Volks USA Autumn 2009 Event Rush

Sep 19, 2009

    1. Thanks for the info rosaleendhu! It's much appreciated :D.

    2. I'd feel a little weird about Volks displaying my doll and potentially exposing him to harm since I've been charged for him already. :sweat But....I wouldn't want to deny other people the chance to see him if they really wanted to, either.

Wish I could go to event. I wonder if Volks did display them, if they'd let the one off winners take them home after the event instead of waiting for shipping.

    3. I understand Riversblood - I would feel the same unless they are in a glass case though setting them up and all that.....

I guess its a good time to just trust all will be well and let go.

    4. Volks asked the winners for permission last year if they would allow the dolls to be displayed in the store for a weekend, so I bet they'd ask us too if this came to pass.

    5. Well, Volks USA will not display your One Off without your permission. They will contact you first. Last year they did since all the owners agreed to it.

Thus rest assure they will not do so without getting your consent and you do not have to agree to it.

Also they do take extra care always when the staff handles the doll, so if you do decide to agree to it, Tsukasa will be in good hands.

    6. Most people who go to Volks USA are very respectful and know not to touch the displays or each others dolls. Last year they were displayed in the left corner by the cash register were you could go up to them and admire them but were not allowed to touch them or photograph them.

    7. Thanks. :) I'm glad to hear that they ask first! I am sure Volksusa would be good to him, so I think I would say yes if they asked me, then.

    8. Well, most of the One Offs are displayed at events before they are won, so displaying is a normal thing. Plus, I think if something did happen to a doll, Volks would find a way to make it right, Volks customer service has always been top in my book (I have had a limited arrive with a problem before and they fixed it super fast no charge, so I am positive they fix anything/replace it before the doll was sent to you). I wouldn't worry too much ^_^ I am sure everything will work out great! <3

    9. Hooray! I got mine a couple of days ago and I'm so happy to know the outfits will be shipping to us much sooner than I originally expected!:)

    10. UPS called and told me my dress should be arriving today, and requires a signature, so here I wait...

When it gets here, I'll probably swap boy!Madoka's head onto girl!Madoka's body, because the girl doesn't have a faceup. ;_; And then try it on and take lots of pictures, wheeee! :D

Everyone else should take pics of their stuff too!

    11. I received that call too! I am really excited to get my dress today and hopefully I can take pics too ^_^

    12. I picked up my dress from Volks USA on Saturday and took pictures in the Photo Space:

In this picture you can see the hat has a little bunny holding a sweet! :aheartbea :

I love tukika! The work and detail down to the cute little hat is amazing.

    13. I waited for UPS. they just did not think of ringing the door bell. and the attempted delivery slip didn't even list a day for the next attempt. I will have to tape my own note to the door to "ring the doorbell". grrrr Barb

    14. UPS is famous for that kind of thing. UGH! I hope they listen to your note tomorrow.

    15. How darling Izayoi! She has such an adorable outfit on;) I thought I'd share a pic I just took of Kurumi (May) wearing the new outfit I won just for her...it is really well made; I like the heft and quality of the material and the sleeves are so much fun:

    16. Roweena23: I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous. May looks gorgeous in that dress. :D

Izayoi: So so so cute! I'm really happy with tukika's work too.

Lisianthus: I hate it when UPS doesn't knock... if you have a UPS place near your house, you could maybe go pick it up? That's what I do when they don't knock. :/

Here's one of my set on, er, one of my Madoka/Shizu's (they need to decide who gets what body and pick names before I throw them both in the trash.)

      Aaand more! : http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=334662

    17. Roweena23-That outfit is amazing. It just looks perfect on Kurumi

    18. Thanks gloombox, your girl is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S and I love the print on her outfit:0

Tsukidoll thankyou:) I knew as soon as I saw that outfit that it would look just great on her. Of course, I also really liked the lolita outfit with the teddy bear but we can't win em' all lol! I'm just so happy I lucked out with this one as it really was my most favorite outfit. Also, I was saving those shoes for THE perfect outfit and here it is! It's nice that there is wire in the bunny ears so they are nice and poseable.

    19. Oh everyone's outfits are so lovely!! <3

I got my dress today and it is so wonderful, a lovely rich purple with lovely silk lining...even better than the pictures! I hope to get a few shots of my Megu wearing it soon so I can show everyone ^_^

    20. These outfits are so lovely! It's so nice to see the pictures people are sharing. ♥

    21. I got my outfits the other day, but the doll one of them is intended for isn't going to arrive for months...he's not even paid off yet! So unfortunately, no pics, but they look lovely in the bag!

    22. NabeeRain, I would love to see that outfit you won on your Megu!! Megu is definitely up there in the beauty department and one of my absolute faves!

    23. Did anyone find out if you can bring a guest with you? to the workshop

    24. I don't think so, unless you paid for their entry ticket too. I know with the reception that I had to pay for my guest's ticket.

    25. I hope this is the place to post this, but with the traveling workshop, do you have to paint the faces while at the class or can you just observe? Just wondering, as I get shaky hands when I'm nervous. ^_^;

    26. From my experience, we will be painting the head in class [and observing as well] You can either bring your old head with you and paint that head as well.

      >^< I'm so excited!

    27. Good luck, you guys! I know my hands shake way too much to be able to complete a faceup when nervous. ;v;

    28. The workshop is only a few days away! YAY!

I checked with the lovely ladies at the Volks store, and they said that there will be some snacks at the event, but they won't be serving lunch. I thought I would give people a heads up so they can plan to eat a late breakfast. :) There's no break between the workshop and the reception so people can't get food then.

    29. mrsmarks, I know how you feel because I get very nervous and my face-up is so bad that it is totally embarrassing!:( I am going to feel humiliated but I am going to just jump in and do it! No one is looking so so what if it looks really bad? Mikey is very sweet so I am sure no one will force you to do anything!:)

    30. It's good to have a head to work on so you can learn the techniques of holding a brush steady. They will teach you some other tricks and great techniques...for painting, cleaning and enhancing dolls face-up.

But if you don't bring head/have ordered School head //bring some paper to practise brush stokes on, pastels etc.

It's good to learn how to clean up painting mistakes and anchoring your thumb and pinky to hold brush steady. The artist will go around the table watching and giving some individual attention after each demonstration depending on how many people are there.

    31. Thank you for the advice Dr.Seiji, carolineLA and ginarolo! I look forward to learning with everyone!

    32. So the event is tomorrow already. I still don't see anything on the tracking part of my order for my One-Off and Volks hasn't asked me if they could display him. I wonder if they haven't gotten the One-Offs in at all?

    33. It wouldn't surprise me. I had the impression that they weren't on the same shipment as all the stuff for this weekend's events.

    34. So since no one said anything yet...

The NY Dolpa was announced at the workshop reception. It'll be June 19-20, and we all got posters. I'm sure someone with a scanner will post the image soon. It'll also be the 5th anniversary of the LA store next year, so they really want to make it a big deal. :aheartbea

    35. Yay!!! :chibi Thank you for the great news, roseleendhu!!! :D I knew Volks wouldn't give up on NY!! :love I can't wait to see the posters!! :dance

    36. Oh wow, that's quite an advance notice! :o Thanks for letting us know! I was so disappointed there wasn't a NY Dolpa this year (even though I took vacation and went up there anyways :sweat) and am really looking forward to attending another Volks event. :D

    37. I think they should move the doll party around. Pick a new city each year. I would still love to see a Chicago doll party. Dallas would be a good meeting point, too, or even Atlanta.

Actually, Las Vegas is a good city for cheap airfare and easy-to-find accommodations.

    38. Pat and FDQ put together the NY Dolpa for Volks and Pat works for FIT so thats why there is a NY Dolpa every year.

    39. Coming back home from a very long day, and I'm glad to say that it was a very good day today! The faceup class was small, intimate, and very informative. There were five tables with eight seats each, which totaled to about 40 attendees. It started off as a very formal and official Volks event, but ended almost like a local meetup.... but with Mikey, Mr. Ota and the many Volks employees! It was this amazing combination of lowkey and impressive, especially since Volks surprised us with a lottery for zoukeimura eyes, clothing sets, towels, books, and SEI-TENSHI and REI-TENSHI!

Two lucky people won a Sei-Tenshi each and one very lucky woman won a Rei-Tenshi! I didn't win anything, but I was very excited and happy to see a local friend win the Rei-Tenshi, especially since she is a devoted and enthusiastic Super Dollfie owner who hasn't won anything before. It was very exciting! As a parting gift, Volks gave each of us an exclusive early copy of Volks News 36. And we ended the event gawking at the glossy pages of new dolls and items as well as taking group photos and doll photos in the photo space.

I'm pretty grateful for the VolksUSA employees in successfully planning this event! All of their hard work showed with how easily and perfectly everything fell in place. And I'm looking forward to the upcoming NYDP and VolksUSA Year Five!

    40. I'm so glad that Volks will be back in the city! I can't wait!

    41. So happy to hear that you guys had a wonderful time!! VOLKS staff make excellent a habit - they're truly amazing in every important way I can think of.

Also, thanks very, very much for news of Dolpa NYC 2010! Woohoo!!!!! It's going to be wonderful to gather with the terrific group of folks who create and attend that event!

      ~Bruce

    42. Awesome!!! I am dying to see this poster!

    43. Let the saving begin! I'm looking forward to the next Dolpa in NYC! What's happening at the Autumn event? No pictures or info. yet? Woohoo - Dolpa in NY!

    44. Yaaay, I might be able to make the NYC Dolpa! :D

      Also... I hope they ship my Michele soon. I feel like I won him ages ago. ;_;

    45. You mean Pat ^_^;;;

    46. I wish I had gone to this event, when they first annouced it I thought it was just classes, and I've already taken the classes. If I had known there would be a reception and lottery I would have gone. Sounds like it ended up being more of a mini-Dolpa.

Should we start a seperate thread about the NYC Dolpa? Its so far off I'm not sure..

    47. yes, I think you should start a thread about the NYC dolpa. I'm so happy about this, and savings starts now. maybe someone will scan and add the poster from the Autumn event about NY.

    48. Aw man, that's so exciting that there's gonna be a NYC dolpa in 2010!
Unfortunately I probably won't be able to go because when the dolpa got cancelled last year Air Canada wouldn't refund my money and would only let me rebook my tickets for a date within a year of the day I BOUGHT my tickets instead of the date my flight was booked for :(

Anyways, I hope everyone who gets to go has a blast!!

    49. I'm glad you all had a great time! Thank you for letting us know about DolpaNYC so early. Time to start saving. :)

    50. CorpseBlossum and I are going to be all over that NYC Dolpa :D :D :D :D
      ~Pandora~

    51. lol, thats called lack of sleep :sweat

    52. I can't believe this weekend ended already. It was soooo much fun and such a great experience >_<!!!!
I have tons of photo with me. Can't wait to go back home and upload them!(still at LAX)

    53. I'm so glad you all had such a great time!!! :chibi I knew Volks wouldn't give up on us!! :aheartbea Extra congratulations to those who won adorable Rei and Sei Tenshis!!! :D

    54. I had fun too, I hope to go to the next one as well. :)

    55. I had a great time! I learned so much from Mikey in the face-up class!:)

Mikey said Volks has something special planned for NY Dolpa 2010 because it is the 5th year anniversary of the VOLKSUSA store.:smallcake

    56. Hmmm.. I wonder what it could be. Did she mention anything about any more Dolpas in LA?

    57. *Finger crossed for SD17 Sunlight skin boy*

    58. fireflytrance, Mikey did not say anything about another Dolpa in Los Angeles.:( However, the workshop and reception were like a mini Dolpa.
