Volks Tokyo Dolpa 30 Chat, December 22, 2013

Nov 14, 2013

1. Belldandy is pretty but thankfully I don't need her, and Yaya?! Why?! As much as I like Yaya's character design I pretty much hate her as a character, and thankfully her face doesn't look like her anime counterpart. And yeah the Yo Midi dolls just don't do it for me. This may be the first Dolpa I'm not pinning after something I can't afford. :P

2. pris84, yes I am. I'm already in Japan and brought one doll with me but already have two  So, I will bring them both ;) But I plan to give them to Volks to participate in the contest of longest line of dolls (the goal is to reach 3000 dolls in one line all hand in hand). And I hope to see you there too, please bring your doll too if you wish!

Thank you dear fransyung~

3. That's what I was gonna do if I couldn't live with the yo body! Akira's weird proportions have really grown on me, but Ryo's still seem strange, maybe because his hands and feet are smaller than Akira's?
Hahaha same. ;A; I had just planned on outfitting my current dolls/new faceups. Oops. At least I've always wanted a tiny!

It's been forever since I've entered a Volks lotto. I take it the Volks Japan/international lotto comes before the USA lotto? Provided Volks USA gets any of these licensed character dolls, do people usually have better luck with the Japan/international lottos or the Volks USA lottos? Or is it just kind of a crapshoot based on how popular the mold is?

4. Astro I'm not really sure if the chances are better in the US. I've entered for 4 dollfies in the international and I've managed to win 2. You can usually predict when a dollfie is going to be difficult to win based on the results from the Japanese Dolpa. The more popular ones sell out first and from there you just know your chances will be slim or not.

But I guess you can try entering twice to increase your chances, both international and US haha. And then if you win twice, you can try selling them. And Volks is unpredictable with licenses, I never seem to know when they'll allow a dollfie overseas or not.

Ksusha I'd love to go to Japan for that Doll World Record! It would be so amazing to see all the different dolls just lined up (and you have a second doll already? That's a great Japan trip souvenir!)

5. so maybe there will be also bunch of garage kit and charagumin from old school anime being displayed :) i saw the cyborg 009 outfit so interesting

6. Thanks, Milkbiscuit. The last time I entered in a lotto I won, along with my friend who offered to enter to help out. Hopefully the doll I want will be in abundance.

I was poking around the Volks sites last night to see if there was any more info and it looks like they've got clear shots of the limited dolls up on their blog. The images aren't huge but if anyone wanted to see them without grain, here they are: http://superdollfie.tea-nifty.com/
I hadn't seen some of the pictures of Belldandy before.

7. DEVILMAN Chibi are so awesome!! I have loved Volks because of the DEVILMAN Series way before they started SD
I am so doomed
Hope that I get lucky with the lottery

8. I decided to look up exactly what Devilman was about since I'd heard of it before, and just have to say man that ending.

9. Looks like the item info is up on the Dolpa portal: http://www.volks.co.jp/dolpa30/item/
It's so nice to be able to see clear photos of everything!

Also it just dawned on me that there's an anime including Devilman characters where they're all super-deformed chibis. Maybe that influenced the decision to make the Devilman dolls YoMidis?

10. It seems many people are very excited for the dolls at this dolpa, which is great, though I confess they do nothing for me. (Luckily, since I have some Y!J auctions to pay for. :sweat)

However, I was just looking at the "longest line of dolls" world record page, and saw that everyone who participates will be able to get a pair of holding hands, with various sizing options, including a brand new SD17B+SD17B pair! OH MY GOD I want my SD17 boys to be able to hold hands, that would be the cutest!

I will definitely be watching auctions after this event to try and snag myself a pair of those hands! :D

11. It's nice to see those clear photos! I am disappointed to see that Belldandy's face tattoos are just decals and don't come attached to her face. I would be soooo afraid of screwing that up. :-/

12. That is so cool! :D And what a great incentive!
I think I need to try for the SD17 Designer's Collection outfit, since it will be perfect for my newly assembled SD16 Amakusa. :3 The fingerless gloves are quickly becoming a must have also!

As much as Chibi Satan appeals to me, I have no need. Whew!

13. Guide books orders! And I ordered the Hello Kitty Bento. My husband can eat it. I'll just keep the Bento box!

I like those fingerless gloves too! I think the only items I'm hoping for this Dolpa are the SD16 and SDGr winter coats and the fingerless gloves. I like pieces of some of the designer sets but I don't think enough to buy them. A few other things tempt me but I'll probably hold off.

I will see you there, Ksusha! I decided to break down and enter the longest Dollfie line. Now to figure out which of my SD17 boys will be coming with me. I'm a little nervous about handing over my doll and essentially leaving him. I know the Volks staff are very trustworthy but how many staff members are they going to have for 3,000 dolls? *_* Still a little nerve wracking. I put in for the SD17 holding hands, hopefully I get them.

Is it my imagination are the guidebooks a lot cheaper this year?

14. Boooooo, I was hoping you'd get one so that I wouldn't have to!

Those fingerless gloves are so cool! I'm just glad I don't really care for any of the Yo outfits this time around. One doll is more than enough. *_*

15. It's M's turn to buy a doll. Besides, you just got a job, put those paychecks to good use! ;)

16. Hahahaha, I think I can (and should) only manage one. And Akira is my clear favourite, ssoo...

Someday, Ryo. Someday. I'm just hoping that his fullset price won't shoot up on the aftermarket cause of those wings.

17. Thanks to friend who showed me this, I'm thankful that the Belldandy doll isn't to my cup of tea, but the Yaya and Erica dolls...:aheartbea:aheartbea

18. I have to say that I both like and dislike that Belldandy's face markings are decals. I can't decide if it bugs me or makes me happy they are optional. She is a beautiful sculpt and really reminds me of Belle. <3

19. I agree! I want her with decals because she is Belldandy but I think the sculpt and face with the default make-up is gorgeous on it's own without the decals. I feel like when I get her (there's no ifs for me at this point, I will have her, even if I have to do secondhand market) I'm going to flip-flop!!!

20. Yay <3 official photos! Hmm, not digging the new winter outfits collection much. I don't dislike them, but they don't really appeal to me. Especially some of the color combinations are just kind of blah. This is actually something I'm kind of happy about though :D no spare cash to go after the outfits anyway!

21. At first I saw Belldandy and as I haven't seen Ah! Megami-sama I thought I would refrain myself from wanting her… o.o Then so many people recommended the anime and I watched it… and I began noticing how lovely she is… now I want her! XD

Thankfully I managed to sell a few dolls so I will have enough for her! <3
Hoping to hear some news from the US lotteries!

22. So thrilled I am safe this time. It has been a hard year and I was terrified that Lorina/Alice would be re-released. I want Lorina so badly. I do like some of the outfits but money is tight so I will have to pass. But I cannot wait to see this new girl in owner pics. Even when I don't have to have a doll I still enjoy seeing the customizations.

23. I've been trying to think of it but I just can't seem to remember- how far out do we usually hear from Volks USA that they will have the Dolpa items? I thought it was sooner but perhaps it varies? Thanks in advance to anyone who can remember what I cannot! ;)

24. Oh my gosh, as I am trying to push resin away, volks pulls me back in with belldandy !

25. pris84, cool! Actually one person could register up to 6 dolls for the longest line, so in this case that person can get up to 6 hands. The skin color of dolls doesn't matter, but the hands are all in Normal skin only, and Volks will not use the hands for the line, it's just a gift for participation. Of course the form mentions that they are not responsible for any damage and any reimbursements are up to them, but I personally trust them :)
And yes, the guidebooks are cheaper this time because you actually don't need them as a ticket, the admission this time is free and guidebooks only contain information about dealers, maps, various forms and so on.

26. I kinda guessed that the hands were't going to be used. That would be a lot of work and a potential disaster if one doll fell back. Like dominos! haha

Well, one doll is all I want to manage. :) I've brought multiple dolls before but this time, I'm just sticking to the one. Easier on the arms and back.

Looks like I'll be getting my Guidebooks today. Yay! Glad they will arrive before I leave. I would imagine the guide books still have things like the entries for the one offs, bingo, game questions, etc ..? And don't you need a book to enter the lottery to try for the dolls? It's nice that admission is free but I'm thinking it's going to be even more crazy than it usually is. :sweat

27. pris84, if you mean each guidebook - gave one attempt to draw a number for limited dolls then no, it will be different this time. I was told it would be one drawing per person no matter how many guidebooks this person has. And yes, I'm also thinking it would be more crazy than usual, but peoples who are participating in the longest line of dolls will be allowed to enter from 10AM and the rest is only from 12PM, but if the goal is 3,000 dolls it still would be crazy ;)

28. Thanks for the link! Those hands are awesome! It would be nice if Volks offered them as a regular item in the future. But probably pretty unlikely.
You need 2 pairs, so your boys can dance and swing hands! :D

29. Dancing dolls?! Oh I really didn't need that visual, now I'm going to be pining for some hands. :doh

30. Love the Belldandy! Brings back a lot of nostalgia from like 15 years ago. I am surprised the anime is still so popular. They did an excellent job capturing her look.

31. What an awesome visual, showing those two handsome guys holding hands. Now, I feel like flying off to Japan just to get them lol! Or maybe find a proxy.. Maybe Volks will be releasing them as standard hands one day. Like, 2-3 years down the road.

32. I got my SD10 holding hands from a special order form in Volks News at some point, so it will probably be possible to get them some other equally limited way eventually.

33. I used to read and watch Ah! My Goddess and as lovely as Belldandy is, nothing catches my eye this Dolpa so my wallet is safe for now...

34. So happy, i'm safe from this dolpa

35. Oh my god! Why is this so soon! D;

36. OH LORD. It figures, I just paid for something else relatively large... At least I've still got enough for Akira! I was planning on taking my chances with the international lotto, seeing as even with EMS shipping, he'd probably still be cheaper than paying tax + shipping, but I can't risk missing out on this little guy so here goes! I wish I could enter right away.

Good luck to everyone who plans to enter the lotto! May you all win your dolls of choice!

37. It's still just a little under two weeks so there is still time to decide! Though Dolpa on Christmas is always kind of terrible.... and awesome. I cannot wait to see the owner pics of Belldandy come back after the event on the 22nd. I am hoping she'll have some lovely versatility like Belle who has had the most stunning owner pics!

Yes, indeed! I love the lottery. I know not everyone is a fan but I think it is super exciting & fun to have something to look forward to~ ;)

38. It's fun but it's so stressful! Do I enter the US lottery alone? Just the international lottery? Both? What do I doooooooo? *_*

39. Do it all! Sometimes I've lost five different ways and had to buy secondhand or just let it go. :/

40. I most likely will! I'm just worried because I seriously don't want to end up with two.
I have a level of Murphy's Law bad luck that I would probably manage to somehow win three even though I only entered twice, and be forced to buy all of them. *_*

41. If you are only entering through Volks and WLD you won't be forced to buy them all. They stagger the results so that you'll already know if you've won from the first venue before you find out if you've won from the others. As long as all of your entries are in your name, you won't be penalized for cancelling a second win. They'll have you on file as a winner already.

42. I didn't know that, and that's wonderful news! Now I'm much less worried and can settle with only setting half a million alarms on my phone reminding me to enter the lotto. :>

Edit: Silly question, but what does WLD stand for?

43. would you hear from WLD first or Volks first?

44. It's been a while since I've won from both, though it has happened, but I seem to recall that WLD gives Volks their list of winners first so that VolksUSA can eliminate them from their own lottery.

45. I'm Ready!!! I'm glad I started saving the minute I saw Belldandy's pictures!! I'm ready to enter through Volks USA and WLD and if I don't win, the After Event!!!

46. Ok, just wondering - can you enter the lottery on Volks USA even when you're not from the U.S. but Europe? Or can you enter the international lottery only in that case? Also - let's assume you won the same doll on Volks USA and in the international lottery. Would you have to buy all two of them? Or would they know you already won one? (Because I certainly can afford one Devilman but two ... no way.)

Also - what's WLD?

47. European customers can only enter the lottery via the Volks international site. VolksUSA and the only remaining dealer We Love Dolls can only ship to North American addresses.

48. I thought WLD was just USA? That would be cool if they shipped to Canada. But I don't think they do?

49. Maybe it's just VolksUSA that ships to Canada? Or maybe it was Kerby Lane. It's not something I've had to utilize, so I can't remember. >.>

50. But do the Volks international lotto and the Volks USA lotto correlate their results so that they know if you've already won one doll or not, like WLD and Volks USA does?

Ahh so confusing. *_*

51. No, Volks International and VolksUSA work separately from each other, and if you win from both, you are obligated to buy both. However, in the past, the entry periods from both have always been separate enough that you could find out if you won from one (usually VolksUSA is earlier, happening at the same time as the Dolpa, and with International being a couple of weeks after the Dolpa itself) and if not, enter into the second without worry of a double purchase.

As for the Volks dealers, WLD and Kerbey Lane when they were still open, are only allowed to sell to the US, via some contract with Volks. VolksUSA is open to Canada, US, and Mexico.

52. Thanks! Hopefully I'll win the lotto earlier rather than later.

53. Ah, ok. That kinda sucks but then, so does life ... ;) Let's hope I'll win my Devilman on Volks international cos I don't think I'll buy him on the second hand market unless I can get him for no more than his original price ...

54. It's getting closer to lottery entry date (and I'm super excited, today I woke up with a face like 0_0 realizing that it was almost time to enter!) and I was looking at WLD to see how to enter there, and I was a bit confused by it. Will they put up a special Tokyo Dolpa 30 lottery entry page, or do you really have to enter via email like it says here?
If that's how you do it, is there anything else you need to tell them other than what you want to enter the lotto for and to say that you want to receive the newsletter? Do you do that during the Volks USA lotto dates?

Sorry for the dumb questions, just wanting to get everything lined up ahead of time. *_*

55. No such things as dumb questions- the lottery is different depending on where you are and who you are entering with. There is no special entry page for WLD. Simply copy the item names you want from the mail WLD sent and reply to ([email protected]) and paste it in with an additional request to be added to their mailing list. I would also suggest sending your name, address, paypal address (if you are using Paypal), and phone number. They will send you confirmation of your entry likely later in the day.

Volks USA will have special pages for the items on their site accessible from the Dolls Party 30 index page where, on December 20th, you will add the item to your cart and check-out as if you were purchasing it. This does not guarantee your purchase. Please be aware that this may put a hold on funds in your account for the amount of the items though it will not actually charge your account until you are confirmed for the lottery items. The confirmation usually comes through 1-2 weeks after the lottery entry period ends. Every time I have entered through Volks I have had a hold on my account for the entire item amount until it is either canceled or confirmed and charged.

I hope this helps and absolute best of luck, Astro!

56. Thank you! I've entered Volks USA lottos before and it's been very straightforward, I was mostly just confused by doing it with WLD because of that little note. St. James mentioned that they stagger their results so that (I think?) WLD knows if you win first and will forward the results to Volks, so I'm going to enter both.
To clarify: I can send the lotto entry to WLD at pretty much any time, or should I just wait until the Volks USA lotto opens to enter the lotto through WLD as well? WLD didn't have any dates listed. *_*

Thanks again!

57. Yes! You should enter through both. WLD will have their number confirmations from Volks USA. Then WLD will share their list of winners from their lottery with Volks so there will be no duplicates in the forthcoming Volks USA lottery.

You should send your entry to WLD as soon as you receive the mail- that means they are currently taking orders from that day forward until the end date they list in their mail. WLD does mention their lottery e-mail their items are 'first come, first serve' so the sooner the better. They also say in their mail "Please tell us your wishes by December 17th, 2013 5pm CST." You have until that deadline to send your lottery entry items in to WLD. Since their lottery ends 3 days before the Volks lottery starts, I would definitely not wait and try to enter both!

Of course! If you have other lottery questions I can help with, just pm me! I will be more than happy to help you. :)

58. I think I've got it! I'm signing up for their newsletter group and requesting the lotto entry as we speak, so hopefully they'll get back to me sometime tomorrow or Monday. One more question- Do you know if items won through WLD arrive before Volks USA gets them, or is it around the same wait time? (for this Dolpa in question, it looks like things through Volks USA will be arriving in April?)
I'm kind of assuming that I'll have to go through the process of copying the item name I want over again once WLD responds to me, but I may as well tell them in advance too.

Once again, thank you so much for your help.
