Thank you! (Although technically also most professional doll wigs are handmade hehe ) And I feel you - the styles and colours and the styles in the colours I want are never available either, it's very puzzling how there are so many wigs for sale and none of them are ever fitting. Good luck with sewing your wigs! It's a rocky road but it gets there in the end
- I know! It's like - gimme that ONE or TWO styles I really, really want! I was able to do one style from a purchased wig because these were simple, long braids for a character from a childhood book I want to sew clothes for, but other than that - eh... Difficult. - Thank you! Luckily there are headcaps available on Aliexpress, so I don't have to worry about that and additionally I am starting small - 1/6 size, so whatever happens - it won't be a long pain and if I make a mistake, it will be less painful. Hair, already in wefts, was also cheap, so again - no regrets there if something happens, but darn, I need a couple of styles that are not on the market. :/
This was a relatively quick crafting thing since I hardly have time for the dolls these days, but I made a necklace for my mini SartoriaJ Demian, integrating sailing knots into the cords. His character captains his own ship in their TTRPG selves, and his sparse accessories were meant to reference that. The Mariner by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr
Handsome guy :3 Maybe do the hair band using the knots as well to tame those fabulous hair of his? You know, at the sea he will constantly be blinded by his hair and the matting - dear Davy Jones!
Ahahaha he does tie his hair back at sea and covers it up with a hat, but finding/making a captain/pirate hat is a project for another day. (And he's the sort of guy who'd be more than happy to ally with Davy Jones if it meant getting the job done faster, lol.)
I'm in a handsewing hyper focus my two handstitched projects include a fluffy Edwardian dress for Iplehouse BIDs, and rococo stays for a Volks MSD.
SD sized large chocolate bars! Used a (cleaned) Lindt silver wrapper for the tinfoil wraps and designed and printed my own labels.
I found mini kigurumi masks on Aliexpress, so I guess I'll be crafting two furry kigurumi masks for my dolls?? Time to make them fursonas, I guess!
I'll be covering my year in reading by making 1/12 scale versions of all the books I complete for my dolls! Hopefully I'll finish enough books to give them a decent shelf.
I've been knitting up some cabled sweaters for my 1/4 scale girl. I wrote the pattern as I went, so there are definitely some parts that could probably be refined a little, but I'm happy with how the first one turned out anyway. I'm working on another one now with a looser fit/less shaping, and more of a tunic length.
I love the off the shoulder sweaters! This looks like something that is in my closet right now that you just shrunk, amazing detail and work!
My current project involves costumes for a masquerade ball. Masquerade by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr Masquerade - Cliff, Rei, C.C. by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr Masquerade - video by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr This costume is inspired of Dollmore's limited "Into enigma" clothing: C.C. - masquerade by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr
Chain maille using unconventional materials. It will be fantastic or an epic fail. Either way, I’ll learn something.
I'm planning on doing a similar lolita skirt to my doll that I'm doing for myself. I just need to decide if I want to do it with the same fabric or try to find something more in scale with the doll.
I've tried so many times for my minis and always failed miserably, but today I sat down for a couple hours and made shoes for my large girl. Sewing the uppers down rather than gluing them to the sole was surprisingly a less fiddly/frustrating option, I think that's always been where I messed up in the past. I think I might try making another pair while her real shoes are still in the mail, although ballet flats are not the most interesting shoes for me (it's just all I know how to make T_T)
I've been making a brushed yarn wig for Cloud. It's not perfect, but I think it's at least close enough to be recognizable, and not bad for a first attempt. I think I need a silicon wig cap to stop it sliding around his head while I style it.
I finally have a safe place for my dolls to hang out in on display where my cats can't steal their wigs and accessories, so they are finally out of storage. Sadly my favourite wig for my Iplehouse Cocori did not survive the cats. So I'm making her one... and I can't half ass making my first large wig. It's a braided yarn wig. I have hand braided .... so many braids over the past week. Let see if I can turn all of this into something decent!!
I'm getting back into the hobby after a few years away, so currently trying to craft a bit of everything! I made this backdrop wall from card, plaster, stencil and paints. Sewed the outfits for my Iplehouse FIDs (I've got a bit better at sewing in the meantime!). And made some little plantpots, potted with real plants, and some card visual props...
And - I've now finished making the second - long - wall for my set up. Which will make staging for photography a lot easier ;-) Shown here with Iplehouse FID Raffine for scale (1/4)!
Shrinkomatic that looks amazing!! Backdrops are my next big project, LOVE the aged brick look you are going for! Can't wait to see how you decorate the space! I'll need a break before making another braided wig, but I am happy with how it is going. I stopped and started as I ran in to problems like running out of black yarn, getting the wrong sized beads, loosing my craft appropriate glue, and of course seasonal migraines. BUT!!!! I finally found beads that go on the braids without fighting that also look size appropriate! I learned so much creating this wig that I DO want to make another one... just not right away. I will post again once I have it all beaded and on my doll I made it for later!
Thanks so much Auro - and beautiful work on your wig! That looks like very intricate craftsmanship! Do hope you'll post a photo in situ on your model when finished!
I've only made a few shoes for OT antique dolls and others and shoes is one area where the smaller you go the harder it gets IMO. Allowances are just so tight with so little give. Nice job on these though. I wouldn't think such a bold pattern would work as good as it does. I do now have this desire to see the entire doll with loud hosiery and an 80's inspired outfit.
I just finished making a saddle + bridle set for one of my 1/4 scale horses. It's not a BJD horse technically, but that's what I'm using it for. Anyway, here's a couple pics.
Thank you! The saddle that came with it was pleather, and it started to degrade, so I took it apart and made a pattern with it. The only parts of the original saddle remaining are the buckles and the hard rubber thing that was inside the seat.
IT IS DONE!!! Joint pain made me have to go just a few braids beaded a day, but the wig is FINISHED and I am never doing a wig as intensely beaded as this one again. But hey, go big or go home I guess! I have a little 360 video of it but not sure how I can post it here. Had to use velcro to make sure the wig stayed put because all those beads are HEAVY.
@Auro that wig is so gorgeous and looks amazing on the doll. love the accent colors you chose and the whole thing is so perfectly in-scale. plus i always love an over the top elaborate craft project
@Auro gorgeous! And it looks so good on her! I love when people take advantage of how creative different hairstyles can be.
@cobaltconduct Wow! So beautiful shoes! @shrinkomatic Please share your tutorial, because this is really great! @Auro Amazing wig! It must have been very difficult to do! My last works were floating paper lanterns Tōrō Nagashi. It was inspired by Natsunosekai/Natsumi. The lanterns didn't float much because it was raining a lot. Obon - the lanterns by Arengil Tajedinápravá, on Flickr (with owner: Gobloch)
Amazing that you finished your wig @Auro , it looks wonderful, and well worth all the hard work! Hope your hands have recovered! And thank you @Arengil - would happily share steps if people were interested Your lanterns are beautiful - and such an atmospheric shot too, magical! I finally finished my third wall this weekend - with a door in it, from an old cupboard door and a mini handle! I've also been making a setting for a mini cast iron stove out of mini bricks, foamboard and wood. The stove was far too low to the ground for my MSD dolls - so I've mounted it on some wooden blocks to bring it to the right height, then built a surround, a backdrop and a chimney from mini bricks, around foamboard, and weathered them... Shown with dolls for scale, and hopefully the time to photograph this all properly soon (though still trying to sew them all outfits and build a fireplace next!)...
Thanks so much both! I've finished the fire surround now for my fireplace (base, background, mantelshelf, chimney from the stove - again a base of wood, foamboard and cardboard, with a load of minibricks and some weathering). So here it is against the backdrop and as part of a set up for some photos this evening!
Ah thank you so much - that's very kind and much appreciated! Just a quick photo from yesterday evening when completed, to give an idea of what the fireplace and walls look like in practice... Thanks!
