Volks NYC Dolpa, June 19-20th, 2010.

No, they don't. I've stayed there the last three years I've gone to NYC and they don't put a hold on the card until you check in.

 

Excellent! Thanks! I'm planning on staying there this year with Niko Ko and want to make sure it wasn't going to interfere with important things like rent.

My thoughts on potentially rude staff is they can't be any worse than the staff of the one Katsucon hotel I stayed at who had apoplectic fits at the sight of cosplayers. You would think they would have done some research before signing that contract.

 

*titter!* Naa, I was kidding -- Gershwin's staff is simply par for an artsy lower-Manhattan hotel. The 'tude comes with the territory, so I don't really mind. ^^

(Unless they eff up my airport shuttle reservation again, THAT I mind.)

Question: Generally how much does the workshops cost? Specifically the body maintenance class.

Entry for the workshops were $40 last year. That's on top of the event admission cost. And if you buy any supplies from Volks, that's also additional.

 

Thank you for those links, I found what I was looking for. I am really hoping that if I am able to come the body workshop will help me with my Kira. She is the really old body and can be quite stubborn.

 

I also vote for limited models, I hope they can bring some one-offs and also the Pearl II to the NYC Dolpa~

You might actually want to see the dolly doctor about her as well. ^^ I have a pretty old MSD Sakura, and I went to see the dolly doctor during the first NY Dolpa and he really helped her a lot.

Depending on how old your Kira is, the bodies were just very different back then and so more prone to having a few problems.

I voted in the poll too, but I voted for the getting to see people choice. I always look forward to NY events as a way to get to see in person all the people I'm fond of who I don't see normally and as a chance to ge to meet more owners.

 

There were ticky boxes, so I cheated and chose FCS and meeting people. I really am hoping to be able to place my first ordered by me FCS order this year so I too can experience the joy of a 4 month VolksUSA FCS wait. Spoiled by Sato and rkold I am.

And it's great seeing owners that you only ever get to see at Dolpa because of distance and meeting the wonderful Volks staff. I know at the last one, I had talked about my crazy idea for a Maki girl and it will be great to actually bring her along since she turned out so much better than I had ever hoped.

 

Oh I had thought about seeing the Dolly Doctor. She has those old large hip joints and her hands and feet are actually tied on with string. I tried to redo her myself and she isn't quite right but a little better than she was. I really want to get one of those head attachment pieces put in aswell if they can.

 

Dolly Doctor helped my old-style SD13 Shiro - they drilled out his hip joints a bit more so he could sit up & stay sitting up. They called it the Osuwari service; they know the 'old folks' can specifically have trouble sitting.

Come to think of it, they also gave my Isao free surgery on his bad knee, re- KIPSed my Arashi, restrung my Tony and tightened up another lazy Shiro. I never pass up an opportunity to visit the dolly doctor if I can help it!

 

Ohhh you have a real old Kira! They use to sell kits to help update the super old dolls to a newer set up, but I've not seen them for sale in a long time.

They did do some work on the peg system in my MSD Sakura to help her head cap stay on better and like JennyNemesis said with her Shirou, they drilled at her joints so that she was able to finally sit better.

Make sure you get a space with the Doctor as soon as you arrive at the Dolpa. He/She can get quite busy and it is a really popular service.

 

I'm just sooo excited!!! Already, all I can think of is "DolpaDolpaDolpaDolpa"!! I wonder what kind of limited dolls they'll have! And will they have Sumika or Sato FCS? And will my dream One-Off be there? Oooo, I better keep saving up!!!

In the poll, I chose Limited Dolls, FCS, and the Party. I couldn't choose just one!! It's going to be wonderful to see all my dolly friends again!!! And I hope I make many more!!

I'm waiting to see if my boyfriend gets a new job with United so I can fly for free. If so, I might actually be able to afford going to the Dolpa! =D

I've never been to one and I don't own any Volks dolls yet, but it all sounds so exciting, I hope I can scrape up the money. XD

 

When do you show up for this? Do you fly/drive and arrive on the 18th and then leave afterwards on the 20th? Or do you drive through the night and get there really early on the morning of the 19th?

 

If you have an older doll you might want to email Volks USA and explain why you want to see the doll doctor. Then they can make sure to bring what they need to fix it. They could also give you an idea of what to do to fix it so that you are prepared ahead of time. I know that the people seemed to be very happy after seeing the Dolly Doctor.

I sure wish I could aford to go this year, but I've had unexpected expenses so I'm maxed out on my credit card. I've got to pay that baby down to reasonable again

 

I hope they have Dream FCS .
Eventhough is very expensive, but I would love to bring my Dream FCS home~XDDDD

 

I would LOVE a dream FCS and I would do it in a heart beat as long as I had the $5000 ^_^ I would love Sato FCS options! That would be a dream come true as the only FCS dolls I really want are Sato only molds. I would not mind doing a workshop either, but I would prefer the School B head. I also am excited about the limiteds and I am hoping for a MSD or YoSD girl. I also hope there are One Offs. Even if I do not get one, I really want to see them in person. But in all honesty, I think the best part will be just seeing all the pretty dolls and meeting everyone! This is my first Dolpa, so I am really excited! It is also my first time to NYC!!

 

Oh if they only would give us Sato only heads this time. I would love an F38 boy on an SDG body. *le sigh*

 

I'm so excited about the dolpa and already reserved a room at Chelsea Savoy.
This time I was more careful not to get a room with 100% cancellation fee.
Last year was painful cause I lost money on both the hotel room and the flight reservation
This year I found a cheap round-trip bus from Washington DC to NY, so now all I need to plan is which dolls to take with me. XD

Is anyone planning to stay at Chelsea Savoy?

 

Yenha, it is a very nice hotel! I've stayed there several times for the Dolpas. I might be looking for a suite this time or I would have booked there already.

I chose classes. I just think it would be sooooo cool to learn from Volks! That, and a school head and materials are less out of my price range than a limited.

 

oh, I am also looking for buses from DC to NY, do you know the name for the round trip bus?
this is my first time taking buses and going to NY. I am in a pain searching hotels and transportations.

I went to Chelsea Savoy website, it looks very good. is it close to the dolpa center? Then, I might stay at Chelsea also~D

Yeah Chelsea Savoy is 3 blocks away from FIT. There are multiple bus services from DC to NY.
This site https://www.tripperbus.com is really nice cause they depart from Alington, VA and arrive at a street just a few blocks away from FIT.
You can find more by searching Bus service from DC to NY. The highest price I've seen so far is $50 for a round trip.

 

Myself and 3 others (there might be a couple more) are definitely staying at the Chelsea Savoy. AngelGuardian is the one that booked the room and she's stayed there multiple times before. I was there for NY Dolpa 3. It's a nice hotel and not a bad walk to FIT. Though hopefully NY isn't as hot as it was last year.

As alanna214 said....we've booked a Quad/2 double room at the Chelsea Savoy. This year would be my third time at that hotel.

I plan to fly to NYC on the 18th and leave on the 21st.

I booked my room at the Gershwin. I've always stayed with rkold and taken the train into the city every day, but this year it is going to be a splurge and well, the hotel is pretentious enough I decided to give it a go.

Since I live not too far away I'm taking the train up from Delaware Saturday morning and leaving Monday afternoon. No rushing away Sunday afternoon, and there are a lot of things I want to hit up in Manhattan. Book-Off and its temptation awaits.

 

So, I am planning to go to the Dolpa with my sister and I decided to email Volks first to see how it works when you want to bring a guest. I have a membership but my sister does not. Anyway here was thier response :

Does anyone know if guests were allowed in the past??? I thought it was mentioned on here somewhere but I couldnt find it. If I can't bring my sister, I am going to have to re-think everything.

 

Yes, guests have been allowed at the past two dolpas, at least. (I didn't attend the first one, so I don't know how that one worked.)

I think Volks is probably just playing it safe right now, and doesn't want to give any information out that isn't 100% confirmed. ^^; At the 2nd and 3rd NY dolpa, guests were allowed, with the stipulation that if there were too many guests, a lottery would be held to see which ones could come, but I don't believe they ever had to resort to that.

Yeah, guests are handled a little differently every time... They're never quite sure till later. I'd just stay tuned for announcements.

And Katz's Deli! Last year I couldn't get anybody to make the Pastrami Pilgrimage with me (it was just too effing hot) but this year someone has to come along. Now taking names.

I think you will probably get a kick out of the pretentious. Once you're prepped for it, it generally fails to offend & becomes novelty. XD I really like the Gershwin's ambience, & the Old New York charm of the building itself (floorboards, radiators, microscopic bathrooms), so to me it's worth it to stay somewhere without that generic hotel feel. When I'm in a Manhattan art-hotel I don't want to feel like I'm in the San Jose Doubletree. Besides, the location is great - lots of food/drugstores/etc nearby, & a short leisurely walk to FIT.

But it will take me between now & June to decide who I want to bring this year! ^^ Genji, Ryoya, Ryu, School B, or either of my travel-loving Shiros who have already been to New York but still want to come along...?

 

Not a huge fan of pastrami, but I love a good deli. I'm looking forward to seeing the hotel and staying there. It can't be any worse than the dives I have stayed at traveling via car through the Appalachian Mountains on endless family trips, and I like quirky hotels. The short walk to FIT and not so bad walk from Penn St is a definite plus.

And bring Rainey! I am in no way encouraging an adorable pile of misbehaving SD boys.

 

In the past guests have been allowed, but it really depends on demand. The space at FIT is quite large, but like most indoor spaces there are limits to how many people it can safely accommodate.

If your sister buys something from VolksUSA or subscribes to FDQ she will be eligible to attend on her own and not as a guest.

Volks updated their Blog and announced the limiteds ... nothing there for me since i'm getting little Lorina already (she shipped out yesterday). oh well.

I was really hoping for a Luna re-release ...

 

lol! And the NYC Dolpa Limiteds are YoSDs: Alice, Lolina, White Rabbit, and SWD White Rabbit! Much thanks go to Rosebud for initiating the campaign thread to VolksUSA! I'm genuinely surprised that owners got their request granted so quickly.

I like the White Rabbit and may bring him home, so this is a little bit of good news for me.

 

I think the limiteds are perfect! But I might be a little biased since I'm after both Little Alice's and Little Lorina's clothing sets. Since all the people attending will be able to preorder one of each, it's a lot more likely that I'll find someone who will be willing to split with me!

I'm a little sad that the SD16 Queen of Hearts outfit isn't available though.

Oh yay!!! I am so excited!! I want a little Yo Alice, so I am super excited! I would like to knwo the cost of attendence and workshops this year...and which FCS options will be available

 

Wow, strike out on the limiteds - nothing but girl-clothes & Yos. Guess we have to go all the way to Kyoto for hawt shinsengumi and short hair. At least now I get to save my money, just in case they do bring any boy shoes or kimonos. I won't hold my breath, though, since they don't usually bring the good stuff all the way to NY. Too much schlepping I guess.

Uh-oh, I opened a canoworms! I can carry 2 boys on a cross-country flight, but not 3... very tempting to bring that much miniature fetish gear through airport security... also tempting to bring lovely prized new-boy... So, as per usual, final attendees will be determined via cage-match elimination wrestling. (But I wouldn't count Rainey out. He's small but scrappy.)

Katz's DOES have other things besides pastrami, but I don't bother with them. Sandwiches are fourteen bucks and you get 1/2 a cow on rye. Sublime. Mclamm7, we'll get up a posse and split a cab. Kim, you can just order the chicken-livers instead. ~^

 

Wow, I am totally not interested in owning any of the LE items except for maybe the cat outfit for my one boy. 4 YoSD's and outfits for them, while great for Yo lovers, isn't much variety for those of us who don't like the size.

Ah well, more money for my FCS order. I had been living in a low grade panic that it somehow was going to be Tsukasa and then I would have had to miraculously make money appear.

I am really happy with the limiteds because the FCS options I want are not available in the US, so this means I can get a doll outside of trying for a One-Off. This is such good news! I wish we knew which school heads were available!

 

Great, just Yo-SDs Volks? Really couldn't you mix it up a bit...I like YO-SDs and all but not 4 of them...That disappoints me alot. I may even change my mind on going now. -_- I was really hoping on them pulling out something new and shiny this year. Guess i'll have to work on doing a FCS.
