Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

@RamenDoodles I had heard of wiring and I do want to try that too! Well I checked my guide and it only has a half page with the SDC on it. It just has the diagram but nothing more helpful than that. If your guide is more detailed, I would appreciate having access to it! Thanks for the translation tip too!

Also as @RamenDoodles said I'd confirm that 1 string for arms and 1 string for body is definitely correct.

And I took individual photos of the steps plus the One-Touch instructions and put everything in an album on my Flickr here. I hope this helps! This is from my Ren’s book, and she was released at the same Dolpa as Miko, so fingers crossed this is what you need.

 

@RamenDoodles Thank you so much!!! Miko doesn't have anything for the tension band like in the diagram - I am assuming it would be on his head cap or the inside of his head?

 

Are you talking about inside the headcap? The old style dolls including Kaede had a rubber band to keep the headcap on, all the rest have the Schpitt magnets so you don’t need to worry about that part.

 

If you want the legs to be a little tighter I'd recommend not using one long string for both but instead two shorter ones and string each leg on a separate string. Doesn't make any difference regarding how many strings are sitting on the big neck s-hook but the elastic is shorter and thus, doesn't stretch as far as longer elastic.

@Khell Ooooh that is a good idea. Do you think tighter legs will help him stand better?

 

@jessholy Not sure about SDC - I got one but he's sitting in my cabinet with his MSD buddy - but it did help a ton with my Iplehouse EID. That guy went from "ha, you wanna make me stand? good luck!" to "I'm standing like a rock now". So I guess it might help with other dolls, too. I got most of my dolls strung like that and they all stand pretty nicely, especially the Volkses.

 

Tighter elastic has definitely helped our SDCs! They do tend to still be a little feisty, but a bit of sueding can definitely help with that as well.

 

Thank you everyone for all your advice! I am going to have to buy a stringer before I get started on this project. Do you recommend I buy new elastic as well? I think I can use the same S-hooks and what not. Besides losing his paper work and the chain off his jacket, I don't think anything has been changed about him since his first owner got him in 2006! (Or was it 2005?)

 

@jessholy Buying new elastic would be a good idea.

Hi! I recently bought a SDM Coordinate model in Mandarake but there were no specifications. I am guessing it is F-33 by looking closely at some photos of this sculpt. Can someone please help confirm this?

 

Is she the new standard Momo? I am looking for SDC Mina and this doll looks so much like her!

 

Her name is Momo but she is a SDC Mina, so sorry for the confusion!

@eland I think you are absolutely right. She is F-45. I placed the photo of the link you sent side-by-side the one I bought. And indeed they look like the same doll! Mine is just white skin but it resembles the one in your link. I need to find out more about the skintones that were released for F-45 to double confirm.

.... There's usually a number inside the head cap, you may check it after receiving her.

@zankitsu it does look very similar! They often release the coordinate models in different skin tones. Like xxxsaturnxxx says, you will see the sculpt number inside the head when you receive her.

@eland Thank you! I am very excited to own her! I do not know much about Volks sculpts so this will be my first that has the "numbers".

On a different note, I would like to share my first SDC and she is May! Mandarake sent her to me like new. I love the way they take care to package her. My biggest regret is I hesitated to buy both May and Mina. Now, I cannot find Mina at the wonderful price point she was offered. I've been forever looking.

Anyway, here is my SDC May!

It’s been so long since Volks has given us a new SDC mold, my wallet is half afraid there’ll be new ones around the corner.

 

@RamenDoodles May is worth having especially if you want to complete your SDC collection. She is so sweet and alluring at the same time! I'll probably keep her as is for now but I plan to restyle her. Volks dolls are more fun when restyling.

 

I LOVED Mina and May when they came out and I tried to buy one during the after sale but my payment didn't go through. I actually bought BOTH of them! And now I have twins! Mina/May are so cute!!! I'm glad you got one!

 

@Chehime Wow you have both of them! I really, really wanted to but I was not fast enough to place Mina on my cart too. I hope to find her soon.

 

My SDM girl arrived! Indeed, she is SDM F-45! I love her white skin and sparkling eyes. I named her Kristalle. Here she is!

 

Kristalle is gorgeous! Her eyes really do sparkle and brighten her sweet face! Congrats!

 

Thank you @Aiko-chan! I always have that feeling of awe each time I open a Volks box, new or used. Kristalle is especially amazing! I'm happy I found her when I did.
