Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

May 24, 2016

    1. Hello! I am new to owning actual Volks dolls but I do have one MSD that I would like to share! While I didn't win the latest Volks USA lottery, I did manage to win a Hewitt from Kyoto 17's online lottery. I've had him since late September and I was anxious about posting any photos of him - I didn't want to come off as a braggart. But seeing all the excitement over in the SD thread made me think twice and I wanted to share him with you! I promise to make a proper box opening thread (once I figure out if videos are allowed - I made a video of opening him instead of the traditional photos) but for now I will share a photo of him in our local park - he managed to come away unscathed!

One of these days I will figure out how to style his wig like in his official photos but for now he has to put up with my pathetic attempts.:sweat

    2. @jessholy Congratulations on your one off Hewitt. Love to see more of his face-up. I am a big Hewitt fan and have two.

    5. Thank you so much! I am going to make a box opening thread for him so I will put close up photos of his face-up there. Let me know if you would like more! I tried to do it in natural light so you could see it better.

Thanks! I love his whole outfit - in natural light you can see how the whites are different shades. I want to trade out the brown boots for white ones but I haven't found the right pair yet.

    7. @amandabuns So-o-o-o cute!:whee: I just adore the older sculpts...they have so much unique charm and “Volks-ness” about them. They are very special indeed. Your new girl is absolutely adorable and that hoodie is to die for!

    8. @PoeticSoul thank you so much! And I know exactly what you mean by Volks-ness haha :D

    9. VolksUSA posted the first page for the Dolpa 44 after event lottery
      Dolls Party 44 After Event

Anyone trying for Eric or Gilbert?

    10. I tried my friend's 18mm glass eyes before, it's too big and can't put into the socket. I think I can try 9/16 mm. Thank you :D:D

    11. @Ar_Sugar f-48 tend to have a big eyes shape, from what I remember when visited volks shop last time (To pick up a CN model for my friend) You could try 18mm or a little big 16mm of zoukeimura (By volks) should fit with no problem.

    12. That is a gorgeous wig! And it looks really cute on him. ❤️ What wig is that?

    13. I might. I haven't quite decided, because I just ordered another doll; it's not even 2021 yet and I've already broken my vow to cut back. :sweat

So much cuteness, though! <3 I hope some DoA members snag them.

    14. @spindlewood - It's a Luts wig, I think they called the color bubblegum something

    15. @Kim I liked how it looked on them - works well with the blue eyelashes!

I finally was able to get one of my favorite FCS sculpts this year!
My new SDMB F-45 arrived safely yesterday.
I'm really happy I was able to get a lot of dolls from my wishlist this year hahaha.

I originally was going to shell him into one of my existing OCs, but I am starting to feel like changing that original plan.

    17. He’s absolutely precious @pleiades ! I love how he’s styled, too!

Somehow I managed to grow my doll family this year, too.....didn’t expect that! It’s those cute lil faces. :love

    18. Happy new year! May it be a good one for you all.

I felt a bit nostalgic so photographed my second ever Volks girl, Ariadne, a FCS MSD F19 I adopted at Tenshi no Sato in 2009. With her is a small purple cat named Mabyn and a black and white cat named Marissa.

    20. Thank you! It’s been a tough year for many so here’s hoping 2021 brings the joy to many this year. I hope you have a wonderful 2021:aheartbea

    22. Good luck! Eric is precious and the outfits are indeed adorable. I hope he comes home to you.

    23. OMG! I forgot to post my twins! Charlotte and Edwina! They are Volks SDC Mina and May.

    26. Congratulations @Reynardine !! Eric has such an adorable face, please share photos once he arrives home!

@MilkyTea and @Chehime I love both of your twins! The only thing better than one cutie is twin cuties!

    27. Here’s my Gilbert I received via proxy this past week!

      [IMG]Untitled by the.linea.alba, on Flickr

Eric will be coming home from VolksUSA in March, so the two will be together. I’ve always loved the SDM bodies, but these two boys have especially nice facial sculpts.

    28. Your Gilbert is so cute!I hope I can add him to my own doll family soon.

    29. I agree! He is so so cute! And having both together will be a cuteness overload, can’t wait to see pics!

    31. So many great dolls and enlightening posts. Though I have a question, has anyone ever looked at their msd, sdm, sdc resin child and tried to hybrid their head with a body from another company? Similar size range as msds go. I've got a sdm kira head that I'd like to give a bit more than the usual volks sdm body offers. Any ideas?

    32. Congratulations to the lottery winners! :)

There are now left over Gilbert’s and Eric’s available on Volks International site. They are both really cute! Must resist the temptation!

    33. Is anyone else participating in the SD Happy Birthday relay on Twitter? I got all my girls together and made this for the event :)

    34. @RamenDoodles Wow, what a great group photo! All your dolls are adorable.

I am not participating in the SD Happy Birthday on Twitter but would like to say to everyone: Happy Lunar New Year! Here is my Analiese (SDM Yugiri) with Rose and Mizu. The red ribbon symbolises how we are all one even when the ties between us are loose and the connections frayed. The many colour symbolise various things but it seems the aqua-blue is "positive energy" which seems especially important considering the current circumstances. May the new lunar year bring you all peace.

    35. @elphsnt Analiese is gorgeous! I love the positive thoughts you've put into the photoshoot and I hope you will have a wonderful and peaceful year as well. <3

Happy Lunar New Year from me as well! Finally paying some doll-tax after months and months of just admiring all the photos here. Here are my f-20 and f-40~

I didn't actually have the opportunity to wear my own traditional hanbok this year, but I did manage to sneak in some time to get my dolls dressed for the occasion. I hope everyone gets to enjoy some Lunar New Year luck, and I hope all the new dolls in transit have a swift and safe arrival!

    36. Thank you! Your two are beautiful and I love their posing. The details on your F40's sleeves are also especially lovely.

And, I echo your sentiment about safe arrivals. May everyone's new dolls enjoy their travels and come home safely with stories of all their traveling adventures.

    38. Thanks so much! I can’t explain it but Analiese (SDM Yugiri) warms my heart :aheartbea

    39. I recently got the Petale de Rose MSD set in the mail and put it on my Hewitt. While I am not quite ready to share photos yet, I do want to share a tip for getting the sleeves through the jacket sleeves! If you have some clear rubber bands or any small thin rubber band, you can wrap it once around the wrist, then once more around the thumb. It shouldn't be too tight but it will help you get the sleeve end through the jacket without too much trouble!

    40. Anyone have severe mold blindness with all the FCS molds available now? I realized today that the doll I had on layaway is NOT the mold I thought it was :sweat The seller advertised it correctly, and the pictures are gorgeous... but I was one number off when I was searching for an F-21 Mold... seems I'm getting an F-22. :kitty1 It's all good, the doll is so cute, and I'm naming her "Torikku" because she's such a trickster.

I feel kinda stupid, and I wonder if anyone has made such a mistake! I'm usually so good about discerning molds but the MSD line is one I'm not as familiar with, and I'm not even sure what number they go up to now. I know both F-21/F-22 are discontinued and seems F-22 is a little harder to track down... I think?! I gave myself a good laugh when I made the realization. Happily awaiting my little neko F-22~ Maybe one day the F-21 sister <3

    41. @Dybbuk Me too! have a severe mold blindness when it come to some very similar fcs mold. Just told my self that they 'might' originally designed to be brother/sister sculpt

Also, congratulation for your new f-22 girl. Please share some of her picture when she arrived:3nodding:

    42. Oh I love F-22 such a cute mold. I have an F 22 and I love her so much. I can’t wait to see your new girl^^

      • x 1
    43. @xxxsaturnxxx : I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I feel there are some super distinctive molds, but I never realized how similar some could look. I can't wait to get her in... she's a doll mold I've never ever wanted :XD: but I am kind of excited to experiment with her and she is coming with a lovely faceup.

@Yurikun : Thank you so much! I'm having such a hard time finding other owners to look at pics! I may check out your threads and try to see other F22! What ears do you have on yours?

Does Volks sell fairy ears separately, or you must order a Fairy FCS to be able to order the parts?

    44. Your welcome. Yeah it is hard to find pics of her/him.I hope you can find some. I could post a pic of mind. If you would like to see her. I have the long thin elf ears on mine.

    45. Oh please do! <3 I am looking for inspiration for her look <3

    46. @Dybbuk Oh it definitely happens! I like to think that it's also because there are so many expressive FCS molds that can look so different depending on the face-up and camera angle - which is something I love about Volks molds. :3nodding:

And congrats!! I love the F-22 and I hope you'll post some photos to show how she transforms in your hands!

    47. @Dybbuk It's kind of like a meet-cute from a rom com! Maybe she'll become your new favourite doll!

      • x 1
    48. @SoapBubbles This is so true! Honestly I don't think I even like a Volks mold until I see a different photo/faceup and them I'm sold and in love. It's why they're so dangerous! Kinda scared to look at more...

@kuro hahaha that idea is so precious! Actually before I knew I made a mistake, I had no idea what concept I wanted...and then after I realized my mistake I knew exactly how I wanted her :XD: I think you might be onto something!

    49. @Yurikun She is so cute! Love the light pink wig color on her! Thank you for sharing your sweet fairy... Now I really can't wait to get her shipped. :kitty1

    50. Thank you. I knew I wanted her as soon as she was released. I really love that wig on her as well. It fits her perfectly. I hope you get your little girl soon. I hope you will take pics of her when you get her. Your welcome.I would love to see more F22s around^^

    51. @Yurikun : Thank you so much! I bought her an outfit today! I got the Ayakashi-no-Kimono set from Volks and also splurged on the cute kitty tail and wristlets they sell separately. :shudder haha...I really needed some supplies from Volks so that was my excuse to tack on an extra $100 hahaha

I can't wait to get her and share photos! Until then I'm going to look at your girl and all the F22s I find so I can be inspired! :chibi

    52. I need some advice. I decided to buy an SDC Miko off of Mandarake. He arrived safe and sound but he flops about like a fish. Dressing him was like dressing a toddler who wants to run around naked. How do I restring a Volks SDC? Do they use one elastic for the whole body? Is it separate elastics for the legs, arms and torso? I just want to make sure I do it right - this is the first time I've had to restring a doll so any advice is welcome!

    53. I don’t have any boy SDCs but the girls are pretty simple. Did your boy come with his papers? Volks actually includes a restringing guide. But to answer your question, there is one elastic for the arms and a longer one for the body, head to feet. If you’d like I can scan a restringing guide for you when I get home from work tonight if that would be helpful.

Edited to add - my girls are notoriously floppy, but I’ve started sueding them with actual suede and the difference is incredible! They can actually hold poses now!

      • x 1
    54. @RamenDoodles Sadly, he did not come with his papers. I do have papers for my FCS SDGr - would there be a guide in there for an SDC? If not, then I would deeply and greatly appreciate a scan of your restringing guide!

Aaaah so I will need 2 elastics then - one for the arms and one for the head to feet, got it! Thank you for answering that!
Oooh I will have to keep in mind that he might need sueding, even with new strings, thank you!

    55. Wiring can help with arm posing, too :) I have a feeling the stringing guide for an SDGr would be very similar to an SDC if you’ve got that! But I have no problem sharing what I’ve got. The guide is all in Japanese but if you have the Google Translate smartphone app, you can use your phone’s camera to translate on the fly.
