Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

I'm so sad, there's a SDC Ryu on YahooJapan that's finally in my budget but I'd have to increase my spending with my proxy service and he'll probably be gone then,.. plus they'd gouge me with fees anyway. Ryu, one day.... D'= *reaches dramatically*

 

OMG THAT IS SO CUTE. : Why do I suddenly have the urge to put Rowan & Robin into matching ladybug bodysuits? Ladybug leotards and combat boots.

Aww, I hope that Ryu hangs around for a bit, until you can get your budget beefed up! Ryu is such a charming little guy. Good luck snagging him.

 

I managed to avoid looking at the new SDM tenshi girls and stumbled across them unawares --- sigh ........... are there any owner pics to drool over yet?
I need to get my Ryu out for pics, too. He always looks so cheerful and I was so lucky to get him and now to keep him that I should show him off

If he was on mandrake he'd already be shipping to my house to hang out with Leigh and Annie. You sharing your lovely Robin makes me feel better though. Look at him, I like that wig!

Does anyone know for certain whether Volks sunlight skin color is consistent or whether it varies?
Trying to decide about skin color for a FCS order.
Since Volks will only allow 1 optional pair of hands and no extra feet with the order, I'm definitely concerned about how off the color match might be if I bought Sunlight hands and split toe feet from their store.
TIA for answers as I've only have 1 more day to make my decision.

 

@eleniel thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
I had already purchased split toe feet and another pair of hands from the Volks store for my normal skin Ryotaro and the color match is a bit off now as well as for the fist hands I paid far too much for on the secondary market. I'll do what I've done before and leave them out exposed to the air while he sleeps in his box until they age to a better color match.
My doll friend and I we were out and about having fun taking pictures and it totally slipped my mind that FCS was closing at 6PM PDT and not at the end of the day on Sunday. Ryo will have to wait for his SDM girl companion until the next FCS.

Oh wow, where did actual fists come from? My boys are coveting those! I didn't think Volks even made boy fists in this size. They are pretty perfect.

 

@JennyNemesis, those are F07 hands from the FCS selection. I got some when I got my Ryotaro from the 2013 Volks USA lottery, and they offered a selection of MSD/Midi hands for the lottery winners.

 

Oh, so they're something that might come around again in an FCS order? Or are they only a special event/release thing?

I never pay attention to FCS at all because it's never had anything I've wanted, in 10 yrs, but if they've got boy fists, I'll start paying attention!

I was able to adopt a Ryu! =D I also got to try Luts hands on the SDC boy body (The arm is angled in one of the photos.) They're actually fit, there a little small but not too bad! I'll buy a pair for my boy eventually.

Hey everyone! My first release Yuni arrived home today and I'm in love with her. I didn't realize what people meant about Volks resin being thicker/heavier until now-- she's hefty in a nice way!



The clothing/wig/eyes came from the seller, but I plan to sew up an outfit for her soon if I can find the right fabric. So excited to be able to show her off!! >W<

 

My FCS 31 came today and I am so happy with her! Pics tomorrow hopefully but it was the first time to order FC and it took me days to decide on all the options, but so much fun

See, I knew your Ryu was out there somewhere, not far away! It was absolutely in the cards. When these guys choose you for their home, it's just a matter of when they get the airfare.

I've never seen an unpainted one before, either-- wow, what a handsome face he is, even without features. He looks very dreamy without the Volks smile-effects painted on. Fantastic! It's a great great sculpt. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

The LUTS hands seem so tiny compared to the big Volks paws. I'm so used to seeing all my Volks dolls with those famously big hands. :3 But I suppose they'd be just fine for a more refined or daintier sort of boy. (As opposed to my ham-handed headbangers.) (Who are both now starting to sit up and nag me for the next FCS opportunity to buy them fists! And scowl at me for not paying attention sooner!)

Robin and Rowan send, uhh, a "celebration" to your new boy, in the way they best know how.

 

@kirei What a cutie! What sort of outfit will you make for her? =D I love how heavy VOLKS dolls are. I feel like if I had to, I could toss a doll at in intruder and knock them out or give them a big head ache, and the doll would be no worse for wear. My Arashi has fallen off my dresser and out of trees on multiple occasions with no damage afterward.

@bajib Please share photos, I don't know if I've seen that sculpt, congrats!! =D

@JennyNemesis Thank you! I'm so happy to finally have him, he was the most difficult SDC to find. A kind user here answered my WTB thread and now I've finally got another boy! Finding photos of a blank one was really hard, so I'll be taking many before I paint him, maybe he can charm other people into adopting a SDC. The LUTS hands are quite dainty but they don't look babyish like I was afraid they might look like. I like the big clunky VOLKS hands. =D Can you buy just hand parts during a FCS? I'd LOVE to buy some but I have no idea how to do the FCS stuff.

I love Robin and Rowan! Robin is such a perfect name for Ryu, I'll have to think of a different name for mine, I thought about Robin but then remembered your charming little fellow. =D

Hehe, thanks -- and I agree that Ryus look like Robins. That's why I picked the name, because he just LOOKS like a Robin. And could there even be such a thing as too many Robins?

As I recently learned a bit upthread, yes, apparently SDC/MSD boy fists are available through FCS. I didn't think the mini boys got fists, am overjoyed to be wrong.

 

I love looking at all the pictures in this thread even if I am horrible at commenting!

I might need to try and snatch up some Volks option hands (albeit not via FCS because so far Volks hasn't graced us Europeans with a way to do that yet...) to try on my Ian - who also is on wig no. 4 and I have yet to find one that is the style I want for her that also fits her bobble head of utter doom.

 

@Roterwolkenvogel, Volks MSD option hands might not work so well on Ian, since they don't come with wrist balls, and she doesn't have any of her own -- plus her wrists are a little smaller. I wonder if there's some other company's option hands that don't have a separate wrist ball that might work, hmmmm... I like her funny little hands, but I'm not enthusiastic about their limited movement.

 

@beamlette I currently have Unoa option hands on her which do work well! I just kinda want to keep her Volks only for stupid reason xD

 

@Roterwolkenvogel, it's understandable that you'd like to keep her "all" Volks; I try to do that too with my Volks dolls! That's interesting to know about the Unoa option hands, as I wasn't aware of that. Something else to look for; thanks!

 

I'd like to know what coloured hair she has, I'm assuming it's in the fluffy pigtail style. I have an FCS F-33 coming my way from a lovely lady in USA who was willing to add my order to hers and post my one to me for no cost. I already have a few spare wigs from my other lovelies but just in case none of those suit...

 

Hi I just had to share my excitement. I'll be getting a SDM Byarkuren in a few weeks. I'll be sending my last payment at the beginning of September. So she will be coming home soon. I've been wanting one since she was released. I'm thinking about buying her a dark brown wig and give her light blue or green eyes. Her sisters have been patiently waiting on her but even they are getting antsy for her to be home.

 

@Yurikun wow that's awesome! Please post her here when you get her I would love to see her >w< I so want an SDM Shiratori (I have the SD version though she is just a floating head right now. One of my favorite/grail sculpts) but I haven't seen any on the MP. Maybe I'll have to look on Y!J or something?
Anyway I'm not sure I've posted here before - I think maybe I only posted in the Midi-specific thread. But here are my current two babbies, SDC Kaede with a custom faceup & SDM F-30 boy with a Volks faceup. I got them both secondhand but hopefully I'll get a Midi through the FCS sometime. I want a sunlight skin girl

@TheBodyVolcanic, what cuties, I love their sense of style. And sunlight mini girls are super cute, hope you can get one!

Somehow didn't notice it until today but I'm so glad there's a unified Volks mini thread now, it makes complete sense! The SDC, MSD and SDM lines certainly have a shared audience and many common features. The folks over on the shared large Volks doll thread always have such a great time discussing part swapping, line differences and engineering, aesthetics, and all that good stuff between various lines.

Chini was looking a little neglected so I gave her an alpaca to hold.

 

I did my first Volks USA FCS order back in May and she arrived on July 25th, I so happy with her. Please meet my angel, Sakuya.

Oh, I love the F-09 sculpt so much. Your boy is so incredibly handsome! I'm always delighted and amazed how different the sculpt looks with different faceups. My girl is an F-13, basically the same sculpt as F-09 but with removable ears. Here's a pic of her as a Chobit (my OC inspired by the manga by Clamp.)

@merethien, that was wonderful that your friend could help you get Selena 10 years ago. She still looks good after all this time I wanted an F06 10 years ago, but was too timid to find a proxy to make a Sato order, so that's when I got my F09 through Volks USA.

 

Hi all I haven't been to this thread in a while due to a move and boy I've been missing some gorgeous dolls!! Seriously guys, your dolls make me swoon

Has anyone seen the new SDM heads pictured on Volks September collection notice? The F-48 does my head in. Volks has added so many new FCS heads that it's hard to keep a list of what I like. I wish VolksUSA would offer us more of the newer heads in their FCS.

Lolz... those flared denim jeans are left over from like 2004! I remember shopping around them when I first started the hobby & hoping they'd lose the 90s flares soon. XD

 

LOL is right, JennyNemesis!! I thought the the same thing when I saw the flared leg jeans. They were all the rage from Volks back in 2004. I had a pair and paid a fortune for them!!

 

Guess they still couldn't sell em all in 12 years. Well, if you leave anything in your closet long enough, it'll eventually come back in fashion....

 

I appreciate the impromptu F09 party that happened on this page and lmao at those retro jeans...

Regarding how many FCS heads Volks now has out (none of the post-2012 ones being on Angelden...and yet it's still the best place for English speakers to easily see all the FCS head in one place ;; ), the FCS catalogue should have them all in one place, so when scans of that pop up as they surely will, we can see them all at once finally!

Thank you! She is normally on the MSD body but in the picture I hybrided her torso with an Aquarius doll (light brown) torso and Volks MSD arms and legs.
