What camera do you use?

Jan 16, 2011

    1. I have the canon T2i and I love it :D

    2. I use a Canon 650D, and when I bought it, they gave me a lot of freebies including two extra lenses and a cleaning kit and an SD card :D Best day to shop for a camera that was!

I love it, sure it drives me nuts sometimes when it lags and acts dumb (literally will scan around to focus on stuff and never does), but hey, it's a machine. I attended a Photography class and I'll never forget what the instructor told us: "You control the camera, the camera doesn't control you."

Everyone kept telling me the megapixels don't matter too much, and I never got it until recently. A good DSLR is good depending on how you use it. ;) Mine is 18 Megapixels I guess? Good, and there is higher, although I don't find myself needing the extra Megapixels. All I needed was clear crisp pictures and mine does the job. I fiddle around with the colour settings on Lightroom and then it becomes extra fabulous <3

    3. I use Nikon D3200
I used my phone for pics before but then I decided to get a camera I think pictures come more clearly with it

    4. Im prob gonna have to buy a point and shoot. theres no way a dslr is in my cards anytime soon :(

    5. Canon T2i
I am think to switch to a small one....to me kind of too big and heavy.
      Still looking for it :3

    6. I bought my Canon Rebel XSi kit from Costco about 4 years ago, and I still absolutely love it! It has been a great camera and well worth the price! It's only a 12 MP camera, but it gets the job done. :D

    7. I have a D7000 but I get lazy and just use my iPhone!

    8. I have too many, but I also do some portrait photography work so I pretty much always own at least two DSLRs at any given time.

I use a Nikon D810 for all serious work. It's big, metal, heavy, weather sealed, and packs a huge 36 megapixel full frame sensor which grabs a ridiculous amount of detail. All of these features make it ideal for..... portrait and studio work, but it doesn't really give me any benefit with doll photography.

I use a Nikon D5300 for less serious things when I still want good image quality. All in all, it's 24 Megapixel Sensor doesn't capture as much detail as the 36 on the D810 and the imaging sensor is smaller so it's not as good in low light, but it's a great performer when I don't need the super-mega-pro build and all the bells and whistles of the D810. This camera is my choice for dolls most of the time now.

I have a Sony RX-100M II that I throw in my pocket just to have a good quality camera with me when I don't want to lug around a DSLR. I've used it for doll shots before and it's fine but I can't use all of my crazy Nikon accessories with it so it's not the #1 option if I have time for an elaborate setup.

I have a Nikon 1 V2 that I usually use for travel and landscapes / cityscapes because I have an ultrawide lens for it. Of my cameras it has the worst noise performance so I tend to only use it when I have a ton of light outdoors.

If anyone is looking to buy a camera I always push them towards a used DSLR rather than a point and shoot. For the money you'll get way better images out of a 6 year old DSLR than you will a modern point and shoot unless you spend $700 USD on a real premium one!

    9. I've been into photography for many years and currently have a Nikon D800. It's the older model of Rensuchan's D810. I love it as it can do video as well as incredible low light shots.

When it comes to doll photography I'm more inclined to use my 50mm lens or 105mm macro. If I'm super tight on space (which tends to be most of the time) I'll use my super wide 14-24mm for the shot.

I'd love to get an 85mm but that money has gone towards getting my dolls and associated goods :D Still with my camera I've got in mind a little video to create. Storyboarding first, then filming, and finally music composition. I'm so excited about it! :D

    10. Hi Nauticaa, yay Nikon user :)

Do you have any doll photos taken with that 14-24? I'm curious about how close it can focus.

For doll shots I tend to use a 28-105mm old lens from the film era because it can focus close enough to do 1:2 macro which works great for smaller dolls though eventually I want to upgrade to a true 1:1 macro lens like your 105mm.

    11. I use the Canon Rebel T3. I "borrowed" it from my mom/work
Since she has two I've been using the second one for my work and doll adventures.

    12. I'm Only using ipad camera, or phone, or Digital camera...I have canon dslr but I'm too lazy to move the pict to my computer then transfer it to my phone or something -_- I'm sorry for being so lazy...

    13. I haven't tried getting really close but here is an example that I took a few months back. You an get a really close focus though (10cm from lens hood) for super extreme shots.

      A 1:2 macro is great still :)

    14. I use Fujifilm X-Pro1 and Nikon DSLRs. Most times, I use speed light but sometimes use desk lamp or high intensity torch.

    15. I use a Nikon D3100

    16. Nikon D5200 here - as long as the megapixels are large enough to accommodate most HD TVs, then you really gotta worry about the other settings and most importantly for BJDs, the lens. For close ups, macros, and activity shots, I prefer a lens with a very narrow depth of field. That means lots of blurring in the background (this is known as "bokeh.")

Now when I want to shoot the Milky Way at night, I have a wide angle lens with a very low F-stop capability. The F-stop is how much light the lens allows to enter into the lens, capturing stars and such in the night sky.

But that's the night sky. ;)

    17. I have a Nikon D3200 as well and I love it. My old point and shoot was also a Nikon - a Coolpix S6000. It was good, but sometimes pics washed out in sunlight.

    18. I am using Canon 550D and I am planning to get a new len. Still confused about which to get.:pout:

    19. using pentax k5. seems not common haha..

    20. For photos using Olympus E-520. I like the way it transmits color

    21. I currently have only been using my iphone camera (bad me!) but I sometimes get to use an older model Nikon.

    22. Pentax K30! and my trusty 17-50mm F2.8 Tamron lens. or the Pentax 50mm F1.8 lens.

Still considering if I wanna save up and upgrade to a Pentax K3. Thank goodness all my dolls are paid off.

    23. I use a Nikon D60 and a Nikon Coolpix P500. I like the D60 more.

    24. I use a few different cameras, I've got a kodak, a nikon, and a cannon and I think I like the nikon best. Nikon has better lens options than cannon in my opinion. They all take decent pictures depending on what I'm trying to do.

    25. I use Canon EOS 600D with Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens (for photoshoot one or two dolls) and Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens when I take a photo in BJD meet in my town

    26. When it comes to DSLR's I'm a confirmed Pentaxian. I'm a photographer by trade so I have more than one DSLR body. I can't afford to be sans a back up or two. I currently shoot with a K5II and 2 K-30's. For casual photography I also like M43 cameras. I have a couple of Olympus E-P3's. Old film SLR's I have a bunch, mostly Pentax, but I have a couple of Chinon and Yashica SLR's too. I do like to still shoot film sometimes, but that's something I like to do for fun. For work it's all digital now. Yeah, I have a lot of cameras, but usually I buy my equipment used and I'm a very savvy shopper. I spent as much on my 3 Pentax DSLR's as some Nikon or Canon people would on one. I really like Pentax, always have. They make truly great cameras and I feel I always get really good value for my $$$. I'm not keen on their smaller format cameras, hence the Olympus M43 cameras, but for DSLR's I wouldn't buy anything else.

    27. I use a Nikon D7000 (mostly for indoor shots) and Canon 700d (outdoors) + a variety of different lenses.

    28. I use Canon EOS M with their lenses.

    29. I use Canon Eos 1200D with EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens (I bought this lens just recently, before that I use EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS)

    30. My iPhone. 3GS.

      *coughs in an embarrased way*

I do mean to save up for a Nikon Coolpix. But every time I have money, there's a doll that looks more attractive than the camera :XD:

    31. I use my iPhone 5s <_<" I know that lame as heck but it takes better pictures than my clunky '04 Sony cyber-shot (which by technology standards is ancient). My Sony has always taken super grainy photos even in well lit areas and with flash.

    32. Nikon D3100 when I am going for a more project feeling, and now I have an iPhone 6 that I will very likely use casually.

    33. I have a Nikon J1 that I don't know how to use to try to take better photos, but I also use my samsung galaxy for casual photos.

    34. Panasonic Lumix DMC GM 1 with a short telephoto lens

    35. I have a canon EOS 400D, it's an older model but it works out great! I also have a macro lens from Tamron but i rarely use it tbh..

    36. I use a Nikon Coolpix L830 which works pretty well for me. I had one of the fancy Canon ones a few years ago, but I sold it before I ever got into dolls, I'm not highly regretting that choice :...(

    37. I use a Nikon D60, but my lens is much better than the body cam. I need one urgently T_T

    38. Nikon D3200 :aheartbea

    39. My main digital camera is a Canon 5D Mark II. I also shoot film pretty regularly. My main 35mm film camera is a Canon EOS 1V and my main 120 film camera is a Rolleiflex Automat MX.

I also have an assortment of old digital and film cameras that I use for fun sometimes.

    40. I have moved to a Canon 7D Mark II with a 35 f 2.0 with IS as my primary camera. I really like the focus flexibility that this camera has. Its very easy to select a focus point and to do image stacking for shallow dept of field lens.

    41. Nikon D3100 for more artistic pictures, my mobile for anything else ^~^

    42. Panasonic Lumix G3 body & Olympus 50mm macro / 25mm f1.4 len

    43. Canon T3i, takes awesome macros, great for those face-shots.

    44. I use a Canon 70d along with my 85mm 1.8 lens mostly for my dolly shots, I love the depth of field with this lens :)

    45. i used to have a canon powershot sx510 before, and then i got a nikon d3300 with 50mm f 1.4 lens

    46. I use Canon Eos 800D, mostly. It's easy to use, although I really need one or two new lenses. I'm dreaming of a really fancy camera, but I can't afford that, and I would probably never learn to use one, so I'll stick with what I have. :)

    47. I'm using the cheapest I could find some two years ago... Fuji jv250. I did consider getting an actual dslr for some time... but I just couldn't care less for it now ;) i'd rather just buy myself a new doll lol xD

it's good outdoor (has three programs particularly useful for bjds:) and with some retouch the pics are really nice, but indoor it's not much better than a mobile would have been lol xD it's very tiny though (like a small mobile phone) and handy, so it's awesome when i'm going outside with two heavy SDs ;)

    48. I use a Nikon D90 with the AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm lens that it came with. I keep meaning to save up for a new lens, but then a new doll is released and we all know how THAT goes...

    49. My main camera is a Canon 70D with either a 28-135 mm lens or a 108 mm one. For snap shots I have a Canon Ixus 115 and if all else fails there's my phone.

    50. I started out using a Nikon 3000 but now I use a Nikon D7000 with a 50mm lens. I hope to get another lens soon.

    51. Right now I'm stuck with the camera on my iPod but I'm saving up for a Nikon 3000.

    52. I use a Canon EOS Rebel t6s and with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. I upgraded from a Nikon Coolpix L820 a couple months ago, and absolutely love my new Canon t6s.

    53. For me i am currently using either my phone camera or a digital camera but i have been making plans on getting a good DSLR camera for my doll photography and am slowly saving for it, am hoping that i will be able to save up enough by end of this year. ^^

    54. I use a Nikon D3200 with the lens that comes in the kit, but I might get a 50mm one later on..

    55. I use a canon 6D with a wide angle lens and a macro lens, both great lenses for doll photography

    56. I use a Canon EOS 50D with 24-105MM lens

    57. I use a canon 5D with 24-105mm.

    58. My dad is a big camera nerd, so he got me a Canon EOS M a few years back and I absolutely love it!

    59. I have a canon powershot but I don't think I'm using it right. I also use the camera on my samsung galaxy 5.
