Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls)

May 24, 2016

    1. Oh my isn't that "Devilman"? I haven't seen one in a long time! Your Cyndy is just so stunning!

    2. Only a lot.

Yes, he is the Devilman Akira. I got him at the VolksUSA store closing event in Torrence in 2014.

And thanks. Cyndy was a bit of an impulse buy, but zero regrets :P

    3. my hoshi just got her suri alpaca fibers yesterday so i made her wig!
she's a super dollie midi Hina

    4. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I just purchased my first Volks MSD, an old F-12/Miisha/Shinshiya/Whatever-you'd-like-to-call-her!

I was in an absolutely ruthless Y!J auction for one a few days ago that lasted for almost two hours on auto-extension. I lost, but then I was fortunate enough to snag one from the marketplace here on DoA! She has a slightly yellowed head but I think she will shine up well! :D I can't wait to post pictures of her! For now, I will just admire all of your beauties!

    6. I think this is the thread to post this in but about a month ago I bought a Volks Baron. He been stuck in shipping limbo hence Japan mail problems. So if he ever arrives :) You will all get to see him quite a bit. Very little info is known about him. But he's like the coolest doll volks has made!

    7. Can anyone share photos of their SDM with 14mm or 12mm eyes? The standards come with 16mm. I took a risk and ordered some 14mm.
Do I just put her head in the freezer to remove the eye glue?

    8. @Melly123
I'd like to know how to remove the eye glue, too - without ruining the make up :huh?:

    9. @Melly123 @Flaxen Hair Girl

[There might be another way to do this please only take as reference]

About removing eye glue : I use 1 chopstick and 1 glove.

      - Separate the head from the body

      - Put on glove at hand you will use to hold the head and use a chopstick(Prefer slim but durable type) to push the eye from the front of head. Keep pushing and the eye should pop out.

      * This could be a little danger, please be sure that your hand are holding still or ask for someone to help. When I done this last time there are 3 volks dolls with 3 people so we help each other.

      - After all eyes pop out, keep it away and look at the glue inside the head, you may able to peel it off with bare hand (From inside), if you could not, warm it up a bit using small dryer and try again.

      * Take your time and don't rush, if the eyes already pop out she/he should be safe. Keep discarding glue bit by bit until you're satisfy.

Ps. I will... try to find and upload if there are some picture. Also about the 14mm eyes (I don't have 12mm though)

    10. I'd recommend to get a hairdryer, set it on the heated setting (so it blows warm air) and point it at the inside of the head. That'll soften the hot glue so you can peel it off bit by bit. Worked very well for my Ryoma Sakamoto head. It'll take a while to get everything out, though.

    11. @Melly123 @Flaxen Hair Girl
I use Tamiya acrylic thinner to remove the glue. It doesn't damage anything, and it's super easy. Just use a brush to tap the thinner around the glue, then gently pull the glue away from the eyes. I use hemostats to pull the glue out after it softens.

    12. Hi!
Thank you so much all for the tips and info. My main trouble is that, when trying to remove the glue, I could accidentally remove also the eyelashes :sigh
I need to find the courage to try one of your methods :XD:
      TX!

    13. thank you for the great ideas! I will update with results. I have 3 girls to remove eyes once the new ones come. :)

    14. Anyone else order during the last FCS period and starting to feel a little antsy knowing their shipment is probably going to be delayed?

    15. @Flaxen Hair Girl I recently removed glue from my Shiro Tachibana DP9 head (he's at least 13 years old) by sticking the head in the freezer for an hour or 2. Then I would use tweezers and wiggle around the glue until it got loose, then stick back in the freezer - wash and repeat! The eyelashes didn't come off, just the glue and the eyes with it (which were easy to remove from the glue as well).

let me know if you need any help :)

    16. Nice! Thanks for the tip!

    17. I did! I know the shipment was scheduled for July, but with all the delays I'm not expecting mine until at least August. It sucks but I know they're doing their best and we just have to be patient.

    18. I've just taken a load of photos of my dolly shelves, and one of them is my small gang of MSDs...so I can share...

They weren't posed specially and I've just noticed that Maria has turned banana yellow, plus Albert's face is completely hidden (he's a sunlight F10). Some of them need new faceups as well...

So they are, along the back: 2 F06s - Noel and Phillis-Jane, SDM Liz - Lizzie, MSD Ken - Simon, Tsubaki - Victor, Maria, F20 - Freddy and F10 - Albert. In front are Toppi - Charlotte and Mihmi - Miriam...

    20. Alice, they are wonderful! ❤️

    21. The freezer way works!
With a bit of patience, I could remove the hot glue, with no damage!
      My girl looks perfect now!
Thank you, @PinkBear! Thank you all for useful tips!

    22. @Flaxen Hair Girl I'm so glad it worked and you were able to achieve what you wanted for your girl. She is darling <3

    23. I absolutely ADORE your girl! :D I'm waiting on an F-40 from Volks USA

    24. @La Sultana

Thank you! She's my first Volks and I find her second-hand.The first owner really took good care of her, she's in like-new conditions.
I'm becoming addicted to Volks, if it wasn't so hard to find them in Europe, I'm sure I'd have many more :3nodding:
You'll love your F-40, such a pretty mold!

    25. You all have some great tips in this thread! I’ve been away from the hobby for several years, but now it looks like the FCS for this size has really grown! The sculpts are so cute!
I have a few SDCutes, so I’ll share my girl, Michele, from 2004. I just freshened up her faceup for summer. (Now she’s buttery fresh, lol)

    26. @Aiko-chan what a cutie! I’ve never wanted a Kaede before but seeing her faceup I’m having second thoughts :whee:
I’d better stay off Mandarake or a Kaede might hop on a plane to Ohio

    27. You’re too sweet! I’m amazed at how much her face can change depending on the faceup.

    28. It’s been a long time since I posted pictures of my volks dolls after I moved! I acquired f-33 and he makes a fine twin with my f-40 :)

      • x 16
    29. @asatou what a great pair they make...twins for the win! I love the way you’ve dressed them in lookalike outfits too. They both look so good!:)

    30. Thank you!!! I really like trying to get matching outfits but out of all my dolls, they probably make the only pair that can pull off twin looks while the other ones are all kinda “take solo pictures for me” lol

    31. @asatou

F-33 and F-40 are my fave sculpts! Your dolls are soooo lovely :love

    32. Thank you! I really like your F-40 too :D it’s great seeing your white skin version of her since mine is Norma skin ^^

    33. I finally brought my dream girl home! Say hello to Dani, my gorgeous SDC Renèe! It’s because of her smiley face that I ended up bringing home my other SDCs.

    34. Congrats! She’s just the best, isn’t she? :D

    35. She is! In all honesty, I never thought I’d actually be able to get her home, but time makes fools of us all. Her look changes so much just by swapping wig and eyes, it’s crazy! I’m having way too much fun.

    36. Sorry for the double post, but does anyone have the SDC Mina that they’d like to share? I’m particularly interested in Mina with a non-default faceup.

    37. I've got a Mina! She's got her default faceup still but I did change her eyes. She tends to hang around my red-headed Renee :kitty2

    38. @RamenDoodles Your Mina is so cute, congrats on getting her!

    39. @RamenDoodles Mina looks so cute, especially next to your Renee! I feel like Mina’s features couple nicely with Renee’s, too. Thank you for sharing them!

Anyone else have a Mina they want to share? Bonus points for a different faceup. ;)

    40. So I guess this is what happens when you start looking at a sculpt that you think would better fit a character that you’ve got.....welcome home Momo!

I was never quite satisfied with my gretel being Gemma, but then I saw Mina and knew she was the one. Momo is Gemma’s nickname, btw. And this is not her final look. Temporary until I get her wig and such together.

Now I’ve got an extra doll....

      • x 8
    41. Congrats on new doll!!!! Hope you decide on a look for her, are you gonna try to change the eyes too?

      • x 1
    42. @Aiko-chan, what a sweet face! Heartfelt congratulations...she’s fabulous!:)

      • x 1
    43. Thank you both for your congratulations! @asatou I don’t know about eyes, I kind of like the purple ones she’s got now. I guess it’ll depend on how her wig looks with it.

@PoeticSoul Her face is definitely one of the sweetest I’ve ever seen! I feel like her puppy eyes will give way to having way more outfits and things than some of the others, hahaha.

I never planned on having this many SDCutes, let alone dolls in general. I love their size and, even though many may disagree, I love their body style, too. I just wish more outfits were made specifically for them.

My unshelled gretel is becoming something new...I think she’s actually a spirit of some sort. I’m excited to see where her evolution takes her.

    44. @Aiko-chan, I love her purple eyes too...such a beautiful deep color! And what an amazing collection of SDCutes! They truly look gorgeous all lined up like that. You must be very proud indeed.:)

    45. @Aiko-chan
Your collection of SDC dolls is really lovely! Mina is my favorite, she's in my wishlist! Can't wait for her final look, I'm sure she will be super adorable! :love

    46. @Aiko-chan Your SDC collection is so sweet. Such personality and they're adorable!

    47. @Aiko-chan its so nice to see someone else who hoards SDC girls  I have a soft spot for them too. I even put my F-31 on an SDC body cause I just love them so much! Still hoping someday Volks will release a white skin or tan SDC :eusa_pray Until then all I’m missing is Kaede and May. I need to get my girls all together for a group shot. Here’s an older photo from before I got my Sora and Ren. (Just ignore my Harucasting girl haha)

    48. Love all you guy’s group pictures!!! I wonder if my current bodyless Ryoutarou would good in a sdc boy body XD

      • x 2
    49. Thank you all! My plan was to have just one, then I got the twins, then they kept coming! @RamenDoodles Your girls are amazing! Different resin tones would be soooo good! I’d love both white and tan!
@asatou I think a boy Sdc body would be really nice. If I ever got another boy doll, it’d definitely be a Sdc boy.

Does anyone have a place they get clothing for their SDCs from? Besides Volks, but just someplace that fits them a bit better, like an Etsy seller or other site?

    50. Everything I’ve ever gotten from TTYA and Nine9 Style have fit pretty well. I don’t know of any Etsy sellers who specialize in SDC or even MSD anymore, it’s mostly Minifee *_* I also really like the Glitter Girls clothes sold at Target, they’re cheaply made but they’re cute :XD:

      • x 1
    51. Do msd / sdm size clothes fit weird on sdc dolls??? I always thought that it would fit well although maybe a little loose?

    52. MSD pants in particular can be a little too loose for my liking on SDC girls, especially at the waist. Tops aren’t so bad.

    53. @RamenDoodles what a fabulous collection you have! They’re all so cute together...like a real-life group of girls you’d love to hang out with. What fun!:)

      • x 1
    54. @PoeticSoul Thank you! They definitely all have their own personalities, I have a lot of fun posing them together :)

    55. My F52 FCS arrived this week, and I love her! I ordered her blank so I am still in the process of getting her all put together.

      • x 1
    56. Hope to see your finished F52 with custom faceup soon!

    57. That’s so exciting, @Kim ! I’ve never done a FCS doll before but always wanted to. Congratulations on bringing her home!

Dani and Momo have decided to try some colourful wigs for the summer.

    58. Cute wigs!!! Where did you get that car ear doll-sized headband? I don’t have any aquamarine wigs yet, always wanted to get some pastel blue/green ones but haven’t seen any.

    59. Thank you! The headband was a part of the outfit set. It’s “glitter girls” brand and I think it can still be purchased online at target or amazon, if not, I’m sure eBay has it.

As for wigs, I use Etsy a lot, even though it does take some time to dig through there. I love pastel and bright colour wigs but it is hard finding nice ones. These ones are ok, but I usually like a little more heft/thickness at the base.

    60. [IMG]

Still trying to look for a better blonde wig for my boy but he looks good in this outfit and thought I would share :) Too bad I don't really have a matching outfit for my girl XD there's a darker old volks dress that mightttt match but it's super difficult to get her to wear that one....
