What mythological character would you like to see as a doll?

I'd love to see a doll of a siren: the ones with tails and wings. ^^
Or what about an angel w/o removable wings?

((((On a side note though, I've noticed that a lot of places (dollie sites included) use lots of names from religion.
And sometimes it's offending to people. For me (as a Hellenist) seeing a doll named Hermes kinda aggitates me. (But I'm not going to tell people how to name their dolls.... Ug. I'm not instigating!)))))

A wolf boy for sure! I'd also kind of like to see some more sinister elf-type dolls. And maybe some mer-folk, with the little fins instead of ears. And bat-winged dolls...those would be kind of neat.

 

How about a Pan, with hooves, or a minotaur with hooves and beast head. I have a painting of a native american anima, with a dear head and human body. he is pretty cool.

 

I really love the whole "optional ears" thing some dolls have - I think more optional ears and more dolls with the option of optional ears would be nice ( mermaid ears, elf ears *different sizes & shapes*, wing ears *like Siren in Final Fantasy 8* cat ears, dog ears *floppy kinds!* - all sorts of ears as optional parts ^_^)

I've thought about making up a Athena doll myself, with armor and all. Maybe something based on Saint Seiya. Persephone and Amphitrite would be wonderful too.

Also, I'd love to see an Arwen or Éowyn. Their Barbie-like dolls give us some idea of what it'd look like, but a BJD would be so much prettier.

The god Asklepios/Aesculapius, the ancient Greek/Roman god of healing and medicine. Just because I love medical history so much. x3 And I have a thing for snake tattoos.

Yes, that's basically the story behind the Asklepios in my profile. ops: I'm not pining. Nope. I can stop whenever I want!

 

I think the wolf boy idea rocks! I'd like to see some mer-folk as well but the design would be a real issue. I also would mind seeing something like a pan or satyr type but I doubt that that would translate int a BJD very well. Some slightly robotic doll heads I think would be cool (Think anime style similar to the "to heart" robo girl or something in those ilk.) A foxgirl or boy would be super adorable .

That's my two cents. Take or leave them as you will.

XD As soon as I get my girl doll, I'm planning to dress her as the demon fox Tamamo no Mae / Da Ji / Dakki from Japanese and Chinese myths. I think the same character shows up in Indian myths, too, but I'm not sure.

I second the Medusa idea. She would be something to see. I can picture a Dark Elf Soo (DES) as a Medusa, but perhaps she would look more cute than scary.

You know what else would be neat, if someone created their own version of that famous painting of Aphrodite/Venus that shows her standing on the shell. Wait, let me look it up .... . It's called "The Birth of Venus." **Reads from an art book** It was painted by Sandro Botticelli in 1482. It depicts Venus upon her arrival to the island of Cyprus. She is nude with long, flowing reddish-gold hair, and to her right is Zephyrus the god of the west wind, and to her left is the nymph Pomona.

More information than you probably wanted to know, but hey, it's one of my favorite classical paintings. Particularly since my grandfather was from Cyprus. Eh.

 

My Lishe (that is on the way.. *woohoo*) will be very inspired on Arianrhod, Artemis and Selene... all moon Goddesses...

Cherryghost, I would LOVE to see the Endless made into dolls! Desire would be on an Volks angel body... Dream would have sparkley black marbles for eyes and a black fur wig (or white... :wink: ) and he would have to be Beauty White/Snow skin... It would take a LOT of resin body moddification to make Despair, maybe a handmade cloth doll body would be best -- Chiwoo head, I think, because Chiwoo always looks so sad... Destruction, hmmm, who would make a good Destruction...? Death would, of course, have to have a really cool goth faceup, and an ankh, definitely need a to-scale ankh... Delirium would SO need to have that Aziza pink and orange fur wig, heh, and one blue eye and one green -- I wonder if Masterpiece could do custom eyes with fishies swimming through them...? Destiny would most certainly have to have Luts hands, probably the El default hands, or maybe a Berman, all shrouded in brown and chained to his book...

Dude. Dude. That would be SO COOL!!!!

Anyway, as other people have mentioned, a Gorgon doll would be cool (not Medusa, exactly, because she was the mortal among them, and I'd want my doll to live forever). I think Kyrie would make a good Gorgon. Snakey hair, yay!

A Naga would rock, too, but would be WAY too hard to make, what with the lower half being a snake and the wings and the pearl and all.

An Earth Mother type doll would be cool. One with a rounded (as if pregnant) belly. LONG brown hair with a garland of flowers for a crown and more flowers woven into a few braids. Earthy-toned faceup and light hazel eyes. A flowing dress of some sort.

Okay, and lastly, Batman and Robin. What!? Comics are like our modern myths! Really!

But yes. I think a series of the the Muses would be awesome- maybe each one could come with an accessory that fit her station (lyre, tragedy/comedy mask, book, etc.). I'm trying to think of other pantheons that haven't been named already, actually... maybe svartalfs (dark elves) from Norse mythology? I'd lovelovelove a Loki doll as well... lean face and build, long eyes and hands, and a nice smirk.

And any Endless ^-^. I do have a Desire doll on my agenda for as long as I´m interested in BJD, but I have not found the perfect face yet.

 

The androgynous (and I mean that in the actual Male/Female way, not the "does that thing have a gender?" way) hindu god/ess Shiva-Ardhanareeswara/Ardhanarishwara. Shiva and Shakti together in one body and all that would be awesome (Sathya Sai Baba), too.

I LOVE the idea of dolls based on Sandman comic characters ... Dream, Death and Delirium, particularly, because they're so visual. For the past two months I've actually been keeping my eye out for long red or orange fur to make a Delirium wig with. Haven't found anything suitable yet. The stores will be getting in a lot more fake fur just before Halloween, though, so I'm sure I'll find some then. (I just have to wait for half a year!) Yes, I'll definitely eventually do a Delirium character with my girl, Firefly. I thought she'd be perfect for it, too, because she's young looking, sweet looking, and has the capability to look slightly confused, if that makes any sense.

Comic book characters aren't exactly mythology, like the originator of this post asked about, but they're still very cool.

 

Merlin! Basically I'd love to see an older-looking boy ^^ Maybe even older than Bermann... I mean, HD Margo is a pretty mature lady, so maybe a male equivalent? Anyway, a Celtic mage would be very nice!

 

I'd like a wild-looking banshee with white hair, red eyes, torn clothes... Vampire DES would probably work for such a thing, come to think of it.

And add another vote for dolls inspired by Grecian myth--I'd like Aphrodite [ok, who wouldn't like her! :wink: ] Narcissus, Apollo... And any number of nymphs!

 

Sleeping Beauty from the Anne Rice erotica series Whenever I found myself reading Anne's discriptions of Beauty and her peers I could not help thinking how dolfie like she sounded with her long flaxen hair!

I would also fall head over heels for a vampire Armand or, like someone has already said any kind of vampire that actually has open eyes.

 

I want a four armed Hindu Goddess! Kali would be awesome as would Saraswati or Laksmi. But I think Kali would be the greatest because she'd be blue :grin: If someone ever made a doll of Kali I would just have to buy her. You'd have to figure out a good way to make her have that tongue without her just looking silly though. I'm not quite sure how you'd do it. A Green Tara doll would be wonderful too. I'd love to seen any of the Gods/godesses who have abnormal skin tones. I think they would be so much fun.

 

For what it's worth, when I eventually get my Hound I'm going to turn him into the Celtic bard Taliesin. Long flowing red hair and piercing green eyes, tooled leather armour decorated with golf-leaf celtic knotwork, and a golden torc around his neck.

 

Someday, I'm going to do a Satyr/Pan costume for Keizo with furry legs and horns. The hooves might be a little difficult though.

 

Not really mythical as such but would love to see a Vampire Hunter D. Good stuff.

Not sure about mythological, how about historical: Nefertiti (note a certain delicately sculpted bust of great fame), and anthropological: 'The Real Eve' (the mother of mankind).

I really love the trend at Soom where their zodiacs are part-animal in some way. I really like that. I also would like to see a lot of variety in the type of elf, and it would also be cool to get a dragon-hybrid somewhere along the line.

 

i'm actually making a doll to be the embodiment of my "creative spirit" (muse if you will), kind of modelled after the Egyptian god Thoth. he'll be a more "American Gods" sort of character though.

 

I would love to see the Egyptian gods (specially Isis and Osiris, maybe even Anubis). Also an oracle, that would be cool. Also any of the Tuatha De Danna, Dagda would be so pretty. Yes, I am a history/mythology nerd.

 

I think I would really like to see a dragon/human hybrid (I know people have done it before, but I've never been super-excited about the way they look...)--I think that something like that, from a company like SOOM would be the coolest thing ever. XD
