Volks NYC Dolpa, June 19-20th, 2010.

Too bad I doubt I can have $3000 saved up by then! I would love to go, but having no one to room with or travel with makes me so nervous and upset I know I couldn't go alone.

 

And HOW! I know I don't want to spend all that money on a room by myself! I've already contacted Volks for details... Did anybody get a chance to scan one of the flyers?

Well, I figured it out. To be able to save so much, I'd have to save $400 a month. I could likely try it.

 

I'm so excited that Volks hasn't given up on having Dolpas in the USA! Yay!

If I remember correctly it's a lottery to get in, but so far no one has been turned away.

You generally need either a VolksUSA membership (which you get just by buying anything from the VolksUSA site, and they'll send you a membership card in the mail) or a subscription to FDQ. It's often a good idea to have both, since the limited doll will most likely require an FDQ subscription to purchase.



Anyways, I'm totally excited about it being announced so early, and will definitely be saving up to go again this year! I can't wait!

Oh I have a Volks USA card, but my sister doesn't... so would she need one to be able to attend ? We have the same address....

 

In the past, we've been allowed to take one guest. The guest has most of the same privileges as the actual member, but will not be able to buy the limited doll or take any workshop classes, I believe. They can, however, win things in the lottery, and enter for oneoffs.

If you think she'd want to do any of the things that members only can do, then I'd suggest making an order to VolksUSA in her name, and including a note or sending an email to Volks explaining that she needs a membership card too. I think some people with spouses and roommates who wanted their own cards have done this.

 

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can take 1 guest with you

So here is the poster we got. I don't know why Ami is the model or if she is even going to be the doll released. Perhaps, she goes to NY to follow Yukinojo and we a have bizarre love triangle between Yukinojo and Ami and Olivia?

Ahhh I'm so excited...I had SO much fun at the last NY Dolpa and was so sad when this year's was cancelled. Ohh if Ami is one of the dolls I'll be so excited I am going to save up for her and if she's not the release then I'll just get an FCS^^

Oh Volks how you continue to tempt me. I was hoping to be able to finally get to a NY Dolpa but they are putting it right in the same time frame that I might be vacationing in Japan (still working on saving for that). So if I don't go to Japan maybe I will see you at Dolpa.

 

Hmmm, since we're being told the dates so far in advance I might actually be able to save up for it. Now just to convince my buddy to come along.

 

Wow! I'd never considered a NY Dolpa previously since I live on the complete opposite side of the country (and if they ever bothered with LA again it would be so much easier since I have free lodging/low travel cost there... but it seems it will never happen now ;~;) but... with half a year's advanced notice... and the fact that my sister and I want to go to NY to check out schools next summer... oh my gosh... I can hardly believe it but it just might be possible. I'd reeeeeally like to go and meet some members (and enjoy the dolls !)... I've only ever met one other doll owner ever.

please, I also have an excess of $$ that could also be used on silly stuff like food and shelter, so please, please, please, Sato heads for FCS and Sunlight skin, gah. Oh, and make the special a SWD Nana, right after I click Send on my Paypal for the Dolpa 22 girl who is making me lose sleep and alienating all my dollie friends because the only words I can say are "Sweet Dreams Nana..." and then she probably won't even get here in time to go to Dolpa.

PS: Volks, if you could add F-38 to the FCS lineup for that day, I will need to sell a kidney and maybe half my liver on the black market to add to the damage... I really wasn't using them anyway, I swear!
OH OH OH, and make both School Head C and D the school heads so I now have to pay for my boyfriend to go to Dolpa too just to take the stupid class so I can have both of them and by that point I would be taking untested pharmaceutical drugs for shady research companies and this coupled with my lack of kidneys gets me REALLY sick, but as long as I don't tell anyone I did this they could just, you know, call Doctor House in to fix me and by GOD it will be a win/win situation just as long as I can get health insurance!

I LOVE Dolpa! It is a highlight of my year and I was really bummed when it was cancelled last year. It sounds like Volk is finally giving us the notice that many people (especially those on the west coast) have been asking for. Volks is just such a fantastic company and truly go the extra mile for their customers! I cannot wait to see all the friends I made at the last NYC Dolpa!

 

Wow, three pages of discussion and all we actually have are dates! As this event is six months away and there's no more news, I'm going to lock this up. As soon as there is more news and the event is a bit closer, please feel free to PM a mod to open up the thread again. Thanks!

 

Um, do we know the location of this event? I mean, is it actually IN New York City, or just in the state, or what? Trying to figure out if it's in the realm of possibility for me to go.

Question about the membership cards: I heard from one person that they thought that once you got one, it didn't expire and would be good for the duration. I ask because while doing some belated organizing, I found a package of things I'd ordered from Volks USA about 3 years ago, and there was a membership card in there.

As NabeeRain said, it's held in one of the big halls at FIT, right in Manhattan, at 7th Ave & 27th St. It's very easy to get to, and there's a train stop right at the corner.

 

yes, take the train and NOT a cab. do not ever take a cab in NYC unless you have lots of money to blow

 

hey, for FDQ "exclusives" do you have to have some sort of membership or something? Can anybody go ir is there something other than a Volks membership card that you need?

 

I think, now don't hold me to this, but I think that you can just be a Volks member to go, but that you have to be subscribed to FDQ to get the limited doll. At least, that is what I have been told by those who have participated in NYC FDQ Dolpa before. I might as well start my subscription now lol. This is my first "in-person" dolpa and I want to be able to get the limited if I fall in love with him/her.

 

For the 2008 Dolpa, you needed either a VolksUSA membership or an FDQ subscription to attend, and you needed an FDQ subscription to buy the limited FDQ doll. Though for the special limiteds, the 4 Sisters Yos, you needed a Volks membership rather than the FDQ subscription to apply for them. I imagine it'll be the same way this time. Since the main limited is marketed through FDQ, they require a subscription to be able to purchase it.

Heehehe, no problem! ;D I've been dying to talk about dolpa again, ever since the thread was originally closed. It'll be my third NY Dolpa, and I'm sure it'll be really exciting still! It's always great to get together with friends from all over the country. ^_^

 

The magazine subscription is only around $36. I think it's worth it. ^_^ They include some BJD stuff in there, too. I ended up renewing my subscription last year even though we didn't need it. I need to see when that expires.

I bought my subscription! I adore fashion dolls as well as ABJD ( my Barbies). This is so exciting! I already have enough for the plane fair and hotel saved up. I was going to do a FCS, but I may hold off as the only FCS dolls I want right now are Sato only. I am sure I will be able to save up enough in time for another dollie
