Volks NYC Dolpa, June 19-20th, 2010.

Nov 15, 2009

    1. I am sOoOoO BEYOND STOKED for the NYC Dolpa:shudder It's a little rediculous:sweat... But I can't wait to see all my friends again, the limited dolls (soOoO going in for little Alice:D) and the one offs:love... I have a feeling this year is going to be A LOT bigger then before though... Seeing as we haven't had an actual Dolpa in the states in 2 years:sweat

    2. Please do Jola. I will do it with you. I have lost out on over 5 Luna's on the MP not to mention offering over a grand just for her head and still not getting her. I cannot go to NY but I live close to LA.

    3. hey no lobbying for la luna!! we need a REAL release of her not a one event only me thinks!! how about a general lobby for a rerelease?

I guess starting a petition in the general would be the best way to do I don't know how they gather names. I think if we can find that old masha petition it should give some clues to how they did it all.

    4. TreeLore- You are right it is about time she gets re-released. At this point I will do anything to get her.

    5. Ooo Ooooo I am SO up for Luna!

    6. I don't own a single girl doll...but I would get Luna in a heartbeat!!!!

    7. Aw, thank you, Bruce!:) I'm looking forward to seeing you and so many people!

    8. I've just decided to walk into this thread, not thinking it would be possible for me to go, but as it turns out, I might be able too! (Since it's on the weekends and doesn't interfere with my job). w00t! If anyone that lives near the Rochester, NY area has extra space in their car (if they plan on driving), feel free to drop me a line. ^^ (As the only thing I don't have right now is a ride xD )

    9. I am all for it! Petition me up, I know of 4 other people who would sign their names to this petition too!
      -Pandora-

    10. I would sign. I definitely would like to see Luna re-released with another collab outfit with BtSSB.

    11. That's a great idea! Starting a petition will be a good way to get her released at any future event^^ um...stupid question, how many people would need to sign up for a petition? Sorry mods for my off-topic post!!

    12. I would just about die if they released a swd kuuta/tinatsu, although seeing any yos makes me happy =D. I'll keep hoping for my little SwD Tinatsu and maybe go for a SwD white rabbit or little Lorina.

    13. I thought you do the pre-order physically IN PERSON at Dolpa, then you receive the doll later. You don't do pre-order BEFORE the dolpa. The ticket you receive at when you arrive at dolpa and that is what you use to do the pre-order. Isn't that how 受注 always works? So I don't think you get to take the dolls home right there.

2nd Chance: At the Dolls Party!
We all know it happens. Sometimes you’re not interested just seeing an item through a monitor, but then when you see them in person you fall right in love!

For just this kind of situation, we will have a limited number of these items available at the Dolls Party!

^very vague, not sure what this means. Perhaps they have very few dolls on-hand for people to take home but not enough for everybody.

    14. Oh I can't wait to go to this event! Woot. I am bringing my Masha or Kaelin but not both. One doll is enough to look after for me.

I hope you guys get your Luna.

    15. jumping in the thread........ as it turns out, i will be in attendance..... i look forward to meeting everybody i have come to know online....... to find me? i will be the one flailing on the floor......... :)

    16. Yay Miss Ally! I am glad you can come ^_^

Okies, I have a quesion...what is the Beauty Salon? Is that where you meet the doll dr? Or from the looks of this schedule, will there not be a doll dr? Whether or not there will be one will help me decide which girl to bring (SwD Mimi or SD Nono really need to see the doll doctor). :sweat My other girls are in great shape and I might want to bring one of them instead...oh it is so hard to chose!

    17. I am hoping to attend this year. May or may not make it, I have been WAY busy.

    18. This Dolpa is going to be so wonderful!!! :D They just keep getting better and better!! :love

Unless something even better pops up, I'm definitely going to try to pre-order Little Alice and her Turn the Key Set. :chibi I'd love it if they offered Mi-chan and Ta-chan at the workshops!! :aheartbea I've always wanted to do a workshop, but none of the molds offered so far have appealed to me.

This year I'm going to pack light and bring just my little Hana (YoSD Megu). :daisy This will be her first Dolpa and I bet she'll have a ball!!! :chibi My mother will be my guest this year, and I can't wait to introduce her to all of my dolly friends and let her experience the full joys of a real Dolpa!!! :fangirl:

Oh, I keep wondering if this year I will finally win a little Sei or Rei Tenshi of my own!! :love What a dream come true that would be!!! :D

    19. Ohmygosh Lorina is so cute! ^0^ Ack. This Dolpa is gonna kill me! I'm already on planning on doing a FCS, but now I want Lorina too~ I'm going to need to place serious limits on what I can buy there. >.>

    20. I think that makes many of us :(
      I hope they release a Luna >.<
And I want my FCS F16 or an MSD F20(fat chance!!!)
And not to mention my hopes for a rei or a sei :whee:
      -Pandora-

    21. I'm also tempted to get my tan F-01 but I'll doubt I'll be able to get the money for all three of them by Dolpa. -sigh-
I'm hoping for a rei or a sei also <3 so flippin cute~

    22. Ok, so i've never been to Dolpa. LOL I have a few questions that i really would like answers to. So please don't laugh.

      1) Are all the 'lottery' dolls purchases? Or are there some actual give-a-ways?
      2) Is it true that you cannot bring ANY other dolls in, or is it just frowned upon? I mean if someone shows up with a dollshe doll, will they be asked to leave?
      3) Are there other contests outside of dolls?
      4) Are there freebies at Dolpa? For example, twice i've gone to doll shows or cons, and sometimes, they give you a little bag with cool things in it like dolls/clothes/accessories etc.
      5) How does the FCS system work at Dolpa? Do you just walk up? or is there usually a mile-long line that people have been waiting in since dolpa opened?

      Ok, thanx! :D

    23. 1) All the lotteries are purchases. However, Volks gives away sei and rei tenshi dolls at Dolpas-they will pull your number out of a box if you are lucky.

      2) I would not bring a non-Volks doll to the event. This is not exclusive to Volks. You will see this behavior at a lot of Japanese events. In Japan, this is considered rude since the company is going through the trouble of putting on an event. At lolita events it is considered rude to show up in another company's dress. I don't think you will be asked to leave but to a Japanese person you will come off as inconsiderate or rude.

      3) As far as I've seen, there have only been doll customization contests

      4) At the LA Dolpa they had freebies for everyone-usually jewelry. For smaller events, like the SD Workshop we had last fall in LA we did not get freebies but thats because it was more a class than a big event.

      5) FCS will have long lines and wait times. Get in line early if you want to order an FCS.

    24. At past NYC Dolpas, generally after dinner, there has been either a BINGO game or a lottery. Prizes range from postcard sets to Zoukemura eyes, dress sets (which can be for a boy!) to standard-issue or limited dolls - and of course, the treasured Sei-tenshi and Rei-tenshi!

As a matter of courtesy, I would never consider bringing a non-VOLKS doll to a Dolpa. There are likely to be meetups and gatherings at the hotels folks are staying at, and your Dollshes and other dolls would be more than welcome there.

At the NYC Dolpas so far, there has been just one doll customization contest, at Dolpa II. It was a gob of fun, and VOLKS had beautiful trophies - and other prizes - for the winners. At NYC Dolpas I and III, there were not contests.

There have been small gifts from VOLKS and sometimes from FDQ in the past - I consider them a charming bonus. They're not why I come to a Dolpa.

On FCS day, arrive early if you'd like to sign up for the service. You will wait for your turn, and how many FCS orders are taken will depend on how long it takes each person to complete their order. It's a very special experience, and the anticipation and excitement really does fill the air, as people carefully consider all of the heads, bodies, hands and feet on display.

      Hope that helped!

      ~Bruce

    25. Kind of a silly question, but since I plan on ordering a FCS and going to a workshop, how exactly do you pay for these events? (I'm assuming by credit card haha). Do you pay for them right at the Dolpa, or do you sign up before hand? (I think... from what I remember reading a while ago, is that you sign up for the workshop? Forgive me if I'm wrong).
      Thanks!

    26. At the past two NY Dolpas, we bought & paid for workshop tickets and any supplies (heads, bodies, tool kits) during registration. I haven't done FCS, but I'm pretty certain that you pay when you order it, at the event.

Also, I'd suggest taking a look at the website for the Ny Dolpa 2008 just to get an idea of how things were done last time, for anyone that might be wondering about specific events. :)

    27. The workshop last time was part of the Dolpa signup process, like you added a workshop to your order of an entry ticket and any of the various materials you wished to use to participate in the workshop as well. You paid for all of those, including school heads, up front. FCS you signed up for on the day of the Dolpa and paid for there.

I really hope they offer FCS orders on both days. I won't be able to get there until noonish on Saturday, and I desperately want to place an order so no waiting in line early in the morning then for me.

And to reiterate what has been said, Volks staff and the FDQ volunteers will be too polite to throw you out if you come in with a non-Volks doll, but it would be extremely rude of you to do so. This is a Volks party. Sure it means I cannot bring my fave doll, who even happens to be on a Volks body (we won't even start on how he's the only non-Volks doll in his doll family), but he's an artist head and the night is not about celebrating him.

    28. @thesaraghina: Wow! Thanks a lot for that link, it's very useful and answers a lot of my questions. ^__^
I plan on bringing my Volks Mihmi, as she is the only current Volks dolly that I own (Plus I don't want to be seen a rude for bringing other company's dolls). So exciting~
And er, something about the 'Guest' thing I've seen several times but have found no real answer to, When you sign up and list the guest you plan on bringing, do they also have to have a Volks membership, and do you have to pay extra for them, or is it 'free'?

    29. You have to pay for guests and actually say who it is you are bringing when you sign them up, but they do not have to be Volks or FDQ members.

    30. I'm so excited, I already have a list of the cutenesses that I'm bringing! I think I'm going to keep this to all Yo's since they are far more portable.
      -Pandora-

    31. Yay!!! Miss Ally!! I am so glad you are coming! I cannot wait! When are you leaving and by which method are you traveling? JuliDC and I are thinking we will bus up early Saturday. This is going to be such a great time!! I am sure you will have plenty of company to flail with!!! :D

    32. I am hoping to socialize a little more this year than I have in the past. I usually cling to one spot and watch the crowds rather than mingle, but there are so many people I would like to meet and visit with again.

    33. I was wondering, with the exception of workshops and events like FCS ordering, are there other smaller events that go on throughout Dolpa?

    34. i'm going up on Friday morning, and leaving on Monday afternoon......... taking advantage of the trip to NYC.....*flails*
i think i'll be bringing Alice and the White Rabbit....... Sweet Dream Nana will be playing Alice.... and i just won a Sweet Dream YO Rabbit on YJ...... :D

    35. oh dear oh dear. I want it all.

    36. I'm going to assume that they dont offer Sato only heads at NY dollpa, is this correct?

I soo want to go though and get my hands on a cute little yo but i would be traveling into the city both days, and would have Nobody to travel or stay with =/

    37. They have never offered Sato options at NY Dolpa, so it would just be the usual options available at the LA Sumika.

    38. I wonder if the doll doctor will be there.

    39. Yes, the doll doctor will be there. That's what the "SD Beauty Salon" is. ^^

    40. Oh, thank you! I didn't know that's what that was! :)

    41. The last 3 Dolpas I commuted in from Westchester each day. It's really not that bad. ^^; Since we're moving out of Westchester in the near future, I'm going to stay with my Mom in Westchester and commute in each day. I'm not sure if I will drive or take the train, it depends on whether there is still the wonderful free parking a few blocks away in Chelsea. :D

    42. Hooray! I'm going too! :D And yes ... now the magic question, who to bring? I'll definitely be bringing my little Yo Kuuta but I'd like to bring one of my bigger guys.

Good idea about the name tags! I hope I remember to make one .... :|

I'm curious to see what heads will be available for the workshop class. Hmm ...

Looking forward to seeing everyone! :fangirl:

    43. Just out of curiosity.....if one should win one of the pretty new boys from Dolpa 7 would they be here in time for NYC Dolpa??

    44. Boy, I would really like to go too! By the way, I'm Renee, a lurker. Just had to comment on this one because I have been dreaming about going to a Dolpha. I live in Chicago and don't have any bjd friends here at all. It would be so nice to mingle with doll people for a change. But I think one would need a minimum of $3,000 to spend--not including expenses--to have a good time. I am going to wish upon a star to figure out how I could possibly make this dream come true.

    45. *psssst* there are lots of us in chicago! We have a kind of sub-forum at www.chitowndollz.com come over and introduce yourself! We have meetups often so if you need "dolfie friends" that's a good place to look :) We even have a few locals interested in going to NYC so that might be helpful to you :D

    46. Hi Renee,

I don't know if you need quite that much. ^^;;;; You do need to pay to get to NYC and presumably for a place to stay, admission to the Dolpa itself is quite reasonable and includes a catered dinner on Sunday. You will probably need some more money for food.

Dolpas only get really expensive if you're planning and trying to purchase every single thing. I always have a wonderful time at the Dolpas and I've not yet attended a paid class, ordered a FCS, won the chance to buy a One-Off, bought a LE, or even won any of the free giveaways from the lottery/bingo. lol

Most of the classes are taught in such a way that you can watch and listen even if you're not participating in them. And my personal favorite class, was the photography class Pat gave which was free. Being able to order a FCS or buy a LE or One-Off is fun, but what makes the NY Dolpa the most fun is the chance to hang out with other owners in a relaxed setting and for many people the chance to meet with and interact with the staff from Volks (from the Shigetas to the LA Staff)

    47. LOL, I sure hope that's not true because I only plan to bring a few hundred dollars, if that, as spending money. And I plan on having a good time. ;)

    48. They should. I think they said the winners can expect the dolls to be shipped in late May, so they should be here in plenty of time!!!

    49. Unless you request any of the extra Sato-gaeri services. It says that would add another month to the wait time. But you never know.

      - from Okita's page on VolksUSA

    50. I'm considering going. Is there a listing of close by, reasonable cost hotels?

    51. You can go on hotels.com and choose FIT as your landmark, and then a list of hotels pops up that are near FIT. You can choose your price range from there.

    52. So its been posted that the dinner will be on Sunday? Which means the classes will be on Saturday?

      Alex

    53. No, I don't know when the dinner is going to be this year, I just know in at least one of the past years it was on a Sunday. ^^;;;

      I meant more that admission also includes the price of one meal. So that the Dolpa itself is really not all that expensive. Japanese Dolpas currently run you about $26 a person and that only covers one day and no food. ^^;

    54. so excited to get alice! definitely attending dolpa.

    55. Thanx to those who answered my questions :) I've never been, so i know i sound like a complete Noob. LOL So would it probably be Ok if i had a few of my dolls with me, and just kept them put away? Because I might be going to a meet later, and i wouldn't want to have to take the train all the way home to get them, and such. i was only thinking of bringing two other dolls. :) I'd never want to offend anyone... But i'd also like to have them with me for when I go to meets later LOL

    56. Does anyone know if FDQ will be releasing a doll or are the Yo's the only limited dolls for this party? Ive tried looking at all the posts but could not find my answer! Thanks in advance!

    57. Oooh, this means there will be more Alice and Lorina girls around, I'm so happy :) I hope I can get them and the extra dress sets. :D Will the usual Volks retailers get some extras?

Pity I won't be in the States in June to go :( Usually I am, but I'm visiting later this year to help my sister move to college. *trying to stay excited about the latter and forget the former* hehe
