Lost/Damaged WARNING- B&G Doll has changed to environmental resin without notification!

Apr 7, 2011

    1. Man, this sucks! I own an Afra and a Ymir, and I wanted to get an Aurora, but I hate Env-resin! I don't like the look or the feel of it.

And, shame on B&G for not announcing the change in the resin. I know I'd be very upset if I had ordered another doll from them, thinking I was going to get urathane, and Env-resin showed up.

I hope B&G steps-up-to-the-plate and resolves these issues to their customer's satisfaction. (Having a reputation for bad customer service is not a good thing for a business. Word of that will get around this forum very quickly.)

    2. Still no real word from them. I sent a further email stating I was very upset, got an email back very quickly but didn't make a lot of sense, so I'm still waiting to hear from them.

    3. STILL NO WORD FROM B&G!
They've just stopped responding. I've emailed them again, warning them that if I do not get a resolution by the end of this week I will be leaving negative feed back : /

    4. It's really disappointing to hear that people are having issues with B&G, I hope things work out for everyone.

I ordered two dolls from B&G through DDE in February this year, an Elf Afra in White skin and a Grenville in Normal Pink. They arrived in April, both in urethane resin.

It would seem the tests B&G referred to on white and pink skin in environmental resin were still going on fairly recently. If anyone's after white or pink in urethane it may still be worth your while to think about ordering, but an email beforehand would probably be a good idea.

(And a side note, the Grenville I ordered belongs to Shashan now, in case anyone was looking for pictures of his resin.)

    5. Just a smidge of tech-speak regarding the opacity of resin. It is possible to start with a clear resin and use white and flesh tints to increase the opacity. Kaye Wiggs has in the past cast some of her OOAK dolls using a clear resin to begin with - I also have cast a doll starting with a clear resin - the purpose is to give the translucent depth of French Resin not available using white-base urethanes but without the yellowing issues akin to french resin. It is easier to control the UV retardation with a clear based resin than with a French Resin as you can easily add UV stabilisers like zinc powder and liquid additives that will not afect its curing or resulting colours.

    6. However, if the light going through the resin is what is causing it to yellow more quickly, wouldn't this still be true for this mix, even with the added UV? Or is that unknown still at this point? And how differently does this mix look from environmental resin?

    7. B&G have told me if I ship my body to them they will send an old body back to me.
Firstly, I am not prepared to pay further shipping and possible customs charges. Secondly, it has taken them so long to reach this I find it rather pointless by now.

    8. Oh dear T__T I just brought a tan Freya for my sister a couple weeks back, now i see these posts , voicing many problems and issues.. LOL is the Enviro resin really so bad? and do they take forever to make/deliver ???? ;^;
Next bjd i get, i will be checking DOA for other owners that know the company's good/bad points xD geez first ringdoll, now THIS!! XDDD

    9. Environmental resin isn't bad, per-say; I have a doll made from it and it looks very nice. It doesn't take particularly long to make or anything, its just that it has a translucent quality, which will make it look different in color then the pictures show (since the pictures show normal resin for B&G tan and yellow dolls) and people have varying degrees of like or dislike for the translucency. Some dolls in ER look odd to me, but I've had 2 that looked very lovely also. Its simply that they made the change without telling anyone and people are not getting what they thought they paid for, which causes major problems when matching or hybridizing. They're not giving a bad product exactly, just piss-poor customer service and incorrect product discription :(

    10. I love my EV Resin doll, I think shes beautiful. It's personal preference to which resin you think is nicer. I don't think one is per-say better than the other ( unless you want to be able to hybrid easier ).

They should be telling people about this. This is horrible customer service. I hope they do something to fix this situation for those in ill effect. I can't believe they didn't post any information or news on this on their website!! That is completely unacceptable. I'm sorry to all those disappointed by this situation :(

    11. I just talked to a friend in China. She told me it is still possible to order BG dolls in "Japanese Resin" (the old one).
But you need to let B&G know you want Japanese resin when you order.
Otherwise, they will send you default "French Resin" doll.

I hope this is helpful for someone. ;)

    12. How disappointing. I fell In love with Sky and the Boy-Freya. Freya was the next doll I wanted to buy. I love his appearance so much. In fact I even wanted him in tan but was worried he would be too dark. After you stated someone got a tan doll far to dark, just as my concern was, it makes me weary. If that was the case, I could have just got him in normal pink. After reading this my heart is broken because I have no interest in bad Rasin, or in a company that lies; especially being a new collector, I don't just want to settle. I'm glad I didnt have to learn this the hard way. However I loved Freya-boy and knowing this I cannot buy him. I'll be taking them off my list with a heavy heart.

    13. ---Had quoted the notice on B&G, it was already here, ops!---

    14. Just saw this thread! I won't be order from them either now. Thanks for the heads up!

    15. Hmmm...I actually really LIKE the french/canadian/environmental resin. I have two Ringdoll boys, a BlueBlood Doll and an IMPL/Island doll hybrid, I think they are great!

But...I also knew what I was buying when I got my boys. I would be really upset as well if I was buying what was supposed to be urethane resin for hybridding and environmental showed up. I think its really important for companies to state upfront what type of resin is used, whetherits been changed or not! Even if it is old news, someone not familiar with the regular resin type might use that to help decide either to buy or not buy. Seems a lot of people are choosing not to buy because it is the ev-resin, but for some people, they may be MORE likely to buy because of it. Like when I needed a body for my Island Doll head, NOT being that resin type was a deal breaker to me.

    16. I ordered a B&G Siannodel very recently, after deciding what she would be made of was irrelevant to me.

I selected a normal-pink skintone and I'll update everyone here with what I get.

    17. Oh jeeze, I was just innocently looking to see if the color change in the resin was big and I unearthed this mess. I'm glad I did my research, but it's upsetting because I really wanted another B&G for my next Yeon-ho hybrid. I didn't order directly from the company the first time so I have no idea how B&G fairs in customer service, but I'm not a fan of anything other than opaque resin and I can only imagine how furious I would be if I had ordered a B&G body. That's just a real shame...

    18. Thank you Lucyhayashi! This is great news since I am not a big fan of French Resin.

But, the delay in their efforts to resolve customer problems still gives me pause. I'll have to seriously think about my desire to purchase an Aurora from them.

    19. Lol sloooooow reply sorry - I've been away :)

As far as I am aware Kayes original handcasts havent yellowed but her recipe is a secret only she knows... I cast my first tinies in French Axon Resin the same brand as Bambicrony's original coloured elves back in 2007 and all the WS dolls are now banana yellow. But my marbled tinies and last 5 handcast tinies cast in Clear with added opaque pigments and a liquid UV retarder are still almost true to original colour - I dont have an ER to compare but based on the pictures the ER looks waxier than French Resin and depending on the concentration of pigments can be more or less translucent than Clear/Pigmented Resin...

If I can track down the TDS on the retarder I used years ago I'll post a link :)

    20. I just got my Siannodel, which I ordered in normal pink skin. And she's urethane, not ev-resin, for anyone who wants peace of mind.

    21. Just a heads-up - Denver Dolls seems to have stopped dealing with B&G Dolls, as the only items they are selling from them now are what's left in stock.

I guess they got upset with them too.

    22. Since I've got several B&Gs with another two planned, I took a resin comparison photo for everyone.

The Normal Pink skintone is regular Urethane resin, and not environmental/french resin.
