Don't worry, the Dear SD box isn't that big. I sold my Tiffany's original body earlier this year and it fit with length to spare in the box VolksUSA uses to ship their dolls. The flaps to make the cute house shape fold down so it's only a little taller than a standard SD box. So the shipping shouldn't be any worse than a standard SD, a bit less since it's a lighter body. *enable*

Oh boy, I made the mistake of playing around with the FCS option on the Volks site. I was never really interested in SD13 dolls before but now I can't help it. If only I had a spare thousand dollarydoos; I'm not sure anymore if I'd go straight to Fairyland or to Volks!

That's odd. You may want to contact Volks about it then? Because according to the item listing, payment shouldn't go through unless you've won, but it may sometimes accidentally go through in the case of certain debit cards. Sounds like an error on their end.

 

Anyone buy the Black Skirt Coordinates outfit and try it on their SD16? Normally I don't have any trouble with Volks outfits but I'm having a hell of a time dressing my girl in this. I can't get the bustier to sit correctly, the skirt doesn't seem to want to hook exactly on any of the hooks and the belt isn't wide enough to overlap the top and bottom pieces.

Maybe I'm just extra cranky and senile today

Unrelated, but I've been thinking in the future I'd like to get an old F-01 again, it's such a nice sculpt

 

@Melissa she’s absolutely adorable! I’ve been longing for some of the older Volks sculpts. That aesthetic is so classic and beautiful, as is your girl!

I have a question for those of you with the older type SDGr girl body: how do you get the neck ball to not be crazy? My girl’s head likes to flip back when I’m posing her, and it seems like the ball just floats around in the socket. I have a kips between the ball and the head pocket, and I’ve tried hot glue around the ball and neck socket. The hot glue worked ok but it tends to slip off whenever I have to take her head off. Is there a better way to get things to stay put and not have her head fly backward?

 

They are adorable!! My Williams was shipped earlier today! I am so excited!!

 

I used silicone aquarium glue to keep the ball in place, but I also just bought a newer body when I had the chance.

 

Just got an email from VolksUSA. They've announced the Hometown Kyoto 17 Online Event for USA but I think it's missing the One-off event.

Is anyone here planning to enter the world cup?

 

Volks USA almost never has one-offs ? I can only think of two, maybe three times where they've had one offs, and they were specifically for Volks USA and only Volks USA. The HTD Kyoto #17 event from Volks USA takes place after the one-off lottery entry period for HTD Kyoto #17 will have ended on the international web store. If you'd like to enter for a one-off you'll need to have global membership and do so on the international site.

Usually with Volks USA event banners, what you see is what you get. I think it's safe to assume that they'll only be getting Cecile/Williams, the new Yos, and Kizuna Ai. No Venus, no one-offs, no D-coords, no Dear SD, etc... If anyone is interested in any of those items, your best bet is to register for global membership. I think there's still time to enter for every lottery that has begun so far (provided your global membership clears in time), and there's still several (including the lottery for one-offs) that have yet to start.

Also got my shipping notification for Williams and Cecile. There's only one tracking number so I guess they're coming in one ginormous box haha. I hope I don't have to pick them up from the post office because there's no room in my coupe for such large box. ETA is this Saturday but so many packages are delayed so I'm not keeping my hopes up... As long as they arrive safe and sound, I'm good with waiting!

Speaking of older sculpts, here's my freshly repainted Yugiri, Theodore. I've always adored this sculpt but now I do even more because he's by far the cutest doll I own!!

@Astro That's good to know. I was curious how Volks operated historically. It's a good thing I got my GL membership back in June. Poor Volks USA.

 

On VolksUSA one-offs, I hope they offer Holiday Greeting one-offs again this season. I had come to expect them being part of the event after being offered the previous 5 years and was disappointed they were not done for 2019.
It’s really awesome that GL members will have a chance at one-off models for HTDP Kyoto17! I can’t wait to see them.

 

@purplepaws Your Yugiri is THE CUTEST. I have my Madoka on a Yugiri body. It’s one of my favorite bodies Volks ever made. It’s nice to see that sculpt around again.

 

Yep! Having access to one-offs in a Japanese Dolpa lottery is kind of unprecedented. I think we've had the Holiday Greeting one-offs for Volks USA maybe 3 or so times? And we had one-offs at a Halloween party at the former Volks mansion in LA. That's all I can remember us ever having! For what it's worth, I would not expect this to happen again. I think as long as Covid is a threat and that Volks may have to cancel physical Dolpas (and should! I am SO glad they cancelled! HTD Kyoto!) we may be able to enter for them, but normally we wouldn't have a chance.

The weird Shrodinger's lottery for Williams and Cecile is also something I've only seen once before... with Cinderella like a month ago. I saw someone here won Cinderella- did anyone lose her? And before Bolpa was cancelled, I'd never seen a doll that was to be sold only at a Dolpa and not go to an after event other than Tyltyl (I think it was him) getting a rerelease that was limited to about 40 dolls
This Dolpa period is admittedly really, really weird and I think is keeping even veterans on their toes lol, especially with the scramble to make sure everyone has a global membership.

I'm enjoying seeing everyone pay the doll tax! Here's an older photo of my Date II twins.

 

In addition to the winter holiday one-offs online and Halloween party that you mentioned, VolksUSA has also had generously full slates of one-offs for the various physical Dolpas in Los Angeles and New York that have happened over the years.

 

Omg I completely forgot to count those. Those and the ones at the Halloween party were limited to physical attendees though. Online one-off entries for the USA store is still quite rare and I think people from anywhere other than North America being able to enter an online one-off lottery is even rarer

 

@purplepaws - Theodore is super cute! I've been warming up to getting a Yugiri of my own possibly, really have liked seeing customs recently.

I got my Dolpa outfits and I could not resist getting this outfit from Shiro. I certainly never had a hot gym teacher like this.

 

Let’s all go in the way-back machine to 2007-2009 when VolksUSA started offering online one-offs through lottery. The initial VolksUSA staff held online one-off lotteries for a few years and stopped until they started having the Holiday Greeting One-Off lotteries in 2014. Does anyone remember those initial online one-offs?

I always wondered what happened to those dolls. MyFigureCollection has a few photos of some one-offs like Liz, Chris, and a SD13 F-38 boy. But they’ve all disappeared into obscurity. I think a lot of the older owners who won them are no longer active online or the hobby.

 

OMG yes, I was curios about it for a long time. Thank you for pointing that out. Unless the owners are no longer in the hobby otherwise I guess they just don’t wanna show their collection online.

I also started a layaway for a full set Oscar and I am SO excited Rose of Versailles is my favorite anime, and I was absolutely devastated when I returned from a doll hiatus to see that Volks made Oscar and Andre. I hope to find Andre someday too so they can be together!

@enyka It's a lottery. From my understanding Volks will place a temporary/pending charge that may or may not disappear throughout the lottery period, and then reappear if you win? My friends that entered for Cecile and Williams said that the pending charge disappeared from their CC statements. I haven't checked mine in a while so I should go do that! It's there so that they can charge you immediately if you win and so that they don't have a bunch of people making multiple accounts & entries and then not paying if they win more than once, I assume. The charge doesn't go through/gets refunded if you lose.

The doll tax is my favourite tax! This thread is such a pleasure to browse through.

I just wanted to share that my Belle finally shared her name with me, after all the years she’s been with me, lol. Her name is Morgan Celeste. I used to just make names out of her sculpt name, but now I can proudly call her by her own name. Hooray!

And a quick bodiless photo since Morgan is currently getting restrung and cleaned.

 

@idrisfynn She totally is underrated. I wish there were more of her around; her sculpt is so versatile and pretty! But I’m thankful I get to have one all for myself.

Agreed - online one-offs greatly increase their (potential) accessibility, and these events have not been held very often. In fact, until the recent online-only Dolpas, I'm not sure the Japanese side of things ever has had that actually, because all I remember was in-store and at-event lottery opportunities. Occasionally not needing to be physically present somewhere may have been a VolksUSA only thing.

Forgot to pay the going rate doll tax yesterday. Let's hope the assessor's office doesn't notice.

@Holo's Apple Tree I think you're right, I don't believe Japanese side has had the option to enter for one-offs online before? If they have, certainly not many times! This Dolpa is kind of uncharted waters. I've also only ever seen one-offs in stores and at physical events. I feel like the lottery pools for them are going to be huge this time because entry is accessible to almost everyone.
P.S. I love your girl and am perfectly happy to accept a late tax payment.

I'm having to reach back super far to pay my doll tax. I'm away from home currently and the only Volks doll I have with me is my MDD Arle >w< and can't take new photos. Here's an ooooooooold pic of the first of my Date II twins from when I got him in Japan.

Thank you! I hope to find a more ship-like backdrop for this one to replace the shoji screen one day, but the diorama scene is Captain Sylvie's cabin and treasure hoard. She spins the globe and points, checking off which sea lanes she owns, and which she's going to own soon.
