I'm really interested in volks dolls because I love their gorgeous faceups, but I really try to collect tan dolls as a personal choice to reflect my identity. Does volks ever release tan resins? I would love to get an MSD tan doll!
All of the FCS heads (any SDM model named after a number, like F-33) can be ordered in tan resin. You can look for examples on Instagram, tagged #sdm_f_33 (change the number to whichever sculpt number you are interested in).
You don't really need to wait for an event—depending on your location, you may need to work with a proxy to place your FCS order. There are also tan SDM Coordinate Models (SDM コーディネートモデル | ボークス公式 ドルフィー総合サイト | 株式会社ボークス) released in Volks stores on a regular basis. There are some proxies that can visit the stores and buy tan Coordinate models for you, if they're still available.
Hello, hello, can somebody help me confirm this doll's identity? I'm pretty sure this is a Renee, but I'd like confirmation. She shows as sold out because I bought her...I've wanted an SDC for a while and figured I'd go for it now, since I couldn't quite make the lottery for Macha and needed to fill the Volks shaped hole in my life
I have both Renee and Sora, and I think this is Sora. Sorry that it's not Renee, but Sora is cute too, and with a nice face-up she'll be a sweetie
And a little dolly tax -- my Renee and Sora, BFFs -- (Hopefully this stays put -- Flickr is being annoying today.) https://live.staticflickr.com/4700/40074321172_1f33282586_c.jpg
Super cute! I'm happy with her whoever she is, I just wanted to make sure (and somehow failed to find all the info on the listing) I'm really looking forward to panting her!
Joining in on the Sora love! I think this was my favorite spread in my catalog dOLiA*s pages 4-5 by Jessicat P, on Flickr
@OneMoreLight and @SaltedPretzel I love Byakuren! We don't see enough of them around but their little faces are so cute! Love the styling of both @nintendallie So much cute! F-60 is absolutely gorgeous in tan @beamlette The peace hands are among my favorite option hands (if they came in sunlight all of my girls would have a pair) and your BFFs are super cute and making great use of them! @RamenDoodles I love her styling!
Thank you! I'm obsessed with "peace" hands (and others) for my dolls. And I like that you still call it "Sunlight"; it's just so much more poetic than plain old "Tan".
It'll be "sunlight" forever! No idea why they decided to change the names and make everything confusing
Omg, I got my Sora and she's so cute! I've heard people say Volks dolls are even better in person, and they're right. Her body is really detailed, I especially like her hands and cute legs. Her face is incredibly cute as well. I really like how much personality even her blank face has. She looks so friendly She came to me with a few stains (and an unholy mess of sticky tack in her head), and was very loosely strung (with rather thin elastic) so I took her apart right away. I cleaned all her parts and restrung her with new elastic. I got a nice suprise in that she was sueded with leather already. Looks very similar to how I would've done it, so I just left it. I'm going to paint her this week-end, I just don't have enough focus for this kind of thing after work, but I did get her look ready!
My Sora has a faceup! For now... Edit: On second thought, the faceup looks better if I don't try to get funky with her hair. So here she is with a more ordinary hair-do! I keep wanting to do more dramatic looks and then I don't love them when they're done. I'll leave it for now though. I also need to get more eyelashes. I only have these long, intense ones left...But she's still cute! Not bad at all for a doll from 2009.
@EagleVision1999, I like seeing an older SDC get a new lease on life. The longer eyelashes work with her; gives her eyes a spark, I think. I also like the wig you had her in when she was blank -- but I'm partial to shorter styles. ^_^
@RamenDoodles Thank you^^ @beamlette I, too, like shorter styles, but I think the pink wig together with this faceup is a little much...the eyelashes are growing on me tho. I'm very glad to have picked this girl, she's lovely.
I Just got my first Volks! This is one of my Grail sculpts! She is a SDC Renee! I love her face so very much. I gave her some green eyes and am experimenting with wigs for her. I think I will need to get her some different hands so she can be more expressive! I think she will be able to wear alot of the same clothes as my Minifees!
She was very hard to find! I had to buy the fullset to get her at all. I really don't need the outfit so its gotta go as I am running out of room to store doll accessories!
I adopted this precious little F-19 girl last week. I really love how one side of the mouth curls up higher than the other. The custom faceup she came with is gorgeous too! Getting the feeling that I've made a bit of a mistake because I kind of want another SDM girl... I also apparently underestimated the size of her noggin, because none of the wigs I have actually fit properly. Every single wig I have is either too small or too big... This purple wig is secured to her head by the power of the bonnet, otherwise it'd slip right off. It is absolutely not her colour, but least she's not bald lmao
JinHyuk my hewitt got a new sweater today! its from clairetronicbjd on instagram and its so soft! I made his hat tho.
Here I am again, just barely a month later... Yet another bonneted girl! I thought a festive photo was in order lol Couldn't resist Noa's cute little face, or this gorgeous dress! She and her wig need a little bit of TLC, I'm hoping her faceup will clean up nicely, I don't want to have to remove it. Now I really need to name these two girls...
She’s truly lovely, and I love her wig/eye combination with that gorgeous gown. What a beautiful presentation.
Thank you! I'm shocked she came together so well! That's a world first in my collection lol. Her entire ensemble was just patiently waiting on Dollyteria to be put together. Her eyes are a bit deceptive - they're actually this lovely emerald green, but they're terrible at picking up light! Even if I shine a flashlight directly into them they still don't light up very well.
Oops I accidentally fell in love with the standard model Momo. Her little open mouth is so cute! I know they are retiring the current standard model, I wonder how long it will take for them to be phased out!
This might be a silly question, but is the Volks Four Sisters head mold available for Midi girls or Super Dollfie Cute?
They were released as limited edition girls on the midi body awhile back in both the regular and dreaming versions. I believe it was Kira (regular) and Nana (sweet dreams). I have the Nana and she’s adorable. You should be able to find them secondhand.
I recently welcomed an Ian and she's even cuter than I expected. This isn't her final look but nothing else on-hand fits her so she'll be white-headed for a bit. She went to make friends with the cats at our local cat cafe
@Chibi_Rat, congratulations on getting an Ian! She looks adorably mischievous How did you get her to sit up by herself? That's something my Ian won't do -- yet.
Thank you! She totally is mischievous (stealing the YoSD clothes and all) She just snaps into and holds this sitting position. Maybe tightening the elastic might help? My girl doesn't stand very well but sitting has been no issue at all. Thank you! I hope you're able to hunt one down someday, they are so unique and full of cute
I've seen them pop up periodically but the timing has always been financially inconvenient! I did manage to get a Taisho Romance Megu recently though and she was another on the list.
I've been thinking about SDCs and how cute and fun they are and wondering why Volks hasn't released one in so long, let alone a standard one. The bodies are versatile and open up a whole world of characters for hobbyists and thus, good for profits for Volks but they just dedicate releases only for the SDM. Is there a reason why Volks doesn't promote or use the SDC body more? If anyone has theories too, I'd love to hear them
I have one of every girl (and a couple MSD/SDM heads on SDC bodies) and I love them to bits. Every time a new Dolpa comes around I hope for and hope against a new one being released It would be nice to see even a re-release of the older SDCs since with Mina, May, and black cat Renee, they improved the shoulder joint. As to why they haven’t? No clue
@PinkBear, I think generally the more recent releases of SDC (Mina, May, 2nd ed. Renee) didn't sell well. I noticed them lingering on the Volks Japan webstore a while after their releases. And I think Hansel and Gretel weren't a success either. Volks may have decided that there was no point in making dolls that didn't sell out quickly, which I think also applies to some types in their SD range, too. Plus, other companies' slim minis sell better, since their issues are more readily available than Volks', and they're more mature looking body-wise than SDC . I think it's a shame, as I like the SDC body, but... they are a business, and the bottom line dictates things.
@PinkBear I only own SDC, but had experienced with all 1/4 Volks body (MSD, SDM and SDC... Oh except the DearSD). So, I also agree that I like their body the most. Two things that I can confirm while talking to Volks's staff in Tenshi no Sato is that the sculptor of most SDC sculpt is the same person/team and that is different from the team that sculpt MSD heads. (Not sure why they have to separate them ) And that they are not discontinue but when will they release another SDC is unknown. Maybe it's a business thing, like what @beamlette said. I had a high hope when the new Journey to the Dream Night series this year feature a 1/4 scale... well... Turn out it's an SDM Btw, here's my SDC Gretel enjoying her summer night in my room
Thank you beamlette for this insightful reply. That's a shame that the SDC's don't sell better than the SDM's but I can see what you mean about other companies offering more mature 1/4s that suit the majority of people looking for that style; i.e. more mature like a Fairyland Minifee. I guess it's not worth the marketing to promote an SDC as much as an SDM or other dolls. Maybe the right collaboration, like a Disney or licensed character that needs to be 1/4 with a more mature body might help? I didn't know that they were separate, that is really interesting and a little odd? Yes, I was hoping for a new SDC release too but SDM's are quite popular now (think I just answered my own question!) Your Gretel is so pretty !
Ryo Asuka makes a cute girl, I think. I've had her a while now, but I finally managed to get hold of the back wings and now she finally feels complete! That dress your Gretel is wearing is gorgeous! (of course your Gretel is as well!)
i missed my hewitts gotcha day so here he is hanging out with me in the hewitt 3rd outfit i found secondhand
Hi! Sorry if this is unwelcome. I've been searching the forums and can't find the info anywhere else. Does anyone know what size of S hook the heads use? My friend has an old MSD and he's got the rubber band instead of magnets. She unstrung him to pack and his S hook got lost. We're confident he's legit and he's got an 8 in his head/headcap, if the specific head matters. We don't know anything past that. He was a secondhand purchase (with the metal head plate- he's legit). Between that and being left at a relative's house for years, a lot has been lost and so we're not sure what we actually need to restring him the right way. Also, do the older msds run elastic through the metal hand pieces or are there supposed to be s hooks there too? I've found the Volks USA listing for the msd hooks but we're hoping to avoid shipping, if we can.
Msd is the size to get. Are you in the USA? Volks USA has a set of them in stock along with a new Rubber band. They also have the Msd size Elastic String. S-Hook SetMSD If you are overseas I would use the Online store in Japan. 金具パーツセットMSD Yes. You string little S hooks in the hands and feet to attach the elastic. I have an older Msd Fsc F-08. Volks also sells stringing tools for Msd. Here is an old thread about stringing an older Msd. /threads/building-volks-miisha-f-12-msd-kit-complete.452747/ Here is a Video restringing older Msd.
I would grab a few things from Volks to make the shipping worth it. Domestically for some small things it would be less than $10 in my experience. So what I would get is a new set of hooks, a new set of strings, and a small pitatto ring because that will help the headcap stay on and help with wigs as a bonus. I just found the rubber bands very very fiddly with my one that has them and this is much better imo. You don’t need a stringing tool but it does help.
@ginarolo Thank you! I'd found that thread, but wasn't sure it was the same body. I've got no experience with these dolls I'll make sure we get some s hooks. I think the previous owner left them off, because this boy doesn't have any. @amandabuns Thanks for the recommendation- wasn't sure what that was. I'll snag one of those and the set. It sounds like we need more specific parts than I hoped, and I only want to do this once. Thank you! Edit- for anyone curious, no, we did not get the doll together.
I love this style, she looks so cute! What eyes are those, they are so pretty? I’m thinking about getting pink eyes.
@Sweetiemi Thank you And about the eyes, It's Sadol urethane, Basic Planet no.3 Sadol have their english website which you can order the exact same eyes, but I got this pair from Dolk store front in Akihabara.
I recently picked up this Nyusszdesign boy outfit and my Noa looks absolutely ADORABLE in it! I've now got I think 3 outfits from them and every single one is so cozy feeling and wonderful!
Hi, does anybody know which brand's hands are compatible with Volks' MSD bodies? I would like to swap my doll's current hands with ones that look a bit more mature. I'd appreciate any help, thank you!
What is up with the sculpted-on wig stopper on the newest SDM heads? Does anyone have any idea how it looks with flatter wigs, especially ones that are parted without bangs? I must have missed it in the specifications for the 10th Anniversary SDMs, I've been really wanting Coco but I only just now saw a photo of her bald and now I'm questioning my desire to get her lol. I'm assuming I'll have to sand that entire bump off of her head if I want to use a flatter wig made with a thinner fiber than what Volks normally does.
I got an SD Alto recently with the same wig stoppers and it’s more of a hinderance than a help. When it works, it works well, but it’s frustrating when it doesn’t. I’ve started my “yearbook” project by taking some school portraits of my SDC crew. Here’s Maaya (SDC Renee), you can find the rest on my Flickr. JSD Academy School Portraits by Jessicat P, on Flickr
