I swear Williams are like potato chips. I really love the faceup on this one too! And how they’ve given him a completely different feel/expression than the Ver. 1.

I hope we’ll get a similar preorder setup internationally! It’s going to be difficult to resist Cecile as well; I love everything about his outfit. His chubby cheeks are still getting me a bit on the SD17 body, but if he’s anything like Cain (who has the same weird angles imo) then the right angles are *REALLY* right and he’ll be even more stunning in person.

 

Yikes!! Dang those silver coin dolls... Will is looking gorgeous as usual. It'd be hard not to get Panda a twin brother if it's both truly a pre-order and open to international. I love his fullset : S

 

I'm hoping the fact that the preorder isn't limited to VS/VIP members is an indication it will be open outside Japan? What's the likelihood on this, do you think? Trying to decide if I should get my hopes up or not.

 

Well they are resuming overseas orders in May. So there is a good chance of it I think.

Ah....tempting but at this stage in life, I cannot keep so many dolls. I was just thinking to myself ....”I should have bought Yo-Midi Williams together with Yo-Midi Reisner” and now Voila!!!!! But it’s for Japan only and I cannot adopt another doll. The big Williams look inviting but he’s big. Let’s see how I control myself. I really can’t afford another doll, it’s time to re-home some of my dolls, nobody to take care of them when I’m gone.

Oh....need to also look at the pricing when they do finally make it available to the International market. I paid $2400 before tax for SD17 Reisner. I might not have that kind of budget now.

So DHL performed the yeetiest of yeets and my Nono arrived after a whopping 37 hours from the time of the shipping notice. Wow.

The only pictures I've taken so far are her box and her disembodied head on my fingers so she'll have to wait for her debut, she doesn't have elastic or an S-hook, and while I do have some spare elastic here I don't have an S-hook so I'll have to go look for something suitable tomorrow so I can try to get her strung so she isn't a head sitting on Ephram's lap, rofl.

 

I do hope they do an international pre-order... Though if they do, that means I'll have to pick which one of the boys I want.

(BOTH would be the ideal answer, of course, but I just can't justify the cost. It would be ridiculous. So, it's going to have to be one or the other... On the one hand, I don't actually *have* a Williams in the crew yet, and he'd make a great Osiris for my Division of Endings. On the other? GROWN UP CECILE. )

And can confirm DHL Express must be yeeting their packages, had one shipped on Monday from Mandarake and it's scheduled for delivery today! (meanwhile regular DHL took two weeks for a package to me from one town over)

I have an EMS package that was mailed the day before the EMS shutdown that is still sitting in Tokyo. I'm not sure what is going to happen with it now. I wish it would get returned to sender so they could use DHL. Is DHL a lot more expensive since it's so much quicker?

 

I found that DHL Express usually is around the same as EMS and on occasion cheaper, at least to Germany!

I do get charged with a small extra handling fee usually (which might be related to customs duties) but in all honesty? I'd say worth it to get the stuff fast and without hassles.

 

It was 9800 yen for my Reisner to ship DHL to America. Normally its around 7000 for EMS so not too much more. Definitely worth the speed! My poor Rio was also shipped EMS the day before the shut down, and I think it will be a while before I welcome her home.

 

@TabletopPhantom I'm getting quoted 10,000 yen to ship about three clothing items to the US. Unless your seller is covering the extra shipping cost it may be worth just waiting...

yes, Japan and S.Korea usually 2-3 days on US east coast. crazy world. you don't want to fuss over 'stuff' but it represents a lot of money. paid months ago in many cases.

I assembled my Nono this morning! My hands hurt so much and it took everything out of me, hah. There's a reason I haven't strung a doll since 2005. XD;;; She was actually fairly well behaved during the process, I just don't have that much upper body strength so all the pulling and yanking and tying and prodding is extremely difficult for me, but I got it in the end. I think one or both of her legs might be a bit loose and I think her arms are on the tight side but I managed to do it with the piece of elastic I had, and I had some KIPS discs so I put them in her arms and between them and the stringing her arms actually do a really good job of holding poses. I just hope the knots I tied her hands/feet on with don't come loose. >_>; She can't stand to save her life but she'll sit fine. The oldskin torso is such a lovely piece of scultping, by the way. Them feets though. XD

In a bit of an oddity, she's BW and her box has stickers to that effect: http://www.iankunx.net/nonobox.jpg Her faceup looks a lot like the Shrine Maiden one that was on Mandarake a while back but that one had a regular box with a shrine maiden end sticker, and this one has the two stickers on the top and end just saying Super Dollfie BW type. Maybe they made extras of the white dolls in case something happened and just sold the extras? Just normally sold oldskin BW standards and I just never knew about it because it was before my time? No idea. XD; Either way, she's a sweet old girl. I pondered changing her eyes but the putty on them is completely fossilized and it's going to take a major undertaking to get that out. And honestly the tacky acrylics do have a lot of that oldschool charm, just like the super basic faceup...

Regardless, I'm glad she's here and back in one piece instead of rattling around a box disassembled and unloved.

 

buyee just gave me the shipping options for my Nono and DHL Express is nearly ¥20,000 Guess I'll be waiting a few months...

 

Oh wow! I can imagine DHL is super busy right now with all these international shipments, since EMS is at a stand still. Was DHL always that expensive? I have a Volks Hasekura 2nd Version wig that I won via japanese auction through Jauce. It maybe a little while longer for them to hold onto it for me at their warehouse, in hopes that EMS will resume shipping.

 

DHL tends to be extremely expensive for things except for media (where it's very similar to EMS). It's just due to how they price things out IIRC. I hope everyone can get their shipments safely though

EDIT: Also! I didn't see a definitive answer for these, but Cecile's product page says that yes, the head is new (different from the SD13 version) and that his right eye is the same as the left (open, same makeup, no scar/scratch). His eyes also have custom small irises!

 

I wonder how they calculate it because my DHL express shipment for Reisner from Japan to USA was 9,800 yen. Seems like a huge disparity for what I would assume is a similarly sized box!

I finally got my hands on an Oldskin WS body on Y!J but if I get a quote like that I guess I'll see it in the summer sometime!

 

@A-Rouleau That's insane! Yukiko's DHL shipping was 6,596 yen. Even with the domestic shipping my shipping bill was like 76 bucks. Yikes. :<

Yeah I have no clue what's up with that. @I<3MySD said in PM that an oldskin body only cost $40 to ship DHL express from the same proxy. I'm not sure what's up with the price :/. I ended up going with seamail (¥3500), hopefully she arrives before 2021

I have read that SDGr boy outfits can fit SD13 bodies. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I picture it would be a snug fit.

 

Haha it's about what I'm used to for overseas doll shipping so I don't mind it at all, especially since it included the shipping amount within Japan. XD

SDGr and SD13 boys are about the same size and can share clothing easily. All the Volks SDGr boy clothing is backwards compatible and the old SD13 boy clothing before SDGr came out fits SDGr perfectly well.

 

@Ian-KunX thank you for that confirmation! I just bought Tyltyl's default outfit for a boy I have on a SD13 body. One of my all time favorite Volks outfits!

 

I finally paid off my Luna so now I have to paid for DHL to get her home. I’m definitely not looking forward to the price.

Considering everything going on...I would expect them to take longer to fix any issues with the site.

IDK if this is a weird question, but I was looking at the 2020 DWC heads and they all seem to have the little "VS/VIP" icon next to the "add to cart" button. Does this mean you have to purchase the 1,100 yen membership(?) card to purchase them?
I remember in uhhhh 2006, when I got a Dollfie Plus from Volks USA, my mom got a membership card in the mail. Is that the same thing as this? I think I have an old letter from them, too. No idea what the login/PW would be any more hrmmm.

 

In Japan, yeah you would have to be a VS/VIP member to purchase the DWC heads. That is the ~1100 yen per year membership that gets you 5x points, a Volks News subscription, and access to exclusive events and items. This membership is limited to Japan residents only. For overseas folks, the rules may differ given how VS/VIP isn't available.

The Tenshi no Sumika LA membership card you got is something different. Once upon a time you had to have that on your person in order to shop in or attend special events at the LA store, and you got a permanent card included with your first purchase. The LA Sumika card isn't recognized by Japanese Volks stores as anything other than an odd curiosity, as I found out. I originally showed it to the clerk because I thought the Japanese side would work the same way as the USA side where you'd need to have a card to shop in the doll section of the store. You do not. The LA card also does nothing at Volks USA any longer; USA's membership program was terminated now that their physical location isn't open to the public anymore.

The Sumika LA card does look nicer than the VS/VIP card though. The latter just has line art of the Volks VS logo on it in two colors, while the LA shop card has a doll photo and the "this is the place your angels are" Sumika logo.

So I just wanted to update everyone on what Volks said to me when I asked if we'd be able to opt into the One-Off/Fullset lotteries, and they gave me a vague, but interesting response. I included the part about how they don't have a official translator though so they are using an automatic translate cause who knows how this impacts their response. I can't translate Japanese so... This could also just mean like...nothing, but hey, figured I'd throw this out there.

It seems like Nono (seamail) is going to arrive before my SD-F-09 option head (EMS). It's still pretty early but the option head hasn't changed from the "Posting/Collection" stage since the 18th.

I'm also a tad curious to hear what Volks is planning lol.

 

Oh, I do hope they let overseas customers enter! I'm not yearning for any of this batch thankfully, but it'd be so exciting for people outside of Japan and North America to finally have a chance! Japan of course gets them in-country all the time, and NA has been spoiled in previous years with one-offs, but if they allow international customers that'll open it up for so many people who never had a chance before and that would be amazing! Fingers crossed!

 

Completely just my opinion, but I don't think there are enough oneoffs being offered to warrant allowing overseas entries? I do think they should allow overseas entrants for the botb lottery though.

as for the VOLKS USA card, mine is actually a normal hard card like the VOLKS VS/VIP card. It does seem that some people got laminated paper ones towards the end of VOLKS USA doing the card thing though as a friend of mine has one of those.

 

Yes, I have my Volks laminated paper card still! I’ve used it as a book mark many times. I’ll hold onto it as a keepsake, since it really has no purpose anymore.

I’m loving the photo’s of everyone’s dolls BTW.
