Volks USA Autumn 2009 Event Rush

I think Volks will give us more info as the date gets closer. This looks like a preview.

Okies, now that that is done, did anyone else have to pick their jaw off the floor after seeing those outfits (and prices)?? I kinda expected the hefty price tag (pretty much used to it after seeing BTSSB and Yahoo!Japan stuff). I think that may be the only thing from keeping me form entering for everything lol. I am in love with so much stuff my head is spinning!

 

Lots of interesting items but nothing I need. My wallet is sighing in relief.

 

Those kimonos are just... wow. Might try for one of them... I also liked some of the boy outfits, but I'm still on the fence about trying for any of them or not. Some of the more expensive items did surprise me a little (but they are very lovely and I'm sure worth the price ^_^).

Also, has anyone heard about the class tickets yet? I thought we'd find out if we were in by today.

The prices actually don't seem that bad to me. Some of the Alice World ones are a bit pricey but a lot of of the others seem reasonable. The Alice World outfits that are pricey are lovely and it looks like they took a lot of time to create so its understandable.

I love the armor/civil servant outfits, too, so pretty!

Do you get a membership card even if you just buy an outfit from Volks USA? If you buy a doll from the international site, your number won't work for the USA things, right?

 

I entered, and I haven't heard yet, and I am just TWITCHING in anticipation.

Oh oh oh! I just heard and I'M IN!!!

Good lord, the outfits... I think I might cry if I don't win at least one of the kimono/yukata. I'll be entering for sure. ;_;

 

Yup, you get a membership card for anything you purchase from them! It's different from the international site so the card is only exclusive to Volks USA.

 

I totally agree about the prices, some are high but it is understandable. I want to know if it comes with the bunny too! I love that outfit so much. Oh my gosh I really must try to narrow down the ones I will enter for. At least a have a couple weeks to decide ^_^

 

The prices are not high. They are normal private dealer prices. And some they only make one of each item so it is a one-off (they are not mass produced in factory or anything so it will cost more to make and make sense to charge more) If you buy these off Y!J 2nd hand I bet you'd end up paying a lot more for them just to win.

 

Well, I think they are but understandably so. As I said in my first post, I know what these outfits go for on Yahoo!Japan and what designer outfits like BTSSB go for from volks as well so I was not surprised at all. They are totally worth it imo. However, $400 for any outfit anywhere is high to me regardless of whether it is for a doll or a person. That doesn't mean I won't spend that much, since as I said in my other post I plan on buying (or trying to) one if not several of the higher priced items. I think the higher prices reflect quality and uniqueness. ^_^

SQUEE! Takira and I both got into the class! I'm so excited. Getting that email makes it feel very real!

 

Congrats to those who made it into the class! I bet it is going to be an awesome time!! I cannot wait to see all the pretty new school heads on board.

PS. I wonder if anyone is looking for a hotel roomie? [like me ;-;] or is there any hotel that is really close to the store >_< it's my first time visiting the store by myself.

 

The store is actually in an industrial park near an oil refinery and I don't recall any hotels being really close to the store. But there are hotels in Torrance. But the event is going to be at a different location since the store is really small and gets hot if a lot of people are in the store. I'm going to Volks tomorrow. I'll scope out any hotels nearby for you though.

There's a Marriott Hotel by the Del Amo Mall, which is just a couple of miles away from the store. That's the closest hotel I can think of.

I'm just really excited about the whole thing!

 

I just looked at the map and there is a Courtyard Marriot 3 blocks west from Harbor UCLA Medical Center and a few blocks south of Volks USA. I really should pay more attention to places when I'm in Torrance, lol.

 

I searched on Google and there is a hotel called "Indigo Hotels&#8206;" only a corner away. I tried calling them, but no answer...I wonder if the hotel is gone already T_T'

I got my acceptance email earlier today too! Just got home later in the evening to find it and all of the amazing vendor items! Luckily, nothing catches my attention so I can save my money for a One Off .... or a new FCS doll.

Dr. Seiji: Congratulations on getting in too! I hope to see some of your wonderful boys in person, since I've loved seeing them on LJ. And I'm sure I won't be the only one eager to see some of your jewelry in person!

I think that "Indigo Hotels" could just be an office space for the company of that name, since VolksUSA is surrounded by industrial parks and the oil refinery across the street. I would recommend using Yelp.com. Search for "hotel" and use the VolksUSA address "386 Beech Avenue, Torrance, CA." Nearest hotel is Marriot about 1.5 miles away, right? I highly recommend renting a car or making carpool arrangements, since I don't believe that any hotels or any possible workshop location will be "walking distance" from the store. It's too early for me to make any plans, so I'll wait until news about the workshop location.

The store is definitely too small for any event. I'm going to Volks tomorrow too actually to pick up my package. Volks USA Sumika Fair 2009 on Nov. 15th? Sound as if they will just have new things available there for us to buy and they are just posting it for people to stop by to check them out. Also the one-off will still be on display there since they will not be delivered until the END Of November?

 

I'm such a Volks newbie, had to look up my membership number from something I ordered a long time ago. Now I'm all set. I really like everything about this Williams so might try my luck against the hundreds of others trying to nab him. He's totally lush along with Maki. And this by the way slays me. I love bunnies.

I know just how you feel Lazulistar...I too will be one of the hundreds entering for the stunning and beautifully handsome Williams but you never know unless you give it a whirl I adore his emerald Puredrop ensemble so much and his wig is just perfect for him. I always used to say, "one day that Williams is going to walk right through my front door!" Well, of course he won't literally be walking but I know someday, somehow he's just gotta grace me with his gorgeous presence lol!

I so wish I could make it down for the workshop but congrats to everyone who gets to go and good luck to everyone entering for these amazing one-offs!

 

I assumed I'd never own a sunlight volks back in 2005, how wonderful! Where can I go to read about FCS in the US? Does one have to visit the store in LA or can this be done online? Where can I see the current head options?

 

You may go to http://www.angelden.net/fcs/ for FCS info. To do a FCS, it has to be done in person or you can get someone who offer FCS services to order your doll for you. They have never done an online service mainly because it's a personal, intimate experience to create your dream doll.

 

I just received news about the Workshop. And it's been so long since we've had a USA event that this deserves a .... Squeeee!

I'm pleasantly surprised to learn that there will be a reception afterwards, so that guests can meet and speak with Mikey and Mr. Ota. This is the personal connection that comes with each special event. This actually feels a little more like the tea parties that Volks used to have, except the LE items and One Offs will be available online. Sadly, Mr. Shigeta most likely won't be in attendance, but he is still so intimidating for me. Mikey is much more casual and approachable, so I'm very happy with this event as it is!

 

Oh wow! I wish that they disclosed this earlier. It would have prompt me more to sign up. *cry*

 

Same here. It sounded like the workshop only so I wasn't so interested but I would have liked see the have my dolls see the Dolly Dr. and mingle at the reception.

 

I also would have been more likely to go if I knew there was a reception. I have done both the face-up and restringing class before but the reception makes it sound more like a Dolpa.

I've decided I'm going to make a weekend of it and get a room at the Doubletree. (It will save me driving in from Orange County both days.) Dr. Seiji, if you're still looking for a roommate, please PM me and we'll talk.

 

This is totally SQUEE worthy. If there ever was a time to Squee this is it. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend this event but I am constantly floored by the attention Volks lavishes on it's fans, especially it American fans. Mikey is an absolute doll (pun intended) and you SD will never be the same (in the best way possible) after the Dolly Doctor. I am super happy for everyone who gets to go. Everthing Volks does they make sure it is special!!!

Hmm... Is there anyone local who will be heading for the workshop and going past the 605/5 interchange on the way? I'm a big fan of carpooling, especially since parking costs could be high.

I checked the hotel website, and it says parking is complimentary. And I'm pretty sure I've actually been to that hotel, and if I'm remembering correctly, it is unrestricted parking. So that's not a cost you'd have to worry about.

I'm probably going to Volks next weekend, and I'll check out the hotel when I'm there.

I am excited that there will be a reception! It will be like a mini Dolpa. I am so pleased that Volks would do this for their fans. I did not think there would be another event in Los Angeles.

Does anyone know if you put the lottery entry on one card, could you change the card to use if by luck you actually win? I hate to put a $1,230 hold on my bank account for 5 days. You know?

 

Well, I put in too! I would probably, actually cry if I won Suiginto. The Shinku called to me two though... I think I am in love with her outfit and style more than her face. I need to see her in person to be sure... I KNOW I love Suiginto though. ALWAYS have....

 

Oh my gosh I entered! I will cry and fall apart if I actually win. Shinku is one of my dream girls. I know the chances are so slim and I am really trying not to get my hopes up because I don't wanna be to crushed when I lose. Even if I don't win I think it is so cool just to have the chance to enter ^_^

wickedstitchery I do not think you can change your cards (that is how I am reading the instructions). I used a credit card even though I have the funds because I didn't want my bank account to have a hold on it either.

 

Yeah, Volks has a note about not being able to change cards. I would also prefer to pay by debit card but from past experience debit card holds can take a long time to fall off so I used my credit card instead.

 

Does anyone know how long a debit card hold is for this? I can't seem to remember from last year, thanks!

 

I wanna say about 7 days? That is how long mine lasted anyway, but I think it depends on your bank because I remember talking to someone else about it and their hold was off after 3-4 days. You might want to call and ask your bank.

 

Shinku - ok why does she appear to have a tan or very yellow face? yet her hand is much lighter?
Just seems really strange I can't imagine its all makeup.
