Looking at home many suigintou and shinku in that one off line up makes me wonder if that might be a sign that they are already casting for the Best of the Best....

 

I certainly hope that’s the case. Shinku and Suigintou are two of my grail dolls. I will probably only be able to choose one of them though.

Nothing yet about if Oscar/Andre will be available, but they are considering it, I think. They made a post on Facebook but no official confirmation. I think they should be announcing something soon, since the post says to expect something early January?

Please feel free to correct me if I misunderstood anything; my Japanese is not perfect and I'm so thirsty for Oscar that I may have misinterpreted something, ahaha ;;;

 

I've been keeping an eye on this as well - given that the AE is next weekend, I feel sure that they will announce something soon.... been checking the website every day just to be sure I don't miss anything Fingers crossed Volks will let Oscar come to the international market, everyone is salivating for her!

The Eng and other language versions of the AE site still isn't up, though, that's a little worrying to me but they practically just made the announcement, so... they should be available internationally, right? I didn't see the dreaded 海外発送はしません anyway ;;;; Ahhh sorry I just really want to bring Lady Oscar home! Crossing my fingers that everyone else who wants her will be able to win one! The Volks website will be a blood bath come 1/19 for sure, hahaha.

 

Did I understand correctly and the After Event is only up for one day (19th - 20th)? When did it become so short? I didn´t care for the last couple of Dolpas but the last time I participated I think there was at least a week or so for you to enter... (or maybe I´m just remembering it wrong)

I really hope I´m not bothering anyone but I´d like to ask some questions about the After Events
(in case there were changes I´m not aware of and because I don´t remember well..^^II)
1. Do you get a confirmation for your entry or do you just have to hope it got registered?
2. Those who fill out the entry form twice will be excluded from the lottery entirely right?
3. I assume the other outfits (Volks original, not the ones for Oscar or the Sailor Moon girls) will be part of the lottery as well? At least I don´t remember Dolpa clothing being part of the click-war....

Now the specific ones that I have wondered about for a while now... it would be awesome if anyone knew this (maybe from experience or they heard about it somewhere):
4. I know no one knows if/how volks deals with accounts that don´t pay for the items they won since some people seem to have won a lottery after not-paying for another. But what happens to your order if you entered for several items, won all of them and then only choose to pay for some? Is that even possible or would you have to chancel all items if you can´t pay for all?
5. Let´s say I wanted to buy a doll for a friend and entered the lottery through my own account. Would I be able to put in my friend´s address somewhere to have it shipped directly to her or would my only option be to ship it to my place first?

Also, a quick disclaimer:
If someone here wants to enter the After Event and isn´t as of right now registered on the online store
- please try to register a new account as soon as possible. Volks international has made a separate online shop for customers outside of Japan and they didn´t take registrations for a while. That's why they are extremely busy at the moment and a new registration can take up to 5 days to be processed. Old members seem to have to change their password, but that only takes 5 min. However, if you never had an account and plan to enter for the upcoming lottery, don´t delay it until the 19th or your account won´t be activated until after the event has ended.

 

@silver sycle The last couple of lottery-style events were also only open for about a day. They've been doing more direct sales / "click war" style too, so... Based on the info on that page: no you won't get a confirmation, just a message if you win; you're correct, if you fill out more than one you will be disqualified; the regular Volks outfits will be direct selling, not through lottery.

Keep in mind all info is liable to change, especially for web ordering; none of the actual ordering websites are up yet & there's notes everywhere that buying online may be different than in-store. I actually think the delays are due to the new store website, since it's obvious there's been some backend problems with that.

@silver sycle from my experience, the shipping address should match the credit card billing address. This ensures a standard, fast and smooth transaction especially important in click wars.

I am excited for everyone participating in this after event. I hope all of you get the doll you want.

 

I reeeeally hope it's not a click war. I have crappy luck at lotteries, but a click war for Oscar would be a total dumpster fire. Which probably means that it's exactly what Volks will do.

@ekala Thank you so much, this is a great help! I haven´t kept up with the last couple of Lotteries so I guess it´s natural that a few things changed.

@stargazer_i Again, thanks so much! Someone else told me the same: The address on the account and the payment method should be the same. Theoretically, it´s even possible for two people in the same address to get the same doll but they will need separate payment methods - interesting.

I will definitely enter for Oscar and her dress, I just haven´t decided which sets I will try to get in the click war....
Now, I wonder if the things you put in your shopping cart are "safe" for a few minutes or if you should rather buy the popular things separately so you don´t risk them selling before you were able to put everything in your shopping cart. - At least I have only ever gotten one set in click wars and each time it took a while just for it to appear in the shopping cart....*ah volks why do you do this to us...*
That said...I´m thankful for any extra training I receive while dealing with this After Event - I definitely don´t want to mess up if there are click wars for any of the Best of the Best items.

Speaking of Best of the Best:
Volks already started planning for Dolpa 41 on the 28th of April on twitter...
I would love if they announced all winners of the votes at once so I could pick my priorities. Yet, knowing volks they will probably release a few at each upcoming event (*rant* and then surprise me with Rozen Maiden next December after I already lost hope and bought other dolls - Just because they know I will somehow sell a kidney to buy those too*)
Ok let´s not hope they save the most popular dolls for the last round of releases. But now I can´t help beeing excited for April...

@silver sycle Unfortunately for the direct sales, the new shopping system means that nothing will be officially reserved for you until your payment has gone through. That was a big change they noted. Let's hope their servers will be able to deal with the demand now... or that they'll be willing to combine shipments.

And yeah, for the BotB, it's unlikely we'll get any info further in advance than usual. The last two big sets of stuff have been at the December Dolpa (20 & 32 respectively) but that doesn't mean there won't be exciting stuff during the year! The 10th anniversary year (2008) had Bianca & Rose, Tae 2nd & sweet dream, Olivia 2nd, the 4 sisters Yos, and the big standard renewal; the 15th year (2014) had a bunch of tenshi re-releases & SDM Byakuren/Shiratori, Okita romantic glance, Tae & Shizu re-releases, & Yo versions of some standards. And that's not including anything that was really brand new at the time but that was probably still based on requests, like May & Mina in 2014.
Whether whatever they release is something you're interested in, well... that's a different question haha.

 

There's one thing I wish Volks had done a poll for. A poll for past dolls in different skin colors. Because I need a sunlight Williams.

 

@ekala I wasn´t aware of that change, thanks for letting me know! I will try to get the important things first then (and hopefully hear the alarm clock at 3am). I don´t remember seeing a specific time for the sale of the regular items, did they just start at midnight (JST) during recent After Events?
Also, that´s an awesome list you have there, it makes me worried about this anniversary. Don´t forget we also got Lieselotte 3rd and Charlotte 3rd in 2014....it was a great year.
Seeing the prices of the dolls I like on Yahoo...If the demand at least loosely reflects votes I´m in for a pricy year (Rozen Maiden would deliver the death blow though..)

Ooh, there are so many limiteds I'd love to have in sunlight! But I have swapped almost every Volks doll I have onto a different Volks body than what they came with, so a sunlight Amakusa on Yukinojo's body probably isn't on Volk's to do list. XD

I never bought an SD16 girl. Always wanted one, but Oscar's is the first 16 face that called my name.

I've only won 1 doll lottery ever. Never a Volks one. Wonder how they pick them?

 

Ugh, my thirst for Oscar knows no bounds, even if she's WS. If they ever release her in NS, I'm doomed. She and Creamy Mami really make me wish Sailor Moon had been an SD instead of a Dollfie Dream - I need a collection of classic shoujo girls in resin, please.

 

@silver sycle I'm not really sure on times - they're not listed on the older Dolpa sites either, because that was all done through the web store (which has now changed so all the old links are broken). Presumably the time will be on the website once they get that up. Either midnight or start of business JST would be my guess.

@Cloudedmind A sunlight Yukinojo would be the death of me. I'm probably going to cave and pick him up eventually anyways.

@mustbemissa Ahh, I know! I'd love for the SM girls to be SDs. Then maybe they'd be more open to giving us Mamoru and the Shitennou too. Unfortunately, 'twas not to be~ Maybe the Cardcaptor Sakura revitalization with Clear Card will open up CLAMP to collaboration again...?

 

Oh, there are so many Cardcaptor outfits that would be gorgeous! We can only hope.

Also...oh I would have been very tempted to get Usagi and her friends as SDGr or similar, I´m not so fond of their DD designs.
I have been hoping for Sakura ever since they started making classic shojo-heroines into dolls and I really thought they might give us a Card Captor MDD at some point last year. Is the Clear Card anime still running? But regardless, the manga is still being made and there are pop up stores and exhibitions for CCS - so there is still hope. DDs are always hit or miss for me so I wouldn´t mind an SD of Sakura (especially since she´s older in the new series so she could even be a small-bust SDGr *I mean they made Yu Morisawa an SDGr so I think they are just set on making all anime-characters into SD and up *). I imagine any costume they choose to use for her would look amazing...I´d hope they go wild and give us multiple sets since there is just so much cute fashion in that show.
And honestly, without Sakura, their classic old-shojo line just wouldn´t be complete....That said, there ARE other great candidates like an SDGr Kagome and SD17 Inuyasha ....And they have done other "classic" anime like Evangelion before, so I wouldn´t be surprised to see them do Slayers or Cowboy Bebop at some point - ok I think my wishlist just got larger

I was really wondering if the International market would actually get an opportunity to enter because when I asked Volks directly, they couldn't commit to an answer and it sounded as if they hadn't decided to release her Internationally. But glad to know that she is going to be available for lottery Internationally! Hooray! Here is hoping to see many of the Oscar and Andre on DoA!

@pris84 That disclaimer is basically in there to cover the secondary sales when, inevitably, there's some people who don't pay for their lottery doll. But... they have been doing more multiple releases lately (like the Dormitory dolls). So who knows!

 

That was my thought exactly! It was a surprise to see the boys again at Sato! I was also wondering if they also don’t know what to expect from the international market on these 2? Although it’s s popular series it’s an old one and I’m wondering if Volks really isn’t sure on how badly they are wanted internationally? I think Volks understands it’s dome market but I think it’s the international one that they maybe are still figuring out? Good luck to all who enter for them!

@pris84 To be honest, I think Volks was surprised at the turnout for the two of them in general! Thankfully lottery means they can very accurately measure demand and can work with their production & licensing teams on more releases if they have the evidence they'd be able to support it.

Also! The actual website is now up (they're working on the English version still). Oscar & Andre & Oscar's dress can be applied for 1/19 1PM JST - 1/20 midnight JST, and you'll have to give card information at that time. If I'm reading correctly, a hold will be issued for the amount of the doll; winners will be chosen, notified, and charged between 1/29 and 2/1. If you're not selected the hold on the card will be canceled. Each item must be put in for separately. The shop clothes will go on sale at their web store on 1/19 at 11AM JST (with the DD special items following up at noon). There is a notice here as there has been everywhere that items will not be reserved until full payment has been processed.

 

Yes, I think so too. But I am not really surprised that Volks was surprised. I was at Dolpa and this year, they split the Sumika line so you had to choose to go into either the dolls or the clothing & accessories line. I felt like they were trying to make it more difficult for resellers which I can understand and appreciate. Also, they closed the line so that once you were in line and got your items, you couldn't go back again for more. Once everyone in the Sumika lines went through once, then anyone could line up again (for the afternoon) and try for other items. I think that Oscar and Andre did not sell out in the first pass of the line but they did sell out before I could get through the line in the afternoon which was quite early. Oscar's dress also sold out. Interestingly though the Sailor scouts did not sell out and there was still leftovers. I'm sure also that the way licences for brands or characters is also probably handled very differently than it was say 14-15 years ago when the Rozen Maiden's were released. And granted the hobby has grown so much since then both in size and in mindset. Very much an evolution.

 

@pris84 Awesome that you went to this past Dolpa! Sorry to hear that Oscar/Andre sold out before they could get to you in the line though I would've probably cried on the floor lol

 

No worries! I decided to go to the dealer line first so they were not my first priority. I'm happy with my Dolpa day.

Yes, the dealer stuff is drool worthy. Many amazing dealers this year - Cece, Crystal Kitten, Klesis, Channel Toy Box, Ange Rose, and the list goes on. And ... I did manage to snag the last Ange Rose (she had 6 or 8?). I have been a fan of hers since back in 2010 at my first Dolpa and have been lucky enough to get pieces from her over the years. I remember when no one knew her and she had outfits left at the end of the Dolpa back in 2010!! In fact at my first dolpa, I had only enough for one dress - Mugendou or Ange Rose and I took the Mugendou because it was an SD10 dress and Ange Rose had a SDGr dress which I didn't have back then. It was a really hard choice!! Now ... it's a race to get to most of the big dealers. Many of them sell out sooooo fast!! But there are lots of other new talents that have some gems too. Leaving empty handed is tough!

And yes, I took my Genji (face up by SDink) to Dolpa. So heavy but no regrets! Here he is with his new peace hand at Tenshi no Sato.

 

Hellooo sorry to interrupt! But do any of you know what to do when the rubber ring for the s hook in the neck breaks? Yknow, the thing that makes your doll's head be able to rotate smoothly... I have a replacement but I have no idea how to slot it onto the string without restringing the whole doll... any tips will be welcomed x( thank you!

 

If you don't want to restring, what I would do is get a hemastat and clamp that on the elastic under the loop at the top so the elastic doesn't go down the neck. Take off the S hook, and then slide the new kip disc on. Put the S hook back on and then unclamp it.

Volks makes an SD17 V hand now? How unobtainable are they?
I was excited to see an FCS option parts order event coming until I saw the fine print that said Volks USA orders weren't included. Would have been nice to get a few of the hands and outfits directly instead of secondhand.

Hello~ you are not alone! I will go to HTD Kyoto as well (I go to Japan with my friend but she's not interested in doll so we split up for a while)

 

These hands are brand new! At Dolpa 40, if you spent 4,000 yen in the Sumika and then went over to the special Volks booth and showed them your receipt, you got a pair of peace hands in your choice of size (all resin and DD sizes) and colour (normal or white - not sure about sunlight) for free. And then if you took a photo of the hands on your doll, posted it to social media and showed the photo to Volks, you got another pair free. I had a very generous and kind friend give me a pair so I ended up with both left and right, SDGr/SDGou/SD17 peace hands. It's their 20th anniversary so maybe they'll be offering these hands in the future? Crossing fingers!

Hey there! I may be going but there are some family situations that have popped up recently that if not finished, will take priority over Kyoto. There have been a few here on DoA that seem to travel to the event but not sure this year. Did you know that this year there will be an after event at Kyoto Aquarium? No details released yet but hopefully in the next Volks news. It may or may not be available to foreigners. Hope you have a great time!

@fransyung Sorry, I used the wrong words, I meant after party! It's going to be an after party right after Dolpa on the same day at Kyoto Aquarium! Volks said that I guess in the smaller HTD they always had to shut it down early (3pm) and they always felt like they didn't want to so they decided this Kyoto HTD there will be an After Party at Aquarium in Kyoto! No details on cost or how to get in or what not but how cool is that?! The new Volks News should have it.
