Yes... high tax... this kills me all the time. It hurts to know that for this fee you'd could get a full doll. But in the end, when you will hold your Yukinojo in your hands, you'll forget about this. He is so wonderful *sigh*

 

Ah... one of these days I'll get my hands on Yukinojo. We were keeping an eye out but then Shiro demanded to be bought and sometimes you just can't resist when the doll calls. You both have to post more pictures in the meantime.

Extremely pleased with this guy, the default face-up looks pretty much exactly as pristine as your photos @Sadomina which, yeah actually that little beard is perfect for a**hole surfer dude... Realised that he does have the default eyelashes too, though why Volks bothered when they're so short you can only make them out when you're practically looking up his nose I don't know!

I might attempt to swap out his eyes, since I personally prefer smaller iris to white ratios than his defaults, but de-gluing his eye-sockets looks like it's going to be a daunting process.

Uh that wig probably isn't going to be his permanent hair, it just happened to be the closest to the right style/colour that I've got in that would fit his massive noggin. (Dammit I've got a stylistically perfect wig for this character that nearly fits, but nearly is close but no cigar.) I think he really does make a perfect 'big brother' sculpt to my Volks Heath (also a Mandarake splurge... uh oh I see a pattern here...), appropriately enough he stole the ugly beach shirt from Heath!

Thankfully, as predicted, all of the 'damage' Mandarake listed was superficial and easily remedied with a v.quick wipe down with a damp magic eraser.

Re-examined the Mandarake listing when I realised his arms didn't have the additional joint, and realised that the previous owner must have either put him together from two separate Volks dolls, or cannibalised him for his body - he's on an SD17 I believe? (Very unsure here.) He's either yellowed extremely evenly, or barely at all, since the match is perfect, despite the piecemeal head + body situation. Just like Heath his resin does have that classic, difficult to describe, Volks rough/not rough kinda satiny feel and heft to it.

Uh for identification purposes - There's extremely thin silicone kips in his arm joints (which keep getting ineffectually sucked up into the stringing channels), and all the usual metal hoops, and that cross-joint in the wrists to aid with taking off the hands and feet - though the previous owner seems to have gotten fed up of the system and put in thread hoops between his hands and the s-hooks. (I initially thought I'd have to restring him, but I'm going to try and get those things out and see how it all feels first.) The hip joints seem like they're almost perfect lol, there's an extremely impressive example of that joint that lets the doll hug it's own legs, but 90 degree sitting portion currently feels a bit off. So... actually restringing may well be happening soon.

Mandarake listing for body type confirmation, ahem yes this is what happens when a newbie Volks person obsessively hunts out the details of their beloved headsculpts, but not so much with the bodies:

Really not that annoyed by the body swap, since frankly, the floating Yukinojo headsculpts that have turned up on Mandarake in the past have all been comparatively extortionate, I'd just like to know what it is!

 

@Vetinari You are right. Your Yukinojo is actually on a SD17 body instead of his original SdGou body. He appears to be in great shape and not super mellow yellow. Excellent! He still looks stunning on the SD17 body. Congratulations!

And thanks for the identification confirm! I started double-guessing myself when the lack of obvious comparison photos for Volks reared it's head as I was trying to hunt out info - only just stumbled on the little factoid that the SD17 is known for that hip joint issue lol, via the magic of google translate.

 

Nice find! The Gou body is very pretty but it's kind of a super pain to work with rofl so maybe it's for the best? Though SD17 boy is one of the few sizes I've never owned so I can't say for sure. XD

I keep kind of wanting to track down another Yukinojo one of these days, I miss him. But I'd want the original release lol. I really liked the SD16 boy body, it's too bad they never used it again. One of Remus' hands is still my avatar here after all these years.

 

Haha! Thank you - yeah aesthetically it's a good match, the body doesn't feel 'wrong' for the headsculpt or anything like that. Hell, the slouchy posture of the SD17 is pretty much perfect for the character, he's just muscly enough to think the world of himself too lol. Yukinojo is going to be the member of my not-actually-beach-bums trio that lives up to the stereotypes the most.

Hrmm... SD17 eccentricities... I've already spotted that posing-wise he definitely seems to need those little kips Volks included in the arm joints, for all that they keep getting sucked up into the channels... Currently one of the kips is just free-floating uselessly inside his torso lmao so he struggles to do much with that shoulder.

Uh... Also having investigated that hip joint, it looks suspiciously like Volks tried and failed to fix the posing/sitting issue at the prototype stage? (Any Volks experts/SD17 owners able to confirm this?) He sits leaning backwards - which again, actually perfect for the surfer dude side of the character that's very much coming to the fore - just there's some very intricately casted (but ultimately useless lol) attempts at making the joint grippier going on in there. They're almost like extremely shallow joint-locks that have been given a deliberate sandpapery texture/surface. I've never seen anything quite like it before, it's like they decided they didn't want to put silicone in there too, so tried to cast the additional friction into the surface of the doll. Almost the opposite approach to the way 5th Motif and Dollshe made those little hollows/silicone bars/dots in the joints inherent to their designs.

 

@Vetinari Oh wow this was a fast arrival! Big congrats on your handsome boy! The SD17 body fits him really well, and to my opinion it's much easier to find outfits for SD17 than to SDGou^^

 

@Sadomina thanks! Yeah I was pretty surprised, the tracking was still saying 'delivery will happen on Tuesday the - blah blah'.

Hah, yeah excellent point, I've got much more stuff in this slimmer 'tall' SD17-slim 70cm size than bigger SDGou fitting stuff.

I think this guy is going to end up fully embracing the beach bum/surfer dude vibe, that indolent slouch the SD17 falls into so readily really suits the character. (Oh, he's got a trigger/action figure style gun hand btw? Is that common to this body, or from a specific release?) That ugly shirt he 'borrowed' from my Heath is just his now. (Was surprised it fit, but it was always deliberately oversized on the SD13.) He's already demanding more ugly beach shirts... For now, until his real stuff gets worked out, he looks ridiculously hipster; houndstooth trousers, beach shirt and stretched out vest/undershirt strategically pulled down to go, look look at my chest lmao. Somehow he's pulling it off! Mostly I think it's that ****-you! posture/slight smirk that's doing it.

 

@Vetinari The gun hand might be from the Williams Young Ensign release (I got this hand with mine, but cannot remember if it came with the default or with the gun, which was only available to purchase with a cut out of his papers)

I also traded for a Rinon head, who feels much more in line with the current group. I think I'll get her repainted eventually since she's currently Volks default, but she's really cute for the time being. Jasper is going to be the tomboy of the bunch

hello everyone so I recently acquired a volks body that I been having a hard time figuring out which body type it is. It has legs that been modded but not pictured (still figuring out what to do about that part though) but no arms at all. Or head at that lol. So finding out what body it is could really help to attempt to find arms that fit. Plus advice to where to look for replacement arms since this body is a bit old it seems.

@Pooki Looks like an SD13 body to me, but not sure what bust size. As far as where to get replacements... a wanted listing on the marketplace might the best bet?

You might be right about looking 2nd hand as this whole thing is a project as she looks like a sanding project as she still has good resin color just the outer layer is yellowed while inside is still pinkish. Thank you again for helping!

Now to figure out what head I could put on her. Maybe it'd be my grail but that will be next month's project search lol Hopefully I will return to you all with a picture or two when this body is redone properly

I could use some help confirming identification on this very scary old gal I am planning on restoring. I think it's a NoNo...? The eyes look a little too narrow though. I am having a hard time identifying her!

Oh I can definitely see that as a possibility! She is on an older body as well, with the enormous ball joints. I suppose I can get more clear photos of her when she arrives to me!

Ah maybe! This is a photo of her clunky body if it helps at all. I think it's just a normal SD body, but I could be mistaken/she could have been swapped around throughout the course of her...trying life

 

My guess is she might be a modded sleeping Nono.

 

@I<3MySD The nose looks more like Nono (to me), it's possible that someone added some epoxy putty to the eyes to make them half-closed.

 

I had a hunch she may be modded in some way looking at her weirdly lidded eyes! I can't wait to see what's going on under that makeup! Thank you for all the input.

So I kept having bonding issues with Hikaru, my DWC02. Eventually I realized that one of the issues was that I had tried to make her a girl. The character Hikaru is a girl and will get a different shell at some point, but this particular head came on a boy body and I realized I do like him as a cute boy better. So I put him back on his freshly cleaned body and decided to try and make him into the (cheshire) cat boy character that has been floating in the back of my mind for ages. Then I found this awesome, cat inspired visual kei/punk outfit on Mandarake, for a great price too, and decided to give the kitty boy a go. And I think it's working This style is usually not really my thing, but the color combination is, and this thing is really well made too. Incidentally it's also really close to my late best friend's style, which is kind of comforting in a way... Eyes and wigs are temporary until I find the right ones for him, and he does need a new body. I like the SD13, but he's annoyingly yellow and I will forever be bothered by single jointed elbows, so I will likely get him an SDGr body at some point. But for now, here's Ches as he is now tentatively called^^.

I'm shaking, I'm getting a complete fullset original release Michele and I am ahhhhhhh! He was my first Volks true love and I really regret selling my second release of him I had.

 

Congrats! I almost put in an offer on him but then I thought "he is so perfect and original, someone out there wants him just as he is!". I'm so glad you were the person to buy him!

 

My F16 is on SD17 body. He fits fine. (photo removed)


I've used School A on SDGr body when I had one and I did not like it because the head is big and neck is too narrow and tall. I personally think School A fits SD17 better. That is just my personal preference.

 

I have a School A on an SDGr body and I really like the way it looks! I will try to get some pics tomorrow ^^

 

I've never compared them side by side but I have a sunlight F16 on SDGr body which I also do not like proportion-wise.


Volks never released sunlight skin in SD17 size so I have no choice but to keep him on SDGr. To me, I think both School A and F16 look better on SD17 bodies ^^ Same goes for Black Cat Lucas/White Cat Chris and Lucas/Chris heads. The shoulders of SDGr bodies are just too narrow for them. Some people disagree and there is no right or wrong answer. I think it depends on your personal preference.

There will be a re-release of Lorina I and II on Mar. The new girl with red dress should be Lorina/Jo and the other one is the one released in 2018 at Takashimaya (and everyone knows what happened XDDD).
