Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXVII

Dec 15, 2019

    1. @revien Yes, my Sumika LA card in the photo is a regular hard card. You're not misremembering though - VolksUSA later switched to laminated printouts with the same image, as someone I know got one of those. I'm not sure whether it was a permanent swap or if laminates were issued between hardcard print runs.

    2. I have both types of cards. Not sure why, but they have the same number, One was given to me early on and the other was issued sometime later.

    3. I came to share my Kohya who will soon, hopefully get new faceup! I'm so glad I completed her so quickly and I'm soooo in love with her! :love If anyone more has Tohya/Kohya please share! I need more english-speaking people who love this sculpt : D

    4. Hey all you lovely people, i have a question for you as someone here might know. is there any SDGou (sd17) size boys that have come out in sunlight?

I saw a couple sunlight dolls lately, and i have one on the way from Volks USA in june or so but i was wondering if any of them were bigger?

Also, it would be interesting if they do open up the lottery. my friend in Osaka is going to try one for me and one for someone i know as well as they are different dolls. so if i can get it myself, it might be easier maybe?

    5. @revien she's so adorable! Also I really liked the picture you posted of her on a boy body in your IG stories!

@mx_95 said it on IG already but she's so dreamy gorgeous! :D

    6. @onee-chan-taichou There's been a handful of darker skinned oneoffs, such as the shadow skinned Reisner, and of course Shiro Tachibana and Claude the Beast, but those are all in the darker skin and not Sunlight as far as I'm aware.

@Roterwolkenvogel LOL thank you. Despite it being so tiny on the SDGr I still think "she" would make a super cute ouji/lolita boy <<

    7. yeah i did a deeper search on the computer rather than mobile... i realized that i could buy a sunlight head and try to figure out a good body instead, but i think i wanted to see my guy as a sunlight skin instead of normal, but then again i dont know... i will have to think on it before i get even more tattoo work done for him and i also already ordered jointed hands for him in NS through another company .... wishful thinking i think lol. thanks as well :)

    8. @Roterwolkenvogel - it's ALWAYS nice to see your girl, everywhere and multiple times! <3 Remember I'm always waiting for her : D

    9. Yeah. I can't recall having seen any Sunlight resin SDGou guys... Beast Claude is definitely darker, he was Shadow.

    10. @Holo's Apple Tree Thank you so much for the reply! Yes, that's exactly the card I'm remembering! The one my mom got was hard plastic, like a credit card.
Shame that Sumika LA is closed now. I had wanted to visit there all those years ago.
Did you get the VS/VIP card while you were in Japan? I visited a few different Volks stores in 2013 (including the large one in Akihabara) and I didn't need a card to buy anything when I was there. They even had DWC heads for sale there that were just available to buy, like all the other standard SDs and Dollfie Dreams. :? Have they changed rules more recently?

    11. Well, in an unexpected turn, there is now a small "Overseas" icon appearing on most of the DWC2020 items.
I'm somewhat tempted to buy a head I don't need :sweat

      • x 7
    12. @Wolfie Pie I did get that VS/VIP card while I was living in Japan. The 5x point accrual for cash and 3x point accrual for credit purchases came in very handy when buying dolls and related items, so the membership quickly paid for itself every year. One point was one yen off a future purchase, so it effectively worked out to something like "buy a new large-size Dollfie, then go back and get a Volks stand or small extra outfit for them free." Although it only helps you with the points program, you do not need a card to shop in a Japanese Volks store. (that was the US one.)

The VS/VIP exclusive items are special mail-order ones advertised in Volks News as being exclusive. Often these are doll wigs or ZM glass eyes, but they can sometimes be non-doll things too related to Volks' other product lines. VolksUSA sometimes gets these special items for overseas customers who can't be members, and will call them "Volks News #XX Special Wig", or whatever. Events, lotteries, other mail-in product forms, and in-store products can also be VS/VIP limited, just however Volks decides to market them. They do try to give good exclusive benefits to make the membership feel worth it.

For instance, the Oath of Silver Coin Tokyo Bay Cruises are VS/VIP only, for Japanese residents. This is similar to what Dolpa LA 3 2017 Tea Party was.

To answer your last question, it's probably yes! Volks changes the specific rules for Dolpa events, releases, and other facets of their business every so often. The old "how to Dolpa" and "how to buy Dollfie" guides I used to write went out of date about once a year or so and needed periodic updating.

    13. I'm so in love with RG Williams. but, VIP and lottery. seems unfair to anyone wanting a Williams since the preorder will be over before you can try for the lottery. V should offer the lottery first, give results in time for people to pre-order 2d Commodore. unless they think some will go for both! I wish. I still can't figure out what might be offered internationally or whether Volks USA will join the fray. Exciting! :apresent:
If the preorder takes a year, I'm out. Already gave close to 2yrs to DD 2B. still waiting.

    14. I wouldn't mind the sale being limited to Japan first, if every buyer was a collector. But its frustrating to see the limited dolls go to scalpers. Then the only way to buy something is to pay a huge surcharge to the scalper.

    15. Yeah when I first saw RG Williams was available my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I'm very saddened to not have a chance because I'll never be able to fork over the $4k to bring him home. Ah well, maybe another time! Hopefully at least some collectors manage to score some of these dolls! :D

    19. Congrats @seraphicdolls!

I had a bit of an impulse buy myself, thanks Yahoo Japan... but after ten tries of trying to get him, I finally have SD17 Alain the Lion coming home. ♥️

    20. @seraphicdolls Who is it?? :D

I just placed my first Volks Japan order a few days ago. I've yet to receive a shipping notification. I realize things are probably chaotic there right now, but I also don't know what the normal response time is for Volks to international customers. Does anyone have any experiences to share?

    21. Yes I ordered last week. No shipping notice and no response to my email. I don't know what's happening.

    22. posted on Noppin Japan regarding Japan Post
Similar notes are posted on Hong Kong and Chinese sites:

Thank you for using our service.
This is very bad news for every our clients.
Japan Post announced that they would stop accepting shipment by air (EMS, Air Parcel, Airmail)
to the US from April 24th.
Because more than 50% of our clients are from the US, it is very serious problem for us.
We considered we stopped business for a while until the situation get better.
But we just have decided we keep doing business as long as our clients want to use our service
      even under this difficult circumstances.

They had been accepting packages by today but seems that a lot of packages
have been stuck at Japan Post's warehouse since the end of March.
We believe those package will be shipped back to us as they decided to stop accepting.
For other clients other than the US like Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Germany,
Japan Post are still accepting shipment. But the packages are also stuck at their warehouse.
They could stop accepting soon for the countries they are still accepting.
We think we should not use Japan Post for a while.
So, we have decided to stop accepting orders with Japan Post services to all countries.
Please DO NOT ORDER if you want to ship with Japan Post soon.

If you still want to order, please consider the following:

      1) Use Fedex or UPS:
If you need to receive packages soon, we can use Fedex and UPS.
For small and light packages, shipping charge could be higher than Japan Post.
We also can use DHL if you really need but the rate is higher than Fedex or UPS.

      2) Keep items or packages in our storage until Japan Post start shipping again:
Under this situation, we can keep your items at no extra cost for more than 60 days
until the situation get better. You can keep ordering shopping and auctions.
We recommend this if you are not in hurry.

      Please accept this inconvenience.
If you have any questions regarding shipment, please contact us.

      Best Regards,

      Masamichi Kuge,
      Crescent Trading, Inc.

    23. wow, I thought they were going to use DHL when they started US orders on 5/1. I love DHL. I ordered doll stuff from a different company, and DHL delivered it in 2 days from Japan to the US.

    24. I don't know what Volks is planning. I'm expecting (hoping for) 2B the end of this month. shipping from Cali, but they have to get to US from Japan. very confusing.
It makes sense to contact anyone holding a package for you to make sure it ships in a somewhat timely manner. :chibi crazy world!

    25. Yeah I thought they were using DHL as well. But Crescent trading isn't Volks so here's hoping we'll eventually get shipping notices!

    26. So many pretty dolls <3 ! Congrats on the new acquisitions, I hope everyone's beauties will arrive home safely and without too much delay.

I haven't taken photos of my girls in a long while due to either no time (I'm a cleaner so I still have to work) or when I do have time, the weather is crap and the lighting terrible (and I have to admit my recently acquired yo-SD size twins were demanding attention), but today I finally got around to making a glasses chain and necklace for Komori (F62), which gave me a good excuse to take some pictures of her^^.

    27. @TabletopPhantom @Lautturi
Thank you! <3 I received the order confirmation message, so feeling a bit more at ease now. My new doll is a one-off by Saifa, an artist I don't have yet so I am happy. :D The model is a secret until she arrives, hehe. Want to make sure shipping goes smoothly - I believe parcels are still being accepted into the USA from Japan but I expect delays for sure. I know I have had many other international packages (from Europe and Asia) for my business being stuck in transit and arriving later than expected. Many packages within the USA have also been taking detours and arriving later than usual as well.

      @ShuriTigerH Gorgeous! Love the glasses.

      • x 4
    28. @seraphicdolls congrats! I hope she arrives without hiccups!

@ShuriTigerH she's so gorgeous and those glasses are amazing on her!

I lost out on a Chris painted by Robin's Egg because the seller called off the whole auction (probably cause he was still at the 40k opening bid half an hour before the end) and in my sadness I spent that money on dresses for the girls... And a Christmas Mimi fullset  (17.5k Yen with taxes and proxy fees!)

      Doll tax for the rant:

    29. @seraphicdolls Thank you^^. Ooh, I'm curious to see who you got, I have a thing for one-offs too (my F62 up there is a one-off by Luluco).

@Roterwolkenvogel Thank you! Congrats on the new girl^^. Clytemnestra is beautiful as always, and I like that dress;) Still bummed that the one I found on Y!J didn't come with the headband, but looks like your girl got the whole set, nice^^.

    30. @ShuriTigerH I only just realized our girls are twinning
And yes! Got the headband too!

    31. @Roterwolkenvogel And she looks good in it^^. I just realized which Chris you were talking about whose auction got canceled, he was stunning, here's hoping he'll pop up again some time for another try^^.

      • x 1
    32. @seraphicdolls congratulations! I believe I have an idea who she is, Ive seen her posted with the Saifa make up and the price is really nice. Im happy you were able to get her because it means theres a chance of us to see her put up in her fullset <3 I hope she arrives safely and swiftly to you

@ShuriTigerH think of it as one of those editorials with that kind of lighting. If it means anything, I think both your photography and Komori is beautiful! I never get much free time until its dark too, but those mirrors made for makeup (the ones with lights built in them with lighting options) helped me a lot, plus its a mirror so it reflects the light back to the model too (I use 2, one on each side at a distance)

@Roterwolkenvogel thats a shame about the auction closing. I think it would have gone for a lot higher since I noticed the bidding gets crazy towards the last 10 minutes and all those sniper bids that just extend the auctions lol...

Your group photo is very nice, If its not much trouble, I would love to see more of the model with the black hat and fur coat. My eyes went straight to her, so pretty :daisy

    35. @seraphicdolls, I think I know who you went for and she is gorgeous. :3 I was looking at getting her before I managed to get Alain. The one that got away had to come home instead.

Speaking of, he’s with the shipping service right now. So excited. I can’t believe I’m getting him after all these years.

I’ve also got my first (and probably only) one-off on the way, and she’s K. Mayura. My favourite artist. :3

Also, anyone know if overseas people can put in for the Best Selection lottery yet?

      • x 2
    36. @Roterwolkenvogel Carmen is amazing now that I can see more of her, I would dare say one of the most beautiful Volks dolls Ive seen, now that I can see all the details you put into her. I really love the rose details on her hat with the butterfly on her necklace, its romantic but subtle. Ive looked up the sculpt and I really think its your customization and attention to details that makes her stand out from all the others in that sculpt family. The beauty spot, the nose ring, so many beautiful details.

Not saying Clementine is not as beautiful on her own , but Carmen commands attention :love Definitely one of my favorite dolls.

      Thank you so much :aheartbea

    37. @GreenTeaSlug thanks so much! It really worked out pretty well considering her wardrobe is whatever was left over
She's due to be switched into Musedoll frills for a test run since she's on a Delf body and hence not too fat for them and we'll see how that goes

    38. Thank you all for the congratulations! <3 Before I purchased her, I went on Instagram and dug up photos of her on Volks stream. I must of had them saved on my old computer - I knew I had seen her somewhere before. And just yesterday I managed to find even more pictures of her on twitter. :dance It makes it even easier to visualize her in her full set and with her wig on. I may have to start searching for some other outfits as well - my Suigintou, Lorelei, is on the SDGr body so only some of her wardrobe will work for my new girl.

I heard that perhaps Volks will open up the Dolpa 43 one-off lottery to international customers so I sent them an email asking about this and got:

"Information will be released one after another.
Please wait for the next information disclosure."

Hmm - the suspense! I have been trying for the Belldandy one-offs so this would be a must. My luck isn't so hot so I am hoping that a Belldandy may come up secondhand at some point. We really loved the kitty-eared Belldandy for the 8th Anniversary Fair, but unfortunately it seems it was not meant to be. :kitty1

    39. You all maybe saw the notification -- but the Volks USA web store is back up and running! :dance

    40. Hi everyone. I am 15 yo now, which means I am still at school and doesn't have a source of income. I want sd17 cecile so bad, but my parents disagreed me to buy it even though I said I can spend my own money (well technically my parents gave me that money before, so...). Is there any possible strong reasons to persuade my parents to buy it? Or I should wait for 7 years until I graduate from university and by it on my own... Thank you!

    41. I can understand that for non-doll people seeing the price of a Volks SD17 is alarming. If this would be your first doll, I can see how jumping from $0 to $1500 would raise eyebrows. Not that I'd encourage you to buy a doll you don't want, but if there is a less expensive first doll you like, start there first. Maybe baby steps in price would get you to the point that the price wouldn't scare them as much. It would also give them the chance to see the hobby isn't a passing fancy if you stick with it for a few years.

When I first discovered BJDs I was an adult, but I could not afford one. I waited and saved up for almost five years before feeling financially comfortable enough to buy my first doll.

If you start setting aside money now (or keep the money you've saved) you can wait and see what happens. If you can't buy him now, somebody will sell one second-hand later on and you can be ready with your money to land him then. He's brand new, so you will see him in the Marketplace. If he ends up being super popular, his second hand price will go up. If he ends up being less popular, he'll be the same price or less second-hand. Heck, some people may keep the outfit and wig and just sell the whole doll for less. We don't know yet.

    42. Was optimistic about shipping delays since it seems like perhaps things are slowly, gradually opening up again here in the United States (depending on the state) - but it seems like EMS parcels from Japan are no longer being dispatched to the United States. I think that Dollyteria will be able to hold onto packages (they mention a time period of up to six months), so I am hoping that they are able to hold onto my doll until things open up again. I don't think they offer DHL as an option. I figure it is better that the package is still at the store rather than being stuck in transit, in a sorting facility, etc. I heard that packages that were dispatched shortly before April 24th may experience delays of up to four months. I wouldn't think that EMS would suspend shipments to the United States from Japan for longer than six months, so perhaps I will still be able to receive my doll later this year. :eusa_pray Since Volks USA just re-opened their online store, I am thinking that there may start to be some restrictions lifted.

    43. @Elysiaaa

What Idrisfynn said is super solid advice and I just wanted to add onto it as I started the hobby at your age.

My parent did not have the means to afford something like a doll, nor the understanding as to why I wanted it. I was told that if I wanted something like that I had to save for myself, and thus I did. I got a very small weekly allowance that I saved. I asked relatives and neighbors if I could help with any household work or yard work and put that away. I even got a job at 16 (working Fri-Sun while still attending high school) to save up for them. Now I know that you may not want to do all that, but these are just options that you can think of if you are serious about saving up for Cecil in the future. Honestly, me doing all that work showed my parent how serious I was about this hobby and they turned from firmly being against it to at least semi-supportive. While this is no guarantee-- I do not know your parents -- I think if you are looking to persuade them showing how serious you are about it by putting in the effort is possibly the best option you have. Worst case you end up saving for him all by yourself and you can give yourself a serious pat on the back!

Edit: Also saving birthday and holiday money is also really smart!

    44. @Roterwolkenvogel If you're taking requests I WANNA SEE CASSIE. <3

@seraphicdolls Yeah, I was a little sad Dollyteria wouldn't ship my order with DHL/Fedex unlike Mandarake -- but eh, I've waited longer before and I'm sure I'll survive. XD

@Elysiaaa I too got into the hobby at 15, but only bought my first doll after 6-8 months of looking around to be sure it wasn't just an infatuation. I've seen folks fall out of the hobby after a year or even after just a few months, and as with any large purchase it's a good idea to sleep on it and make decisions when the initial OMG WANT!! feeling fades off a little. Probably hard to do now, but I also played with my friends' dolls and went to a few meetups so I could get an idea of size and what would appeal to me.

Re: saving -- I saved my pocket/birthday money, tutored some kids for extra cash, and got good grades (my parents have always been into reward motivation, but YMMV). Dolls have a way of popping up on the secondhand market even years later, so waiting is definitely an option. Perhaps your parents are reluctant in this uncertain economic climate?

    45. @rainwaltz More Cassie coming up once the new dresses are coming in

@Elysiaaa I too discovered the dolls when I was 14 back in the day and my Mom was absolutely against it at first (the price!) - in the end a few years later she was okay with a cheaper doll than the ones I first wanted and nowadays she collects too and doesn't bat an eyelash at the cost.
Rainwaltz raised some really good points and there's definitely the possibility that a few years down the line you will be able to find him at cost or just slightly more expensive! (which I get sounds horrible rn, waiting sucks)

And as usual, doll tax for long text!

    46. Actually, I already own two bjds, volks mako and another from a Chinese bjd brand. I know I already went too far because I want to study fashion design in university, which costs a lot. I don’t really have the right reason for buying Cecile. Maybe I’ll wait a few weeks to think about it, since it is not releasing until June. Anyways, Thank you!

    47. @seraphicdolls and anyone else who is interested in shipments outbound from Japan, the English Japan Post website is posting updates about restrictions as they are announced. This is where information about EMS is located. The Japanese site notes that local mail may have delays due to efforts to reduce infection risk.

      • x 2
    48. @Elysiaaa Taking a look at the other side - you may never ever be able again to get a Cecile that "cheap" again. (Unless Volks decides to do another preorder, one day.) I'm saying this as someone who always viewed Williams as my unreachable grail doll because those second hand Williams' are so friggin' expensive, even the cheap ones. Along came the 2017 Tokyo Bay Cruise that Volks opened to international guests, too. And the Romantic Glance Williams. For preorder, delivery guaranteed to every participant of the cruise who preordered the doll. I got lucky getting tickets for the cruise and thus, also got lucky getting my Williams for a LOT less than I'd have to pay on the second hand market.

I've seen RG Williams go on Y!A for about twice as much as I paid for him (iirc, I paid 168k yen for the full-set, not including taxes, customs or shipping - I've seen that go for 300k or even 350k yen on Y!A, not including taxes, customs, shipping or any of the fees you have to pay to shopping services like Buyee or Noppin). 176k yen for a full-set SD17 Captain Cecile is a really, really good price. (And, heck, if I had the money I'd totally get that new Williams because 165k yen, duuuude, are you kidding me, that's a STEAL! *lol*)

    49. @Roterwolkenvogel well, the artist has a very distinct style and i’m a big fan of their work! especially on older volks sculpts. some of the volks dolls in their personal collection are absolutely amazing!

      • x 2
    50. Exactly. I was in hesitation because I knew this is such a good chance, but on the other side I was wondering if I will spend too much time on him and not focus on my studies. In addition, it costs A LOT for buying clothes and furnitures... So I'm still wondering. XD

    51. Personally I wouldn't stress. These sculpts are rather popular, and I am willing to bet they will be rereleased at some point in the future. Even though I am usually the first to complain about the nonavailability of Volks dolls outside Japan and USA, I can assure you that you will probably have more opportunities to get him in the future. For example, my graill Volks is Alice, and when they released original Lorina, I was in no position to even dream of entering lottery for her, being a college student and whatnot (lets not even talk about Huis Ten Bosch). But that was a few years ago (2013? 2011?), and Volks rereleased Lorina this year, and this time I was able to enter. I did not win, but to be honest I was only sad for one day - I lived so long without this mold, more waiting won't hurt. I imagine if I lived in Japan or USA I would have even more chances.
Sorry for rambling. Point is - if it is meant to be, it will be. Fingers crossed that you manage to get the money, now or during the next anniversary rereleases ;)

I wanted to ask - did anyone manage to contact Volks Inc lately? Sent them two messages, and no reply since at least two weeks now...

    52. I actually was wondering about the Cecile boy. I am hard eyeballing him because i realized this same feeling when i saw his sculpt is the same one i felt with Belldandy XD So i can't let another one slip away from me :( (shes a grail for a reason lol)

So is there a limited number of dolls are being made or anyone who orders during that time period will be able to get one? Also how much does shipping usually cost for such a big boy to say USA. I honestly never ordered direction from volks for anything so don't get me wrong for being curious.

I mean, it really depends on the secondhand market? I just snagged a Darkness of Ensign Williams (fullset, brand new, clothes unwrapped!) at ¥140k off Y!J, and he was ¥168k new from Volks back in 2009. There’s always opportunities, I think. It may be harder to find Cecile in the future, but definitely not impossible. If you’re in the position to go for it in June then it’s probably the easiest way to obtain Cecile with the preorder. I know I’m going to go for another Williams. :D Can’t resist adding another W if he’s going to be available internationally!

@snowgray Thanks for the link! I was blundering around online earlier trying to find it via mobile and just gave up. :?

    54. @rainwaltz you're going to have a W army! (and we will need a group pic ;))

    55. @Pooki If they do it like with the dolls they released for the 2017 cruise then, yes, everyone who preorders one will get their doll.

    56. I want to pull the trigger on a WS SD, but I’m hesitant on adding a WS to the collection. I’m not sure what to expect even though I know Volks is known for high-quality resin....
