I don't know if this question has been asked yet but I am just curious as how diverse the BJD community is. You can put your ethnic background, then where you were born, and what country you live in now. I will start it off... My ethnic background is Filipino. I was born in the Philippines. I live in Australia.
I'm mixed (African, Middle Eastern, and European) and I was born in and still currently live in the United States.
I'm a generic non-diverse white American. But for those interested, I did happen to take one of those Ancestry DNA kit tests. Spoiler
You're a filipino too? So am I~ But of course I'm currently living here in Philippines. I grew up here in Manila and is still here.
Filipinas represent! I'm Filipino-American, and currently I live in the middle of the woods in Virginia.
Dutch, born in the Netherlands and living in the Netherlands. No plans to leave here too. Pretty boring actually
I'm French (*'▽') I was born in France and am still living there, but would love to travel more of the world in the future.
I want to do one of those DNA tests! I know I've Dutch (Pennsylvania 'dutch' as well) going back to 1607 here in the US - as well as German (Black Forest - some Romani there) - British (Welsh, English, Scottish) - possibly Native American & African American but who knows? ergo want the DNA. If I've the Native American & African American it was both at least 4 generations ago & hidden.
My dad's family is Native American and my mom's side is English, with German, Scottish, & Irish bits.
My dad always joked that our family is what happens when cultures meet and really like each other. Those "where were your ancestors from" genetics pie charts? Ours had something like a dozen sections, ranging from the Middle East (Jewish ancestors on my dad's side) to Ireland (maternal great-grandmother) to the Pacific islands (Dad's side, again. One great-great gran was native Filipino.) I guess if I was a puppy, I'd be the classic 100% American Mutt. Culturally, I was a military brat growing up. My dad was a Navy officer, and we moved every couple of years. I've lived all over the country. I'd say I'm most comfortable here in the Pacific Northwest, but that's just a reflection of having lived here in Seattle far longer than I lived anywhere else.
Born, raised and live in the U.S., but my Dad was born in northern Italy and my Mom's parents were from southern Germany. @Melissa, I also took one of those tests. I'd really like to take a different one partly to see if they match up plus I want the one that shows if you have any neanderthal! ethnicity by Nadine, on Flickr
American--born in the US and raised in the US. Although my family does have very strong roots with the Sioux and Cherokee Native Americans. And on the other side we are rooted in Austria and Germany.
Mine does actually match up with my known family history, so I'd say it's reasonably accurate. Also, you always hear how people find out "shocking" family secrets or whatever sometimes from them? My maternal grandmother was adopted from another state. (Not really such a huge deal, this is known.) .... but I'm the genetic descendant of the family that adopted her. Still trying to guess at what kind of hanky-panky led to that one. I think one of her "sisters" was actually her mother, but I have no way to know for sure.
That is a neat test . Hello kababayan . Another kababayan, nice to meet you. Yea, I heard how rainy it is there in England. You should move here in Australia, especially in the Northern states like Gold coast or Darwin...you will get plenty of intense sunshine almost everyday. It's nice to see that we do have quite a diverse cultural background that are interested in BJD. I am actually surprise that no one is from the same country as where most of the good BJD makers are from such as Korea and Japan.
England is very rainy! And I can't remember the last time I saw a blue sky. Oh I'd love to live in Australia it must be amazing to live somewhere so sunny and warm. The cold really doesn't agree with me!
I'm Native American and white/Irish Scottish. My Nana (my dad's mother) is 100% Cherokee and My Gpop (dad's father) is a white/Irish. and My mom is 2/3 Irish Scottish and 1/3 Cherokee.
I'm a mixed race as well. Among my known ancestries are portuguese, native brazilians, africans, polish and ukranian. The rest is lost to history.
I love England for that exact reason xD I'm italian and I was born and raised in Italy, I lived in a few other countries but now I'm back home.
Native (black feet/chippawa) with Sicilian plus German and other European. I ID as Native though, tribe super close to being recognized finally!
I'm rather ignorant on the subject D: I didn't know a tribe needed to go through the process of being recognized. I'm really happy for you and your family though!
It been a on going right for decades, thankfully a law past in 2015 that has given us a foot through the door. I won't go into history why (it may open up politics and don't wanna do that)
I did genetic testing through 23andme and these were my results: At first I thought the .9% Western African would be the common African ancestry that everyone has, but I read an article that said a percentage between .5% and 1% meant you had an African ancestor within the last 200 years, which was interesting.
Aboriginal Canadian. With a dash of Brit from my father's side, and possibility Scottish from my mother's side.
I'm Chinese-Canadian , I was born in China but I've lived in Canada for most of my life. Though strangely I'm quite a fob. The revelation that I was actually Canadian surprised a lot of my Chinese friends XD they just all assumed that I was a fob too lol
Mexican & Black. I'm American, born and raised. My mother did an ancestry test a while ago and it seems I had a white ancestor at some point too, lmao.
I'm a black American. I've never done an ancestry test or anything to break it down because I haven't had a huge interest in it... I'm still me regardless xD. I live in the Midwest region of the US.
I'm Chilean, raised and born here. My grandparents parents were from Spain, like many other chileans ancestors
I'm just your strang black American citizen. I don't know anything about my ancestors, so I'll just leave that there
I'm one quarter Russian and three quarters Turkish. I was born and raised in Turkey, lived in Germany for a few years and now I reside in Texas! ^_^
I am white af. Primarily European ancestry -- some German, some English, a lot of Scottish (my maiden name is a Scottish clan name), with a generous sprinkling of Hawaiian islander and a dash of Chinese just to make it a little more interesting. Grandma was Hawaiian-Chinese, although I inherited exactly zero of the physical traits. Born, raised, and still living in the PNW area of the US of A. (You wanna talk rain, I got yer rain right here.)
Born and raised in Canada (as were both my parents). I have ancestors from Germany, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Norway, and possibly Russia (there's some debate as to where my mum's maiden name originated). I haven't taken a DNA test yet, but I intend to eventually.
I'm Slavic - Polish and Russian, born and raised in Poland, currently living in England (I moved 10 years ago). I would love to live in Canada one day.
I am latvian by nationality, but my mothers parents are both of baltic german ancestry, does that make me half german?
Aboriginal Canadian and eastern European. Born in Canada and still live in Canada although there are a ton of places I'd like to visit beyond our borders. A DNA test would be interesting just to see what sort of mishmash of cultures I inherited.
I am Barbarian: Irish Celt on my mom's side, Swedish Viking on my dad's side. Might have something else thrown in, too, but we don't know for sure. I currently live in Canada, but I've also lived in Sweden, England, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. I've visited more countries in Asia and Europe.
I'm Filipino, born and raised in the United States. I've sort of lived in the same area all my life, and while I've wanted to go out and live in many other places in the world, it seems I am bound to where I have been in my entire existence thus far. Though, perhaps someday, that may change. Who knows?
American. Born and raised in Georgia. Dad is from North Carolina, probably some European variant prior to that. Mom was born in Oklahoma, but was adopted. I'm pretty whitey-white, but who knows what could be hiding in there. Yay, mutts~
My mom is Native American and my dad is German, I was born, raised and live in Western Washington on a small Indian Reservation. Even tho I look like the German side of the family, I identify as Native American. I was raised in the culture. I am heavy into cultural art, even tho most people tell me I put to much color into it. My favorite is making brightly colored Dream Catchers. Now as an adult I even got a job working with my community which I love.
I'm Norwegian. Surprise, surprise. But, since this is America, there's a fair bit of Irish and the other European countries in there for good measure.
I am was born in Panama and have a Panamanian mother and Nicaraguan/Canadian father. Live in Nicaragua for 14 years and now I am in university in Canada( I have 3 passports)
I'm half Spanish, half Swedish, born in Sweden I'm also part belgian and russian, but only miiinor parts 。^‿^。,
On my mother's side I'm: Dutch, some Spanish (possibly part Moorish, my great, great, great grandfather), part British, possibly part Norse, possibly part Scottish. On my father's side I'm: Dutch, French Canadian going back to the Coureur des bois (so possibly part Native American as well. Family lore says Shawnee). I would love to buy my brother a DNA test so I can see all the different family lines. I'm sure there's some surprises in there. So.... I'm a mutt xD A very pale mutt.
My ethnic background is Nigerian, and I was born in and still live in the US. No mixing of anything the best I can tell.
My heritage is British! On both my mother's and father's side, both of their parents were/are also British. I'd love to do an ancestry DNA test though to see what else is hiding in the bloodline, haha~ But I was born down here in Australia. I really want to move to England though, I feel much more at home there.
Another American here with a mix of an ethnic background--somewhat confirmed/known parts include British, Irish, Dutch, and Swedish. Born in Michigan and still here--I like the lakes, the cloudiness, and the forests. I agree that it would be very interesting to take one of those DNA tests and see if there would be any intriguing surprises.
I'm white British and was born in England, but ancestrally I'm mainly Irish and Ashkenazi Jewish. Definitely taking a DNA test!
