What camera do you use?

Jan 16, 2011

    1. Nikon D5000 DSLR its my baby

    2. I just got a Kodak Easyshare C190. My friend just gave it to me because she got a new camera. XD

I'm still fiddling with everything, I really like it though. I'll have to look up everything online as I don't have a book, but it's pretty easy to handle. I haven't had a working and very nice camera in years. <3 My dream camera is a Dslr...always wanted one.

I am also on the hunt to get my Grandpas 35mm camera fixed. He had that when he went to Korea. It is an Olympus pen(?). It's pretty cool, and I still like doing film photographs.

I also have a polaroid camera, but no film. XD

    3. I've recently started using a Canon Rebel XS - my first DSLR. It's a really wonderful camera. I'm in love with it <3

    4. I'm looking up cameras for good doll shots, but all the pictures I like are made by really expensive cameras - $600 and up. Some are even a few thousand, if you throw in equipment too.

So I want to ask DoA, what camera do you use? What equipment do you use? Is it worth it to buy a really nice camera? And please include sample shots you've taken with whatever camera you have.

Please also provide us with information on how much you spent on the whole setup. Tips for better pictures would be great too!

    5. I use a 140$ AIPTEK HD camera and it works wonders, it does not take pics as well as some on here but I love how it can take pics indoors exactly as you see them

    6. i think there is already a thread like this, but i use my dads old nikon cool pix, the flash doesn't work, but with macro i can get some pretty nice shots :)

    7. @Shikima and @my lacerated soul:

Any samples? And I looked for a thread like this, but I just couldn't find it.

    8. I just got a new camera, so at the moment, none of the photos I have up are good examples, but I've gotten better results with my Polaroid i1037 than I've gotten borrowing a more expensive camera, and it was comparatively inexpensive. (and purple! Not gonna lie, it was a big factor for me...)

      =^__^=
      Anneko

    9. i used a canon 400D and now i switched to a nikon 90D

i would say a camera is worth investing if you know you would use it not for doll pics only but others as well....

    10. I use a Canon Rebel Xsi.
It is a great DSLR! It was about $800 new. But I would only buy a Nikon or Canon for my photography ;)

    11. I've used pretty much every single camera in the whole Canon lineup except for the Rebels. My advice is to start off with a cheap DSLR like the Rebel and get a good prime lens that is fast (50mm f/1.8) but affordable. That is a good combination to start with. And YES it is worth it to save up for a nice camera =D Good luck with your camera hunt!

    12. I use my Sanyo Xacti :]

    13. If a DSLR and the related accouterments are beyond what you want to spend, take a look at Canon's S95 and G12, or Nikon's P7000. All of these cameras are in the $350 range and offer high-quality optics, full manual control, better low-light ability than most compact cameras, usable macro modes, and are well-built overall and versatile. The S95 is as small as any average compact camera, while the G12 and P7000 are a big bigger, with more zoom range on their lenses, more buttons and dials (but the same abilities, you just have to go into menus on the S95), and real, although not very good, viewfinders. The P7000 and G12 are essentially identical except for some minor features you can read about elsewhere (I think the G12 has a flip-out swivel screen), so you can basically choose whichever you can get a better deal on, unless you want the compact size of the S95. All three have very similar image quality. (The S95 and G12 actually share internal electronics, including the actual image sensor, and I believe the Nikon uses an almost-identical unit as well.)

    14. I believe there is a thread like this buried in some page around here, but for answers sake, I don't think you really need an expensive camera to get the picture or quality that you'd like. I'm not a photographer (except for leisure). I am however an artist, and trust me, you can take a picture with a 1,ooo dollar camera, and if I'm not getting anything out of looking at it, I won't. Your best bet is to try and get something that you like, something you're comfortable taking pictures with. Work your way up to all of those fancy settings. I've seen SO. MANY. PEOPLE make the choice of spending HUNDREDS on a camera thinking that that's what is going to make them a better photographer... A photographer is a person, not a camera.
Anyway, go with something simple first, and if you're not really confident with the picture, you can always edit it using Photoshop. Even people with expensive cameras come across it a thousand times to make their pictures look beautiful.

Case in point: Comfort first. :P

    15. I use D90 for almost two years now, definitely love it!

    16. I use a Nikon Coolpix S8000 I love his macro.

    17. I have a nikon D3100 (my "auto"birthday present) and I love it :D

    18. I've been using a Kodac EasyShare M340. It's okay, but it has its flaws. I like that it is small and quite portable. I like that it has a tonne of options. The main issue that I have with it is that the flash tends to manipulate or warp the colours way too much.

    19. I use a Nikon D200 with multiple speedlights.

    20. Canon Rebel Xt. Not sure what I would do without it! <3

    21. The old thread is ancient by now -- it was started in 2005, and is almost 600 posts long -- so it may actually be relevant to start a new thread. The camera selection out there has changed a bit these last six years, as have the preferences of doll photogs.

In answer to your query, I use a Nikon D300, and I love it to bits!

    22. I think this is the one that you're looking for but i use KODAK C195

    23. I do other kinds of photography besides dolls, and I switch between a Nikon D2X and D3S.

    24. I use a Canon Rebel T1i, which I really like.

    25. I use a Panasonic Lumix SLR (I think it's the D500 model but I'm not absolutely sure, I'm at work), absolutely love it. I got it for $250 on Ebay from a private seller.

    26. I use a Nikon D90 but i need to learn to use it ;)

    27. I have had great results with my Canon 7D. ^^ I think the photo quality is great!

    28. I have a Kodak M763 (mum's, that I use for quick progress pictures and recording video) and a Nikon D40 that I've had for four years. I loooove my D40 but I'm looking into a different camera soon though, after I get myself a new laptop xD

    29. Canon t2i/550D. Just got it with a 18mm-135mm lens. It's beyond awesome and learning basic manual skills is a breeze!

    30. Sony A580. I looove it so much. :)

    31. Canon EOS 1000D =D Worth the money my sister and I spent on it, that's for sure!

    32. Still using my trusty Nikon D200 but I guess I could be ready for a new body. For me, the magic starts and ends with the mighty 85/1.4.

    33. I have a Lumix FD 45!
I buy then instead a DSRL, i thought it works out but mäh.

Ok the cam is good, much better as the most of the 'normal' Digicams but sometimes i wish i have a dsrl xD

    34. I use a Nikon D300 with a sigma 28-80 lens that Macros at 80mm. I also have a Ricoh KR10 film camera, an original Diana and I also use my iPhone4.

    35. I have a Sony Cybershot....its a fairly cheap digital camera but it takes pretty good pictures. I am looking to eventually get a better camera but this one works for now.

    36. Canon Powershot S5IS and it WAS okay with me until now. I wanted something that I'm able to carry around every day. But trying to photograph a tiny clearly shows this camera's limitations. Maybe I just need a newer modell, because I'm sooooo not into carrying a DSLR. For now I consider going back to 35mm, as I have a decent analogue SLR at home already. Well, a camera's worth of money is now invested in resin and one just can't have everything. :)

    37. I got an oldie Sony Cybershot from a few years back. Dont remember the model name anymore since it has been a while. Due to it's age, it got some problems, but still working so far! It doesnt take nice photos like DSLR does but that's what photoshop is for right? XDD I'm hoping to upgrade it into a DSLR in the future if funds permit!

    38. my go-to gear is my trusty Nikon D700 with 24-70mm f/2.8 for most stuff and for a compact I am very happy with my Panasonic Lumix GF2

    39. I use Pentax K100D with 18-55mm but I want to buy 50mm f/1.7.

    40. Nikon D300s with a whole bunch of lenses and lighting. Not going to clutter up the post with a list but you can look at this flickr pic if you really want to know: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maxarcher/5878955475/in/photostream.

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the D700's successor. I'm ready to go Full-Frame, especially thanks to my crummy eyesight and the FX cameras' bigger viewfinders.

    41. I just got myself a Panasonic Lumix. Eeven though it is not a DSLR, it has very good ratings from users and it was over 100 bucks cheaper than usual. I hope it will get some good pics of whatever I may be able to get in the future

    42. I'm using a Nikon D40x

    43. At this time it is Olumpus e-459 lenses - ED 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6, ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6.
Then I want to take olumpus e-520

    44. I use a basic digital, but I'm looking for something better. Nothing on the professional level, though. My hand tends to tremble, so many of my pics come out blurry. Anyone have any ideas on a camera that can help with that? (And a tripod is out, since I travel a lot and need something easy to carry)

    45. Modern cameras have anti-shaking systems (not sure if they are officially called that). And you don't always need a big tripod, sometimes it helps to press the camera against a wall, a piece of furniture etc. And there are plenty of very small tripods that can clench at things, don't have an english term for them either, sorry.

    46. Nikon D3100 with multiple lenses!

    47. Mine is a Nikon D3100, which you can get for pretty cheap off of Ebay! (around $400 if you buy the body and lens separately)

    48. this for me too, i love my Nikon :) greater "starter" DSLR without the obnoxious price tag :)

    49. nikon d70s and a little nikon coolpix that i often find myself using.

yes a lot of modern camera's and lenses have some sort of VR (vibration reduction) it can help reduce small motion blur and allow you to take relatively clear pictures in slightly darker conditions than you would normally do.

    50. I have... Olympus SZ-20 16megapixel

    51. Nikon D60 w/ an 50mm f/1.4 lens.

The lens doesn't auto-focus with my D60 which means that, as someone new to photography, I really have to concentrate and move to get a good shot so I'm learning a lot from it! :D

    52. Canon Rebel T1i with the default 18-55mm lens. I love it! And even without any high tech lenses, I've found that with enough practice I can get some really satisfying shots.

    53. I use a Nikon d3100 with a standard 18-55mm But I want a macro and a 50mm...

    54. I use a Nikon D40 with various lenses. I'm looking into getting a flash diffuser, too.

    55. Canon T2i/550D + a few primes (I hate my two zooms) :'I

    56. Cannon XSI. Its like my most prized possession ^^

    57. I just use a point and shoot type thing...I'm no photographer and I only occasionally take photos so I haven't bothered forking out a lot of money for a better camera. :) I do like photographing my dolls, but that's not why I bought them.

    58. Sony A230 and lenses: 50mm(my love *_*), 18-55mm(default), 75-300mm.
