What camera do you use?

Jan 16, 2011

    1. Fujifilm dslr, got it used at a really great price because I am a beginner. I know it's not the camera but who's behind the camera that counts so I'm constantly taking photos in different light conditions.

    2. For the moment I use my mother's camera it is a Nikon D3100 ^.^

    3. I had a Sony 7R II that got stolen so now Im staying with my old 5D mark II and Nikon D750 @ @

    4. I use Olympus E-600 with macro lens. But I need new, cos I dont know why I have noise in every option iven when I have smallest ISO. :( (mby chip is old and worn)

    5. I use a Canon / EOS 80D and am very satisfied with it.:)

    6. Nikon D7000, and my Galaxy 7 Android.

    7. fujifilm XT10

    8. I'm using my trusty iphone 7 plus mostly for dolls. I do have a few dslr and slrs lying around the house, but I haven't got to set it up and take nice pictures of my dolls this way.

I have an old canon 60D, old Nikon D610, very old FM2n slr, very old F4s slr and some budget lenses.

    9. Canon Rebel XSi

    10. Canon Rebel T3! I'm still learning new things about it every time I use it too, haha.

    11. I use a Nikon D800. Same here I love it, but I learn so much about it everytime i use it lol.

    12. Hello! I use a Canon Rebel T7i . It's been taking some getting used to, but I love how it has numerous focal points. I hope to upgrade to a Canon Mark III or maybe even the IV perhaps next year. Here is hoping!

    13. Another Canon Rebel user here! It more features on it than I'll ever actually use, but it definitely gets the job done.

    14. I'm still pretty new to photography but my Canon Eos 60D is my baby

    15. Canon eos rebel t5.
I got it when Canon was doing the labors day sale :)

    16. I just got a canon eos rebel t6 and I cant wait to take photos of my dolls with it!

    17. I have a Nikon D7200 that I will be using once we get home and all set up!

    18. For now, I use: Canon EOS Rebel T3 (will upgrade this year) and my iPhone 8 Plus ~

Here I share two pictures of the same doll, using the same "backdrop" (but they were shot on different days and under different lighting conditions) but one of them was shot with a phone and the other with my still usable 2011 dSLR purchase.

I'll start by saying this; you can own the most expensive camera and lens combination (because both matter) but if you do not know how to take pictures — and this is something you can learn — it won't mean anything. It's like having a car with gas; it can take you anywhere, sure, but only if you know how to drive it and where to go.

When I started in this hobby in 2011 I came to a thread like this and felt I needed a dSLR if I wanted to take cool pictures because it was what everyone used. And it had to be expensive to matter (which is a lie; usually the lens is where your investments should go.) So, on the Black Friday of 2011 I bought an entry level dSLR for like $500ish. That was the cost of an SD doll I had been looking to buy, so yeah... it hurt, lol. I don't regret buying that camera because it allowed me to discover a love for photography and editing. I'll say, however, that the wisdom of the few who said: "You can make anything work if you have the imagination/skills" was and is true.

So, if you're browsing this thread to know what everyone else is using, thinking a better camera will magically make your pics very awesome, please know it's not entirely the case. Good lighting is essential for any picture. Mark my words here. You can fix anything in post processing if your image was shot with enough light to handle the alterations and filters.

The picture of the left (black clothes) was shot with an iPhone 8 Plus and the picture of the right (white clothes) with the Canon EOS Rebel T3 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens — yes, that pretty cheap lens.

And yes, of course, both images have been edited and this is the point I want to make; you can usually improve and spice up your images later in Photoshop or mobile editing apps. (Although, admittedly, the dSLR requires less correction, especially when shot in RAW, while mobile pictures require more correction.)

So, part of the magic and fun for me is precisely that; editing. I don't like the natural, "as shot" pictures; they're not me, not my style, not my flavor, but what I am trying to say here is that you can have a "bad" picture and make it great after it's shot. There is the ever trusted Photoshop, but these days there are also amazing photo editing apps like Snapseed and VSCO to up your editing game (on the go, no less!) Also there is a mobile version of Lightroom — it’s not as powerful as the full computer program, but it offers enough to help your pictures and get you familiarized with the terminology.

    19. I actually just got a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX350 yesterday, and I've loved playing with it so far! I've never used a proper camera before, so I still have a LOT to learn and a lot of tricks to figure out, but I've loved just playing around with it so far. A huge step up from my iPhone 6s camera haha.

    20. Wow, I like her makeup.
      She is so stylish.

By the way, I use the CANON EOS 600D.
I am satisfied with CANON's condition.
      It's warm color tone.

    21. Thank you so much:dance

    22. Nikon d5300 with different lenses: Nikkor 50mm and Nikkor 85mm 1.8g and a 55-200mm zoom lense (a cheaper one). I also have a kit lense that I barely use.

Originally I bought it for photographing my pet rabbits and my friends and family, but it works perfectly with dolls too :)

    23. Nice bunnies, who made them and what scale are they? :mwahaha

    24. @Leiothrix Haha, I just wanted to show how the camera works and I don't have really good doll photos! Except my friend's dolls, which I forgot to post here...

    25. Does anyone have any suggestions on what app to use to add a watermark to your downloaded pix? I can get great pix but I'd love to add the name of the doll to them without doing like a dumb sign next to her...lol! I tried to download an app and it was like a virus and became a NIGHTMARE....anyone else using something that isn't like that?

    26. @foreverdolls, I'm using LogoLicious . It's easy to use it from the phone, you can add text or logo and change it with 2 fingers. Example just made:

    27. Canon 5D IV

Actually 760D is my first camera, and I still like to use it for some commom picture, it is much lighter

    28. Lightroom.

Or Paint.NET if you want a freebie.

    29. I use Nikon D90. Old but I love it :)

    30. Wow!!! Love it!!! Is it free?

    31. Just got a new Sony DSC-H300. Got super lucky when I went to buy it since someone had returned one. Not only did they shave $50 off the price, whoever had it had left a 32gb card inside as well. Nice little bonus.

    32. I use my iPhone 6 and Canon PowerShot SX500 IS. I really really want a DSLR and that will be my next big purchase, before any more doll things.

    33. Yes, it was when I downloaded it.

    34. I use Sony Xperia XA1 for fast photos and Nikon 3200 with 18-55 zoom lens, but waiting for Tamron 90mm Macro lens.

      with the phone:

      with DSLR:

    35. I have a canon 6d and a fuji x-t2. I really like the fuji for doll pictures because its smaller and lighter and lets me get in there better. It also shows me what the exposure will look like before taking the picture and has different film color options which cuts down on my editing. I know this is a lot of camera lol, I do this full time (people portraits).

    36. I use a Canon EOS Rebel T6.

    37. i use a nikon D5500

    38. Nikon D7100 for years...really hope to upgrade lens lol.

    39. I so far been using an Olympus E-500 but now I am upgrading! (it's time lol) to a Canon 700D <3 I'm planning on getting the 50mm lenses for it too but for now this expense is my limit ^^; I am looking forward to not using the viewfinder all the time, since the previous was only able to use that. I'm picking it up today and am so excited for it! :D

    40. Old Nikon d90 with Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens. :whee:

    41. It is a long time that I did not come back, show some pictures by Canon 5D IV

    42. It's an old Nikon D3100, I bought this for my photography class way back in college.

    43. [IMG]

All the above are made by Canon 5D IV.

I think the camera is one point, but the most important thing is lens, I think one 50mm plus 100mm lens are essential to make a good photo for dolls.

    44. Nah, the most important thing is the nut behind the shutter button.

It doesn't matter how good the rest of the equipment is, if that nut isn't any good the photos won't be either.

    45. Now using Canon EOS M50. It’s light and easy to carry that’s okay.

    46. I'm still using the same camera I was using when i started in 2012, a Canon T2I. Would love to upgrade in the future, but for now I think it's still a great camera that's held up pretty good.

    47. A Nikon D3400.

    48. nut, yes!:mwahaha but human being always wants to make the professional beautiful photo

    49. [IMG] some new photos by Canon 5D IV

    51. I have used Canon EOS 750D but now I have switched to Fujifilm X-T3

    52. Samsung Galaxy s7 edge

    53. Canon PowerShot SX150 IS

I've had it a few years. It's temperamental, some days it will zoom in and out nicely, other days I can barely get it to get the picture without having to do stunts while holding the camera. It eats through batteries like it is starving. Eventually I will need a new camera, but as long as it keeps working, I am happy with it.

    54. Updating my response, I now strictly use my IPhone 8 plus; the quality of my photos increased exponentially. I also sign up for the photo classes at the Apple stores near me.

    55. I have a Canon 550D, and I am very happy with it :kitty2

    56. I'm using Nikon D7200:) It is a good camera, but I hope one day I can afford a professional one so if I took other types of photos in a bad light, I will be able to recover more details. For now, it is a perfect camera.

    57. I use my LG v30. I have a Fujifilm digital camera but I honestly can not tell the difference between photos taken with it vs my phone.

    58. Currently I'm using my phone (Heuwei Mate 20 Pro) or my Canon 750D.as I was using my camera for scenary etc I am using my 18-135mm STM at close range, and my 50mm fixed lens... As soon as Lumina (my doll) allows me to stop buying her clothing etc I plan on getting myself a 22mm pancake lens by Canon for some closer profile more bokeh shots!

I also have a fisheye lens which I need to try, but I'm still new to this, and only got Lumina a few weeks ago so still doing baby steps :)

    59. Konica Minolta 7D with the vertical grip is my primary digital camera, typically use with Minolta 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.7, or 100mm f/2.8. Also use the 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom and the 70-210mm f/4 zoom. The 100mm f2.8 is probably my favorite, I used to use the 135mm f/2.8 but I switched it in favor of the 100mm, I don't really need the extra 35mm and the bokeh and CA is cleaner from the 100mm.

I also have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that I use with the same lenses, I use it with the standard back and focusing screen and the expanded AA battery compartment. I kind of want to get a Minolta 7 or a 9 but it's not really a priority for me right now:

My "fun" camera is a Salut-S that I use with the waist level finder and Kiev 88 grip. My favorite lens with this is the Kaleinar-3V 150mm f/2.8, and I also have a Mir-26V 45mm f/3.5 and the Vega-12V 90mm f/2.8 it came with

Trying to get a mechanical SLR camera for traveling without worrying about batteries or being as fragile as the Salut-S, talking with a guy about buying a Konica T3n with the 50mm f/1.4 and the 135mm f/2.5. Really considered Topcon as well, both systems are beautiful, but I feel the Konica fits better with the rest of what I already have, lol.

    60. This year I sold my Nikond D5100 (I had the kit lens 18-55mm, and the 50mm 1.8g) and went mirrorless. I regret nothing.

^ This is an old pic with my Nikon D5100, using the 50mm 1.8g

My current set up is a Sony a6400, with a couple lenses: Minolta MD 50mm f1.7 (vintage, needs adapter), Minolta MD 58mm f1.4 (same adapter than before), and the Tamrom 35mm f2.8 1:2 (this is a beast, totally recommend it). I do have the kit lens 16-50mm but it is trash quality, my goodness. Just keeping it for when I sell the a6400 in to upgrade to full-frame.

^ This was when I just using the pancake 16-55m.

And this one was the Minolda 50mm at f1.4, manual focus: Musume on Instagram: “It is that time of the year were all pics must be filled with bokeh! I wish you the best for this holidays! :D . . #tweetbjd #sharebjd…”
