Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXIV

Jan 12, 2024

    1. I use 18mm in mine :)

    2. Is there anywhere that lists (or does anyone know) the measurement of the small bust variants of the SDGr and SD16 girl bodies, and what dolls they were used for? I've only been able to find the measurements for the L bust versions which seem to be the most common.

    3. A great reference site with information, but alas, no measurements can be found here Misc Info
Youtube video showing the SDGR S-bust (small bust)

The SD13 S-bust body might be a good 'foundation' to get an idea for measurements.

    6. Such beauties! Thank you for showcasing the resin color differences also. I wish the amber resin color was available as a FCS option in the SD size! So lovely.

    7. Thank you @ame_hime and @beamlette for sharing your new SD16! Congrats on the new girls~

I've had Volta for well over a year now but I finally got him to "presentable" with new wigs (and not a make-do from another doll). He's closer to my vision of him now. It feels like a big achievement! :cheer

    8. I'm so excited about the new Volks News! So many new lovely dolls coming out. I am happy more people will have the opportunity to bring home Luna!

Doll tax of my Irvin I took photos of this weekend:

    9. @nyaaain Oooh! Your Volta is too handsome! I love the dark hair and green eye combo and it complements so nicely with how you styled him. He is gorgeous and I hope you post more of him with his new wig! It's amazing completing doll projects even if it takes year. :)

@I<3MySD Your Irvin is too cute and I love the styling. The wig is unique, where did you get it? I'm also excited about the news! There is a WS F-03 I believe and that is a favorite sculpt of mine. And Luna is so pretty and happy she's making rounds again.

    10. Thank you so much! I got the wig on yahoo Japan auctions, so unfortunately I don't know the specific maker! It was a second hand listing. It was absolutely love at first sight for me though! I initially bought it for Abelia, but Irvin was an unexpected wig thief :XD:

    11. Well. Just bought a new SD boy while in vacation in Japan. A fullset black jack kiriko. Gonna have to buy a second suitcase to get him back but he's so cute. XD

Guess I'm back in the dolly world again.

    12. @captainkyo - love Kiriko! I hunted down a head a few years ago. Full set! wow. so jelly. :XD: welcome back.

    13. I
      Thank you!

His face up does have a little damage so I may just have him repainted. I think it's just in the chin tho. Maybe can fix it xD

Trying to stop into tenshi no sato today. Its a 1.5hr train ride from where I'll be. @.@

I went to tenshi no mado the other day which was so cool. Got a couple cute pieces for my girls back home.

    14. Did anyone enter into the Global One-offs? Today is the day that the winners will be announced. Best of luck :D

    15. Yes trying not to check my email constantly :eusa_pray!!! Fingers crossed! Hope to see winners here! Good luck everyone :whee:

    16. I uploaded some pics of my FCS Diamond so I thought I'd share them here~
He would have arrived earlier but he showed up in LA with a damaged faceup and was immediately sent back to JP to get it fixed.
Technically I ordered Diamond on an SD16 girl body but both the head and body were slated to be two different dolls~

Diamonds got a pretty large head so I think I will end up with something 70cm - he's currently borrowing a body from one of my other dolls, Doll Family H 68cm and the proportions are pretty good - but I think he can pull off a little more height.

I think he'll keep these eyes for him but everything else is temporary - he stole the body, the outfit, the wig... and he's not going to be a cat boy~

    17. Your Diamond is looking totally gorgeous, I love his face up and eyes. Is this dark recommended make? I love it
and even thought it's a borrowed look it suits him :kitty2 what a shame that he won't get to stay a catboy, at least he can enjoy it for a little while til he gets his own things :kitty2:kitty2 meow!

      • x 1
    18. @idrisfynn Everything may be "stolen", but he looks so good in all of it.:love

    19. Hooray, more Diamonds :love
It's such a unique sculpt, and I love seeing more out there!

    21. I didn't receive any emails from Volks so i didn't win a one-off - still it was fun to even have the chance to try!
For those who also entered, how did you do?

    22. No winning email for me either but I’m gonna hold out hope until my lottery results changes from application :eusa_pray. Agreed that it was fun to have a chance! Looking forward to more web events :D

    23. :ablink:Mine still says "Application" - does that mean Volks is still working through announcing winners ? Like does the status change when all winners are announced, and the 'losers' get a different status?

    24. I’m not 100% sure but I think it may stay as “application” for a few days until payment is collected from the winners and then that lottery is officially closed and the status will change to indicate “lost”. Never know if someone won’t pay by the deadline and they redraw!

      • x 2
    25. This is correct! I am sure it happens, even if rarely.

No email for me either but I wasn't expecting one :XD: I would like to think they have some sort of system in place to filter out recent ish winners so more people have a chance. But who knows!

I am hoping to see a winner or two here though, that would be so fun!

@idrisfynn your Diamond is still living rent free in my head, I'm obsessed!

      • x 2
    26. No email here either, but that just means more holiday funds for my Japan trip in October. Still working out which doll I want to take with me for autumn foliage photos...

      • x 5
    27. These photos of Diamond are lovely - I think that's the sculpt I'd choose if I was ever going to do a doll of Virginia Woolf...

      • x 3
    28. My application still says 'application' status and not 'lost' :? which seems strange.

    29. @PinkBear It's for the very rare case when a lottery winner doesn't pay for their item and Volks does a re-draw (and then blacklist the non-paying winner). Volks doesn't change the status to "defeat" until all items have been paid for.
That's how I ended up with a Shizu from 2023's Best Selection lottery – someone didn't pay for her and I was fortunate!

I finally got my girl Tahlia to Tenshi no Sato in Kyoto last weekend. I bought her a dried flower hairpin and a flower crown, but since it was the first day of the anniversary event, all the human-sized cake sets were sold out. I still got a doll one and they gave her a matcha ice cream and a window seat next to the koi pond. It was too 和 for my heart. :...( I should've put her in a yukata.

This is her second teatime out--I also took her to doll-friendly Chamber of Raven for afternoon tea with another doll friend earlier this month too and we received lots of compliments from the staff. Still have yet to go to Marionette.

    31. @Grimoire Tahlia looks adorable in the lemon outfit, and the macha ice cream is so cute :love

Thanks for sharing info on doll-friendly cafes – I'm going to Japan in October so knowing more spots where I can have a cake and take cute doll photos is much appreciated!

      • x 1
    32. I've been tacking them onto my Google maps. The ones I know for sure are:

-Tenshi no Sato in Kyoto (obviously, but you need to get your cafe ticket as soon as you walk in or cake will be sold out)
      -Orion in Tsubaicho, Nara
-Marionette Amis in Iwamotocho, Tokyo (needs reservation)
-Dead Gunman's Society in Higashinakano, Tokyo
-Chamber of Raven in Ogikubo (not doll-exclusive--there are also non-doll customers, needs reservation)
      -N's Doll in Mihashi, Saitama
-Doll Studio Sen in Abiko, Chiba (studio, not cafe--they have an interesting plan where you can stay overnight though)

A few of these cafes have their own little studios too, but it might cost extra to use them.

I've never done it, but like anywhere else in Japan, it's usually ok to take your doll out for photoshoots in public spaces as long as you don't make a huge deal out of it or bother anyone else (like taking up space at a busy area of a popular tourist site, etc.) and you pack up after the photoshoot is over. You might get some looks from older people or tourists, which is why most doll owners here opt to find a space with relatively no people or just don't take photos in public or feel more comfortable if other doll friends are around. But nerdy photography hobbies like cosplay are generally becoming more accepted here and taking small stuffed animals with you and photographing them on travels is considered a normal hobby.

    34. Hey guys! I'm still learning how to use DOA so I hope this is the right place for me to ask this question.

Did Volks ever release SD Mytyl in white resin?

What SD girl sculpts have big puppy/doe eyes? I am trying to find one in white resin, I LOVE Mytyl but she is NS.

    35. @ShwiftyCupid24, Volks released Mytyl in white as one of the auction dolls for Dolpa 40. She was themed as Joséphine, wife of Napoleon (RG Williams). She sold at auction for 3,330,000円, which was about $30,000 at the time. You can see the Twitter announcement about it here: https://x.com/volks_doll/status/1074202525358682112

Other than that, Mytyl hasn’t been released in white.

    36. She's so beautiful in white, such a shame it was a one time release. Thankyou for the info

    37. Can I see everyone's Volks Mytyls please? She's my favorite.

    38. Girl Sd13 body vs sd10 body, which do you prefer and why? I LOVE the look of the sd10 but I worry about limited torso mobility.

    39. SD10 also has a jointed torso version if you want both boxes checked. There are a couple for sale on Mandarake if you want to see how it looks.

I have a solid torso doll that is not a super dollfie (so I might miss some volks-specific quirks here) - it's surprisingly okay to have no waist joint but of course you can't do any slouching poses or turn from the waist. It's also much harder to get a solid-torso doll to sit up straight but it's greatly helped by sueding or kips in the hip sockets. If you're looking for more complex posing, you'll likely feel limited by a solid torso, but it does look nice and doesn't snag clothes between the joint.

    40. I recently pondered this issue, actually.

My girl came with SD10 and I do like the SD10 body with no joint torso in terms of holding/cuddling, body proportions and overall stability, but it does have a flaw. They don't sit as naturally as SD13, i.e., they slump backward slightly and stare towards the ceiling and you'd need a pillow behind her to stabilize to have her looking forward. Someone had a diagram somewhere of the FCS bodies with a bird's eye view photo above their heads showing how far back they lean and it's pretty accurate. The SD10 Suwarikko body does not do this, if you wanted to keep a more childlike body shape with fewer sitting issues.

If you plan on seating her in a chair in your room or prefer a more teenage look, you might want to switch to SD13. If you plan to have her standing with a stand or prefer her to be more child-like, SD10 is fine--just get her a dedicated "lounging pillow" for sitting.

I wanted my girl to be slightly taller and more mature than SD10, and I got lucky and found someone getting rid of their extra FCS SD13 PS White torso with larger chest, long legs and heeled feet and switched it out so she's like a pseudo-SDGR now without the secondhand price.

    41. So I just got back from my trip and after some jet lag, threw something on Yugiri i got at Sato <3
(Dr. Kiriko is in pieces cuz i had to tetris him into my carry on bag lol.)
I didn't have any spare wigs i like on him, so i'll have to keep searching.
I'm so happy they had him in stock <3

    42. @captainkyo He is so sweet! I am happy for you that you got him. He has such a cute face. :daisy

My fist Volks doll is in the mail. I am super excited for her to finally be coming home. :sumomo:

    43. Oh! Yugiri! Congratulations, what a cutie. One of my early loves, I have a soft spot for many of the tenshi (and I have a Sakaki). I had no idea Sato had any of the older ones in stock these days. There's something so special about being able to just walk in and buy a doll you're excited about!

Really interesting info about the SD10 girl bodies, since I have a one-piece torso SD10 boy (a Kanata I bought at Sato years ago), and he doesn't sit strangely at all. But he does have a very arched back for sure. (My ceiling-starer is SD17 Claude, whose head likes to snap backwards for some reason...)

    44. Thankyou for the feedback! I do prefer the sd10 body but wanted a split torso, it's good to know they exist.

    45. @Ayaka Interesting – I also have a Claude but he doesn't have the same thing with his head posing.
I have a few dolls whose heads will snap to the side (my DWC-1 on a seirei body is the biggest culprit) unless they have a kip on the neck (and I have to make sure it's not gotten caught up in the head hole!)

      • x 2
    46. @castironteapot well, that lends credence to my theory that he's just annoyed with me, lol! I better name him and do a proper photoshoot. (And try a KIPS disk there! I actually suspect his stringing, somehow, but he poses so well otherwise I'm loathe to change it.)

      • x 1
    47. SD17 boys are capricious individuals! I have 3 (Claude, Ryōma, Hijikata) and neither of them pose identically!
Funnily enough Hijikata is the easiest and gentlest to pose, despite being designed as the Shinsengumi's "demon vice commander"
