Making some open books....using this YouTube video - Although mine are 1/4 scale, so have more sewing in the spine....
Dolly food??? These look good enough to it, I’d want some pie for myself. I’m not a very crafty person to be honest... so I’m not making anything for any of my dolls. However, I enjoy conceptualizing my dolls’ overall aesthetic — from the faceup & bodyblushing to the wig down to the clothes & shoes. So whenever I’ve found an artist that I know can execute those concepts, I immediately send the doll out to them & my inputs somehow come pouring in during the entire process.
I've been diving into trying to figure out sewing, so I made a pair of undies and an undershirt for Cricket last night, I'm pretty happy with them even though they're simple, since I didn't bother finding a pattern Also am making a bed out of craft sticks, and I knitted a blanket for it, which is what he's sitting on here It gives him a nice safe spot to sit out of the way of my kitten when I'm not playing with him.
Super cute and very nice work on your sewing project. Did you use an old t-shirt? The hem on the tank looks cover stitched. Fits your doll well. Have fun, sewing for my dolls is my favorite thing!
I love the mini books! I've made a couple, but the bindings never want to sit flat. I'm trying to get back into crafting stuff for my doll... I've been kinda out of touch. BUT! I just got some really thin scrap leather so I'm going to see if I can build a leather corset, and some armour peices. I'll add pics if the patterns actually work out...
How did you go about making your dress form? That's something I've been toying with doing for my dolls for ages, but can't come up with a good method of making one.
Ah the tape method! I do actually have a dress form made that way for my biggest girl (and myself actually XD ) I always ask when I see people make forms, as I love this method, but it doesn't work the best for itty bitty dolls and I'm always hoping someone has come up with a really good method for them!
I saw some otedama-inspired cushions for humans online, and I thought my dolls would love to have some. I finally got around to stuffing the 18 (!!) pillows I made for them. Obviously, only a fraction of them can be seen in this photo. Pillows by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr
I just made my girl Galatea a knit scarf: Unfortunately, Murmur is a bit too small to fit one, although I might crochet one for her to match. (She currently has a crochet shawl from the same yarn.)
I just made some tiny nativity scenes for Christmas photos.... Parts were cut from thick cardboard. Finished creches here - Tiny Nativity Scenes
im making lots of t-shirts and want to dress up my impldoll boy :-) he needs clothes. and ofcourse, I'm trying to make some flat shoes for my dollshe craft 26f body :-) her feet is so big :-)
I really want to make some walls for a backdrop inside my doll cabinet. I bought the wood panels, so step one is done I guess?lol
Yup step one, now on to step two which I find hard to do myself at times. Finishing what is almost completed is another of my problems. Best of luck because finished projects always lead to happy doll photos.
Double post, Oops I made slippers for my newest mature tiny. I need to get a photo of him in them. slippers by SteamWitch, on Flickr EDIT: Cian in his new slippers Cian and his presents by SteamWitch, on Flickr
I'm so wildly envious of your plants! the light in our apartment is terrible and my plants just languish like delicate heroines from 18th century pulp novels
Thanks. We built that sunroom attachment on out kitchen the year after we moved here. It's a little crowded with plants right now, over-wintering until next spring. My kitchen table is my number one workspace.
Your setup is so well done. Love the idea of the chair rail, it allows the addition of the pieces that make the scene so complete. Bravo!
Ugh, I keep restarting this crochet top/tunic/dress thing for Artemis. Why she gotta be *so* boob-tacular?
Making a belt for Cirrus, my Soom Minigem Rick. I have several hundred SS beads just sitting in my stash and this gorgeous cut glass button. I figured why not. Belt for Cirrus by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Oh no. Oh no no no. You guys, my wig cap stretched out and now I have to remove the wefts and start ALL OVER.
Could you get some of that thread-like elastic and sew it into the edge of the wig cap, maybe in several rows?
I find it helps if I stitch a thin wire around the edge of my wig cap - on the outside. Keeps the wig from stretching. It also helps to keep the sideburn area close to the head for guys....
I made a handful of elastic wig caps (and totally failed to make some glued hard caps) for an FID and my new Dream Valley Bustet. Now to figure out what to do eith them. xD
I'm excited, I'm going to jump in on this wig making spree as well soon... just bought a ventilating need that should get here in a couple weeks, and I've got some soy fiber now. Anyone have any experience in dyeing soy fiber? I imagine it's pretty straightforward (I've dyed fabrics before, for example), but if anyone knows of any gotchas I'm all ears
I dyed soy with fabric dye, worked perfect. I did a cold bath with regular Rit dye, the longer you leave it the darker the colour. Soy goes a bit weird when wet, so I just did it in small sections and waited til it was completely dry before combing it out.
Great Idea! (adds to ideas pile) very cool esp for those side sections. maybe even helpfull for mutonchops.
I can't wait to see what you come up with! I have a sleigh pattern I want to make and need the harness too. There are some American girl carts and sleighs I've been looking at to copy. I am not a horse person so it's hard to think of the logistics of a horse pulling with all the equipment attached.
Everything on the horse's head is pretty much what they wear for riding, including blinders, which some horses need at all times when out in the world to prevent shying. The sidecheck is to keep them from tossing their heads and rearing, as is the forked neckstrap. The collar is to put the stress of pulling on the chest, not the throat, so they don't choke. The false martingale keeps the collar in place. The belly girth and overgirth also help distribute the weight being pulled, the breeching keeps it all from moving forward as well as being a point of attachement for what the horse is pulling, as do the backstrap and hipstrap. The traces are the two rigid "sticks" that attach to the wagon or sled. The breeching strap and tugs are what hold those to the horse. The crupper is exactly like the one on a riding horse and for the same reason. to keep the saddle from moving forward on the horse's back. All that rig breaks down into: Horse control Harness to enable the horse to pull something Harness to keep the stuff the horse needs to pull something from moving foward or backward on the horse. Now, because of that, there is a lot you can simplify away if you just don't want to mess with it and don't care about horse enthusiasts coming after you.
Thanks. I did a simple harness, which could use some improvement, so will keep your illustration in mind for fixing it.
On my personal current theme in this thread of making/playing with/learning about wigs, I did a little restyling of a very fluffy wig that came with my Unoa, and made it more of a vibe I like for my Volks SDC girl. I really disliked this wig when I got it, and I REALLY wanted to try to figure out if I could update it to something I do like. I think I want to dye the wig light brown or Anne of Green Gables kind of red/orange... and maybe try to paint the little clips..? I'm a big fan of the tiny pigtails. She's going to get some pastel/leafy colored clothing soon for spring, so I think her hair should stay a light color. Thoughts?
Okay so since I have 1,259.7 craft projects going on at once, here's another thing I'm working on... Cosplay for my Comi Baby Cutie Yori to be Vanellope from Wreck It Ralph. Her wig is in the mail and I can almost TASTE success. Just need to add some pink detailing on her sweater to get a little closer to the full outfit. @Answer42 Thank you for your compliment I'm not sure if you were referring to another doll, so just for your reference/clarification, the wig is from one of my Unoa dolls, and the doll I shared in the wig post here is actually a Volks SDC Gretel. Love them both with all my heart of course edit: these pictures are pretty garbage quality now, which seems to be a result of resizing the image to be smaller in imgur? sorry about that. Her eyes are pretty awesome & match the reference AWESOMELY, so I'll be sure to share a more detailed/better quality photo when the wig comes in.
I am working on a hoop skirt made from zip ties. Amanda is holding a miniature paper mock up of the gown I will make next to wear with the hoop skirt. Making a hoop skirt from zip ties by Linda, on Flickr
@tinyseams Oh cool! That's a really creative use for zip ties! It's amazing what can be done when you search around your living space for things to create with.. with any open mind!
Resin Valentine's Day treats for the Pub along with fancy tray. I will try to make some chocolate goodies also. Ash and Evz by SteamWitch, on Flickr
@maxxxamillion Thanks. I have a million zip ties - gotta use them up! Here is a pic of her wearing the hoop skirt. I'll make a full length gown to go with. Also next up project is shoes using 3D printed base. (purple in pic) I am snowed in and on a roll. Amanda zip tie hoop skirt by Linda, on Flickr
i made my first wig today! it's... not good, lol! but sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at something so hopefully i'll have something better to show off next time around. Jacob's Wig
I finished construction on my first wig! Pardon the blank model, I had to have it on somebody or it turned into a deflated jellyfish. Many many tiny braids. Since this photo I've redone a bunch of knots to get the length even, and started sewing more beads to braid ends.
I'm in the process of fixing all the saddles for my PG horses. Their stirrups were in the wrong place - too far back, and too high, for my doll's feet - so I cut them off, and am making new stirrups further forward out of leather.... So far two are finished, with three more sets to go.
@MB Lilac I love seeing your work! I cut off a gigantic stirrup on my American Girl saddle and added a much smaller leather stirrup to the vinyl strap but I like the way yours look much better. WIP drop front pants by Linda, on Flickr
@tinyseams - Thanks. Yours seems to fit your doll quite nicely. My dolls are a bit bigger, and the existing stirrups just didn't work. I had tried adding new parts to the bottom of the plastic molded piece, but they were still too far back. I figured since I was fixing two of them, I might as well address all the usable saddles I have.
