What is the meaning behind your DOA username? Pt.2

Aug 26, 2019

    1. Mines pretty boring, it's my name backwards lol and a number I like

    2. It’s a Japanese 4-character idiom meaning “to live as freely as one likes” (自由奔放). I‘ve used it as an online handle for years and was too lazy to think of a BJD-specific one when I registered for DoA.

      • x 1
    3. Mine has no special meaning I just like prezels XD

    4. Oh mine is super easy to guess... my favorite colors are reds and greens so I named my DOA name redandgreenlover:mwahaha

    5. When I was 16 thought I was so smart...and also a huge weeb so I slapped together some japanese (or probably not) words and made it even more cringeworthy by writing it with a capital Q.

Sabaku might or might not mean desert and I really like hot weather.
Saba might or might not mean mackerel which is probably more deep because first off, I realy hyped Free! Iwatori Swimclub back then. Second, I grew up very close to water, lakes just as much as the ocean. I'm basically amphibious. Third, I like fish.
And the Q just looks cool and prevents the name from being taken (most of the time). It makes a coo-sound in German so it basically spells Sabaku yet again. It's stupid and cringy and not funny at all but I started using it everywhere and now I have to live with it as my alias. Thats life!

    6. There's no meaning at all to me, other than the dictionary definition. It's just a word I found fun at the time.

      • x 1
    7. Mine is pretty self explanatory.

    8. The names of two beloved pets - Griffin and Lilly who have both passed away and are now lovely angels. :)

      • x 1
    9. It's a moniker from a bunch of things. It wasn't for any poetic reasons, I just like how it sounded.

    10. when i was tiny and still in highschool, i thought it was cool to use an online translation of common words and see what pops up. cant really remember which word or language setting i used or if its even a correct translation of a word. fast forward a couple years (which is still a decade plus ago) and i found out somehow that its someone's porn name, so i dropped it like a hot potato (except here, i cant change my name here).

    11. Misfits' song shorthand for Mephistopheles, a devil from the novel Faust by Goethe. One of my favorite books, and the original Misfits aren't bad either. :wiggle

It's kind of boring, but it's a name I look for after my usual, Multifaceted or Multifacet, is taken.

    12. Haha mine is so bad. It’s the same username I chose back when I was a young teenager and we got internet for the first time with AOL. You had to pick a screen name, and being the very not creative person I am, and too impatient to sit and think of a good name for myself, that I had no idea then would stick with me for 20+ years, I thought of one of my biggest obsessions at the time, and attempted to stick “girl” onto it, but that was already taken, so to “girly” I defaulted.

Anyone else watch WWF wresting during the attitude era in the late 90’s? Yeaaaaahhh... didn’t think so.:?:sweat

And I just haven’t bothered thinking of something else since then. Lmao

    13. Just a name I like, I only added the "h" because in other forums the name "ariadne" was already taken.

    14. Well mine isnt too fun haha. Its just my name, marvin (which was actually chosen based on an old save file found in a used video game) and my favourite colour (Red also happens to be the name of my pup)

    15. I tried to put my username as Hinata (from Naruto) on YouTube when it first came out but it told me try another name, so I mixed the letters and added my nickname Lele to Hinata. I didn’t like the ‘e’ being in there so I just made it Lihnata instead lol it’s been 12 years and it’s stuck ever since. It’s my name for almost everything that I use!

    16. Mx is gender neutral social title because I’m non-binary, and Bluebird aka Harper Row is my favorite DC hero.

    17. I got my name from and OC I created about a year or so ago. she is the child of one of my fav ships from MHA/BNHA. I use this user for most websites or I use my Nickname.

    18. I am very very bad at names.

    19. Old AIM name <——-so cool

    20. My username is from the movie "The Geisha". The main person called Sayuri. And 8 is my favorite number.

    21. Mine is the name of my favorite print from the gothic lolita brand Moi-même-Moitié. The print looks like what it says on the tin - cathedral ruins.

    22. Epona is a goddess of horses and the name of your horse in the Legend of Zelda, and I always thought it was pretty, so when I found it was open here as just “Epona” I was pretty happy!

    23. My username comes from an oc in a story I'm writing, haha.

    24. Red, a colour I love for its regal jewel like richness . Astor for a beautiful old Arthouse cinema in Melbourne where I enjoyed many a splendid film.

    25. My username is the same I use on Instagram and other social media :)
"A_Nonyme" was my video game pseudonym as well, when I first chose it, it was because I didn't wanted other players to know anything about me (and that I was a girl as well) :XD:

    26. Reading some of the responses, I wish that I had been a bit more creative in choosing my username but it is simply my name plus my nickname.

    27. Before I got married, my initials were LC. The Grimm fairy tales include the tale of "Clever Elsie." It's a pun.

    28. my IT class had very outdated equipment so the only game we could play was the original counter-strike and since everyone in that game is russian i wanted to fit in so i just google translated the word ''war'' in russian wich is ''voina'' and that was my first ever username, as for doina, doina come from romanian and it is a type of folk song with a grief felling, the best i could describe it is sad peasant songs

    29. I've always been into that abstract, single word kind of aesthetic, but lately, I feel like it's so hard to choose something I think will be unique, so it's just a weird way of writing my initals.

    30. My username is one I've been using for a fair bit. It's actually a weirdly vague reference to a fanfic I loved. Everyone just assumes I'm obsessed with frogs. I like them, sure, but not really that much.

    31. I was 14 and obsessed with Rozen Maiden. Now that I’m 28 and barely interested in anime, period, I wish I could change it!

    32. Mine stems waaaaay back to when I was going into middle school and Dad helped me create my own email account instead of using one my sister and I shared (We're talking AOL days here). He suggested I use something like "Techno Kitty" as I love computers and cats, (though I didn't know how to spell well so I spelled it tecnokitty) and to this day I keep using some variation of it for most things. Techy is just the shortened version of it.

    33. Back when I was a weeb and a teenager, I was super obsessed with visual kei to the point all of my usernames were references to something in VK. This particular username is referencing Baiser's album "Hana", one of my all time favorite Japanese rock albums after all of these years, and my favorite song off of the album.

    34. It's very simple haha. It's my name and the name of my first ever bought doll.

    35. Jaxx Capta is an online pseudonym I've been using since... middle school, maybe? Early high school. A long time. It started based off of a character (Captain Jaxxris) from a story I was writing. Which involved aliens. Which I had made in Spore originally. So yeah, been a long while!

(I think I've gotten asked if it was Doctor Who related before? Or Torchwood? Either way, haven't seen more than a couple one-off episodes, so alas, it's not.)

    36. I was watching the hobbit movie again (ive watched it soo many times) and i love the Elven King.

    37. I've always been using Silmaril (translated 'radiance of pure light') as my online pseudonym. I borrowed it from The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien who kinda inspired my pursuit of a career in a certain field.

Sometimes when the name is taken, I'd add a prefix or suffix and that's what I did when registering on DoA. 'Misto' was taken from Mr. Mistoffelees, my favorite cat in Cats the musical.

    38. I am not completely in love with my username but at the time a friend of mine thought it would be fun to find a Japanese version of our real names. My real name is Amy (Aimi) and my last is Talebi (Taiki). Aimi also means, 'Beautiful Love' and Taiki means, 'Large, Great, Radiance, Shine.' It's more of a play on words and the meaning behind it.

    39. My username is the most original username ever. It's my actual name. I aparently wasn't as clever as I would have liked to have been when making it, but alas, it's a name.

    40. 'Wraak' literally means revenge. There's no reason I chose it for DOA beyond that I like it.

I do have a doll named Wraak though. I should prolly post her. She was actually a grail I got right after i made my account here.
So I guess indirect relation :D

    41. It is my name, and I love dolls :D

    42. My email address (years ago) was vikidd (Viki Drewry Davis). I made arrangement to meet with a real estate agent and all she really knew about me was my email address. She called me Violet. She assumed from the email address that my name was Violet Kidd. And now I am.

    43. Wasn't there a thread on DoA about embarrassing usernames? I think it might have been in the Brigadoon, but I can't find it anymore. I used to love reading through that thread - it was hilarious  If anyone has the link to that thread, please share!

And for my username, it's mostly just a stylized version of my birth name, Amy ^^

    44. I was 16, thought it was hilarious and the best thing ever, and oh boy do I regret it. If I could change it I would, but unfortunately I'm stuck with it. I guess it's just a lesson in caution.

    45. Pixeam is the username I use on most social medias and video games. It is like my online name. I've had it since high school. It is a mix between Pixel and Dreams. After all, most of the things we see online are pixelated and I also like to sleep and dream a lot :kitty2

    46. She's always been my favorite villain - even before Angelina Jolie gave her a do-over. Even as a kid, I liked her better than the protagonist.

I've had many usernames over the years - now that I'm "middle-aged," I'm embracing my inner cranky witch. Who really just wanted a nap, y'all...

Edited to add: it’s a play on my second favorite scene in Sleeping Beauty, my favorite being when she fires lightning at her minions after they’ve pissed her off while screaming, “Fools! Idiots! IMBECILES!” Cuz let’s be real - who hasn’t wanted to do that sometimes?

    47. Mine's pretty simple. Snakes are actually one of my favorite animals, and a lot of vipers are very pretty in particular. And orchids are my favorite types of flowers.

    48. When I was in massage school we did trades as part of practicing new techniques. One day the person I traded with said "that was phenomenal" and the teacher quipped "you're a phenom!". I really liked that so I took it and it's been my user name/gamer tag/etc. ever since. I add the Star sometimes because I like space and light/energy powers lol.

    49. Clefairy is my favorite Pokémon. They are pink and squishy and cute.

    50. It's a username I end up using in lot of places since it's has been so far rather unique and so not usually be taken yet. Originally Arachlia was name of alt-account in Gaia Online. I think it was inspired bit by big spider from Lord of the Rings, and just modified to sound more girlish name.

    51. Back when email was just getting started and I had to come up with a username, I thought, my husband always called our daughter monkeybones because she was always climbing and afraid of nothing. I'm her mom, so.....

    52. This. Pink Pokémon are the best Pokémon!

    53. i was really into iconography and puritan naming conventions when i was 17 and now i'm stuck with it, i guess? it could be worse, all things considered.

    54. I mean, I went through a British TV phase where I wanted to call myself Farty Towels, so I tend to agree.

    55. Mine is pretty obvious
I really liked a certain entertainer at the time.

    56. I needed a fake name for one of my e-mails or something like that when I was underaged. So I found a name/surname that I liked and used them. Then I decided to use it once again on a couple of websites, then it went to my game profiles and eventually I have this nickname on 90% of resources I use =D

P.S. I even used it in one of the fanfiction stories I wrote years ago!

    57. Absolutely nothing. I signed up here when I was 16 years old, and was one of those kids in high school who just liked the things I liked, despite them being taboo or looked down on (in particular, anime fans were non-existent in the countryside). So I kind of came up with the monicker as a joke to myself as a way to embrace being considered a "weird anime kid."

    58. It's self depreciating

Ätzend in German is kind of bland if you take it literally, but in slang it means... kind of like how in English we use "suck" as something that's no good lol

It came from me joking to a friend something like "whatever, I'm ätzend" then changing my discord name to Ätzend and then it kinda stuck with people calling me Ätz lol. I don't mind. I do "ätzend" lol

Before this I just went by my actual name, which is a very rare spelling of a somewhat common name, but I kinda faked my own internet death and started anew so now I'm Ätzend lol

    59. Lostkitten is a tribute to all the cats and kittens I tried to save over the decades and failed. I have been involved in cat rescue for over 5 decades and now help operate a large cat sanctuary. It still breaks my heart to lose even one.

    60. this is actually my alt name from a while back, since I couldn't use soggytoast at the time, soapy rye is supposed to be related to soggy toast, rye being a type of bread and soapy instead of soggy... not a great name in hindsight lol but I don't think there's any way to change it. Hence why my subtitle says "call me toast".
