I recently got a Pentax K-r 12.4MP DSLR--I'm having a lot of fun with it. But it was fairly expensive. The macro settings are absolutely fantastic, though, so it fulfills all my needs. I wish the flash didn't white out everything, though. That's the only real problem.
Try taping a few pieces of tissue paper/tracing paper over the flash. It'll diffuse the light so it won't be so strong!
Thanks! I'll try both of those. I was actually considering trying different colors of tissue paper over the flash for effects, so I'll take a bash at it. My older Pentax didn't do it nearly as much, so I think the new bulb is just too bright.
I use a Canon EOS 1000D for my doll photography. The quality of photos isn't solely in the equipment, though. It's also in the skill of the one holding the camera.
i have a nikon coolpix that use for all my photography. haven't found too much it can't handle yet and that includes raver pics, cosplay, dolly photography, and rock concerts.
I've just purchased an Olympus Pen Mini E-PM1 and I'm loving it so far Makes such a different to my doll photography ^^
As of now I use Nikon D3000, but I think it;s time to change it-it is not a bad camera, but since I bought it almost 3 years ago, I consider it 's old ) and I need some upgrades ) But, lightning for sure is a key to a great pictures
Added a mirrorless system, to eventually replace my SLR, though I still want a Canon 5D mkII one day. I'll use CSC (Compact System Camera) as my acronym. What brand & model is your CSC? Olympus E-PL1 & Panasonic GF3 When did you purchase your CSC? August 2012 & December 2012 respectively. What was the price? About $150 & $300 with S&H. Where did you purchase your CSC? Cameta Camera & Amazon. Did you purchase your CSC with the kit lens? No for the Olympus, yes for the Panasonic: 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Pancake PZ OIS. If you have other lenses, what are they? Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Pancake What is your favorite lens to use with your CSC when photographing your dolls and why? 20mm pancake. What other types of photography do you shoot with your CSC? Product, night, landscape, vacation. How do you classify yourself in photography: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. Advanced. While I still don't shoot as often as I could, I have decent command over the technical aspects, including flash. I use Lightroom 4 for post (local adjustments are so good). There's a big difference between advanced and master though. Have you taken photography classes/training before? No.
i'v wanted a camera for long time. however, when finally i got enough money, i'm hesitating about whether to buy one or not. as you may know, almost the excellent cameras were made in japan...... so i think i may have to wait a more longer period......
Everyone has cool cameras... :O but I'll still share the fact I use the camera on my PHONE... :,D I have Nokia's N8, and to me, that camera suits well for now. I have a digital camera, but it's quite old, and it would be stupid to use camera, when I get better pictures with phone. (for example; camera-5Mpxl phone-12Mpxl, tough those aren't the only thing that matter :,D ) And to horrify people even more; I use flash. almost always. It's always so dark here (in Finland) even on summer. 8( And now that's autumn, there's nowhere near enough daylight! And the room where my dolls live, I have black curtains. But basically, I'm quite happy with these equipment. :3
I have a really nice camera but I feel I must be doing something wrong, I get one out of 50 that I actually like. I guess I am going to have to do some more research on how to use it.
I use a really terrible camera. A Sony DSC-W120. It's a hit or miss when it comes to photos. I would prefer a DSLR to take photos. At least I think they would make my photography look better, but I can't afford anything though. ^^:
I use a Sony Cybershot HX100v right now but I finally have the money to upgrade to a DSLR! I can't decide which camera to use though, I'm planning to get two lenses to start with but I can't decide between Canon T3i, Nikon D90 and Sony A77. Anyone with experience with those cameras? That's really good for dolly photography, because honestly, that's what I mostly want the camera for. That, and as well as people photography and nature photography.
I use a webcam (HP Pavillion web cam + Macbook Pro web cam) sometimes but usually a Nikon Coolpix camera. nothing fancy EDIT: I have also used some borrowed DSLRs from friends, family or rented from my university's art department. I have used the Nikon D3100 and D5100 as well as the Canon EOS 60D and 70D. My favorite would have to be the Canon 60D but that may be because it had a really amazing lens (Sigma I think), the Nikon 3100D is what I learned to shoot on so I think that one is good too.
Soap: All three are very nice, I own myself a canon but I would say you should find more tuto and second hands things and accessories on Nikon. More thant canon or Sony even if they are very good cameras. I also recommande you a lens with a Zoom like 28/80mm if possible with the Macro option for better quality. And if you could a 50 mm lens without zoom, ideal for portrait and dolls. I deeply recommande a speedy memory cartridge, you'll need a good one, don't buy a cheap one. Chibi : You can takes pics with the webcam ? Curious to see the results, the Coolpix camera should be correct for nices pictures.
I used to have a 2nd-hand Canon Powershot A95 when I started the BJD hobby and it has served my photoshoots for a long time until it started failing on me. ^^ Now, I own an Olympus Pen E-PL3 with the dual lens kit: 12-44 and 40-150
I've always used my dad's Nikon D40 for "important" things, and now that he's bought himself a new fancy camera, it appears that the old Nikon is now mine :I We'll see how long this lasts, haha. I should probably get a lens that can handle poor lighting and macro better :/
@elfire yeah, my webcam has a "snapshot" option so it can take pictures (you can add frames and effects to the pics too) the quality isn't that great though it might be better if I had a better light source here's a pic that I took using my laptop's webcam ChibiRat3019's DeviantArt Gallery (don't have an example with the Mac but it is a bit nicer)
I switch between a Nikon D40 and a D90. Just depends on what I grab first >.< I also use macro lenses and umbrella lights as often as I can. As far as programs go, I use Aperture, and don't mess with how my doll looks too much. I'm not into cropping, or photoshop too much.... I think it takes away from the doll, imo.
I use an Ebony SV45U wooden 4x5 view camera. I have a Fuji pack film back for instant film and a 6x9 roll film back so I can shoot 120 film since it's cheaper than shooting 4x5 sheet film for dolly photos. If I have to I scan the negatives and bring them into Photoshop though mostly I only make some minor color or exposure adjustments and of course resizing for the web. I'm not big on using PS too much. Mostly I make prints in the darkroom, I don't like messing with digital that much though for the web it's obviously necessary.
My dad and I share our Nikon D300, but I have no freakin' clue how to operate it, so I usually use my Lumix 12x. The Lumix isn't for everyone, but I like it. Now I need to go read that manual so I can use the Nikon....
I used to have a canon 20D, but recently gave it to my sister and got a sony nex-5n (basically it's a mirrorless DSLR in a teeny tiny point and shoot case with interchangable lenses.) Yep. I love it! It is definatley NOT cheap but well worth the expense, especially if you get the twin lens pack.
You have yourself a really good entry level DSLR there, Pentax have the best quality lenses. As for your flash problem, you should be able to adjust the flash exposure (basically like a f-stop for your flash) I'm sure there would be details in your manual. I think your camera is adjustable -2.0 to +1.0 stops in 1/2 or 1/3-stop increments, but dont quote me on that. I realise your post was from a while back, but you never know
I use my school's camera, Canon EOS 450D. Well, I've had it now..wait..like a 4 months?! x''D Oh my..but that's not really a problem, 'cause I'm studying graphic design, and photographing is also important part of our studies, so I'm free to keep that camera so long as I need it..so behind my studies I use it to take pics of my dolls 8''D But I've asked my parents to by me a own camera, Canon EOS 600D+. My mom would like to buy it to me already, but she has to ask my dad first, so..yeah. When I'll get my own camera, I won't need my school's camera anymore x''D
I have a Nikon d40x. It's not the best camera, but it does what I need it to do. I only wish I had a newer camera bc of the motor for autofocus
Canon EOS 7D with a 28-135mm lens :3 I also use it for portrait photography as well as landscape (With different lenses) Its my baby
I mainly use a Canon Rebel T3i, but I also have a Rebel XS as backup! Usually, I use a 18-55mm lens or a 100mm macro lens when photographing my dolls. But just recently, I received a Canon Rebel G (film), so I'm excited to start experimenting with that when my film photography class starts this year.
I'm trying to use my big canon camera for a good quality photos, but I usually go for whatever is clouther. Like a mobile phone or an ipad ^^"
I currently have a Samsung point and shoot (12.2 megapixels) and will be moving up to a Canon Rebel 3Ti (600D, 18 megapixels) with a 50mm f/1.8 lens in the coming weeks.
I have a little Kodak p&s thingy, but I also have a Nikon F60, a Nikon EM and a Nikon D3100. My 'main' camera at the moment is the DSLR Nikon D3100.
I'm using an Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the m.Zuiko 60mm f2.8 macro. Really loving this combo so far. For wider shots I use the Lumix 20mm f1.7 lens.
I was using a Sony Cybershot for soo long by Boyfriend bought me a Canon 550D for christmas, I still cant use it to its full potential! and since getting an iphone ive loved taking pics and playing around with them on the apps and instagram.
I'm using a Canon EOS 1000D, or my iPhone. Depends on what quality I'd like to have and what I'm gonna take pictures of ^^
I buyed my Canon EOS Rebel T3 for my birthday, it was like 5 day before my soulkid got shipped to me. I really need to learn more about it because I don<t know all the options. But I really love it becasue it's just perfect for me.
I have a very basic (ie: I have figured out how to use it!) old 3mp compact (olympus camedia c310) I use photshop elements 5 (£11 second hand off amazon) to tweak the levels in all my photos - they'd be completely hopeless otherwise! I know I need a new camera, but well I also need new dolls don't I - not much contest there LOL
Canon EOS 350D (aka Rebel XT) or a Fuji compact (sort of fun camera I suppose, but it's light and waterproof). I do have a Canon Ixus, but the battery connections are on the fritz so my dear old dad is going to take a look at it. I would like a bridge camera really, maybe a Nikon.
I'm using EOS-M, 1DMkII and 10D for most of my shoots. GRD-2, LX5 and TX9 and iPhone for day-to-day usage. There are usually two cameras with me at all time.
I use a Nikon Cool Pics -- But I am hunting for a new camera. This is great, but not great on close - ups == and inconsistent about taking fuzzy pics. So-- I really enjoy hearing about what you all recommend.
