Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

May 24, 2016

    1. It surprised me too, but I don't mind, I'm hoping I can get together the funds to grab an SDM girl, as I've wanted one for so long and only have boy Midis right now!! :XD:
I hope they offer F-43 again because I definitely want her in sunlight :D

    2. Hello everyone xD

Basically I'm an old member but wasn't that active >.< I'm starting to move with resins since I saw renee few years ago and fell in love with her <3 and knowing she'll be in this coming dolpa, hoping I can take her home with me <3

just want to know if a MDD or MSD outfit can fit the SDC? I read that MSD and SDC body have a few difference but not sure whether buying clothes would affect the SDC body? :o

    3. Ahh, more competition! lol good luck to us both!
As for fit, yes, the MSD clothes that Volks make usually fit SDC as well. The nice thing about getting clothes from Volks is that they'll mark what sizes they fit. MSD is slightly bigger than SDC, but anything other people advertise as fitting "slim mini" is probably going to be too small for an SDC. They're slim, but not that slim! So my advice is to stick with Volks unless you can verify that clothes will not be too small for an SDC n_n

    4. Hi @airreyes,

Here is a photo comparison thread I made of Volks, Msd, Sdm and Sdc bodies.

      /threads/vol...-super-dollfie-and-super-dollfie-cute.598625/

The Msd and Sdc girl bodies are slightly different but overall they can fit the same clothes.

Differences would be the neck size on Sdc and longer legs if comparing to a Msd with the short legs.

I heard the Mdd body is slightly slimmer. So their clothes may not fit.

Check out the first post in Sdc, Msd and Mdd discussion threads for body measurements.

    5. What do you think of the quality of Volks dolls compared to other brands? Would you recommend a Volks doll over other mini dolls from cheaper companies? Why? Why not? I'm new to BJDs but, it seems to me that Volks is one of the most popular brands despite being one of the most expensive. I don't have a Volks doll but I may get one in the future. Thank you in advance for your help.

    6. @Allie27 well I might be biased... personally I'm quite a Volks devotee, hehe. I think their minis are better priced than their SDs too, relative to other companies (hence why I have mostly minis lol). I 100% recommend the SDMidi line. I love their posing and their weight. Volks is known for good quality/hefty resin, and I really notice it! Some people are not fans of Volks' posing, but personally I really like the posing of their more recent lines (the ones with double joints), I think the double elbow joint in the Midi body is one of my favorites among my dolls.
I also have an SDCute and she has some of their older double elbow joints (she was made back in 2004). To be honest those don't allow much more poseability than the original single joints haha. I still love my SDCute but I definitely prefer the Midi body. So if you are picky about posing, definitely go for the Midi above the Cute. Both are great dolls though, in general I have found that Volks resin quality and sculpting detail is really nice compared to some of my other dolls.
Midis are more easily obtainable than the Cutes because they are offered in the online Full Choice System, plus they are frequently found on the MP, on Mandarake, and Yahoo!Japan. So yeah, I totally recommend Volks minis and I think they are worth the price. There's an online FCS period starting tomorrow that includes Midis if you feel like taking a look just to see how that works and what the Midi is like!
You can also always pick up a secondhand MSD if you don't mind single joints, they sometimes run for pretty cheap secondhand! Their heads and hands are interchangeable with the Midi body. :)

    7. Been away from BJDs for a long time, but the timing was finally right--the stars aligned, as did my funds and the doll's availability;) and I have finally, after wanting her since I started in the hobby in 2008, ordered my precious F-20!!!:dance

    10. Wasn't there someone in here that wanted a Shiratori? :o

There's one on ebay right now~

    11. That would probably be me :sweat
I see one of the original SD ones on eBay, but I already have the SD Shiratori head luckily eheh (she still needs a body >_>) ;; the SDM version is on my wishlist though. Someday :chibi

    12. Hi everybody,I would like to join the discussion. I have a Volks Midori pre school on layaway. I bought her in 2006 and sold her and now I have so much regret. I'm so happy to find her back! I need to buy her a wig, shoes and clothings as she didn't have them anymore but I'm really happy right now!

    13. Welcome Brechtje, that is wonderful news that you are getting your Midori back! I look forward to seeing her. :daisy

    14. @Brechtje, it's so wonderful that you were able to find your girl for sale once again. That happened to me twice, so I know how very special that feeling is.:) Congratulations!

I finally finished my adorable secondhand F-01 Sakura, whom I call Bunny Harajuku. I truly love her rather anime look...she's so sweet and just perfect for her character.

They're like my favorite thing to see other than BishonenHouse dolls. =D

I finally got Leigh a twin brother like she's been wanting. <:

Oli is so cute, I had no idea VOLKS had so many lovely MSD sculpts!

    21. @P-Aei, what a delightful set of twins! They look so awesome together and I love how you've styled them. Those pale blue eyes and light blonde hair is so cute on them, and I love the way they're dressed.:)

No clue where my boy would fit in (yoMidi Williams) but since with the Dollshe body he is MSD so I just gonna post him here

    23. Oh wow!!! What an amazingly gorgeous guy he is!:o Those tats are awesome and he has an incredible presence. The hands of that body are quite beautiful.

    24. I got some outdoor photos of May, today! The weather was behaving well this morning. There were just enough clouds in the sky to keep the sun from washing out my photo quality. :dance

    28. I shared her in the SDM thread, but I wanted to share here, too ^_^

My F-48, Giselle, returned home fairly recently with her new face up. <3 (Many of my girls have returned recently, and I'll share more soon!)

      I think she's DoA's first F-48 owner photo, but I'm not entirely sure :o

    29. Thank you so much!, I am so happy you like my María!. I wish I had more time to play with my dolls, but for now it is almost impossible...

I adore your girl!! <3 <3 <3 SDMf48 is in my wish list and I am in love with your beautiful little Giselle, such a beautiful name!! *___*

Thank you so much for sharing her!

I will try to make a family photo of my Volks girls soon!! ;)

    32. Semi-random comparison of a long-leg Midi boy and a DearSD, for hilarity:

(Yo-Midi Williams and a Tiffany. Williams' head looked ridonkulous on the Yo body but he looks great on the Midi body. Probably because that head seems to be closer to 7-8 than the usual 6-7 for that scale, a SDC/Yo Wig I have juuuuust barely squeezes on that noggin. Actually he can barely fit his own wig... Derp.)

      • x 6
    33. @Ian-KunX Would you be willing to put your Williams head on the DSD body?

    34. @Cloudedmind It's not physically compatible. XD The Midi Williams head fits perfectly on the Midi body and is attached to a Yo body with a special adapter piece, while DearSD uses SD heads via simply having a large enough neck for SD heads.

    35. Ah, OK. I wasn't sure how close the neck measurements were between the two. I have a YoMidi Williams as well, but haven't been able to find measurements for the Midi body.

    36. Yeah the difference is quite large. XD I don't have anything to measure with, but I'd say the Midi body is about the same size as the old MSD neck. I used to have an MSD F-13 years ago and the size looks about right.

Also man I love the midi body. Wish the hands were a little more mature but the posing is great.

    39. @snowman, no wonder you're so happy with your girls...they're positively lovely! And such gorgeous dresses too!:D Thank you so much for sharing them with us.

    40. Hello all... just yesterday I received my very first Volks doll, a SWD Kaede I got off Mandarake. I'm completely smitten with her precious face!

Her name is Mokuren and I'm still trying to decide on her look. I like the curls on her, but this wig isn't the most flattering....

Anyway, I'm excited to be here after 12 years in the hobby! I've been enjoying everyone's beautiful photos!

    41. @redfeathers, how precious she is...gotta love that sweet face!:) I've always had a real soft spot for sleeping dolls, I love their peaceful demeanor. I'm another old-timer to the hobby (over 11 years) who recently adopted my first Volks. Better be warned that they have a tendancy to multiply...now I have 3 and I'm not quite sure how that happened.:sweat

    42. I had a feeling it was like that! I've had another Volks girl on my list for a long time (SD F03), and I'm already kind of eying SDC Mina or Mei... I guess I should be used to it by now, but my collection doesn't need another population boom :sweat

I'm the same way with sleeping dolls, and I've always especially liked Volks' SWD sculpts, so I guess it was inevitable!

Anyway, I saw your pictures of Pixel further up the thread... but you should definitely share her more! :D

    43. So excited, my first Volks, MSD F 34 is on her way! She will be the youngest of my gang, around 5 years old, so I need to get her an entirely new wardrobe - does anyone have suggestions for a good place to get casual style clothes suitable for a young child? I'm wary of most things I've found on etsy which seem to be for minifee and I'm not sure they will fit? And the style is often more 'adult'

    44. I never thought the day would come, but I'm getting an SDC Renée!! I found one for a decent price on Y!J, and was the only person who bid! I almost can't believe this is happening!!

    45. Hello, I'm a lurker popping out of the woodwork! I wanted to share that I am getting my first Volks SD Midi, hopefully very soon! She is an FCS F-20 in Sunlight skin that I've just adopted from the marketplace! I've had a few Volks MSDs in the past but never liked the body, but have read good things about the Midi one :) My girl will come blank so the next thing will be to decide who to send her to for a lovely faceup!!

    46. Congratulations, @dambuster01! My very first doll was a MSD (10+ years ago :P) and like you I never liked the body, so I was very surprised with how much I looooove the SDM. Now I have 3 :P Can't wait to see your sunlight F20, what a great combination!

    47. Thank you @kuro! I'm very excited about her although I'm also nervous as she is coming from the US and Spanish Customs are absolutely HORRIBLE with anything coming in from outside of the EU.....so wish me luck on that one!!!
My first Volks MSD was Ken who I dressed as a girl, but I never warmed to that sculpt very well.
Then I had Mimhi who was gorgeous but I sold her, because I'd always wanted Toppi. However when I finally found Toppi and got her a beautiful faceup from Viridian House, I ended up selling her!! I have no idea why, probably another 'must have' doll came up and someone had to go. She is probably one of my 'regret sales' as she was sooo cute, but as I said, the body was just not for me.
Hopefully I will love my new girl as the F-20 has always been a sculpt that I've loved.

    48. @dambuster01 Haha what a coincidence, my first doll was MSD Mika! Maybe someday you will recreate your Toppi as an SDM :)

    49. @redfeathers and @PoeticSoul I too recently got my first Volks doll! I have been in the hobby 13 years.

Jude is a FCS F-15. So I guess he could be from 2005-2009.

    50. @ophelia awww congratulations! Jude is super cute too :aheartbea They do seem to be addictive... since getting Mokuren I've already added another Volks doll to my wishlist!

    51. Almost forgot to post a pic of my Renée! I've been kinda bouncing off the walls since she got here :whee: Here are all three of my SDC gals.

    52. [IMG] Happy Halloween Everyone! My girl wanted to show off her new Halloween dress. I hope you like her.

      • x 5
    53. She's so cute! I absolutely love that dress, did you make it?

    54. @redfeathers Thank you very much. I have to admit she is one of my favorite MSD girls. Actually my best friend made it by hand for me.

      • x 1
    55. That's my wish as well, with both the MSDs and Midis. I just really dislike their pudgy little baby hands. I may eventually get some jointed hands for my F-39 girl, but in the mean time, I've been wondering if a pair of either Dollzone or Luts hands would possibly work. I mainly just want her hands to look slimmer and pretty, even if they don't really look more mature. Has anyone tried using hands from another doll company?
