What mythological character would you like to see as a doll?

medusa! a hydra would be cool too. imagine all those heads!

 

I would love to see the savage faeries Charlaine Harris has in her books. ;D I also liked the mermaids from the latest Pirates of the Caribbean, tho I was a bit dissapointed they had cutesy fangs. Figures, since vampires are so popular at the moment, but imo if a character is supposed to be a fierce predator they'd be better off with proper razor teeth than fangs (which imo are meant for puncturing rather than tearing flesh). Oh, the things I wonder sometimes... xD

Nothing wrong with fangs tho The bjd world definitely needs more angels, demons and vampires.

i totally agree with you i knew i forgot some that i wanted and soom Gem did come out with a dragon but we both missed it :'(. and on top of that i have found 2 place that sold egyptian gods alreay lol

 

SoulDoll's Shiva and Soom's Ender are/ were both favorites of mine as far as mythological creatures go. I'd love to see more Egyptian Goddesses and Gods, like Hathor. I'm also in love with Hindu Gods and Goddessses, so maybe Kali. ^^

 

If I had a bottomless pit of money, I'd love to see a gargoyle doll. Specifically... Goliath from the Disney series!

 

I'd like to see more badass sort of fairies and mermaids, the kind you see in the more modern fantasies... like the fairies in Wee Free Men or the PotC mermaids. I'd totally buy a mermaid doll that looked like it wanted to eat me

More Phoenix-ish dollies would tickle me too, although I'm not a huge bird fan myself.

 

At the recent artistic event (in I believe Portland? Seattle perhaps?) various incredible fantasy dolls were on display. One of those was kiyakotari's naga doll, where she used half a doll body and constructed a sewn snake tail to support it. (Also on display was her stag-horned, hooved guy.) Some doll companies have done multi-jointed resin tails, others have done small dolls with wired bendable vinyl (which may be off-topic) but I keep thinking there's got to be another solution, like some kind of metal mesh materials that are flexible. I think a lot of us would love to see a technical solution for the reptilian/fish tail issues you see in creating dragons, mermaids, snakes, or nagas. I'd love to see all of those, plus larger anthro dolls like cat, lion, wolf, and bird anthros like Horus or Seb. There's not many out there at SD or larger size, really.

Making a mixed-media mermaid is reletively easy with a bit of sewing skill and standard doll-spine, the challenge is trying to make it all in resin. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make the shape of doll-spine attractive to use its basic form, but anyway you do that, you end up with a pretty lumpy tail. More recently I've been trying to take inspiration from those little jointed metal fishes that you find on keychains and ornaments in China Town, or those bendy, wooden snakes they have at fairs and things. The problem with the fish is that they're pin-jointed and the problem with the snakes is that they're held together by a strip of cloth running down the spine, but I think I could get around those with a good internal structure, but I've still yet to find the time and money to work it out.

It's fun to read the earlier posts, and see that many of those ideas are now actually produced (many of them by Soom, but also several other companies or individuals). Personally, I would like to see a smoothly done Naga/Medusa (with both a full hear of snake hair and a pose-able snake lower body). Also, I would like to see more opposable tails, made from silicon coated wire, or something equally smooth yet flexible. I have an action figure of the Xenomorph from "Alien" and it had a very pose-able tail made from some kind of rubber with a wire skeleton. I think mermaid tails could be done similarly (And I have seen a few put out privately, but I mean from a full company, where they are available consistently).

 

Definitely agree with AnchixDPx that a Monkey King doll would be ace! I'd also love to see a Japanese tengu (I'm planning one of my own, but would kill to see a professionally produced one), and the Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele. I can just see her long rippling red-gold hair and glowing eyes. Especially if she were by Iplehouse...

 

I'd like to see someone do a nice minotaur or a sphynx.

 

maybe not so much mythological as fantasy, but I would love to see a professionally done Sylvanas Windrunner as well as other WoW related characters - I find them to be very beautiful and it would be nice to see them as BJD! Some of the owner done mods i have seen have been goooorgeous!

I wouldn't mind seeing some more grown up version of Zodiac signs represented as dolls either - this may have been done already, I am not sure. I know that Dream of Doll has a couple tinies like Libra, but I'd like to see some bigger in the range of 40-60mm with a more mature look and flowing dresses :3

Hmm... Artemis would be fun to see too.. a huntress!

I've seen unicorns done, and centaurs too, it'd be nice to see more of those for sure.

Someone in another thread mentioned a Buddha doll, and now I'm thinking that might be kinda cute. A little chubby guy with long earlobes and a big smile.

 

I would love a Satyr or Faun, any size. :3 And a 60cm+ Centaur that's actually proportional. D:

I have a doll that I transformed into a Phoenix, it's my Volks Luna. But, I'd really like to see Soom do one. I could just picture the transparent firey wings.

 

Sleipnir. If I could have a Sleipnir doll I would be so happy. I love eight legged horses and I draw them often and I have always wanted to see more quadraped dolls. I think he would be one wicked and complex piece of ball jointed awesome. One day I hope to make one as I am worried there never will be a Sleipnir doll.

Now that I revisit the idea after Zinc's release (Epidos' proportions just didn't grab me, although his face is lovely), I would love to see a matching-sized FEMALE centaur. Obviously these things have to come is pairs, otherwise where do the tinies come from?!

 

Perhaps they come from a tree like in Twelve Kingdoms seriers.

Which reminds me... many of them may not be mythological creatures per say but I would love to see some the wonderful creatures from Twelve Kingdoms. The Kirin (that is a mythological beast) would be particularly nice.

 

I would love to see more mermaids, especially the 60cm size. I wish Peapod would make their tails in more sizes than Yo-SD, they're wonderful! And consider clear resins with the next batch. I also wish there was a vinyl mermaid tail out there for Dollfie Dreams... I guess I might actually have to roll up my sleeves and make that one myself.... hmmm...

I second (or third or fourth, lol) a phoenix doll, a kirin, and more centaurs. Zinc was gorgeous, and I wish I could have snagged him. A doll with a unicorn/horse faceplate would be awesome! Dragon anthros, both "normal" and asian types, in 60cm would be amazing.

I wish more companies would release wings of all sizes, especially clear resin ones. Everyone needs more angels!

I agree with both these! I'd love to see some WoW characters (or even basic molds...although I suppose you could make night elves/blood elves, humans, draenai already with something like the RS fantasy line!)

I totally agree! My only caveat is when I picture them in my mind Death and Pestilence are always women, especially Death. It feels right, a woman brings us all into the world and a woman should be the one to collect us when its time to leave.

Hmm, I would like to see more dolls that have animal heads, like they do with Egyptian Gods. I know I've seen an Anubis doll with a jackal head somewhere, but seeing one with the head of a lion or a bird would be interesting too.

No one has done a true Griffin yet. I don't know if it would be too creepy with paw hands and taloned feet with wings. Humm.. Or a Minotor with bull horns and massive hooves and a cow tail with a very muscular body!

 

I'd love to see a MSD merman. I'm quite disappointed with the lack of male mer-dolls available, all I see for sale are mermaids. I know Asleep Eidolon is offering a SD merman right now, but he's over $1000. Oh well, maybe someday!

In the past I wanted to see dolls with 4 arms and centaurs. That has been done, so I'm happy. ^^
But I want to see more monster dolls, like the ones Soom had as LE. I don't really like the way the Soom dolls look, also that apart from the fantasy parts, they look pretty much the same, but the fantasy parts are really nice.
