Volks NYC Dolpa, June 19-20th, 2010.

Nov 15, 2009

    1. Personally I'm glad the limiteds are YoSDs. Now I won't be tempted by something I can't afford! But I can see how it's a huge disappointment for people who actually wanted to buy a limited there :[ There's still one-offs at least, right?

    2. EDIT: Please see posts below ^_^

    3. Yay! I can bring my sister after all!!!!

    4. Hmmm... I was kind of looking forward to a One-off, but not the auction type. I wonder if the "Memorial One-offs" definitely means the auction type? And have they had multiple ones of those previously?

I'm kind of hoping that they don't have any awesome One-offs... That means I won't feel bad about possibly trying for the current Okita. XD

    5. I'm really excited about the yosd's so I am hoping that I will be able to go. I would love to bring home a White Rabbit! Any word yet on if there will be an FDQ limited?

    6. According to FDQs event page, there will be an FDQ exclusive.

    7. "Memorial One-Off Models" simply means one-offs. I think each "batch" of one-offs is intended to be a "memorial" for that event. It's odd phrasing but that's Japan for you XD.

I don't think the NY Dolpa is in the cards for me this year (looking to take a trip to Japan in October!) but I am happy that there's a better chance of getting Alice's Turn the Key set. Must have alternate hands for my poor Snow-White Yuh!

    8. Wow, I'm glad they've put up information so quickly! :D I also think it's really lovely and sweet of Volks to be offering dolls not otherwise available outside of Japan, as well as their special limiteds from the owner's event. I might not be getting any of them, but it's a really nice thing to do. ^^ Also, I'm with brighnasa in thinking that there will still be an FDQ limited. They are sponsoring the event afterall!

And I'm guessing that "autograph & talk session about Another Yourself 2" means we'll get to buy the book? I hope so, because I'd really like one! :)

    9. Ooooo! I am with you on that one!!!!

    10. Pardon me whilst I swoon.... :o

In other words... SQUEEEEE!!! :D Little Alice!!! :aheartbea Little Lorina!!! :aheartbea Alice's Turn the Key set!!! :aheartbea Weeeee!!! :fangirl:

      I'm ok... I'm ok... :sweat

Oh, I'm so happy that we'll all get a chance to own such adorable Yos!!! :chibi And we'll even be able to pre-order them! :o Volks keeps making the NYC Dolpa better and better every year!!! :cheer I can't wait for even more information! :dance

      I love you, Volks!!! :D

    11. Kim, don't rest easy on the apparent Lack-of-Tsukasa yet... after all, we still haven't seen the one-offs. Nyohoho. Yes, it is usually just SD16 Madokas in FDQ special gear for the NY one-offs, but the Volks Faeries have not yet had the last word. Someday your prince may come!

Oh yes yes yes pleeze! :dance Or, at least, a chance to buy a ticket for a lottery chance to buy another entry ticket for a chance to buy the book. I'm ready to jump through them hoops. Have been waiting for this!

Dolly doctor! I guess 'salon' sounds less mad-scientisty.
      Bring your badly-strung, weak-kneed, crooked-hipped, non-sitting problem cases there.

    12. I want n Ebony Tsukasa in motorcycle gear!!!! LOL Wishful thinking!

    13. I'd settle for just the gear! :>

    14. *gurgle* [IMG]

    15. He's gonna happen someday, after all, I finally have my Michele. But thanks to my phenomenally bad luck with these things, I know a one off drawing will lead to grey hair #5 and me cursing the gods. At least they got rid of the actual bingo game for the door prizes. That was sheer torture.

I'm interested in what the FDQ exclusive will be if there is one. They've run the gamut - SD16 fierce ladies, googoo SD girls, and big elven boys. I wonder what direction they're going to go in.

    16. They all look so beautiful~
I hope to see more pictures, can't wait!
      If only they released Luna >_<;;

    17. I like the sound of the Another You book too. I want the naughty Mr. Enku's autograph. And All the faceup artists that are there, and The Prez... well all of them. LOL.

I'm glad we are getting a chance for the Special Owners Dolls. It's class of them to offer us something so special and limited. Sad really when so many people don't get that.

    18. Wait, what are the "Special Owners" dolls? I must've missed that somewhere... *noob*

    19. I agree about the book and dolls! First, I really want the book and will love having it autographed if I get the chance. Secondly, as for the dolls, I think it was very cool when they did it with the 4 sisters Yo's and I love that they are doing it with the Alice Yo's. I think it is a very nice gesture to offer these dolls to us.

I wonder if we will get to see what the limited FDQ doll is before registration? I would like to know just incase it is something I can not live without lol.

    20. Volks holds events just for owners of SD. I think you have to be part of their "club" in Japan. The Wonderland YO-SDs came from the SD Owners Appreciation Fair in Kyoto Grand Prince Hotel

    21. So agree!! I am getting bored of waiting for luna....I wish there was someway to ask someone in the know in volks if she will be released again you know....

Yeh I was going to go for sure for luna but now! I really dont need yo's.

    22. Oh!! I'm so glad I reserved my room for Dolpa! Not only is this my first Dolpa but Little Alice and Little Lorina too~ :aheartbea

Also does anybody know if in previous Dolpas, if the guests were allowed to take the workshop classes?

    23. How do you become a member of the Volks USA?

    24. WOW! I just love Volks! I love their new Yos and the Alice in Wonderland theme. I am on the fence whether I will try for any of the dolls though. I already have 3 Yos and they are not really the focus of my collection. I wonder if one would still be able to buy the Alice Turn Key Set without having to buy Alice or Lorrina? I hope so. I would however love to get my hands on either Alice or Lorrin's dress and wigs. Hopefully someone will just want the doll...

As for the FDQ exclusive I would not lose hope yet! There is a very good possibility it could be anything or anyone! I can only wonder what Pat has up her sleeves this year. Last year it was an SD13 Madoka, then an elvish SD13 boy, then an SD16 Diva, and before that a sweet faced SD13 Girl. I am hoping for a Luna. She is just too cute! Last time I went I did not buy a doll but the whole event is not really about buying a doll but rather meeting other fans and actually getting face time with the president of the company. They also give away tons of free stuff (last year I won a dress set). I cannot adequately express how much bigger this event is than the dolls on sale. I guarantee that once at dolpa the dolls on sale will pale in comparison to how special Volks makes its USA fans feel. The experience is worth it!

    25. Wow maybe we can get together at Hotel and have a little party? :)

    26. Don't think I'm interested in the YoSDs as I got Sara before....and that size is not the focus size of my dolls. Maybe the FDQ exclusive or a FCS doll will need to come home....LOL. So worth going even if I don't buy a doll. ;)

Bought my plane tickets today....going....Dolpa or no Dolpa!
      .

    27. All you have to do is buy something from VolksUSA. They usually send you a membership card with your first purchase but if you didn't get one or are unsure, you can always email them to ask. Their customer service is excellent!

    28. I feel pretty certain there will be one. And with that list of dolls past maybe it will be a pretty SD boy? *crosses fingers, but not too much* XD

:) Maybe we can. If we're not too exhausted from all the excitement. I'm not sure I'll have much energy to party. :sweat

    29. Aw, the Yos are coming! I don't need them, but they really are adorable in person. White Rabbit I especially liked a lot better than in pictures. However... the girls dress set... *drool*
I'm personally hoping for an Alice in Wonderland themed costume contest. They had so many wonderful entries the last time. I'm surprised they haven't done it again.

    30. I am so excited! And thankful I have time to save, Alice is adorable and the SD White rabbit is wonderful. Plus who knows what the FDQ exclusive will be.
I am so glad Volks has posted all the info

    31. Really excited they are offering Lorina! I will be getting her for sure :)

    32. For the SD Owners Appreciation Fair at Tokyo Disneyland and the Kobe Owners Appreciation Even cruise, Volks USA members were invited. Due to logistics, Volks USA members were not included with the event that happened last weekend in Kyoto. I'm guessing thats why the yos are being offered for the NY Dolpa.

    33. Yay I'm content. I was kind of wanting new Yo'sd but I don't really like any of the AIW ones. Which leaves money for one-offs!!! Maybe a Luna or a Yugiri? :whee:
      -Pandora-

    34. Cage wrestling hmmm? You could video this and sell tickets to the screening! LOL! I'm channeling a bit of my birthday twin here, the great Ray Harryhausen, master of stop motion cinematography. :D

Ooooh and pastrami....I'm totally on board for this! I usually get mine from Carnegie Deli, but love Katz's too! Yummy! And maybe a chocolate eggcream with it...you wanna keep your strength up during Dolpa right?!

      Juli DC :D

    35. Juli, you're on! I can only ever finish 1/2 of those cow sandwiches by myself, will need reinforcements.

WWE Smackdown has nothin' on my doll collection. When it comes time to decide who gets to go to New York in the summer once again, & finally see everybody that we never get to see on the west coast... it's no-holds-barred... (Where is Ray Harryhausen when you need him?)

      Last time I brought a Shiro and a Tsukasa and a Rei-Tenshi, and they were quite enough of an armful. Any other times of the year I fly east to visit my family, I never bother to bring any dolls - especially when staying with big sister on W78th St., because her apartment is teensy and I do not trust her enormous cat - but for a Volks event, I do extra bicep-curls in preparation for the schlepping! I need to make a remind-self list of everybody online whom I want to make sure not to miss in person. :}

Which brings me to the inevitable question: Does anybody want to do name-tags this year? I've still got mine from '07...

    36. I completely agree with you D! I love these Yos, and am thrilled that they're being made available to us, especially as what sounds like a pre-order! Here I was just telling McLamm7 the other night that I'd be "safe" unless there was a chance to get a Yo...good golly, now it's raining Yos!!! And even if not everyone is as excited or as appreciative about them, that leaves more for those who are. ;) Seems as if we go through this every year, but like the saying goes...you just can't please all of the people all of the time, or some people any of the time. LOL! So we'll go, we'll Dolpa 'til we drop, we'll swill mojitos 'til we swoon, and eat pastrami 'til we bust...and we'll have a blast like we always do! :D

Oh for those that were speculating earlier...the "memorial" one-offs are called that because Volks usually gives a sizable portion of the money bid to charity. In the past it has been the Make-A-Wish Foundation, in honor of DoA member the late Sarah Schoch, who had her wish to visit Tenshi-no-Sato fulfilled before she passed away in 2007.

      Juli DC

    37. Oh yaaaaahhhhhh! Put Jimmy in the middle of the ring as the ref! It'll be epic! I know I'd pay to see it...my bunch is so "refined"....Heath just stands around leaning every so slightly on his walking stick (for effect you know)...looking every inch like Jane Austin's Mr. Darcy. Meanwhile, Rose-Aurore is simply to pre-occupied with being royal to concern herself with the goings on of mere mortals. Passion has nothing to say, having wowed even the Dolly Doctor himself at NYC Dolpa 1 with her perfectly separated fingers, yet spectacularly horrid factory stringing. Honestly I don't know which of us was more exhausted after that trip, her or me! Talk about building up the biceps! And the others...well, they're smaller and lighter, so no real angst there either. I'm keeping it simple this year...toting my Dolpa party boy Gotham, and one more...mostly likely my Yo-Megu "Cam-cam"...yeah I know, famous last words...but if they have Another Yourself Vol. 2 available there to buy, it'll weigh a ton on it's own. ;)

But back to you...you've gotta bring Jimmy!!! Come on....it's tradition, like me bringing Gotham! Can't wait to see you again!

      Hugs, Juli DC :D

    38. I vowed i would not attend a dolpa without a doll that i could take. And i got my Volks Yuknojo in December. So now that i live in NYC, i will, without a doubt, be going! AerynAerie!!! I hope we get to hang out! I miss you!

    39. I think I still have mine, too. Name-tags are always fun.

    40. I have designed pin badges for the Tri-State group members and Nutmeggers (CT group) to wear if they choose. Maybe someone should design a DoA member badge with a space for you to write your name in? That would rock. People will know who I am this year since I will be dressed as the Mad Hatter with little Kurumi Alice and Ryu March Hare. :)
I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited about Alice & Lorina! Now I have to choose which one I want to go with the rabbit. If the event limited doll is Luna my new house won't get the new porch this Summer. LOL

    41. LOL JennyNemesis. This year I've actually planned my resin attendees in advance, but you know how that can change come the day of travel. I am sure Shayne is going to want to go, but I just don't have enough room in the bag. Especially if new Yos come home with me. What does everyone think? Will the Yos be there to take home or ship in a month or so like the little 4 Sisters?

    42. I thought it sounded like they'd actually be there, and we'd just pick them up if we pre-ordered, like they do at the Japanese owner's events. It does also say that they'll have some on hand for people to buy if you passed them up in the pre-ordering phase. I'm looking forward to seeing the White Rabbit in person, because he looks like a baby Yugiri to me, and I love Yugiri so much! I might have to take mine to Dolpa. :whee:

      I'm also not sure who all to bring with me. I've got all these boys to choose from, and several who've never been to an event before! I took my Yugiri & Scarface in 2007, and my Reisner & oneoff Tohya in 2008. I think it might finally be time for my SwD Lucas to go to a Dolpa this year, since I've had him longer than any of my other boys. I guess it'll depend on how many dollies I can fit into my carry-on, and if I get some stands so they don't take up too much room on the table. XD;

    43. It seems like they are going to offer preorder Yo's and then have a limited amount of dolls readily available to take home at the Dolpa for people who did not preorder them.

I already know who's coming with me, and that I can in fact fit all 5 of them in my suitcase with some creative packing and head removal. My back is not happy with this knowledge.

    44. DOH! I did see them mention about the pre-order but in all the excitement my brain didn't read it correctly. So we are ordering the in advance and picking them up at the event. Got it! *dance* Even better!!!!

    45. I don't think I can afford to go to this Dolpa but I'm excited to hear Alice might be in the lottery. Okay, can't afford her either, but I love having the possible chance.

But omg, an FDQ exclusive too?! O.O Be still my heart (and my wallet)!

    46. I have a feeling that my bank accounts & credit cards are going to be in stitches for several years over this Dolpa.

    47. I am so stoked about this!!! I am debating putting in for Lorinna just to get my hands on her outfit and wig... Plus I am certianly going to have to buy the Another Yourself book and get all the autographs I can. I am so excited to see the pictures in that. Plus the FDQ Exclusive, all the One-Offs. Sheesh, My wallet is sure to be weeping by the time I am through. Also super excited about Deli hopping with Juli and JennyN and also can't wait to see Brandon's costume!!!

    48. That would rock! I'll be able to recognize people if I see their dolls, but a name tag would be much more helpful, hehe! :D

    49. Re: Name Tags
I usually wear a tag with my avatar printed on it, along with my screen name and real name when I go to anime conventions. That's especially useful because I never change my avatar. ^_^ So even if someone doesn't come up with a name tag for this event, I'll at least have that.

      Re: Dolls to bring?
I have no freakin' idea. Two years ago I only had 1 Volks YoSD so it was a very easy choice. Now! I have a few more to choose from. :sweat

      Re: Wallet's Doom
I was already planning on using one credit card for the FCS and the limited if I liked it. I'm still really curious about the FDQ limited. And then my other credit card for a One-off If I liked any of them. :sweat wickedstitchery, I think our cards are going to start a therapy group together. XD

    50. Thesaraghina, yes do bring Lucas! <3 Would love to finally see the legendary little mister in person. And thank you for reminding me: bring stands. Tables do get crowded.

Juli, I hadn't planned on bringing Jimmy again but I guess the little bugger really does have to come. After all, he is an elder statesman by now, no party is complete without him, and he weighs nothing.

So do we really not have to preorder Another Yourself 2?... If they ARE selling the books themselves, right there, instead of just preordering them, then that means leaving a *lot* of free suitcase-space! If it's the size of Another Yourself 1, it will weigh a TON. But I will go to great lengths to avoid paying the shipping cost on a book that size ever again, so... <<more bicep curls>>

    51. Hurray!! \(^-^)/ I'll be sure to seek you out! :XD: I can't believe it's been so long! o_O
I want to see your Yukinojo too! I've never seen one in person....

*raises hand* I have a name badge too....Although putting on the avatar is a great idea! I may need to redesign it! :XD:

      *waves hands* >(^o^)< I'll help!!! -rofl- ;)

    52. I would love to have a badge <3

I wonder if we will get to pick up the book or limiteds there or not? Hmm...

    53. Oh my goodness, Alice and the White Rabbit...

Well, when I first heard about the dates for NYD, back in November, I put in for the vacation time at work (and got it). However, with talking to all of my SoCal Dollfie peeps that were interested in attending, I discovered that they either had friends/family to stay with, or already had paired up with others to room with. :(

Also, knowing that it was co-sponsored by FDQ, and their love for the "fashion" doll look, I figured that they would be releasing more SD-16 girls and/or SD-17 boys at this event. I never figured they would be releasing Yo-SDs... :o

I'm still unsure if I can budget in this trip, but I will take a second look at my finances now. If I am able to go, I hope that we might have the option to have the pre-order items shipped out to us. With packing out my camera gear and a couple of dolls in the carry-on luggage, I will have very little room for any extra items to pack home with me. I certainly would not wish to tempt Fate (or an unscrupulous baggage handler) by placing anything of value into a "checked" bag. :|

As for which dolls to take, I already have a couple in mind. I know that I'll probably be the lone Dollfie Dream owner, lost in the sea of Super Dollfie collectors, but I've sorta gotten used to that. ;)

We shall have to wait and see...

      TC

    54. Bring Darcy! No, wait, Precious! No, wait, um...aw, I want to meet all your boys and I know that Edgar does too.;)

I'm scrambling to get my finances together for this trip. It's great that the application period is so long and they allow cancellations just in case. I really, really want to pre-order Alice -- she'll be "Honoria", the Alabaster's little cousin -- but then I might not be able to afford a room. Guess that I could just camp in subway stations.^^

    55. I have a couple badge/tags from NYC Dolpas 2 and 3. Have changed my avatar but could change it back....LOL.

Mr. Postman....I usually take a collapsed box and tape in case I need to ship things home. If you are in NYC on Monday morning, there are several UPS stores nearby and POs somewhere.
      .

    56. My sister and I are staying at the Eventi Hotel. It's an awesome hotel :)

    57. This is good news! If I happen to get a doll, I will most likely use this method.

    58. Massive sigh of relief! I can get Alice! Or Lorina!Without selling an organ! Maybe even the White Rabbit who I want to make into a girl! And time to save money! And no international shipping fees! *happy dance* Now I just need someone to buy them from the Dolpa for me...

Matbe someday Volks will make all the dolls for NY Dolpa everyone wants! That would be great!

    59. TreeLore~ We should send a letter to Volks begging for her release! She's such a popular mold I can't believe they haven't released her again. I'm sick of losing out on all the chances on the marketplace and Y!J *grumbles*.

I wonder what the one offs will be~!

    60. I still have my namebadge from back in the day as well - it doesn't have my DoA avatar on it, because Nozomi-Cho over there, much as I love her, isn't a VOLKS doll. :-( Mine has her boyfriend, Kisho-Ryuu on it. (He's a SD13 Link)

Kellyhime - You're coming?!! Hurray!!!! This brings a wide smile to my face and a warm feeling to my heart.

~Bruce, quite curious regarding the FDQ limited . . .
