Volks Mini Super Dollfie discussion Part 2

eleniel, he is sooooo sweet! I was thinking of getting an F-29 to be my robot boy, I just love those ears, and people rarely use them! Your boy...he is tempting me!

 

I got lucky last week. Found a Volks Kurt on Mandarake - hope this is the right thread? An almost full-set, he's missing his box, papers and hat/beret but everything else is original, even the face-up. He just arrived here. It's amazing how different he is from my MSDs. Much smaller head and he's a little taller, too. He looks great next to my Minifee girl and that's great because he can be her White Knight (for my "Wonderland Crew").

Also, LOVE his default face-up and his froggy hands and arms. He's such a cutie! I'll have to take him apart and clean him (he's a little dirty in his joints - not surprised, considering he's almost 10 years old) and restring him. Totally in love with that little guy.

 

I love Kurt. I really regret selling mine. I was eyeballing the one on Madarake as well. Congratulations!

Kurt is actually an SDC, not an MSD. So the best thread for him is the Super Dollfie Cute discussion thread.

My Michan is an F21 MSD/SDC hybrid. I love the SDC bodies.

I hate butting into this lovely thread, but I was wondering if any of you happen to know if Volks USA will reopen their FCS? I am debating whether to get a MSD or another SD (or BOTH lol), and just want to collect the funds

Also, have any of you tried using American Girl props, like the beds or furniture, for your MSDs? I have been looking at some cute stuff, but want to make sure it does not look awkward with a MSD...

I personally think they won't be opening the Online FCS until October at the earliest, just because the staff is probably under major stress with the Dolpa coming up in LA. I would also factor in that they will be doing an online event for the Coordinated Sets that they will be showcasing at the Dolpa, so that could put off the next FCS for another month depending on what they meant in the Dolpa description by "later". Good luck on getting a new doll (Volks dolls so worht it...especially the MSDs and Midi which I have both and adore!), it will be open again by the end of this I'm certain, but it is anyone's guess when. Not sure on the proportions for American Girl compared to MSD, some of the stuff would probably work as far as like furniture, but again, depending on what it is, it could look quite big comparatively, I will let someone who has more experience as I have only "borrowed" (stolen) something from my little sister to try for mine, so not much variety there lol. (I gave the item back...eventually >.>)

P.S.- Wish I had the money for Volks when I was a college freshman!

I have been asked a few times to post pictures of my boys...but I just haven't had time to actually take decent pictures ;,; Someday soon I will, hopefully just before or after Dolpa if I convince myself to go!

 

Thank you for that insight! I thought the Dolpa passed but I see it's in September...(facepalm!). Then that is perfect! I don't mind waiting, I just don't want to miss the last FCS if this is the only year they'd do it! Hopefully not

I actually wasn't a freshman when I got my doll XD I have tried asking the mods if I could change my username, but they denied my request XD It feels really awkward posting because of it, but ultimately it's my fault for picking it out XD *sigh* But I am extremely grateful to have parents that don't mind if I splurge on some stuff! Of course, I worked to earn the money! (Although I feel indifferent about someone buying their doll, or being gifted one As long as they appreciate the beautiful piece of art they got! ) I am no longer a freshman, so I apologize for that confusion! hahaha! But have loved these dolls since 9th grade! XD

I really wish all the Mini threads were combined in the same way the SD's are. It'd make deciding where to post this girl a lot easier.

I saw this girl and fell in love~ I should have bought her when I had the chance but her condition scared me a bit. Now I'm regretting it but I would like to know at least what sculpt she is.

Soooo, seems like a hiatus from DoA means lots of people get new dolls if the other Volks thread is anything to go by....with the help of a person or two around here, I managed to grab a pipe dream doll, I never thought I'd get my hands on!

I couldn't pass up the chance! So now, I have an MSD F16 boy in WS on the way, and I can't wait to see him in person, and join him with the body which came to me by miracle, which is from the same year as him, lucky me for some great DOA members!

 

Wow, he is really lovely and a great match, thank you for sharing! I really want to send him out for Faceup right away, but I will post him completed before I do so I think.

I am kinda glad I got him now, because I knew eventually I would go out looking for him, and it would be hard to find him unless I managed to get an order in for a special event at Sato or something. He is the last sculpt that I wanted from the earlier sculpts, now I have my eyes of F38 (in sunlight) and F41 (WS)....I really should get one girl from Volks (which would be the only girl in my collection), I've always wanted to do an Alice type character, maybe I will use F-20 if they still offer it next year!

 

My volks F-11 boy arrived today, but his monkey ears don't stay in. Do you need to putty, or something to make them stay in?

That Baron...so cheap right now...if that high bidder ends up winning, they will get such a rare doll at a steal! I am really tempted, but I already have a surprise doll coming this month, and I don't need another (particularly since I bought the head and the body and then the body I really wanted, so...now I have an extra girl body I need to sell which I wasn't expecting...)!

 

Well, looks like I was the last one to post, but since it was ages ago now, I am posting again because this thread gets no love!

My FCS is already done I only just placed the order less 2 months ago, so Volks always seems to be ahead of schedule (Even when I made three orders at once!). He got a faceup too, as all my boys do from Sato, so very much ahead of schedule, but oh well, I just get my boy faster now! All I have right now is a picture in random lighting with no ears from my friend who does my orders, so I will wait until he gets here to post a proper pic.

 

Congratulations Artemos...that's very exciting new indeed! I can't wait to see him. And you're so right, this thread isn't getting the love it so richly deserves. These dolls are so awesome! I'm in the midst of styling my girl I just adopted from the marketplace (a Sato F-07) and she should be ready for photos in a couple of days or so. (I do all the cooking around here so the holiday really slows down my dolly projects.) But just as soon as she's finished and I can do a photo shoot, I'll be posting her here.

I didn't update on my MSD F-16, he got here, and thanks to a wonderful DoA member, the boy body I bought at a steal, matched his head to perfection. It very much looks like his body, with no resin difference, so I am very glad for that! He needs a new face and some eyes, he has a wig though, being that he is my only unfinished and secondhand Volks boy, I want to take extra care of him!

Oooh, I love all the spam btw! It is helping my (short) tedious wait for my new F-22 robot eared boy, so thanks for sharing all!

My F21 and F09 are looking a little too innocent tonight. These girls may be up to something. Has anyone else ever suspected MSD carries the secretive double meaning, 'mischievious super dollfie...?' :p



This size is so fun to handle. As much as I love the aesthetics of my SDs and tinies, MSD chunkiness feels great to hold and pose in an especial way. I think...I may need more x--x maybe a serious and mature-for-his-age F35 boy to keep an eye on these two. Yeah. Someday.

 

I just won a MSD F-34 head on Y!Japan and even managed to snagged a SDM body for her from here for a decent price. I'm anxiously checking the mail, so hopefully she'll be here soon.

After getting a SDM body for another one of my dolls, I've be addicted since. It's so much easier to sew for with the lower torso joint. No more weird folds in outfits around the midsection.

Anyways. I was curious if there was other MSD owners who are now in the process of switching dolls from MSD bodies to SDM? I'm two down and have three more to go and feel like I need a support group haha.

@tasu F-34 is such a unique sculpt to get, congratulations on winning her! I must admit however, I love both bodies. I won't switch any of my boys over, but I have both MSD and SDM boys, and I admit the SDM is a better poser, and a little less awkward to dress, but yeah, I love my boys as they are enough, and wouldn't change them. Good luck finding all those bodies though, that is quite an investment!

 

@Artemos Thank you! I love F-34 so much! She's such a sweet little face, I can't wait to see it up close.

I didn't expect to like the bodies as much as I did. But in a way my dolls tend to evolve with me and change up every now and then. SDM bodies came out at a time where I was starting to notice my Volks bodies posing weren't on par with the bodies from other companies and it made me a little sad and I was starting to contemplate hybrids, so this worked out perfectly for me. Given, it's not going to be cheap, but, it's going to be a process so I don't mind.

 

My MSD F-34 head arrived! I don't have a body or wig for her yet. She's a CN-Model in WS.

My Tsubaki, who also just arrived, is also a CN-Model.

They both have Volks face-ups and I gotta say, for the first time, I adore the default and am keeping it.

 

tasu, those face-ups are absolutely wonderful. They're so cute and have so much personality, I wouldn't want to change them either.

And in spite of being crazy busy for the holidays, I finally managed to get my Sato F-07 dressed to fit her character. She's not your usual "sweetness and light" Volks girl, I'm afraid...nope, Lady Marmalade is a hard core BeyBlader (an old cartoon about spinning battle tops.) She's a street kid who wears recycled patchwork clothing while battling on the Beyblade circuit.. She's new to me, but she's an older doll with her original zouks eyes and once upon a time default company face-up. I thought her slightly anime features were perfect for this character and I absolutely adore her.

 

I just traded for an f-22 boy. I'll have to get a photo if him, but I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about Volks. My other Volks is a four sisters Kira.

I noticed he has no ears, are they hard to come by?

 

Not really no, you can find them on the sales forum with fair regularity, the only thing you may have a problem with is finding the particular ones you want. You may need to search a bit to find -the- ears you want out of the ones available. I will post some pics of my boy this week since he arrived home as a surprise New Year gift. I just got some wigs and clothes at the same time, so maybe some group photos are in order even, really really gonna post this time! >,<

Awww he is really sweet. I have F -22 has well. He has long elf ears. I need to take new pics of him. I've had him for 5 years now.

 

I have a F-13 currently on layaway in the marketplace who is also in need of ears. But I was looking for a doll to be a manga inspired "Chobits" OC, and was planning to make her special Chobits ears anyway...so she was the perfect choice for that character. Especially since I completely adore my recent F-07 acquisition, Lady Marmalade. I just love the sweet Volks faces and I'm hopelessly hooked on Volks now! LadyDeath, your F-22 is utterly adorable and he'd be so cute in cat ears...they'd look perfect on him!

 

Thankyou PoeticSoul. I'm hooked on Volks too now, their resin is soo much smoother than my other dolls. I'd never thought about making him ears, what are you going to make them out of? I have that Fimo/Mr Sculptey stuff might work.

 

I plan to use sculpy for her Chobit ears and imbed magnets to attach them. I did this once before in a doll I later wound up selling, but they worked great and the new owner was very pleased with them as well.

 

Hey fellow MSD fans, I notice there are no sunlight MSD option parts (hands, tabi feet) up on the Volks International site, just white and pureskin normal, but I seem to remember them being available on VolksUSA before it went down for maintainance? Does anyone know if they are usually available for separate purchase? Or maybe they're only available at VolksUSA and not the international site for some reason :s something related to LA FCS having sunlight skin, perhaps.

@Yurikun Hope you share some photos of your boy, the long elf ears are so cute and not many people seem to get them in comparison to the cat ears or other ones!

 

I will take some pics of him with his elf ears soon. I've just been busy with other things but I'll get some time soon. ^^

That wig gives her a ton of personality! Now she's not only cute, she looks like she's capable of a bit of mischief as well. Better keep an eye on that one! It's truly amazing how much difference a wig can make.

 

I am assuming my girl would go in this thread? At least I always categorized dolls of 35cm+ more in the MSD range x'D

Thanks Ludens I made a white skirt to go under the dress and a pinafore but not sure about them yet. I love Kiera's look, it is a very cute photo and the props are great just the right size

I have to admit, Roterwolkenvogel, I'd be completely unmotivated to take photos of Meir if it wasnt for seeing your cute photos of your own Ian. I love how they both give such completely different feelings and atmosphere.

I wanted to ask if you keep yours on her default body? I've been considering switching her to a chibi or reg unoa body the last couple weeks.

 

@revien tbh I have been thinking the same think, esp. since I already switched out her hands to Unoa ones but on the other hand, part of her charme to me is that utterly horrifying and unposeable default body of hers so I am not sure what to do!

 

@Roterwolkenvogel You're a stronger person than me if you find any charm left in her body, haha. I think I lost my patience for it around the same time that I realized it cant hold a sitting pose without heavily leaning against something.
