Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXV

Mar 8, 2019

    1. @Lera Very pretty! I like how the background is just blurred enough that you can't really tell how small the doll is in comparison, very artsy!

    2. My SDGr girl only came with the heel feet, and as I have enough girls with flat or tabi feet I like being able to put my Jun T. in all those cool SD16 size shoes and DD shoes.

    3. Thank you so much for your option, Lyrajean! I definitely think the heeled feet is a good addition! I was just afriad it would be hard for me to find shoes that maches the arch and size. But I have been getting good recommendation from people that own the heeled feet! So is the SD16 and DD high heel shoes works on SDGr feet as well? :D

    4. Yes they usually fit.

    5. I think the Dolpa 41 After Event messages should have gone out on the 14th right? Did anyone win anything?

    6. @silver sycle I haven't received a notice or heard anything about Little Brother winners. @St. James mentioned on IG they'd won Bluefairy though.

If not a single person on DoA won Little Brother that's rather sad.

    7. I saw one winner of Frere who couldn't keep him, and yes I did win my chibi version of Kaspar! Not that he looks much like a Johanna, but the cuteness effect is the same as far as I'm concerned. :)

    8. @Cloudedmind Oh ok, I was starting to think I had the wrong date because no one even mentioned anything about being excited about the lottery announcements or something like it. I guess Frere and the Blue bird were really not the most exciting thing for most. - Which is a shame, I think the blue bird is probably the best YoSD in a very long time (it´s really like a baby-Lieselotte) and Frere makes for an adorable girl if you ask me.

@St. James Congrats! The blue bird is very very adorable - if I´d go anywhere near YoSDs I would have definitely tried, I never liked one more than him.

I wonder if we will see more winners soon and it´s just that people didn´t have time to post about it yet. I refuse to believe Frere had that many entries - even in Japan he´s still barely over the original price+tax and prices have been going down recently...
At least he´s cheaper now than what I paid for him, which still wasn't bad price. (It was still less than I´d have paid if I had tried the US lottery, so I´m happy.:XD:)

    9. I won a Frere! I got the email yesterday afternoon. I couldn't get him from the international site, that was such a frustrating experience :XD:

      • x 8
    10. I think Frere and Bluebird are both great sculpts but Tokyo Dolpa was so close on the heels of Kyoto Dolpa and Luna and Lieselotte that I think people were tapped out. I bet they're going to turn into hot commodities a couple years down the road.

    11. I'll have to compare him to my Lieselotte when he arrives. I'm so not into Yos that I haven't even been over to the Yo thread to mention him.
      :sweat

    12. FYI re the new SD bag release...which I ordered while paying for Tea Party stuff...

The bag is good! The shoulder handle is very different, however and does not remove the way the older bags did. You will need to be mindful which way your doll goes in so that you carry it head-up (it may not matter, but if not horizontal, I prefer not to carry my resin peeps upside down...it leads to whining later :D).

I have a photo that I can post as comparison tomorrow; I would do it now, but I need to get some sleep...early AM flight tomorrow...

    13. @ichigo-pan43 Congrats on the win! Do you have any plans for him?

@silver sycle As Kim mentioned Luna and Lies probably whipped some people out. Also, I feel like outside of the Tokyo boys and Oath of silver coin boys Volks female sculpts seem to be more popular. Tyltyl wasn't that popular when he came out either.

    14. Update re the new SD carry bag.

Here’s the photo at last: on the left is one of the older bags, which I estimate that I purchased approximately 2008 or so, maybe 2009 at the latest. Note the removable shoulder strap that hooks at the ends of the bag. On the right is the new bag I received this week. The straps are attached to the bag by a D-ring at the top of the bag, and directly sewn by the handle about 2/3 of the way down. As a result, the bag actually has a “top” and bottom that makes you have to think about which way you put your doll in, especially to utilize the new end handle so that the bag can be carried vertically.

I think the only thing I’m not a fan of is the lack of ability to remove the shoulder strap if you don’t want to use it. However, I totally approve of the vertical carry.

Now, if only they would reissue the hard-shell violin carriers...that’s a grail accessory for me, as I would MUCH prefer to use those for airline travel. I have a feeling I will be trolling eBay to see if I can find a regular violin case and repurposing it....

      • x 5
    15. This new bag is the same as a previous bag release they did a couple years ago (I have it). It’s a really good bag and overall I prefer it. The non-removable strap is a little annoying but the way it is set up is great for airline travel compared to the old strap setup.

    16. Clearly my more-than-a-few-year hiatus on things made me miss when the strap was premiered :D. But I do agree, the top-carry is pretty awesome, especially since a long term my goal is to have all of the larger dolls stored in bags instead of the boxes.

    17. I found these one useful thank boxes! I have one and I think it is working great! It is also an easier way to carry our beloved angels. Also, I notice a few different carrier do offer different carrier bags. Has anyone ever compare any of those?

    18. I won one of the Petit Freres! I’m excited for Etienne to have his own little brother. I think the Andre and Petit Frere sculpts really complement each other. I’m surprised he’s not more popular as well. He makes a beautiful girl as I’ve seen on some Instagram posts. It seems like a versatile sculpt.

      • x 8
    19. Yay! Andre, Tyltyl and Petit Frere are all of a type to my eyes. :love

    20. Congrats to all the winners!! Looking forward to seeing some more cute here! :chibi

For anyone interested, Sophie and Angela came with the optional piece order forms (Japan only). Wigs were not offered (like Lucia and Mia) but you could order extra hands, heel legs and blushed hands. The deadline is January 2020! I'm sure VolksUSA will give people a chance to order them, so lots of time even for those welcoming through LA Dolpa.

      • x 1
    21. That's good to hear on the parts for Sophie. I am hoping to get at least the high heel feet for mine, maybe a different set of hands. WS SDGrG are always a ridiculous mark up on Y!J if they are even available.

    22. Does that mean you got into the Tea Party too? Or did you get your Sophie off Y!J?

    23. @pris84 I think the product page mentioned the form on both the Japanese and the US Dolpa site. I´m betting on that too.
Are you going to order parts for them? I´m really hoping these order forms will allow you to order more than one of each part because I´m sure most owners will want to get Sophie´s heeled legs at least - while some others hope to get them through others.
I have her body but it wasn´t sold with the order form.
Also --- January? For the order form that came with the Atami dolls? Oh man. Why is it so long? All order forms I have seen have been for 3 months after release. My only guess is that this is how long the people who pick the two ladies up at the Tea party will have to order and Volks just said: "well if we make the parts anyway until then, we might as well have all deadlines end there".

    24. @Cloudedmind Thank you! I don't have any specific plans, I think I'll probably leave Frere as-is, he's so cute! :XD: Did anyone enter for him and lose? *o*; I'm hoping that everyone who entered for him was able to win.

      • x 2
    25. Did anyone who received Luna/Liselotte from Volks USA receive a "birthday ring" with the doll?
I've been told by my dolly friends in Korea that the Japan and Korea releases included this fancy ring.
I received my Luna last week and just opened the box today, but I didn't find any ring :/

    26. Unfortunately not. I was hoping Volks USA would release the rings separately at least, since I wanted rings for a bunch of my girls.

      • x 1
    27. Gahhh! This seems a bit unfair.
Oh well. Thank you for confirming<3

      • x 1
    28. @ichigo-pan43 Unfortunately, I entered for him but did not win.

    29. @CMBato I haven't heard and don't know why the releases of those two there would've included them, but they were a promo going on for a while. I suppose they might still be including them as presents in some releases and things. Actually, they might be available at the LA Dolpa this year, now that I think about it.

    30. @pris84 Sadly it was not in the cards this year. An attendee has kindly agreed to get her for me.

    31. @silver sycle I've already ordered parts through Japan. :) Yes, you can order multiple sets. On the Japanese forms there wasn't a limit but I don't know if the USA will hold to those rules. In case you are interested in price .... Hands : H-01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 were 4,000 yen + tax each; Heel legs 18,000 yen + tax each; blushed hands H-01 only are 14,000 yen + tax each. There were no options to order additional flat feet/legs and no options to order wigs. Order deadline is Jan. 31, 2020 not the date that people will receive them. Volks is just giving people a long time to order if they need. The parts ordered through Volks Japan before the cut off date, will likely arrive to their owners before Jan 2020. I suspect, the parts through VolksUSA will get ordered as a bulk order and then shipped to VolksUSA as a whole, where they will get sorted and shipped individually. If I had to guess, I suspect VolksUSA customers will receive their parts in March or April 2020.

@Psycho Sukafu Ah! Well, next time! It was fortunate that your were able to get her though other means at least!

    32. FYI, Nagoya Dolpa is Sunday August 4, 2019 and Dolpa 42 in Tokyo is Saturday December 14, 2019.

    33. In case anyone was interested, the SD list of models Volks is advertising as "currently available" either online or at the store (other than the standard models): Theodore, Date II, Hasekura II, SD Byakuren White Snow ver, SD Shiratori White Snow ver, SD13 Yugiri.

      • x 1
    34. Thank you so much for the information! It is good to check out what is available. But I do wonder how everyone decides which one they would love to bring home! I am pretty sure eveyone do a lot of research and trying to find their perfect doll. Can everyone share their insight? Thank you all for sharing!

    35. A lot of surfing of the various molds on flickr, instagram and similar places. The more you see owner photos and different makeup from the Volks makeups the more you can see the possibility of the mold. At some point the same mold keeps popping out at you and you think WOW love that one, then you look and it's the same old you liked in another photo with totally different makeup. They key is to take your time!!

      • x 4
    36. OMG those outfit "remixes" that Volks posted on their Japanese FB page today are so cute! Anyone know when the white and black outfits will arrive on the Volks USA site? Were those from the Dolpa that was in May?

I'm currently trying to think of a French name to suit Le Petit Frere, maybe Lucas (even though there's the Volks Lucas molds), but I was also thinking the name Atticus since I was in Athens, Greece when I received the lottery notification. He seems like such a sweet, sensitive soul. What do you guys think?

    37. Your girl so beautiful, I'm fall in love with her.>~<

    38. @at11954 I agree with TreeLore - what keeps sticking with you? Is there one sculpt that just always looks good to you, no matter the style you see it in? This can be kind of hard for their new releases, obviously, but...

@TabletopPhantom Those outfits are even more eclectic than usual - I love when they do the mixes like this. :D Do you mean the tunic sets? If so then yes, they were from D41, so they should be available for lottery or sale on Volks USA shortly.

      • x 1
    39. Definitely going to grab those ribbon blouse sets if I can!

Anastasia arrived back from her faceup the day after her extra hands and leg parts arrived so she's nearly complete! Needs eyelashes and I have to dig her clothes out of storage, but here's a quick snap for those interested in seeing a non-default Lady Oscar.

      • x 18
    40. Wow! She looks great @St. James !! It's cool to see something other than the default. Looking forward to seeing more of her! :love

Just for kicks, here is my Lady Oscar in her default. I can't even brave to change out her eyes! My lady is such a spotlight queen! :chibi

    41. We should try to get a photo of them together at the Tea Party!

    42. @St. James Ah! I was going to bring my SD17 Shiro and not Oscar. :( But I'd love to see your lady!

    43. Hiya!

      Its me again!

Time to interupt the current coversation and share my exciment!!!

I finally got my 20th anniversery Luna home and she is absolutely super darn cute!!!

I decided to give her the name Kori

      • x 19
    44. @xiluoxia Love the name Kori. Congrats!

I think we lost the plot in this thread a while ago and we're about to need a new one, so we might as well slap some more photos in here. :XD:

Anastasia is settling back in.
I've discovered that most of her old clothing doesn't fit, as she is no longer as petite as she once was. The SD16 has bigger hips and thighs than you'd think! Love her new proportions, but sad about her new lack of poseability.

      • x 11
    45. Kori is so adorable and congradulation to have her home! :D
      omg

    46. @St. James Anastasia looks fantastic! Really wonderful to see her put together as she is supposed to be, I remember being captivated by her when she was a Miyu (I believe she had a coral necklace in one photo, she was so inspiring to me in the early days of the hobby!), but she looks perfect <3
The SD16 body is about as poseable as the fashion dolls it seems to have been inspired by unfortunately, not a problem for someone like me who just likes to dress their dolls, but I know it is a real frustration for most others. Hopefully it isn't too annoying! Is the smaller bust size significantly different? I am wondering whether to seriously try to hunt an Oscar body down or just go for a reasonably well matching hybrid with Dollshe or Dollstown for a WS head of mine...

      • x 1
    47. @flowergirl I was a little spoiled because as a Miyu she was on a Shinydoll body, so literally any other body is an engineering downgrade.
The small bust makes a big difference to me, though it could have been even flatter and that would have been good for me. I definitely like the more pear-shaped silhouette, and the fact that her shoes finally fit! Going to have to remake her necklaces and rings though.
I will try to make time for a comparison to the older Johanna body.

    48. I really love School A sculpt from Volks and I found myself liking similar sculpt from the differnt company as well. I think there is just some magic about that sculpt that I cannot resist. However, I do admire other dolls as well! I am just curious about what is appealing to others and would like to find out. Thank you so much @TabletopPhantom to share your opinion with me. :D
Thank you so much for sharing with me. I totally agree with you. I am amazed at the whole BJD industry that there are so many molds! A lot of people's creativities and love. I personally really like Williams, Alice, and School A molds. They are just absolutely gorgeous.

    49. I apologize if this type of question isn't allowed, but I'm scouting around for a couple of FCS only heads on the secondhand market and I was wondering how much they usually go for? I know that FCS heads are more expensive than others, and it also depends on their popularity and discontinuity, and I don't really want to overpay. Can anyone give any insight on an approximate price range? Thanks in advance!

    50. @Chamillia It really really depends on so many factors that it is a bit like asking how long is a bit of string? Older heads go for $100-$200 ish whereas new heads in good condition are more in the $300-$700 range depending on skin tone, face-up artist etc etc. Best bet is to search the sold threads part of the marketplace and see if the ones you are looking for have sold recently and for what price. Do you have a specific mold in mind?

Also worth checking Mandarake and Dollyteria, plus Yahoo Japan to see what current pricing is like :)

    51. @Chamillia If you have something particular in mind that'll help narrow, but like flowergirl said there's really a huge range. Age is a big factor due to yellowing, even for currently popular sculpts. Stuff that's been discontinued might be harder to find but not more expensive, depending on what they are. Sunlight/tan and white will be more than normal/fair resin, usually. I've seen older, blank, yellow heads go for under $100 and fancy new popular ones go for over $500, so it really depends.

    52. I've been rather out of pocket lately, but I'm trying to catch up on the thread. In the meantime, here is a photo of my Kondo, a sculpt I just don't see around here much. Where are you fellow Kondo owners? I know you have to exist out there somewhere.

    53. I really want to see a Kondo cosplaying Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.

      • x 5
    54. Oooooh, pretty Kondo. I posted a pic of mine a way back. I might put the Beast outfit - which is so beautifully made, just like the real deal - on my guy when I get a chance.

    55. Oh no! An Angela! The click war sounds impossible, so I want to try getting her at Sato, but I'd be really sad if I spent $100 traveling there to try and get her, only to fail.

    56. At least you could get a nice meal and river walk out of it? And I bet in-person odds would be better even so.

    57. @flowergirl @ekala Thank you both for your feedback :) I think I have a pretty good price range in my head now. I haven't purchased a doll head in a long while and I forgot that they can really be quite expensive without the body :XD:

What?? This is great news!! But also really nerve wrecking as I have no idea how bad this click war will be, I've never tried Volks click wars before, but I will now for sure! I'm really very surprised they will make the girls available on the webstore, I was sure they wouldn't do that. Its a nice surprise :D

    58. I feel like Ive been neglecting my OG doll so I wanted to take some photos to rekindle my love for her. A few pages back @purplepaws mentioned about keeping away from new releases and focusing on what they have and it really made a lot of sense to me, its so easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget what I already have, for me at least lol reminded how much I love Megu and appreciate her. Shes a Volks SDgrG Belle

I had some help from my sister with this photoshoot so it was a bonding experience
      [IMG]

@Peachdolly if anything, it would be worth more because I think I remember that the fullset dolls came with the bear and the outfit sets did not, and also does not come with the wig either. Angela's wig and outfit is amazing though, so I would wait to see them in person before selling, Im keeping my eye out for her wig on the second hand market because it looks so cool!

@Moria_ash I still encourage you to try for the click war, you never know if you dont try and at least you wont have that nagging thought of missing out on a chance. If you are going for it, I really wish you all the luck to get Angela home

@MacaronTea he is handsome! The SDGou men need to make a return, I love how your Kondo looks
I love how the SDGou body looks, more muscular than SD17 but not swole

@St. James I love your Anastasia! I always wanted to see a darker look for Lady Oscar and you have satisfied my curiousity
She looks amazing in that H.Naoto set
I always thought that the SD16 would be as poseable as the SDgrG and SDgrB bodies, so its sad to read that its not.....

    59. @GreenTeaSlug Wow! I love your Megu! She looks very regal, her face looks glowing in the photo! :D
