Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXIX

I've been trying to answer this very question with Chinese/taobao clothing makers. While SD13 size clothes is fairly common to come by, SD10 not so much.

 

My guy is stuck in Violet Poem made for SD13 boys because it's what I could get at Dolpa in LA, but I'm really tired of the baggy look.

 

Bears, at least on their Taobao page offers some of their clothes in SD10 size for girls. But, most of their stuff is loose fitting casual wear.

 

Aristocracy offers a handful of items in SD10 sizing. I haven't bought from them personally but a friend has one of their outfits on their (I think?) SD10 Michele and it looked quite nice!
I think Rocking+Horse used to have some as well, but the last time I ordered from them I waited 3 months and nothing was ever shipped and they never responded to an inquiry, so my service cancelled the order for me. Not sure what happened to them but I hope they're ok?

I've got twin Michaels that would love to not be swimming in their clothes and I'm always looking for shops that sell SD10B clothes for them. If I find others I'll try to remember to send them your way.

Of all the days to reply to a random enquiry I sent on Aug 24th, Volks had to pick lottery results day to get back to me my poor little heart...

 

That is the worst! I remember during the last one they sent out the news emails at the same time. Trying to wipe us all out!

The only reason I purchased a DSLR is so that I can take pictures of dolls. I'm really enjoying the photography aspect and the bonus of having an ideal model. Going to have to pay that doll tax eventually.

@snowleopard Ah poor Theo! I guess he didn't find enough love the first (or second, or third) time around! But here is hoping someone takes him home.

 

I think Theo has been listed as in stock this whole time, hasn't he? I kept getting tempted to buy one just because he was there, but it was really Earnest that I loved so I refrained.

 

Hiiii guys I have a question for proud owners of Michele! I was wondering... Is it possible to make his faceup to change his lips from open to closed? Without teeth? Would it look weird? Maybe you saw some no-teeth Micheles?

 

@St. James I don't think Theo has ever been out of stock on Volks international, and every Volks location I visited in Japan late last year/early this year still had him. Poor little guy. He's really cute though! A friend just got him recently.

@mx_95 With Michele, I think you could paint the teeth the same color as the lips, but I think it might look weird since his teeth are more pronounced than a lot of other Volks dolls with teeth (some of whom even have their teeth painted over in their company faceups). You could try?

 

Perhaps a pic of Theo with a different wig and eyes might sway you? (Though at times I think he’d make a good Hobbit XD)

 

Theo has such a classic look, he reminds me of Lucas or the F28. @beamlette your guy is very handsome! He does look like he could enjoy a second breakfast! Really digging the Samurai Champloo shirt.

 

@St. James Very likely he's never been out of stock but I try hard not to go to the available dolls page so I'm not tempted. But now that I check, I see both Date and Hasekura are still available .....

@mx_95 Hmm ... Can't say I've seen a Michele without teeth. He's got quite the gap so perhaps he'd need to have his lips filled in with epoxy to hide the teeth? If you do ever find pics of Michele without painted teeth, please share them. It would be interesting.

@mx_95 oh wow. Those eyes are amazing when the picture is blown up. Between the lipstick, the makeup, and the hime-cut wig, she reminds me so much of a jorogumo (spider woman demon) just out for a casual stroll.

 

Woah, Date and Hasekura used to be sold out a while ago so I wonder if they did find extra stock? I wonder if it's something that got sent back to the webstore warehouse when Lalaport closed?

 

@I<3MySD Theo is Lucas, but with just a smaller head cap. Daniel Falls has some pictures on their flickr comparing Lucas and Theo, and you can see that the back part of the headcap looks to have been reduced in comparison to Lucas. Personally, I think that's why Theo is still available and Ernest isn't. There's not enough difference between Theo and Lucas other then new resin, and Lucas' are fairly easy to come by for "cheap".

 

Well that sure makes a lot of sense! I was squinting at him earlier thinking he looked VERY similar so I'm glad I'm not insane! I will have to take a look at those comparisons. I can see how that would be deterring for the budget-conscious.

I agree that it is wonderful that new opportunities are opening up for one-off lotteries globally! I also entered for Victorique (and a few others) - has your status changed from application to defeat? Mine is still saying "application." I am certain that I have also been defeated, LOL - but wasn't sure if the status had made the switch yet.

 

Ugh, I was so glad when Hasekura was finally out of stock so I didn't just buy him. *sits on hands*

I haven't shared any pictures of my new-to-me F-58 yet, so here's a quick phone snap of the kid who needs some clothes that are actually his size.

I was super sentimental about Dorian's previous shell as a Kanata, but this face matches his attitude better, I think.
If I had a grown-up version of him it would be Hasekura, which is precisely why I don't need a Hasekura!

 

Volks has had Theo in stock consistently, but it’s the newly restocked Date and Hasekura that tempts me. Not for the sculpts, but they’re tempting me for those SD13 Revival bodies! Wish Volks would just add the SD13 Revival bodies to FCS already, since they discontinued the SD13 boy bodies.

 

@St. James Your F-58 is so cute. I love his "nude" lips. I've been having a bit of a thing lately for barely there lip color.

Random question: does anyone maybe have a Minoru Kamimura head on a Volks SD10 boy body? I'm currently looking to find a fitting head sculpt for the SD10 body but I'm not sure how this particular head would like proportion wise. Minoru Kamimura is only sold with the SDgr body and I can't seem to find any photos of him on a smaller body type

 

I don't have an SD10 boy body, but I do have SD13 boy and SD10 girl. Would you like to see him on either of those? (I'm at work now but I could do some head swaps when I get home.)

It’s funny, I thought he had sold out, back then. It never occurred to me to check for dolls on VolksJapan.

Well, I did it...I bought Theodore. After looking at the pictures of him with Ernest again, and again...I caved. LOL!
I was so lucky to “win” Ernest from the After Event 2 years ago.
So now the two boys will be reunited once more.

OXO. Is there any truth to Volks, opening their one off lotteries to the international crowd? If so, how? I've never seen any info on the volks.jp pages about this. O.O

It was also Dolpa 43 in June that international customers could apply. And then the more recent Kyoto 17 online event. You have to first apply for Volks Global Membership enrollment, which is valid for one year after purchase. So, I am hopeful that there are more one-off events to apply for each year - only time will tell!

 

My old limited Snow White Nono arrived! She ended up being too heavy for Sea Mail so I had to pay like, $230 for DHL To top all of that off, her original cardboard box which was in the auction photos was not included in my box, which was extremely upsetting.

ANYWAYS, the little sassy miss certainly has a strange body! I don't have any early SD13 bodies, but I'm assuming that this is similar? It's kind of half-way between my SD10 and SD13 (circa 2004) bodies. She has the old string-loop system on her hands and feet. She is also definitely oldskin white, while all the reference sites have her listed as having come in normal skin. The faceup is definitely original though, and she came in her original dress with the acrylic case (and the box...if it came! ). I wonder if the reference sites had some different information, or if this gal was some sort of strange trade-in mix up? I am not too familiar with the history of the SD13 body, but I never knew it was offered with the string loop connections! 2000 was pretty early too though, so they could have been experimenting?

@I<3MySD Hoho very interesting indeed! The original SD13 bodies weren't released until the end of 2001 as far as I know, but this may be one of the original jointed SD bodies. I always suspected she was actually white rather than normal though! (I've had a theory for a while that the run was made at the same time as Shrine Maiden Nono and shared the same resin & body type.) Did she have any paperwork with her?

 

No paperwork, but all of the original goods. Unless the paperwork was in the box, which Buyee appears to have discarded (I am very unhappy about this). I wonder if she did have papers if it would have given us more clues!

 

@I<3MySD I have one of the original SD13 bodies, and the upper thigh joint is different on it. I believe that one is an SD body with a jointed torso. I could post pics if you like.

 

Thank you, that would be so helpful! I always thought the jointed SD10 bodies would look more like the suwarriko bodies with the larger, more SD10-looking torso tops, so I was surprised to see this one more resembling the SD13 (especially in the bust area). The more you learn!

 

Yes! For this lottery you needed a Global (GL) membership to participate in the one-off lotteries, and that's only if they keep doing them (I hope they do). If a product lists available to GL it is available to the international crowd. For example, Cinderella was VS/VP only and wasn't available to GL members. Whereas DD Icon, DDS Venus, and DDS Kizuna A.I. were available to GL/VS/VP and required one of those memberships to apply for the lottery.

A friend of mine won one of the one offs, she was super shocked. I wonder where that gorgeous SwD Nana ended up, her faceup was stunning

My doll tax is my still default 1st release Michele. It's this sourpuss expression that made me love the sculpt so I guess it's fitting I can't bring myself to get him repainted.

 

Not yet, Volks will ship out Cinderella around mid Sep. Hopefully, she will be ready to ship by next week.
