:
Since having my own dolls, I think I'm much more the 'doll collector' than I am the 'photographer'. My last photostory was something like... 8-9 months ago, and while I do post pictures of my dolls here and there (whenever I find something interesting that would be a good doll backdrop) I don't do photostories. I'm not even sure if I will do one again just because of how vague the storyline for them is right now, and how one's character is still being reconstructed. As a 'doll collector' I love being able to get new dolls to populate my collection. The fact that they cost so much allows me to put some thought into their overall look so that I don't end up buying just because they look nice. Maybe I'm a 'doll storyteller' also, in that the dolls do have basic character relationships - they're brother and sister. I might also be a 'doll admirer' when it comes to LE molds. I really don't see myself going crazy and buying one of my own, but they look nice.
Right now an admirer, but my first doll is on its way. Since I already have a backstory for her, I'd say a storyteller!
I am absolutely a Doll Favouritist. There are very few sculpts I love, which has somehow resulted in multiples of my favourite sculpts in my collection. 8'D Other than that, I do enjoy storytelling and photography, but mostly, I just oogle my collection of my favourites. XD
Right now I'm a doll admirer.. No doll But I'd like to say that once my boy comes in the post, I'll definitely be a doll mommy
I'm a mix. xD --Artist (looove faceups and sewing) --Storyteller (my dolls start out as characters I've already had for a few years) --Mommy (self-explanatory :P) --Big Kid ("LOOK AT HIM, HE'S SOOOOO TINYYYY, here hold him!") --Thrifter ("And I bought this doll secondhand, so she was only x, then these shirts I bought off of etsy for way cheap, and I made those pants out of scrap fabric I had lying around..") --Mouse (opposite of the butterfly--it's not that I don't enjoy talking about them; I'm just content to admire them on my own! Validation from anyone else isn't necessary because just having them to look at and play with is enough for me. )
I would probably be put in the Storyteller since every time I get a new doll I have to make a character for them in an already existing story ^-^ But my dolls are really my companions when ever I get lonely, they help inspire me and make me happy when I feel sad.
Hmmm, I'd say I'm kind of a cross between the Planner and Storyteller, with a little of the Artist, Photographer and Butterfly mixed in. I do plan a lot, a LOT. To death. I always have specific lists or charts of things to be bought or done. XD Most of the dolls that were on my original plan are characters in my story...When I have more of them complete I'll probably start doing photostories with some regularity. I do try to add my own touch to my dolls, even if I don't paint them myself I try to make them things, and I go for a very specific look for each character. For now I photograph them with random pretty things or just on a whim...I enjoy taking them to dollmeets or talking about them of course... >w<
Doll Mommy!!!! I love my babies! I suck at photography, only one of them has a solid story, and I'm pretty picky with faces, but that's about it, so maybe just a hint of storyteller and favoritist dictator artist thing. They're like my little 2 foot children, I'm always 'primping' and fussing over their hair, outfits, and every little detail, and I love to hold them. They bring me silent joy. ^_^
The Doll Favoritist "I only like very specific xxx-type dolls!" AND The Doll Admirer I am very very very picky about dolls. Very. And I believe that this isn't a bad thing, but the description to "favoritism" is very negative. I do have a doll, but my actions follow that of a Doll Admirer. Though all in all, I'm every single one of them.
