Hi I wanted to ask a question if that's okay. I was wondering if anyone thinks an F-61 head would fit and and look good on an SD16 girl body. I want to get a WS head and an SD16 girl body if it would look good. Thank you

 

@Yurikun, I tried my Chiyo head (which is also F61) on an SD16 body, and it fit just fine on the neck. it's workable, though for me I preferred the proportions of the Graffiti girl body for her with the default Chiyo face-up. A more sophisticated face-up and the "softer" SD16 shoulders may make a good difference.

 

Sorry to barge in with a question, especially if it has been answered somewhere I can't find already, but which SD bodies are available for FCS? I just got my FCS SDM and like her so much I'd like to get her a sister

 

@bajib, it looks like SDM will be available again for August Online FCS. And also the SD boys and girls, and I'm assuming the SD13 girls, too

I have a question I hope someone can answer! I'm buying a one off full set from Mandarake. She's an f06 but with half closed eyes. She's not in her original box so there's no information about when and where she was offered. She's clearly old. Very yellow, and the face up looks to be in the 2005ish style. It's not air brushed. I'm very curious about her! Thanks in advance for your help!

 

@sailorchiron Hey! Can you send a link here so we can have a look? Are you mainly concerned about it being legit or otherwise or would you just like to know about her release info? Mandarake is a trusted source, I don't think recasts ever make it to their shelves, if thats whats worrying you. Otherwise, its quite difficult to trace a one-off as far as I know, and someone here can correct me if I'm wrong but some of them don't come with head plates that usually have a date and such.

 

@sailorchiron, based on the picture you posted in the General Discussion thread, I'd say that 2004-2005 or so is a good guess. That looks like a second-generation (or even later) pureskin SD body -- it's definitely not oldskin, and it's not the first-generation pureskin with the "notched" knees, either.

The amount of yellowing isn't necessarily related to her age; you don't know how she was stored and cared for, plus in my experience the earlier runs of pureskin resin are naturally darker than later pureskin.

I do so wish Volks had complete records of all their one-offs! When I got my ancient (2000) one-off F-04 fullset, I sent pictures of her and her artist-signed-inside headcap to VolksUSA, hoping to find out whether she was based on a specific character, but all I got was the very reserved reply, "there is no record of one-off releases, but that appears to be a legitimate Volks doll." Ummmmm, well, yeah, I kinda knew that, since her picture was in the Dolpa 3 brochure . . .

 

Thank you for the info ladies! I'm on my cell right now, I'll post a pic when I'm on my computer. She's legit, she has her head plate. I'm just curious about where she came from. I wish she was in her original box and had a little info. I'm happy to get her, though! I love my old dolls!

Sorry if this was already mentioned but...OMG. Has anyone else seen the latest ALL FOR ONE Charity Auction models for Volks Home Town Dolpa Nagoya 6?! It's two Lieselottes on SDGr bodies and one is normal skin. They're being called Veronica (NS) and Elisse (WS) I have never seen such beautiful girls! I hope they raise a LOT of money for Earthquake relief.

I also hope I can bring home a Lieselotte someday!

There's a line under the bottom of the number to show it's a 6 not a 9 (from what I can see). Sweet Dream Mimi has a different full set outfit, right? It's that pretty white dress? Looking at the profile, Mimi's chin doesn't stick out as much as this girl's does and her jaw shape is a little different. I was looking in the F06/old F09 database and I think the lip shape and jaw shape are a match. Mimi's full set face up is a lot prettier too! I'll be able to check out her number for sure when I get her. She's so interesting looking! I'm really curious about her eye color since in the photo they don't show at all lol. Thank you all so much for helping me out. Doll research is one of my favorite things but I was running into a wall on this one.

And congrats on your new doll! I was looking at your picture and I'm pretty sure she's a SwD Nono. I just got one this year in the Dear SD release and I think they look a lot alike! Especially the eyelids and lip shape. Of course Volks might have made some minor updates to the mold since the early 2000s but here's a picture of mine for comparison. (Sorry the angle is a little different from your picture.) Interestingly the inside of my Nono's head has what I think is a "98" carved in it.

 

I think she looks more like a Nono, now that I see both. I'm kind of waffling on buying her now. I was all set to click the button to buy her! And now I'm like "ugh, idk."

Care to help me out again? What's going on with this girl's wrists? Is this normal for an old SD13 body?

I'm super indecisive. I don't care for that head sculpt (f13) but I have my eye on any of the 3 old skin Rios on the MP right now and am trying to find a way to acquire an old skin body. I was like "let's look for old bodies on Mandarake!" and thought "Oh, maybe this one is old skin" but those wrist joints are crazy.

Rio is one of my favs, and I'd rather buy her than SWD Nono, even though both are lovely.

Would old skin and pure skin match each other at all? *Volks newbie over here*

Happy to help! As for the SD13 body you linked to, someone correct me if I'm wrong but it kind of looks like somebody put oldskin hands, wrist balls and all, on a pureskin body. That's why it looks out of place. Rios are TOO cute! I love them. My sister has an old Rio that I keep trying to steal from her! I think she'd be a lovely choice. I have a very old discontinued oldskin F-07 head on a kind of yellowed pureskin body and it matches quite well in my opinion. So I don't think putting a Rio head on a pureskin body should be a problem. As long as the body has at least some yellowing.

@sailorchiron, one more guess on the partly-Frankenbody . . . because of the length of the neck, there's a chance that it might be an oldskin SD13 (with the oldskin SD10 wrist balls and hands cobbled on, yeah). If it is oldskin and if you could just find a pair of SD13G pureskin OR oldskin -- either would work -- wrist balls, you'd have my all-time favorite body there. I absolutely adore the oldskin SD13's swan neck and graceful balance; my pureskin Liz one-off head is on an oldskin SD13 body, and the match is beautiful. I have plenty of hybrids going the other way, too, and they all work just as well; for instance, my oldskin Nono (avatar pic) is on a pureskin suwarikko body, and I won't even get into the boys, heh.

Plus, going by the upturned toes, those seem to be the high-heel feet on that Mandarake body, and those are a treat all by themselves.

I apologize for going against the prevailing opinions, and maybe my experience is abnormal, but in fact most of my oldskin heads and bodies seem to be a little less prone to yellowing than most of my pureskin from before 2012 or so. (I have one exception, but I'm pretty sure he's a case of oxidized sealant rather than the resin itself changing color.) There's a difference in the texture and translucency or "glow" of the oldskin and pureskin resins, but those aren't the same thing as yellowing.

 

My guess is that it's the SD13 release of the Nono with the switched out hands and wrists like @Cynthia in FlintHills said. The ankles, knees and balls of her thighs look like a newer version than the wrists. The number 13 lines up with the FCS heads :

I believe they have since discontinued this head as well from FCS. It's hard to keep up.

Personally I love those really old Volks dolls with the giant ball joints. I'd love to get an original four sisters with those giant ball joints.

Oh yes, I can't believe the outfits are BtSSB on top of everything! Such perfection! I really hope they stay together too. They compliment each other so well.

I love the older versions of the four sisters so much! Those early faceups have such a unique charm. Haha, too true about the super red waterlines! I hope you find your Kira! And wow! So many good finds on Y!J That oldskin Nono is precious. I could spend hours looking for treasure on there (and sometimes I do!) but it does get me into trouble once in a while.

I love my newer girls like my Lorina, my F-45, and the WS F-60 (Coco) I just ordered this last FCS period. But I also really love the older classics or less popular ones like my Nana, my old F-07, and my Belldandy (I know she's not old but she didn't seem very popular). I had an F-37 years ago that I sold due to a vet bill but I keep thinking how I miss that quirky face. Anyway, I feel like my taste is sometimes all over the place. Anyone else feel like that?

 

Lorina and Coco are some of the most adorable sculpts I've ever seen! I also love Liesellotte and Charlotte. But Rio and SD Nono are two of my favorites. SD13 Nono is cute two, but her old face ups really make it hard to see her beauty! Well, that can be said about ALL old school face ups...

 

I just bought a Rio head on the MP and a yellowed SD13 body on Mandarake! Also a cute outfit. And maybe some eyes. *attempts to look innocent*

 

I agree, Nono13's old faceup doesn't do her justice at all! However, if you look at this cute little face (I think probably a one-off 2008 ish?), she looks incredibly different!

 

Gotta love those old face ups!

I absolutely love Nono 13! I am seriously debating adding a second one to my collection. So true about the older faceup on her though.
Here's my Nono 13! I sanded off her carved eyebrows and Memento Mori did a wonderful job on her faceup!

Ah I saw those girls on my Instagram feed and it made me instantly miss my own Lieselotte, who is currently away from me. I may have to make my girl into a blonde lolita after seeing these gorgeous One For Alls!

 

Gosh your Mytyl is just gorgeous. I've been tossing up whether to get her as I'm starting to see her come up in the marketplaces and my goodness I am swaying. Plus.... 90's pride and prejudice is my favorite haha

And she has carved eyebrows? o_o Wow I didn't notice on Volks photos. Are they carved in or sculpted on? Silly question but it seems many companies sculpt on instead of digging through the resin, just need clarification xD

Also, Nono13 has never been renewed? That's odd. On Angelden it seems she was only available as a standard model. Maybe one-offs were made?

Thank you! I think a Nono 13 is a great choice for the DSD body. She totally does have a plumpy child face! Yes, she actually had eyebrows carved or etched into the resin. Like little lines. Here is her before and after picture. Yeah sculpted on eyebrows seem like they would make more sense visually (Like Unoss?) Either way it does kind of limit the expression she can have so they had to go in my opinion. And I think you're right about her never being renewed. That's a shame really. Although her head was added to FCS as F-11 but now its discontinued from the lineup as of last year. (F-11 didn't have the carved eyebrows.)

Your Percival is gorgeous! His blonde hair highlights his soft eyes. This is one scult/faceup that has me falling in love with bjds all over again.

I don't know if I mis-read something about Tyltyl--does the doll come with an offer to buy different hands for him from Volks?

 

@baby~mermaid Ah, definitely looks so much better with the eyebrows sanded off! I never understood why companies do that sometimes, but oh well xD Good thing its an easy fix. A shame about it being discontinued though, its a lovely headmold

@snowleopard Yup, both dolls come with limited time order forms for different, extra SDGr hand parts but, unfortunately, you need to be in Japan at a sumika to order them and they are time limited. (July 31st) It generally requires a proxy's help.

All of these dolls are gorgeous! Nono and Nono 13 are both on my wish list. Mandarake had a Winter Smile Nono13 full set but I'm a lowly teacher and I couldn't afford her. Or the Creamy Mami full set! I think that's a lovely doll, too.

 

Would an SDGr head fit on an SD body? I have a Mytyl who I love the face but not overly fond of the more mature look of the body (I mainly have Volks SDmidis).

 

I have a SDGr Belle head on a SD girl body and it fits perfectly! Her head is so small that it doesn't fit around the larger SD13 girl neck very well, from what I've seen in pictures.

 

Thanks for that. I'll keep her as is for now but in the future I might change her over.
