Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXVI

Jul 2, 2019

    1. I agree, lottery is better than a clickwar given how problematic the website is during high traffic from what I've seen here. I don't think I would stand a chance :sweat

    2. Just a small FYI ... Looks like the Volks International store as photos, prices of the Dolpa 42 clothing items up. You can't buy them but at least everyone can see photos, etc ...

      Edit : Dolpa 42 AE is Jan. 18, 2020

    3. It's not about I wouldn't agree on the pre-paid method. and I certainty don't want clickwar to be their method of purchase.
I work in a bank, there is a method were a company like volks can check if you have enough credit in your card and reserve the amount necessary, without deducting it and need to refund later. They will only need to release it in case of losing the lottery.
I mean if they still want to continue with the pre-paid method to limit their flaky customers. There are always other method more efficient in my opening :sweat.
And for the rest who is entering, good luck :3nodding:

    4. I need help... does anyone know something about this old Volks head? I found out it's a F-08, but no idea which year this might be made - could it be the number above "06" / year 2006? Or could it be much older?
No idea if this F08 is the newer F05 or the F08 which is also a Rio ?_?

    5. This is much older pre 2002/ 2003 (that is when the first headplates showed up msd were the first in 2002 the bigger heads came later)

    6. Uuuuhh thank you @allanieew , this sounds interesting. Now I'm still curious what this 06 means.
I really hope that I can get this girl, currently discussing with a friend who wants to re-home her.

    7. That's a REALLY old head. Is there a year written inside the head? I've seen old Nono heads that looked like this from the outside, that had "1999" written inside. It's definitely older than the heads with headplates, as stated above. As for the "06" on the headcap - could it be that the headcap was swapped at some point? The old F-08 heads I've seen all had a "08" on the headcap. Maybe the original headcap got lost at some point and was replaced, or the seller had multiple old Volks dolls and swapped out the caps by mistake?

    8. @Khell I don‘t own the doll yet, this was just one of the pictures she sent me. She got her about 14 years ago from ebay, Her seller sent her in a Sylvie box, so until now my friend thought it was a Sylvie. I‘m really excited and hope so much our trade will work, so I can get this girl. Then I can search for more infos inside head.

    9. And yes, that's the oldskin equivalent of the newer F-05. It has a much higher forehead than the F-05 as the biggest difference. (OK the F-05 still has a pretty high forehead.) I actually liked it when I had an oldskin F-08 that the forehead was so high, I had her in a wig with bangs and they were never too long lol

    10. I doubt Volks is really preoccupied by people who don't pay the order. They have much more demand than offer. It's logistically really easy for them to run their lottery software a little longer to pick up replacements. Of course, it's annoying to have to put up with unreliable people but the burden it adds on everyone to proceed like now is imo not worth the benefit.
I think the number one reason was to prevent puppet accounts used to bypass the luck requirement. More, it's most likely how resellers proceeded to get more stock. By holding their money, Volks removed this method and now everyone is equal again (well, unless you have a lot of cash flow).

    11. Looks like he's SD-F-89 (scanned page here)
      Very handsome lad.

    12. Sorry if i interrupted on going conversation, but any of you guys thought about putting Jo March on a SD17 body?

I happened got one recently with boy make up (tho im gonna send it to a new make up artist for girl make up) He actually looks surprisingly cute lolz

    13. @xiluoxia , s/he is gorgeous -- congratulations! Is that an SD17 body, though, or could it be an SDGrB or even SD boy? I wouldn't have thought that the SD17 neck would be slim enough for the Jo head. :sweat

@Khell, @Sadomina, that would be my take, too: the headcap is from an old F-06, and somewhere along the way it was substituted for the head's original cap marked "08." I've never bought an oldskin Volks with mismatched numbers on the headcap and head, but from handling all my oldskins over the years, I can see how easy it would be to switch headcaps either accidentally or to replace a lost/broken one.

FWIW, here's a chart of the old-old (pre-headplate) Volks headmolds. I wish I could remember where I found it, but I've had it saved for so many years that I have no idea how to track it to its source -- maybe an issue of Volks News, or one of the Perfect Catalogs, or . . . ???

    16. How likely do you think it will be that Volks releases new SD standard girls in 2020? :DI'd love to own one of them but unfortunately, I'm not in love with any of the current standard sculpts.

    17. It's possible, I suppose, Saki/Coco/Chiyo came out in 2014 and Mel/Mai/Nico came out in 2017, so there's enough of a year gap at this point that we might see new ones late next year. Depends I guess on how popular the current batch is? I'm not in love with them either but who knows.

    18. Thanks! I'm still wondering whether it was originally scanned from a Volks print publication or saved from the Volks website. One of these days I'll find time to sit down and go through the Volks printed materials that I have from the early years.

    19. @Cynthia in FlintHills Thanks a lot for sharing this old print, this is really a gem! :D
Your and Khell's assumption the headcap might be accidentally switched by the first owner seems like a good hint.
Now I need to wait until I have this old girl home (yes! the trade between my friend and me was a success <3), maybe I can find some notes inside her head. She will also include old Volks papers, but I'm not sure if those came with the first seller's Lady Sylvie (since she sent the F-08 in this box) or if they came with the F-08. Maybe they can tell a date/year.

Here are some more pictures she sent me:

    20. @Cynthia in FlintHills SD17 neck is actually quite big for her head lolz, same as SDGr boy body. Tho I’d say SD10’s neck is gonna be a good fit but then the shoulder is gonna be way too narrow for the proportions. After all..... Jo has a big head:XD:

    21. Seeing this picture, i think your girl is not a f-08 but a f-06, quite a rare beauty. ( and thus with the correct headcap)

    22. Seconding what @allanieew said - she doesn't look like an F-08 to me, either. Bit hard to see, though, would be easier with the blank head. In either case, a lovely lady!

    23. Fingers crossed! I adored Saki and Chiyo, but I've been a bit underwhelmed with the current standard molds. I'm loving the direction the newer FCS releases are going in so I'm excited to see the next group.

      • x 2
    24. @allanieew , @Khell Oh? Than this must be the ankle of the picture which made the "06" on the base head to a "08". It looked like an 8 to me at first sight, but the longer I look at this picture, it really could be a 06.
I actually planned to remove her faceup when I get her, so I can share more pictures - hopefully soon :)

    25. Hi all! I was wondering if any of you can help me obtaining the white Volks SD boxes (the ones usually used for FCS and some one offs). I have some of them but they are at my parents home in other city, I need to check if one of those will fit inside my luggage.

      Thank you in advance!

    26. Thirding -- that is definitely not the F-08 face! And now that I go back and look harder at your original back-of-the-head picture, I agree -- the head marking could very well be "06" rather than "08." (Angle, shadow, optical illusion.)

For what it's worth, here's the F-04/old F-06 page on Angelden.net, with clickable images that will be bigger than the little chart: Creating Dreams - Volks FCS - SD and SD13 FCS - Head Molds

    27. Thanks so much for this link to the F-04/06 pictures! This is a really cute girl, I hope that her current faceup can be removed well so I can give her new life. It is a great feeling at the moment when I think of getting this old beauty, feels so magic, after all those years I‘ve been in this hobby.

    28. @ame_hime, that Marie Antoinette dress is unbelievable! XD you should be very proud of your work!

@pris84, we can wave at each other in the pleb line ;) XPasses should definitely be a lottery! Like you, I don’t really mind not having the pass, but it was sooooo frustrating to spend hours trying for it and end up with nothing.

@GreenTeaSlug, I really agree with all of your reasons for prepaid lottery. I’d much rather have to plan my finances around that a bit than have to feel like I’m a lottery with a thousand scammer puppets.

@xiluoxia, what a cutie! Jo is such a great sculpt, boy or girl.

@Sadomina, congrats on your F-O’Mystery! What a piece of history!

I was lucky enough to be able to get to see Rapunzel in person. Apologies that I just have a phone photo! In real life I was having a hard time determining the difference between the new resin and the usual normal color. I regret not bringing a hand or something for comparison.

    29. Anyone knows which angels are now being sold at Tenshi no Sato? not sure if they removed the standard options but any idea about their current stock? thanks!

    30. Does Volks usually promote this type of lottery as frequently as they are for Rapunzel?
I feel like I haven't seen as much promotion for previous dolls compared to Rapunzel.

Sorry, but she'll be my first Volks doll (if I win one) ><
      I was just wondering

    31. @snowgray Will totally wave at you in the pleb line with a bottle of Georgia coffee in one hand and a rice ball in the other! I really hope next time Volks will change the Xpass system. A lottery would be easier on the heart! Heck, if Volks forced people to pick up the pass on the day at Dolpa, then you'd have a very tough time trying to resell it too.

@Meyneth The dolls are usually lottery but I suspect there is quite a push because it's a Disney collaboration. Good luck on your lottery! :)

    32. @snowgray I went to see Rapunzel today too, and I couldn't see any obvious pinkness to the resin. I don't yet have a volks doll though since I want a frankendoll (saki head on a sdgr girl body) and it's hard to get all the pieces together in resin of the same year made. But when I looked at the one offs, and looked back at Rapunzel, she doesn't seem like she has a new resin color.

    33. I have a question and I think you guys could help me! From what I've heard, Lady Oscar body is unique and only she has small chested SD16 body, right? Does anyone have photos of her body without clothes in good resolution and from different angles? Because obviously I can look at sales posts but I'm curious how exactly the body looks. Or comparison with other SD16, that would be too amazing Just for sake of curiousity, since I'm not planning to buy her...

    34. For anyone going to Dolpa, I just clued in but it looks like it's 11 am to 5 pm this year. It starts an hour later than normal ...

    35. Oh, I hope this is the case! I've been wondering when I'll actually have time to sleep during my first week in Japan this trip and that would help a bit:XD:.

Anyway, I was just trying to purchase a Dolpa guidebook for myself and the friend i'm taking with me, and the new Volks international store won't even let me see the guidebook listing when I'm logged into my account (that states that I live overseas). When I log out it's fine, I can add them to my cart and go through the registration process to create a new account. If I log into my account while I have the books in my cart, it takes them out of my cart and gives me an error that says they were removed because they're not available. *_*
Anyone have a workaround that's doesn't involve making a 2nd account? I'd planned on shipping them to my lodgings in Japan anyway so it's not the worst if I have to, but I'd prefer to keep things confined to one account if possible. I'm fine with purchasing them in person but the warnings that they stop selling them online on Dec 6th has me worried that they might not be available in store.

    36. @Astro The Dolpa guidebooks will be available in-store. Volks just stops selling them online to account for order processing and shipping lag time before the event. They're also available at the door day-of the event as a last resort, but you really want to get it in advance if at all possible.

Just make sure you arrive and get in the correct line (Sumika or Dealers) for what you want the most early enough, before they draw the lottery results for the line order. The time is mentioned online or in the guidebook. Even if Dolpa starts at 11 you don't want to get to Big Sight too late!

      • x 1
    37. @Astro You're going? Cool! Hopefully we can bump into each other at Dolpa! I bet you can't add to cart because the system thinks there is not enough time to have it delivered to you. But yes, the guidebooks can be bought at all the Sumika. Yes, It's always worth getting there a bit early if you can but I feel you on trying to change time zones. *_*

@Holo's Apple Tree I think because of Xpass they don't reshuffle the Dealer's line? I didn't have Xpass a couple years ago and they let us stay as we came. But yes, they will reshuffle the Sumika line. Are you going?

    38. Try using a VPN set to Japan?

    39. Thanks all! I just wound up making a new account and having them delivered to my lodging for this trip since while I probably have time to grab guidebooks at Mado on Thursday, my trip schedule is so tight for the first week that I’d be out of luck if Mado was sold out. Better safe than sorry. That said... Volks, I know how much domestic shipping costs! Why is it 800 yen for these pamphlets!

@pris84 hopefully we run into each other! I’m really torn between the Sumika line for Arle or the dealer’s market line as that was initially my main goal? I’m probably not after the most sought after goods, but I’d be gutted if I spent several hours in the Sumika line and didn’t get Arle AND missed out on the chance to shop the dealer’s market. This will be my first Japanese-style Dolpa. How long should I expect to wait in the Sumika line if I go that route? Last I heard you could basically only hope to accomplish the Sumika line or the dealer’s market line in a single Dolpa, but it’s also been about 10 years since I did any research on the matter so maybe it’s changed?
I assume I have 2 chances at Arle (Volks USA got her last time, right?), but it’s be less of a wait and more fun to have her as my portable doll buddy for this trip (Lady Oscar is coming with me if I can get an omukae done at Sato. I keep forgetting to email, hopefully there’s still a time available! But... she’s heavy!).
It’s probably going to be a day of decision after I’ve checked out what some of the vendors have to offer. *_*

    41. @Astro Hooray! I'm glad you got your guidebooks sorted!! One less thing to stress about. As to the lines at Dolpa ... I think if you line up for Arle, it will really depend on your luck on numbers and how they reshuffle the line. In the same way they did LA Dolpa (but it does seem to change), everyone lines up and then Volks will hand out numbers and then by a certain time, they cut it off and do a lottery for the new front of the line. So, if you get a good number, you'll get through the Sumika line quickly and still have some time in the Dealer room. But if not, you could be there for a couple hours and then you'll still have time for the dealers line. I feel like by 2 or 3 pm, you can almost easily walk into the Sumika shop without issue. Just watch for the lines because sometimes Volks might have 2 lines - one for the dolls and one for the rest of the items in the Sumika. I think it will just be one though but ... Volks likes to keep us on our toes. As to the dealer line ... I think there is still lots to buy all day but it depends on what you are after. All the popular DD stuff or the fancy girl dresses are gone so fast! If you don't have an Xpass, then it will be gone. But the boy stuff tends to stick around all day. I think this year, there is a lot of big names missing because they went to iDoll or Doll Show or are doing online stuff. I guess it depends on what you are after. When are you planning on Sato? Dec 21 - 23 is a VIP weekend, so if you want to go, you'll have to email them that you are coming regardless, otherwise just check the schedule and book a time.

    42. @pris84 Correct, they don't reshuffle the dealer ("general admission") line, just the Sumika one. I should've been clearer about that instead of summarizing. I won't be there this time myself, but I went to a bunch of these events in past years while I lived in the area.

@Astro If you have any interest in Arle or Ranko at all and want to try to get the experience of welcoming a doll directly at Dolpa, then you should choose the Sumika line. Choosing this doesn't lock you out of the dealer hall; it just means you'll get into the dealer area later after your Sumika shopping is done. As a result, certain high-profile items (cosplay outfits from Ginger Tea, for instance) will already be sold out. But the dealer market is large and there will still be plenty of eyes, outfits, props, and other things to look at all day long. If you do it the other way around and choose the dealers entry line, you are permanently locked out of Arle / Ranko though. You can always do both areas of Dolpa in a single day, but where you should start is dictated by what you want the most.

Whatever you do, make sure to get a Bingo card from the Volks booth (free) and stay for the Bingo game at the end of the day. It's always the very last thing, but Volks gives away loads of free stuff as prizes - one of the few things at Dolpa you *don't* have to pay extra for, and one of the only places you can get Tenshi dolls.

    43. @pris84 I emailed about Sato a long time ago, I'd just been waffling over doing an omukae or not. I replied directly to the email they sent about the visitor's pass so hopefully I'll get a response soon. I'm going on the 21st! My friend also ordered her visitor's pass to be safe, but I'm curious- she has an expired (as of October I believe?) VIP membership, does anyone know if Sato would let her in on it on the grounds that she renews it? We thought about emailing and asking but the visitor's pass fee is so low we thought it'd be less of a hassle to just buy a second pass for the day just to make sure she got in.

I'm honestly in a complete tossup over Arle vs. dealer stuff, but as much as I admire frilly dresses I don't really have anyone to wear them! I'm mostly in the market for boy clothes too so that's a bit more reassuring. I think I might go through the reshuffling process, and if I get a good number stay in the line, vs. get a bad number (what is a bad number though? I'm assuming past about 150?) and leave for the dealer's area.

    44. @Astro The lottery you're thinking of was the old doll line lottery, run up until a few years back. That is, Dolpa used to have three lines to pick from in the morning, with dolls and Sumika being separate, and the lottery rules also being different. For dolls it was a straight draw out of a hat by your own hand, and if you pulled a 500 or below (out of ~3000ish numbers printed), then you had a decent shot at a doll. The SDs and DDs were all available at the same time, and you could buy 1 each of as many of the dolls as you wanted.

In any case, they don't do that today. For Sumika line, where the dolls are now, there is no particular "good" number. It's an order reshuffle. So, if the line was {1,2,3,4}, then Volks draws "3" to be the new head of the line, it gets reshuffled into {3,4,1,2} and there you go. I guess if you ended up at the end of the line after reshuffle you could go over to the dealers straight away if you really wanted to, but I'm not sure you'd gain much (versus just staying in Sumika first) unless there was literally nothing else you wanted in Sumika other than Arle / Ranko.

      • x 1
    45. @Astro If your friend has a residency card in Japan, then she'll be able to renew her membership. But if she doesn't, they will take the card away. They have become much stricter on those cards. :sweat

If I were you, I'd try for Arle. Not everyone in line will be trying for her and I think it will be hard to judge how many are ahead of you when the reshuffle is done like @Holo's Apple Tree mentioned. There will be a lot of boy stuff afterwards so if you aren't after any big names, then my suggestion is the suimka line. But maybe take a look through the dealer list if anything jumps at you?

    46. Thanks you two! I should have clarified like, what number number of people are after the new head of the line after the reshuffling. So if 74 becomes the new head of the line and I’m 474, I still have an okay shot? Maybe?? I do worry since there’s only 2 DDs and no SDs available this time, so I’m assuming most people in line are going to be gunning for Arle or Ranko (I’d personally just wait until the after event for clothes and accessories? I can’t imagine going to Dolpa and waiting in the Sumika line just for clothes that will likely be available for lotto online or to purchase in-store!). So much has changed and it feels like every few months Volks (understandably) decides to change it up a bit (as a side note, why did the xpasses have to go back to a click war?).
My plans for now are to decide the night before/morning of. Artists have begun posting their stock with the Dolpa 42 tag on twitter but a friend warned me that some don’t update with what they’re bringing until the night before, so I guess I’m doing this on the fly! Arle is one of the few I’m sad I let get away though, so I think the scale is tipping towards her ever so slightly.

@pris84 yes, she still lives there. We just weren’t sure if she’d be refused at the door because the 21st is a VIP-only day and her card is expired by a few months. We thought it was safest to just get the day pass.

    47. Thank you a lot for this photo!! I guess her chest isn't that small as I thought. (gorgeous anyway!!)

    48. It’s pretty small, somewhere kind of comparable to a DD s bust? She has a very slim waist so it makes her chest look bigger than it is IMO. Men’s clothes sit fairly flat on her, and the more layers the less apparent her chest is, as you can see here: Hella on Instagram: “Obligatory Lady Oscar photo dump #superdollfie #スーパードルフィー #volks #bjd #balljointeddoll”. I’ll probably end up undressing her to pack for my trip over the next several days, so if you’d still like photos I’ll try to remember to take some for you!

Edit: She’s not shirtless, but I found some shots where you can see her lack of cleavage: Hella on Instagram: “SHE’S HERE!!! Casual clothes for today because her fullest is overwhelming and her wig and epaulettes need some attention. I half want to…”

      • x 2
    49. Ahhh thank you a lot! Yeah I think that the angle of the previous photo made her chest appear bigger to me : O

She looks really gorgeous in those clothes... That style really fits her. Of course I'd be glad to see the photos, much appreciated! TT As I said, I'm not buying her or anything but I like small-chested girls and I hope Volks will release more of that SD16 in the future!

      Thank you ❤️

    50. I'm just going to be quietly over here dying at the fact that Tori is right in the middle of the header picture for the customize contest in LA Dolpa After Report in the latest Volks News and there's also a picture of *me* holding her while getting my picture taken with Mr. Shigeta and Mikey. *faint*

It'd be nice if the small bust came to FCS. I like Tori's chest size as it is, but more options are always great!

      • x 4
    51. @Astro Ah! That's very cool! Well, I guess it depends if your friend wants to renew the membership or not (I think it's 1,000 yen?)? You can renew it at any of the Sumika/Doll Point/Mado/Sato/Volks shops so it could be renewed before you head to Sato. If that's the case, your friend can just show up to Sato without emailing and just pay the 300 yen for the day (I think that's what it is).

Actually, people do wait in line just for the clothing as I have a couple of friends who sometimes really want the clothing right away and decide that's the place to be. I think if you like the Volks clothing, it's almost a guarantee that you'll get what you want vs the dealer items that may sell our or people are unsure of the quality. This year there are some very cool things like the chair :loveand that pearl white purse :chibi! And some people have multiple of the same doll, so they need to get multiple of the same outfit to do the twin, triple, etc ... and then the after event is need too. As to the dolls .... I think it's really hard to say what the cut off number for dolls is. With SDGr Lucia and Mia, once they reshuffled the line, I think just after the start of Dolpa, Volks will cut it off so that people can't jump from the dealer line to the sumika line and I think it took about 2 - 2 1/2 hours to get through. It seemed that everyone got Mia and Lucia in the morning and once the line re-opened, there were still some girls left because I know people who bought them in the afternoon. And I think that was the same case with the Sailor scouts too because I feel like I remember hearing an announcement, saying that they were still available. Also, I feel like in the past, they have gone down the line and asked people if they want the dolls or not and handed out tickets. When the tickets are gone, so are the dolls. Good luck with your decision, it's a tough one! Maybe see you next Saturday!! :aeyepop:

    52. The pearl white purse (and the book bag!! but mostly the purse! The tiny feet on the bottom! AUGHRG!!!) are killing me and I actively need someone to stand with me and slap the purses out of my hands so that I can focus my funds on Arle (I think I'm gonna do the Sumika hell line :>) and dealer items! I assume the purses will eventually make it to Volks USA so I'm less concerned about them. 2.5 hours doesn't sound as bad as I was expecting! Also if they handed out tickets I could cut my losses and dip if I didn't get a ticket? (Or stay and buy purses, lol)

Does anyone know about how long it usually takes to get a response from Sato? I seem to recall my previous omukae request taking forever to get a response too, but I'm over here rattling in my chains because the longer it goes on the less likely I am to get the spot. I kind of assume the 21st is already taken because it's a VIP day, and I'm under the impression from the response I got last time I sent a request that they only do one a day.
(My friend already booked her visitor's pass. I think we'll both be too busy to go renew it before we hit up Sato, though I guess we could go to the Sumika in Osaka the day before if they're open? A pass is 400 yen though, not a big deal lol.)

    54. Today I got my old beauty, the one which I was not sure if it‘s an old F08 or F06 - all questions are solved now: she is an old F06, the year 1999 carved inside her headcap. I want to change her faceup soon, give her a bath and new strings. But for such an old doll her condition is really great, I‘m so happy my friend was ok with the trade.

      Volks old F-06 / 1999

    55. Winning emails for Rapunzel went out less than 24 hours ago and there’s already 14 listed on Y!J :|

@Sadomina, I can’t wait to see how you style her!

    56. Hello! I can't believe I am finally posting in this thread. My holy grail Suiseiseki is on her way to me, and my cruel husband won't let me open her until Christmas morning . I'm trying to make sure I have everything ready for her, but I'm struggling with the eye size. Most of my other dolls have such tiny eyes, but I love Suiseiseki because of her huge ones!

The previous owner said 20mm was best, but 18mm also worked. I've ordered two pairs of 20mm from Mandarake but now I'm wondering if I should have 18mm as well? Does anyone have any example photos? Thank you!

    58. @I<3MySD congrats!! Honestly, Suiseiseki is so adorable! Please show her when you'll unbox her. About eyes, I think it'll be good to have 18 mm if you like more natural look - at least I have big-eyed Volks doll and he's wearing 18. (But maybe Suiseiseki's eyes are bigger?! :P )

    59. Thank you so much! I'm a bit nervous because she hasn't moved from customs in a few days now. Trying to be patient!

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll absolutely post photos!
I think her eyes are almost as big as a DD, which is insane for a non anime sculpt. I've never seen her in person though so its hard for me to say as well!
