Volks Super Dollfie Midi Discussion part 1

Has there ever been a compilation of all the SDM models that were available on VOLKS USA full choice system?
Kind of wondering what was made available previously.

 

So, I don’t own one of these, but I’m wondering how they compare in size to a doll that I do own and—more to the point—whether I could dress her in Midi clothes. What are their chest, waist, and hip measurements? I know that the DDM has smaller measurements than my doll, but this doll seems a little bit bigger and more child-like? DDM is like a preteen whereas these darlings look more like grade schoolers. However, the Volks website is maddeningly devoid of any actual measurements, aside from their 40cm height (my own doll is 41cm tall).

 

Is there anywhere that shows all the SDM headmold sizes in terms of head circumferences? I would like to know to see how they would look relative to my other dolls.

 

Has anyone heard news about when Noa might get a restock for the US site? I've been eyeing her for a while and I think I'd really like to get her when she comes back!

 

@lunar-dream304 Someone above mentioned that Volks usually does big restocks in early summer, June or July, which would most likely be when she will restock. All the event items (including Liselotte and Luna) are also due to arrive in June, so hopefully that would be it!

 

Hey everyone! so in anticipation of dollpa I went on Buyee and got myself my very first volks, f-20 head and sdc body. Does anyone have this kind of hybrid? I'm so scared it won't work out...esp in terms of skin color. If anyone could post pics I would really really appreciate it!

MSD is 8 inches and SD10 and SD13 girls are 9 inches. This is not written in stone is varies a little but that there is a good inch difference in head size. They do make good younger sisters size wise.

If you wanted to put an SD head onto a MSD body, you would have to modify the neck hole much smaller to fit. Maybe check the wiki here to verify the neck circumference of each doll size. Boy SD heads usually also have larger neck holes.

An SD head will look huge on an MSD or SDM body, if you manage to get it to fit at all.

I will never know is a shame i can't do a test - I don't have any of these dolls yet.

 

NO would look much too large!

If you look up dear volks body you might like it. The body is chunkier than the SDM but not as tall as the SD. That body can take SD and SD13 heads. Although they will always seem slightly large.

On the down side it's a hard to get body/doll and only available by lottery once in a blue moon. Here is an old post:

You can't just buy this body. They do come up in the second hand market place from time to time. Not inexpensive though due to rarity.

I cannot apply for the Lottery as I am not in USA ( I live in Europe and Volks have no events here....unfortunately)
But I do love the MSD size better as you can easily take your doll with you everywhere.
My dream is to visit Japan visit Volks shops, second hand shops and buy whatever my eye likes there!

 

@at11954 We usually use 16mm for this size. I've seen 18mm used to great effect as well, but 14mm tends to be a little too small for Volks' MSD size.

 

Hina is my favourite sculpt of the new standard models. If I were to buy one, I hope I'd get the long reddish wig. That colour looks really pretty with her purple eyes. Hina is one of the childlike mini dolls with stylized faces that I might get in the future. How do you think SD midi compares to similar-looking dolls from other companies?

 

Gosh, I hope that Volks USA does another online FCS for the SDM's soon! The last one was for the big dolls, so I'm crossing my fingers. I have my eye on a couple of sculpts and am hoping to not have to try and find a FCS shopping service.

@Allie27 ~ Hina is so cute and I adore her eyes! I only own a MSD (Nasia), but they are extremely similar in size to the SDM. IMHO, Volks minis tend to be more child-like than most other companies' "child-like" minis. Their head/body proportions and thicker, undeveloped bodies make them great as little kids (say, 5-8 years old). I've noticed that a lot of child-like minis have cute young faces but with proportions more like tweens or teens -- smaller heads and slimmer bodies with obvious signs that puberty has started, basically.

IMHO, some similarly child-like dolls would be Dikadoll, Bluefairy, Daydream, and the younger looking Luts Kid Delfs (such as Yeondu and Steen) -- these companies all offer a child-like body option (or at least did at some point).

 

@Dolly Unfortunately FCS isn't super likely - even if we do get an October set it'll probably be SD16/SDGr like it has been the past few years. We probably won't see SDM FCS again until March at the earliest unless they do something special for the anniversary.

 

@ekala ~ thank you so much for the info -- and that link is super helpful! I have an SD16 on my wishlist as well, so I suppose it is actually good news for me if they aren't both offered at the same time. I shall just have to be patient for an SDM FCS.

Does anyone happen to have photos of Noa without bangs, preferably a middle parting?

My birthday is coming up and I'd initially planned on getting her because I've wanted her forever, but now I worry she may not be suited for a bang-less, middle parted wig, which is what I wanted her to wear (I don't really like bangs). Her eyebrows are kind of tiny so I wonder if a middle part would make her look strange too. :/ Decisions decisions.

My friend is looking to get a used Volks SD midi KATAOKA RYOTARO. I’m trying to help her to get some specs on this, but I can’t seem to find anything on him.
Or if I can, it’s all in Japanese.

I’m looking to know if he’s a string doll or has an internal skeleton? What his skin tone is?? How tall is he?? What clothes will fit him??? Stuff like that. Even a size comparison would help to know what clothes to look for.

Does anyone know where I can look for more info on him?? Or can send me some info on him?? I’d really appreciate it.

He is a regular sdm sized doll with SDMB-L-01 leg, so all the sizes are gonna be the same as other sdm boy dolls around 43cm.

I haven't seen any specific measurement released for sdm boys anywhere tho.

He wears 14mm eyes and normal skin color (which is now called fair).

He'll be able to wear any boy volks clothes labeled for sdm, most of the clothes labelled for msd would still fit sdm too as long as they're not too tight for msd.

I love sdm momo but I’m not sure what going on with her mouth. Is it teeth I see or her tongue?

 

I am SO in love with them, and definitely at least need the one on the right. The Boys' Dormitory series if my favorite Volks series.

 

Got the FCS muscled arm. Excited to find out more about new bodies. They are adorable.

 

I'm a fan of Gilbert, reminds me of mini version of Michele and Rigel. But alas... don't have plan for another doll... >_< I might try to get my hands on the set outfit if I see it....

Both of these sculpts really look like adaptations of other sculpts, and I particularly like Eric just from first glance, can't wait to see more images!

I saw a post about Kamimura and Kataoka, anyone know what that was about? Was it just an anniversary or were they hinting at something?

So many people have MSD/SDM but it just doesn't get a lot of attention on DoA for some odd reason~

Aww, they are so precious! Volks makes such sweet childlike minis. I've been wanting to get an SDM for ages, but I'm not so sure about those muscley forearms.

A new body sounds interesting too, I can't wait to see it! Maybe it will have a thigh joint like the SDC boy body. I used to have one of those, and he was such a solid little poser.

 

Does anybody know if the standard SDmidi girls from Volksusa has seams already pre-sanded off? I'm debating if I should order from the international website or the US one and it seems that the standard Volks Mini girls have an option for getting rid of the parting line on Volks' International site.

I have a two MSD sized Volks dolls and I love the Midi body, its so cute and poses well. Would love to get the SD Michelle sculpt in Midi size, it would be adorable on the Midi body! Does Volks take suggestions or do surveys for that kind of thing?

 

From what I understand it is not very likely. However, Volks does produce a lot of FCS midi heads, and some of them sometimes resemble popular SD heads (although not official)

 

It's time! The arrival month of my August FCS order! I got a SDM f-45 in pureskin white.

Just ordered a SDM Momo off of Volks' site. This feels... big. Like I've bought more expensive dolls but my first Volks? I'm really excited.

After spending a day with my Momo, I really love how she's constructed. The limbs don't feel tight but they pose really well. Her hands are super, super easy to change which is amazing! I like how her torso locks in place at a certain angle for extra stability. I just wish I had gotten a different wig.

But that can wait for next time.

 

Thread revival!

Volks USA opened a FCS order window until March 10th and I got a suntan F33 little lady on order. I didn't opt for the seam sanding but the coating apparently means they spray the whole doll in MSC matte for protection?

I am new to ordering directly from Volks so I just assumed this is what they mean.

I am so excited for my first Volks MSD!

 

Yay I also just put in my FCS order, an F45! She will be my third Midi sculpt, I fell in love with the body and face sculpts of Midis and decided the girls could have one more sister She will have L02 legs though so she can stand oh so slightly taller than the other two.

Also the spray they use, yes I am pretty sure it is MSC or something similar. I like the extra UV protection and it’s got a nice matte finish.

Thank you for the information! I know Volks resin has improved in protection against yellowing in their formula a while ( long time ago ) back. I guess I can spray her once she arrives.

Is suntan really dark? It's hard to tell if you haven't seen it in person but owner pics can wash out the suntan color so I am not sure.

 

@Manda_Chan Congratulations! No, Volks Sunlight is really pale compared to many tan resins. It's like... a warm day in the sun haha. But it's beautiful!

 

@kuro thank you! I have a very dark Bambicrony tan and a lighter Corbidoll tan and I love the subltness of Volks Sunlight.

I'm pretty stoked about a brand new doll from the company since I normally buy second hand so this will be an experience ❤️
