Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

I just put a SDC May/Mai on layaway and I'm super excited. They have been one of my grails since the release. I tried to buy on during the after event but the website wouldn't take my money! LOL! So they got put on the back burner. I still really want the fullset outfit though... but eventually, maybe...

Why didn't I find this thread earlier? Volks' minis need more love! I've been eyeballing SDM F-37 and F-39 since their releases. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Volks USA will eventually add one or the other to their FCS lineup. Speaking of which, could I get some spam of them? I don't see much of them around!

 

Hi all I'm a sucker for a Volks mini. I'm seriously contemplating putting in for the lottery on that f-45 midi boy . Those eyes... just gorgeous! I don't have many boys in my collection; maybe I need one.

 

I hope you win!!! Ciera is absolutely my favorite face-up artist at Volks. His make-up is just ethereal!

Thank you, @nakitaninja and @PoeticSoul for your kind words for my girl I'm so very happy with her, and I'm hoping to have my May painted in a similar fashion so that they can be sisters. That's the plan anyway. I haven't even made their box opening threads yet, because I wanted them to be complete before I do.

 

That 45 boy is just a knockout! I love that delicate faceup.
They always need more boys in these one-off lineups, really they do. It's selling these wonderful little guys short.

 

Well, I just entered for the f-45 and my fingers are crossed! I've been giving my MSDs some love recently (re stringing, baths, new toys) and I decided that yes, the girls need a senpai to notice them. I usually have good luck in the Dollfie Dream lotteries; maybe that will carry over.

 

Good luck on the lottery, @renee_chan ! I entered for Alice, but I hold little hopes of actually winning her.

 

That way it's just the best surprise if you do win her! I am wishing you so much luck.

 

Thank you, @nakitaninja ! I am hoping that the short entry period and the high purchase price will limit my competition. Haha. But there is only one of her available, so even if there are only 10 or 20 entrants, my chances are low. I have to try though.. Alice is my last grail.

In other news, I am finishing layaways on two other Volks MSD girls within the month, so I'll have two more lovelies to play with. Both bought from the MB here, I'm expecting an F-33 and an F-38 The F-33 has a really cute custom face up, but the F-38 has the Volks default ^_^ I am trying to decide which artist to send her to.

 

Liz arrived today, just wanted to share a quick picture. I didn't have the right wig or eyes for her and scrounged to find something but she's arrived safely and is super cute in person.

@wrxgal i know you say the wig isn't perfect... but it looks pretty dang close! She's awesome- congratulations.

 

@wrxgal, She's truly gorgeous! Wow, I love her faceup! It has so much character and those eyebrows are just precious.

 

She's lovely, @wrxgal ! Was she the Liz that was in the MP, with a face up like that? I watched that girl for a long time but dragged my feet, and one day, she was gone!

It's kinda neat though that you got her Your dolls are all so pretty. She'll fit right in.

 

I recently received a Lilith I purchased from a member on DoA. She fits in nicely with my two other Volks girls.

I just got a Volks MSD girl body and was hoping someone here could answer a few questions about the marks I found inside the body when cleaning her.

Inside her chest there is an "M". I am assuming this means she has medium bust? Also in her leg parts they are all marked with what looks like a Roman numeral 2. Does this mean she had the longer legs?

Also, what is the point to the metal rings I found loose in her arms and legs? She seems to string back just fine without them, so I am curious as to what they are intended for. I see they are included in the standard stringing kit that can be bought from Volks, so I know they are standard, but I cannot figure out what they are for.

... I've always wondered what the washers are for. I always leave 'em in just because they're there, but I dunno what they actually do. Perhaps some attempt to keep the string centered inside the channel?

 

I thought it might be to keep the s-hooks from getting trapped in the limbs if your grip on them slips during restringing.

 

Hey everyone

First of all, a few months back I made this video comparing my SDM boy body and SDC girl body. IDK why I didn't think to link it here at the time, seems like a perfect place. I look like a mess in it b/c I was sick but oh well (and I kinda act like a mess in the intro, what was my voice, ugh)... thought someone here might find a comparison between the two lines interesting!

I've also wondered about those little washers in the wrists and ankles. I haven't yet restrung my Midi but he's really loose so I'll probably have to soon >_< and I'll have to see if the washers help with securing the s-hooks, like guls207 said :0 if so, that would be a really nice touch honestly. I always have trouble with that when restringing...

Aleksei is an FCS-30 SDMidi boy in PS white with a Volks face-up. Kalinka is an SDCute girl Kaede in PS normal with a custom face-up.

They look really cute together! I was glad to see WS and PSN together - I was wondering how it would work and it looks great!

I had no idea that F-30 was such a cutie! He looks like he'd be friends with SDC Arashi and Ryu.

 

Man idk why I never responded to this till now I'm sorry! Thank you so much I do love my F-30. I bought him at a con and had never seen pictures of him before, he was an impulse buy haha. Later I looked at promo pics of his sculpt, and they made it seem like he wouldn't be my style. I don't think I would have gone for him had I not seen this particular one in person it really solidified to me how much a face-up and style can change how a sculpt comes across!

Oh by the way, does anyone know if MSD/SDM F-35 has been offered before in USA FCS? I have a character I'd like to shell as a sunlight skin F-35 but I dunno how likely or possible it is that they'll offer that that sculpt in the online FCS.

 

The SDM F-35 hasn't been offered in the USA FCS as far as I'm aware. It was however offered as a lottery draw around December last year. I remember that because I almost jumped on Charlotte. :p

 

Aww man. I might email them and ask if they ever plan to offer F-35 in the FCS. I was gonna email about some Dolpa stuff as well so hm hm

 

I may have just impulse bought myself an SDC May from Y!J.

I used Buyee to purchase her, and had forgotten to change my shipping address before bidding. Once I won the bid, Buyee automatically charged my PayPal account and I noticed that the address was incorrect on the PayPal transaction. I changed my address on the Buyee website and sent them an inquiry form asking to please ship her to my new address, so I'm crossing my fingers that everything works out.

Anyways, she's been gently used, but comes from a smoking home. She's going to need some airing out, but thankfully her resin doesn't look yellow at all! I hope she arrives safe and sound.

I was actually planning to save up for a Comi Baby Peridot, but I couldn't resist that price for May. I didn't put in a high bid, so I was shocked when I actually won! Why is Y!J so good at taking my money?!

For record's sake, Buyee got back to me today with a canned response on how to change your shipping address via their website. It looks like I need to edit the package information before paying for shipping, but since she hasn't arrived at the Buyee warehouse yet, there is no package information right now. Looks like everything will be fine once she arrives at Buyee, though!

 

@NekoNyanMew 's yahoo.jp find inspired me to do a bit of digging there on my own. Originally hoping to find an elusive Mamu, I stumped across another SDM on my list - an F-42 girl! Ahh she's so sweet and serene. She's like-new, purchased from Volks this past December, and now she's mine. Well, as soon as Buyee gets her and ships her to me.

Super excited! Though a little mad at myself for spending more money. :P

 

My secondhand May arrived a few weeks ago and I love her!



She smelled pretty strongly of cigarette smoke for a few days, but I managed to air her and her box out pretty well. Unfortunately, the previous owner did some poor sanding around her joints, so I had to make sure she was wearing an outfit that covered her body up. Thankfully it looks super cute on her!

BTW if anyone isn't following the SDC thread, Volks showed on Instagram that they're re-releasing Renee~! I've always thought she is the cutest thing ever, but I'm always on the fence about whether I want another SDC. ;>.> Because while I love my Kaede, she can't really pose for anything, especially compared to the nice elbow and knee posing of the SDM. I wish I could hybrid her onto an SDM body, but I tried her on my SDM boy's body and the proportions looked terribly off. D: But I'm wondering if the girl body's shoulders and neck might be thinner than the boy body's, and look okay with a smaller head...
Does anyone have pictures of an SDC head on an SDM girl body? I've found pics of MSD/SDM heads on SDC bodies but never vice versa unfortunately. TT

She's a girl, in White Skin I plan on hybriding her eventually, and I figure it's easier to blush WS to match a pink-ish resin than a yellow-tone Normal Skin.

 

@wherethelilacsbloom Ahhh, that makes sense. Volks ws is super lovely too. I was torn on what color I wanted till I saw my girl. :3

@rianne - Yes, my F-42 is WS, and I think she's so lovely.. She's got an otherworldly look to her that I love

@kuro - Not entirely sure yet, but maybe Asleep Eidolon or Xagadoll. I like their NS skin tone a lot, and their bodies are cute and very nice posers. And not overly skinny.

Thank you so much for the comments on May, @TheBodyVolcanic, @PoeticSoul, and @wherethelilacsbloom! NGL, I do sometimes get a bit peeved at her poor sanding job, but that's just the perfectionist in me. She was an awesome deal, and imperfections like that are nothing to fret over.

Your girl is a true beauty, @rianne. She reminds me of the Mako/Dai sculpt a little bit. I wonder how those two compare when they're placed next to each other.

Real talk about this Renee business - I would love one but am currently broke as all hell. I've also set myself a 10 doll limit, and that limit has been reached. If I want a new doll, I need to sell an old one, and there are none I'm willing to part with right now. Ugh, it's so difficult not buying any new dollies!

 

Mind if I add my Akira here? I've had him for a while but I only got a decent camera a few days ago so I finally can take pics of him that aren't awful.



He's an awesome little guy but I got problems to get him to stand or sit properly. Might have to work on that ...
