Volks NYC Dolpa 4, July 25 and 26th 2009 -updated, postponed.- FDQ Shizu

Feb 21, 2009

    1. I understand them wanting you to be a subscriber. After all, technically it's FDQ's special release - it seems only fair. I do hope that if it IS a lottery, though, that people with previous subscriptions would get favored more.

    2. agreeing with justkatie, and note that Haute Doll sometimes has a limited exclusive that is available only to their subscribers.

    3. Well, it sounds a lot like the folks that are in the waiting room for the HD 'Bitten' event. Some of them are not subscribers to HD, but are ordering subscriptions just to get in on the event items. I don't know if HD honors previous subscribers either, but it would make sense (and be fair) if they did.

    4. I think that it might be beneficial to the magazines to let people create subscriptions to get items. I am sure they want to generate more subscriptions and I am sure the limited items are at least in part to make their magazines more desirable to people. I hope they treat new and old subscribers the same. By not giving new and old subscribers the same chances at items, they might deter new subscriptions instead of increase them. Furthermore, more subscriptions makes the magazines more successful and shows them how beneficial offering limited items can be and thus we might get even more limiteds in the future. :D All around, it is a good thing ^_^

    5. hmmm, the banner has changed, does that mean, Shizu is out?

    6. The page has been taken down too! I think she's sold out.

    7. I think so too! I hope that means we all got her!!!

    8. Oh I do hope everyone who wanted her got her. :)

    9. Darn it. I was without internet access all weekend since I was at a con.
I didn't even get to see the pictures of her.

    10. The Volks blog said she was an extremely limited edition. I wonder how many were released? She certainly came off FDQ's site quickly.

    11. Oh, how disappointing. I was on vacation the end of June til yesterday, and without internet access the entire time. I was looking forward to seeing what the FDQ limited would be, and didn't think they would release it until the end of July (around the time that the Dolpa would have happened). But the doll was announced a few days ago with orders taken immediately? And now she's sold out and that's it? I don't even see a place where her pic can be seen except for a smallish banner pic on the VolksUSA blog.

This Dolpa has been a complete let down in every possible way. :(

    12. I am hoping they will still have one-offs too. :)

    13. I agree. It really sucks there was no warning!! Some Dolpa.

    14. The release is just a release. No word of it (the FDQ special release) being a Dolpa in any way since the cancellation. It's more like a consolation prize for the dedicated fans of FDQ and Volks. I'm just glad that they did offer something than nothing. Now, that would be much terrible.

    15. From what I know, the Volks staff really had no control over the event. Volks just told FDQ what the dolls were and they organized it. I found it a bit confusing, but I hope that a lot of people will be able to take home Shizu.

    16. There were about five of them and they didn't sell out right away. I know I checked the site and they were posted for at least a full day.

    17. seoff, just curious but how did you know there were about 5 of them?

    18. Are you referring to the 5 or 6 Shizu pics that made up the banner on the FDQ site?

    19. Is the doll exclusive only in US or maybe we can see it in the international site also?

    20. Ooh one-offs sold through the website? That would be amazing :D

    21. I don't think they were just 5. I can't remember the exact phrasing of the FDQ information on it, but that each doll was unique because of the wig and eye combo. So technically there were at least 15 up for grabs. (I suspect more than that) They only showed five on the website so you could see all the different eye colors and wigs that she came in.

    22. I think last time they did the online Dolpa the one-off dolls were a lottery. So they could do that again. *crosses fingers*

    23. Congratulations to all the future Shizu owners :)

    24. Not to be a downer but Volks didn't say they were doing an online Dolpa instead of Dolpa NY. Also when I first emailed them asking about alternate plans their response didn't indicate that they had plans for online dolpa.

I'll dig up the exact email when I get home.

    25. I don't have any hopes of an online Dolpa, I just hope that "postponed" didn't mean next year.

    26. Technically if they don't have one until the time it would have been scheduled for next year anyway then wouldn't that mean that this year's dolpa wasn't so much "postponed" as it was "cancelled". Not that I'm trying to be picky about the terms that they've used, it's just that "postponed" means that we still have hope, whereas "cancelled" means that we need to move on and start thinking about the possiblity of there being one next year instead..

    27. I wouldn't expect a Dolpa this year. If they're avoiding complications stemming from the H1N1 virus, they will continue to avoid the U.S., I'm sure. It did not peter out as hoped over the summer and we will be moving into the cold and flu season in a few months. I hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm thinking "postponed" was a nice way of saying wait and see and I think it looks rather unlikely. :(

    28. I am getting the same vibe as you AreeElf. I was thinking that they would have another doll or dolls in addition to the FDQ Shizu. And, if they did, I would imagine they would want to sell them.
I dont think they would tell you via email what their plans are TBH.
It is not looking good, but I am still hoping some dolls will be released for US.
      ~Gus

    29. The NY Volks Dolpa had (at least for year 1, 2 and 3) only one event doll, besides the one-offs and prizes. Last year we were also able to enter a Volks lottery for the Yo 4-Sisters. I didn't expect that this was going to change this year. I'm not sure what other dolls would be released or why I would expect there to be more than one doll.

LA had 2 Jewels and other treats, but the NY dolpa has so far offered only one limited doll each year that is presented as a FDQ limited doll.

Not that it wouldn't be fun to have more than one!

    30. Do downer at all. I was saying that I hope they will still do one-off dolls like they usually do for Dolpa NYC and that if they do, perhaps they will do it like they did for last year's online Dolpa since that worked well for them. Not that they were planning another an online Dolpa. ;)
But I do hope there are more dolls to look at.

    31. I don't see the picture of Shizu, anyone has a link????

      Geri

    32. I think the pictures were taken down because the doll is already sold out?

    33. Wow, I didn't know about her...what the heck????

      Geri

    34. Thanks Riverblood :)

I can't believe she is sold out.

    35. I know, there was no warning. :(

    36. This was the email that volks sent me on May 25 when I asked about online events with regard to Dolpa

    37. I hope there will be another dolpa in the future. I would love to see another one again. :)

    38. I put all the pictures on my blog, too, if anyone wanted to see.

As for there being no more online releases..well, if they can't do it in person, why not do it on the website already set up for selling dolls? :sweat It would be unusual for Volks but there's a first time for everything.

    39. This was the first two pages of the order form giving info of Shizu:

Sorry this is the biggest resize my photo hosting provides.

    40. Thank you both for the pics. Shizu is truly lovely - I think I would have been quite tempted to try for her. Oh well... I suppose another Volks release is destined to be my first 'big' girl.

As for a NY Dolpa in the future, wasn't there another e-mail, (I think by someone on the FDQ staff) that pretty much stated that it wasn't going to be rescheduled anytime soon because deposits have to be made and permits obtained many many days in advance? Seems someone posted it a while back. Anyway, I'm just hoping that there will be a NY Dolpa next year and that the economy will have picked up by then and the fears of Swine Flu will be behind us, and everyone will be able to enjoy themselves even more fully than they would have this year.

Ahh, here is the post I was thinking of: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4739516&postcount=1083

    41. AreeElf: I see exactly what you are saying about the dolpa being postponed indefinitely. That email does not give us much hope. Sadly.
Thank you so much for saving those pics and posting them for us!

      ~Gus

    42. Has anyone received a confirmed order yet? I.e. you have actually been charged for one? :D

    43. Not yet, and I am constantly checked my e-mails for one!

    44. I haven't gotten a confirmation either. Pat says in the email that we'll get an update in a few weeks regarding the ship date and shipping charges but I hope it'll be much sooner!

    45. There will be other dolls or only Shizu?

    46. I think Shizu was it. The only thing that was confirmed from is that the planned FDQ exclusive for this event would still be offered despite "postponement" of the event

    47. I understand!
      Thank you so much!

    48. I am DYING waiting to hear more about these girls!!! I want to know whether I won her for sure, how many of her there are, when she will ship, and whether I got my preferrence or not! I am spazzing out over here!!! :shudder

    49. mclamm7: Wishes you luck on getting your first choice and you're welcome on the photos. I wish volks or FDQ had at least left the info on their website for reference.

    50. I know right! I wish that we had more info. I totally stumbled upon her in the first place and I feel bad for all the people that may want her but found out too late because there was not much in the way of advertising for her. I am psyched that they released her though. I LOVE Shizu and I am so happy i got my application in before they cut it off.

    51. <smiles> The one thing we learn in this hobby, mcclamm7, is to be patient.

<twiddles fingers and works on writing lectures>

    52. Patience certainly is the hardest thing to learn! It's funny - with some dolls, the wait doesn't bother me at all. But with others, it's sooooo hard! Shizu is one of the hard ones, since I just want to know for certain that she will be coming home to me.

    53. I actually was just looking at FDQ to see her again and realized I couldn't find the pics. Thanks AreeElf for posting them. I'm hoping to get one too (put my name in to Pat) and wanted to look at pics to try to come up with a name list for her. I love naming my dolls and it's one thing that keeps me occupied while I wait.

    54. I saw the two-page spread of photos of Shizu in the latest issue of FDQ. She looks so gorgeous! I wonder how much longer we'll have to wait until we know if our orders were successful. I'm having a hard time sitting still! @_@

    55. Thats so sad first a dolpa were dolls were stolen , then no Dolpa for So.Cal now no Dolpa (seemingly) or in person event for NY....

If I would have known the first Dolpa here in the states was going to be the last one I would have tried harder to go...:(

    56. Aichan: Last years dolpa was the 3rd in NYC, and there've been LA dolpas already ifi 'm not mistaken. The fact that dolpa was postponed/canceled this year had nothing to do with the dolls being stolen last year. It was the swine flu scare o_O

    57. Well, aren't the NY ones really tea parties?

    58. It certainly didnt strike me as a "tea party" last year! I've only ever been to the one dolpa, and i'm not sure what happens at others, but last year was a two day event. There were workshops, they had stuff for sale, there was an FCS table, One-offs, givaways, and various other things going on.
