What’s the weirdest accessory you’ve looked for?!

Jan 8, 2018

    1. It's for an off topic non bjd doll but I have made a matching sky blue pj set of sweater, nightcap and pants that have pictures of different sushi on it. It actually looks kinda cute.

    2. I'm looking for a pet that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg.. I rreeeeaaallly want a fantasy type of creature as a familiar for my RS Song but it's hard to find sources unless I'm looking on etsy and then I need to find owner pics.

    3. It is hard to find a realistic articulated horse for my MSD gunslinger. So there is one option..... here we go again....

    4. A 1/3 scale rifle and adult toys <_<

Sounds very weird when you put them together like that...

    5. Omg I saw those! I also just saw an adult plug a few minutes ago. I'm not even sure what the use is.

    6. lol I guess so

    7. I've been looking for an MSD sized melodica (an instrument that is a cross between a harmonica and piano) for a few months for one of my girls. I don't think I'll find one, so I'll probably have to get a YoSD keyboard or synthesizer and do some mods on it.

    8. Been trying to find a pair of Gauntlets for a character I have in mind, or at the very least some usable gloves. Hard to find for a MiniFee though, at least for me :/ I can tell I'm probably gonna have make multiples to deal with the hands.

    9. Do you have any concept art, or inspiration? I really like the first thing my imagination came up with; I'm wondering if we're on the same page?

    10. I was thinking of something like this:

    11. I wonder if you could make wings like that using something like Shrinky Dinks?

      • x 1
    12. Large, about a meter tall, green transparent crystals. Couldn't find neither glass nor plastic ones, so now I'm looking for someone who'd make them of silicone or something like that.

    13. A small yellow duck (although I don't know how strange it is, but I have a small doll and finding a duck of this size was a big problem for me)

    14. One of my characters requires shots to keep an illness in check. I thought it might be a cute little detail if he had some hypodermic needles in his rucksack, so I embarked on a search for an MSD-sized hypodermic needle. I found one, but it was out of my price range at the time...and now that I can afford one I can't find the shop that sold them!!!

    15. Mini Dollfie Dream Cirno has wings that are really similar to that! A bit simplified, but really close.
She was limited edition, but I know that people on the DD forums have tracked her and/or her wings down. Probably not cheap, but easier than a DIY project, and Volks is pretty high-quality.

Accessory-wise, I'm not really looking for anything right now, but I really wish someone would make lolita-style purses! (And that that someone is cheaper than the BTSSB fullsets lol) I don't feel up to sewing tiny tiny layers of pleather and cardboard and lining and zippers quite yet >.<

    16. I'd love to find a doll sized set of lab glassware. I know I can order some 5ml flasks and all from actual scientific shops but they're so darn expensive, and sometimes you have to order a dozen or more. I just want a cool little chemistry lab!

    17. A black patent leather bat-shaped bralette for a 60 cm doll :mwahaha

      • x 2
    18. I've searched for tiny music box mechanisms to make a doll-sized jack-in-the-box. The way they work is really simple.

      • x 3
    19. 1/3 scale medical equiptment and clothing (scrubs) for a doll whose a doctor character. I wound up making the scrubs.

    20. I love searching for weird props. Sometimes buying them can be the fun part.

Me dropping 20 tiny alcohol bottles on the counter of a liqueur store:

Clerk: Sample size is great, you get to try all the flavors.
Me: Oh, they are not for me, they are for my dolls.
      Clerk: Um...
Me: For photography, I want to take pictures of a doll party.
Clerk: Uh, okay... That sounds kind of funny actually.

    21. Lately its been a camper and camping equipment for my dolls to go camping.

      • x 5
    22. I have a bunch of those as well! I should do the photoshoot I've been wanting to do.

A 60cm size TARDIS, a 70cm size motorcycle, a 70cm size axe, some 60cm sized horses and equipment for them, and that's just the start.

    23. I have been hunting on and off for years now for 1/3 scale household cleaning supplies. I'm talking mop, broom (modern, not those cute witchy ones), spray bottles, feather duster, etc. I need them for my 70cm boy who helps clean the house. xD Anyway, so far as I can tell, these things do not exist outside of children's toys, which are the wrong scale and don't look realistic enough, or in smaller dollhouse scale which is also unusable for my large boy. And sadly, I am not a crafty person so making them isn't an option for me. The hunt continues!

    24. Haven’t begun searching for them yet but I may need realistic looking 1/4 scale rat skulls for a headpiece I will be attempting to make. Probably need some other skeletal bits too, human-ish……especially spinal column. :abambi:

    25. I've seen a 1/3 sized mop and pail before on taobao. Unfortunately I won't have the link anymore, but it does exist for BJDs!

    26. Weirdest prop so far is Highly Specific more than weird. A British WWI Mark III Enfield Rifle and Bayonet in 1/3 scale. Having that 3d printed.
Oh and I need to make a WWI Private rank BEF Uniform, with regimental badges and all. (Glossters, if you're curious)
And a lil battered pack of 1/3 scale French cigarettes and a bottle of gin.

      • x 3
    27. Bees. I want 1/3 scale bees for my spring-themed boy. Mostly all you find is those ones for floral arrangements, and they're not in scale. The only tiny ones I can find are very unrealistic. I may end up making my own.

      • x 4
    28. Weirdest thing probably was realistic 70cm scale lock picks for my master thief. They don't exist, but I got a trained toolmaker to hand-make a set for me and I made the leather wrap/ sheath to carry them in.
So, if we ever come across any locked 70cm scale doors or safes, we're totally prepared for anything :aninja::cool::wiggle

    29. My wildest accessory story is the hoverboard... I didn't go looking for it as a doll prop. I told myself 'this is not a doll prop, this is 1/5 scale, so it's definitely not a doll prop, it's just a neat little tiny thing to put on your shelf and look at'.

... Yeah, then I found a 1/5 boy and obviously I had to buy him, for the accessory I already had and thought wouldn't go with any of my dolls.

All my other props and accessories feel normal next to that.

    30. An annular brooch (specific medieval style) for a doll that's meant to replicate my favorite childhood Barbie. I'm still looking, actually- thinking I may dismantle a cheap brooch frame from Michael's and attach the pin to an appropriate-looking septum ring :XD:

      • x 3
    31. A 1/3 scale watering can. Didn't have to be a replica from the anime, but had to be nice quality and metal.

In Rozen Maiden, Suiseiseki's magical powers involve a watering can and I've always wanted to get something like this for my Suiseiseki. The one I found (finally!) recently is not a replica, but it's copper and well made -- it was found at an antique store. I think it may have originally been a holiday tree ornament because of the old ribbon attached to the handle. The size of it is perfect for her. :love

    32. I have a list of accessories from the unusual to the mundane that I'm always looking for: a Japanese tea set (European style tea sets are plentiful), a monk's tengai hat (I have seen one IG that I'm guessing the owner made/commissioned), a half-face respirator for 1/3 (not a WWII gas mask or cyber rave type), sculptor's chisels...

The hard part about looking for doll-scale accessories is when a BJD company/dealer has one, it's hard to justify the postage cost for something that'll fit in my palm...Luts did have a respirator a few months back but the conversion from AUD to USD was steep.
Hopefully I'll find some interesting things when I visit Japan this year!

    33. It's not really a weird prop, and I think even if I find one I will end up not buying to avoid a bulky thing in storage, but 1/4 drum kit to would be a cool addition to my doll band. I'd also love to upgrade the bass I have to true 1/4 scale, and get a 1/4 mic stand if drums are off the table. There are plenty of instrument scale models and miniature instruments, but they are often slightly too small or big for the dolls I want them for - maybe it's time to get crafty....

    34. I'm currently looking for scale money. I guess that's not too unusual but coin sellers might find it an odd use for their wares.

I have now identified perfectly sized 1:3 scale coins. They're quite expensive but do hold their value. I'm going to hit London's jewelry quarter at the weekend in search of them.

Still to find: doll sized tarot cards.

    35. Not looking right now, actually have it. I use to skim my usual websites for “mini”, “small”, “miniature”, “tiny” and see what pops up. That way l got a doll size Hitachi wand. Don’t know if it works but it looks right. And recently a friend asked “what do you have to search for to come up with that?” Ops.

Just saw dragon skeleton decoration for aquariums, 40 cm total from nose to tip of the tail, some part of the spinal column might be useful for your project.

    36. Ooh thank you. I’ll be needing to pop into my local Aquatic store soon for some bits and pieces anyway so I shall have a look at the decor again. You do get some cool skulls sometimes!

    37. Oh sometimes searching "Keychain (item)" works for finding small props sometimes.

    38. There are mini Rider-Waite Tarot decks available on Amazon. It's not that expensive either, under $15.

    39. I've been having a hard time finding 1/4 sized weapons. Aside from 3D printing something myself, most props like guns and swords seem reserved for 1/3. Nothing more disappointing looking at a new outfit release and the "weapon not included" is tacked on at the end.

    40. Even the 1/3 weapons you can find tend to be awfully expensive. It's why I bought a sword letter opener for my 1/3 boy.

    41. I think there’s more 1/4 swords (souvenirs, letter openers, hair pins, etc) than 1/3. Those mostly are 20 cm, and found a couple 30 cm ones. A real sword is about 120 cm including the handle, the same as miniatures are measured, so 120:3=40 but 120:4=30, the 20 cm ones are a bit too short for 1/4. 80 cm sword (or 80:4=20) is visibly short for a human but they do exist. 20 cm sword for 1/3 doll would be a long dagger. There are also swords longer than 120, the double handed medieval. My husband did train swordfights when he was young, l have a consultant at hand. Any questions, l can forward them to him.

    42. Letter openers are a smart choice! I'll have to look into that next time I go hunting for accessories.

    43. Here's where I got mine. The basic sword-and-scabbard ones are about US$20 plus shipping.

    44. Thank you so much! This is exactly what I've been looking for.

    45. Having a YOSD child doll is hell on my wallet, she has so many toys thanks to the Worlds Smallest brand (and others). But my favorite is the working Gator Chomp, where you push down the teeth until his jaws snap shut on your finger. It's so, so cute. On the other side, I got tiny glass bottles with fake blood and teeth for my adult serial killer. Both ends of the spectrum lol.

      • x 4
    46. I got a large star shaped hat. Very cute but not easy to find outfits lol. :whee:

    47. A 1/3 scale pickaxe, for a doll who's an archeologist. I found one, too!

      • x 3
    48. Red suspenders. That was about 15 years ago. I believe there was a doll and full set that included some, but I wasn't willing to go that far.

      • x 2
    49. A teeny tiny blindfold. My 3D printed bunny BJD used to not have eyes so I needed something to cover the empty sockets until I found a pair of eyes for him. I looked everywhere for a small blindfold before realizing I could just make it out of a fabric scrap. XD
