A sweater based on this tutorial, I’m hoping to finish tonight so it doesn’t become another unfinished project cluttering my apartment.
Holy crow, @ksu_lynx that is AMAZING! I work with leather so....yeah, I know exactly how much work went into that.
DUDE (tosses a sheet over the unfinished project pile in the living room) the struggle is real. It all used to fit under my coffee table, and now... it doesn't @ksu_lynx - that outfit is AMAZING! So much work, especially the scale mail - well done!
I'm doing an alteration project on a Rainbow High outfit for my Depth's Dolls Lichen! The shirt fit her, but the skirt was too small, so I added a zipper in the skirt and forced it to fit ... haha... I didn't try to be neat since it's just gonna be the back of her, so don't judge :P And then I have been working on cutting the shoes to fit her foot shape. I had to take off the bottom platforms of them to get inside and remove plastic, but it's working out! One is done so far... But my hands are getting tired so will do the second one later! Lookin' pretty streetwear!
I am working on a diorama for my msd scale dolls. They are all fantasy RPG/Renaissance/Dungeons and Dragons style so I'm going for a vaguely historic, fantastical tavern. So far: 1. I built the structure of the walls and base out of plywood 2. covered the floor with a product called "skinny sticks" (until I ran out and had to cut a bunch of jumbo popsicle sticks to match), cut a hole in one wall 3. Cut a hole in one wall for a dollhouse window (which was a whole ordeal since I own no woodworking tools...) 4. Peeled the paper off of one side of foamboard and glued it to the walls 5. glued balsa wood "beams" and textured with tin foil the area above the middle beam to represent lime coated waddle and daub (maybe??) 6. made faux stones out of blobs of foam clay. 7. put a base coat on the wood and foamboard areas. still waiting for the stone blobs to fully cure. Diorama in Progress by Skyealloway, on Flickr Next steps generally include painting, decorating, making dirty, deciding on any light fixtures or wall hangings, at which point I will decide this area is "done" and ready for furniture. The next segment I envision making like the front door, or a fireplace that lights up. Also need to make many "set dressings" like plates and cups and tables and chairs.
Today I finished this pair of men's (MSD) shoes - 6 cm lengt in shades of green, some black and gold yellow. Ralphgitaar
Amazing! I've been tempted to try working on similar as my characters need leather and armors but I will admit the idea intimidates me. This is gorgeous! I have been trying for weeks to get proper wigs. I can glue them amazingly, but sewing them and getting them to stay has been rough. Still not quite right. I'll be learning what ways I can try attempt proper ones to make my perfect wig for my characters since almost no one makes what I need. I'll probably end up with fifty of the same colors . It's fun though. Learning different things has been pretty cool.
My room box has a bit of progress- mostly painting Login • Instagram I decided the horizontal beam was just too skinny so I bought more wood to glue on top to make it protrude more, and I cut some wood strips to be baseboards and molding for when the painting of the walls/rocks are done. There are a few places where I didnt do well matching up the wall pieces, so I plan to have some mold or greenery growing out of those. Trying to decide where I'm envisioning the light coming from- some sort of light fixture....
Honestly, that's one of the main things that got me into this hobby in the first place - like, sure I could just learn stuff like bookmaking and binding for funsies, but it's more expensive on person scale, and really how many handmade books could I possible use for me? But for dolls? I can make a library's worth of books and they all fit in a shoebox, which is very handy since we live in a not-large apartment. On the topic of the perfect wig, have you tried making ventilated wigs yet? The can take ages to finish, but once they're done you can style and restyle them any which way you want
I started sewing.. with a machine and everything!!! It’s so confusing. I wish i had a seamstress grandma to help me. I improvise on so many things i feel like my female ancestors are looking down on me in shame. “Stupid girl can’t even do a proper inseam.. tsk!” I spent an hour on a pair of pants for my boy and was so proud. Only to sit him down and his ass pops completely out the back. Cheeked up like nobodys business. Insanity!!!!!
I'm working on wings for my newest costume, a sorceress or fairy queen. The wires will insert into pockets on the back of the gown. The wing on the right is done, while the one on the left still needs the beading, and final paint and glitter.
I really like your color scheme, it will blend seamlessly with the gown and the beading is just the right sparkly touch with the glitter of course! Did you burn the edges?
The secret to making butt-stays-in-while-sitting pants is in the back yoke. If you look at a pair of person jeans you'll notice that when you lay them flat the back is higher than the front but when you're wearing them the waistband seems more or less the same height all around - that's because of the back yoke, which basically just makes extra room for your butt. Because people squish to fit the shape of their clothes - and BJD absolutely don't - you'll have to exaggerate the back yoke a bit if you want your boy to still look presentable to polite society while sitting down (my dolls' pants don't lay flat, there's a bit of a butt-tent in the back when they're not being worn) Longer shirts also help
No, I cut the edges. The basic wings are made of a salt dye cotton batik, and I don't think that burns well, so I cut it to look like I did.
@endogeny If I were your sewing ancestor, I'd be THRILLED that you're sewing anything! I'm worried fewer and fewer people even attempt sewing! Try YouTube for machine sewing tutorials. They might even have videos for your machine brand! @Girrl has great advice above about the back waistband being higher than the front. Also, the crotch curve is much deeper than the front crotch curve. I really had to work on this for my Lusion's pants. Knit pants are more forgiving than woven pants. You could make the whole crotch longer for sitting-down pants. I've even considered making 2 tubes for pants legs and covering the leftover nakedness with a tunic! ...ok, I was really frustrated at the time... Best of Luck!
My roombox adventure continues! Fayeth by Skyealloway, on Flickr This is the corner piece, pretty much ready for set dressing at this point. I'm thinking maybe some wall hangings, or perhaps a weapon display like a hanging sword....or maybe I should take inspiration from Skyrim home decorations. Or maybe just shelfs to shove full of neat knicknacks. BUT! Instead of doing any of that, I moved onto making the next modular section of wall - the fireplace. Still under construction at this time!
I paused work on my medieval fantasy room box thing and rescued an Our Generation posable morgan horse from my local thrift store. She was in bad shape, her paint was badly chipped and some of it was discolored to a yellow color. Even new, the red colorations on the horse didn't make a lot of sense. I researched Morgan Horse colors and determined she was most like a Buckskin coloration. I've had an airbrush for a while but I almost never use it. But I decided it was time! Custom Our Generation Horse by Skyealloway, on Flickr (lol I realize horse should not be in the tavern, but its the backdrop I had handy) I admit, I went a little overboard, there is very little of the original horse color left. (my horse before I painted it here: Login • Instagram) I'm very on the fence about doing anything with the mane. It washed nicely, and caught a lot of overspray from the airbrush and sealant which seems to have reduced some of the plastic shine. My next steps in this project is rehabilitating her saddle (which not only was dirty and misshapen, but somehow had leached off some of the original horse color) and make her other horse tack. I want her to be an adventurers horse, so I'm doing research on what all would be included on her saddle like perhaps a bedroll. I admit I knew nothing of horses when I started this project so this has turned into a time consuming adventure!
Wow that My Generation horse rehabilitation is looking really good! (And the tavern, too!) I've been getting, at last, into crafting eyes. I realized that somehow, in my collection of small (6mm and 8mm) eyes, I had no green ones that had an iris size I liked for my newest girl. I bought epoxy resin for another project, and well... It seemed like the time to finally dip my toes into this water! I'm not 100% satisfied with these, but considering they were really quick-and-dirty casts just to experiment with I think they turned out rather nicely! The masters for the bases were 3D printed by Synthetic Ephemera. Next time I think I'll do a little more polish on the bases, but as a proof of concept/practice this worked perfectly.
Loads of bags, tote bag and hobo bags first. In case anyone is interested in a doll sized bag pattern: Bag this! Part one
@ResinRapture I had no idea you had such an extensive sewing tutorial blog! What a great resource, thanks for sharing!
@skyealloway Thank you. I am not surprised people don't know, I am not very good at promoting the stuff.
I received my belt buckles and 4mm rivets so I'm making belts for my mature tiny Granado guys. Using the same leather scraps that I made the bracers from. new belt by SteamWitch, on Flickr
I Just got done making a frame drum and beater, for my boy Finn. Considering it was just an experiment, I'm really pleased with the results. The best bit, is it actually works as a drum, which is fun to play with. BJD drum and beater by Heidi, on Flickr BJD drum and beater by Heidi, on Flickr
I've had a pair of Soom Arkose wings for around five years now, but no Arkose torso to attach it to. (On the default body, the wings were attached via "hooks" that dig into the doll's torso.) I finally managed to make some rudimentary adapter mechanism so almost any 1/3+ scale doll can use the wings, halter-style. Ain't perfect, but works well enough to make a photoshoot of! I’m working on nothing as amazing as the projects on this thread. I did just buy a MSD Sakura here on DOA and need to paint her face. Otherwise, I’ve been completing unfinished projects and on a whim, sewing a few, and add sorting my clutter to that!
Wow @AntarelNefertili that is a great setup. Looks fantastic on him. I finally finished the patio and patio bar called the Pit Stop for my tribe of mature tiny guys. The bar needs a thin base to keep it stable so leaning dolls don't knock it over. Patio and Pit Stop by SteamWitch, on Flickr
My husband made a throne, and I made coronation robe, crown, orb and sceptre -https://www.antiquelilac.com/blog/making-a-throne
I just made a wash stand, one of many things I am working on since I started a 1/6 "dollhouse". It's more a pile of dioramas.
Today I made my very first bjd wig what makes me extremely proud)) My mom knit a lot and this is the reason for having a big amount of not used yarn and today I tried to use them for my Lillycat Ellana. I still don't understand how to attach photos, but hope I'll do it soon. Also some days ago I sew blouse and stockings. I want to make some cottage core/faerie outfits for her
Are you looking for a Easter holiday project? How about a 1:6 scale doll armchair? Just finished Free template
she's looking great! As for the saddle, western saddles and some Australian/endurance saddles have 'D' rings or leather ties strategically placed on them. usually at the back, and some spots at the front and back side. these are used for tying saddlebags and bedrolls to the saddle Another common one that's used a lot for a water bottle/phone is one that has sort of like a cutout hole that slips over the horn. Emma Massingale on youtube is a phenomenal horse person, and she has a really good video on what she brings when she goes backpacking/camping with her ponies. if you're curious as to what some basic gear might look like. (yours seems to be more fantasy-based, but I think a lot of these could translate well ) also her camping pony adventures are just adorable. the video is called "equestrian adventure ready-my summer kit list". I'd link it but I'm not sure if that's allowed. (still pretty new to DoA :P)
Huh. You know, a needle-felted shorthaired wig would totally work. You'd just have to make the right base to work it on. Carve some high density foam into the exact shape of your doll's head. I need to try that.
