Volks Home Town Dolpa Osaka 7 - March 10, 2013

I'm guessing the Prince Claude. D: I rather like his face, better than the Beast one, actually... >.> I've seen Belle's photos from YJA and she's stunning. I wonder what happens to all the Volks dolls lately. Creamy Mami was stunning as well, but she isn't popular. >.< The market is probably too saturated right now?

 

It was Prince Claude that was unpopular. The Beast sold out very quickly.

 

Actually Fransyung, the Beast's face reminds me of my darling Heath...and Prince Claude being the same head sculpt does as well. For me, as cute and pretty the girls are. for some reason it's the guys that have been grabbing at my heart strings lately. All Volks dolls find homes eventually though, because what doesn't sell out at Dolpa. goes like hotcakes at the After Parties!

Thanks Katie, somehow I feel better knowing that even though he's pricey, it was a good idea to empty the piggy bank and then some for my sexy Beast! And I'll bet the Prince would've sold faster at Dolpa if his dark alter-ego hadn't been available.

I also feel that the market is a bit saturated. Last year, I lost interest in resin BJDs and expanded my vinyl doll collection (vintage and contemporary). I spent more money than if I had acquired only Hasekura. This year, I still have little appetite for a new resin doll. I worry that if I acquire Prince Claude, I won't have the budget for SD17 Isao if they release him. I welcomed little Isao last year, saving and waiting for SD17 Isao.

I prefer Prince Claude to Beast Claude for sure. I love my 16" tanned vintage British Sasha girls but a 26" tanned resin boy with so much muscles is a different thing altogether. I try to convince myself that I should try to love a beast, people tell me I'm weird, I love pale looking boys when I should prefer the dark, handsome, muscle type. I can't change.

 

LOL... I love dark-skinned dolls, but Beast just isn't my type. ^^;;; It's funny because he and Claude are the same sculpt.

 

Not only is the market really saturated internationally, but I think the Japanese home market for Volks is finally turning its eyes outwards to other companies now as well. And on top of that, Volks LEs are actually getting more expensive over time while their secondhand market is plummeting. I'm not at all surprised that they're having a harder time selling out their LE runs at Dolpas and in the After Events now. I know I saw Mami for sale on the website after all of the AE's.

I think for the upcoming IDEX, I should keep in mind that I always acquire the doll I love, the doll whom I will keep and look after for a long time to come. I have not kept up with the new FCS molds because I lost interest in resin dolls. However, I looked at the FCS database just now and there are several new molds I love. It's not hard to pick out the right doll there.

I cannot believe that Beast and Prince Claude are the same sculpt?

I actually thought Claude looked better in normal skin than tan too. (although i prefer tan skin)

I like Belle, even as a bald floating head! But personally she looks too young for me to consider pairing up with Prince Claude, let alone The Beast. However the beauty of Volks dolls, is that sooner or later, there's one that'll really grab you.

Just like anything thing else, doll styles run in cycles. I don't go crazy for every Volks doll, outfit, or accessory, but sometimes...I just know the doll I'm looking at is for me. I feel this way about the Beast, and felt this years ago when I saw Heath. In fact he remained my only big guy until last the pre-order for Yukinojo GOU last April. I cite this example because at the time there was discussion about Heath not being popular, yet that didn't make me want him any less. No one should talk you into or out of loving a doll, just follow your heart and you can't go wrong...in this hobby, or life in general. JMHO.

I feel like that too. For me, my Daria is like my Belle, and she even has a fur stole to match the Beast. I might give in to Belle in the end, but that would be for her own sake.

 

I agree that Belle is too young-looking. Almost like a crime to wed that young girl who doesn't even look 15. XD Daria is a much better suitor for Beast, she has the strong-willed look in her face, while Belle just look... somewhat blissfull? She is only half-smiling.

 

Kuma & Fransyung you are so right! Daria would make a great match for Prince Claude or possibly even the Beast! Belle actually reminds me of a younger version of SD16 Ami. Still, like Kuma posted she is a pretty doll in her own right. Also if one just had to put her with Prince Claude, I could easily envision her as his sister, rather than a love interest...like Pride & Prejudice's Mr. Darcy and his little sister Georgiana.

Belle reminds me a lot of the DWC #2 head. Im still holding out for a SDGR Elena or a re-release of SDGR Lorina/Alice. I really wish Volks would do pre-orders for the limiteds. That way they can see who is popular and who isnt, then they could add those popular molds to the FCS. Can you see my dream here?

 

I feel your dream Tsukidoll! I am a huge fan of the Volks pre-order, and contact them with praise every time they do one! Especially when it's for a doll I felt I'd never be able to get, either because there hadn't been a re-release (Yukinojo), or they were limited to some small event party, like Yo-Alice & friends were. In the case of the Beast, I honestly loved him at first sight, but was sure my affection would be unrequited, until Volks announced he could be pre-ordered! I keep hoping they'll get the hint with at least their overseas customers...we love the certainty of a pre-order! LOL!

I would love to see another release of SDGr Lorina/Alice also. And I think your idea of the pre-orders is a good one.

In the mean time, however, I saw that Volks released my dream doll at the Osaka dolpa -- white-skinned Luna on the SDGr body. Pity she was an auction doll. There was a normal skin SDGr Luna as well. I think they were both stunning http://www.volks.co.jp/htd_osaka7/oneforall_sd.html/ Anyone know how much they sold for at the auction? I imagine it was something outrageous....

 

White skinned Luna sold for around $8000, NS for around $4000.

It says on the Volks website they will contact winners by email in late March.

Never really a girl owner but I fell in luv with belle! And can't wait to receive her. I managed to snag both belle n Claude prince off yj. Bought prince Claude for his sd17 bod but his face grew on me the more I look at him. Think he will look really awesome after repaint. Will post BO pics when I receive them.

That white skin Luna is beautiful! I'm lucky to have regular Luna and I love her to death!

Here's what I think about Volks dolls not selling out (I agree with what everyone else said): I think the problem with Volks is how slow they are to update their dolls! Years upon years after other companies have made much more posable 16 inch dolls they FINALLY come out with a new body only to make it limited! Their prices continue to be some of the highest of any company around, the doll market is saturated (not in a bad way) with so many wonderful choices that collectors really get to pick and choose exactly what they want. AND lastly they save their very best sculpts for the most limited venues/quantities. So while XX doll might be highly desirable many collectors won't have the opportunity to buy it, OR will lose interest and use their doll funds on something from another company that may be more easily obtained at a more reasonable price.

 

I second this! Until I finish school I may never get to go to Japan for a Dolpa. Please gallery thread the Dolpa if possible. There are a few Flickr photos but I want more and close ups lol

First time doing a Volks Lottery entry and I jumped on SD17 Claude, The Prince. Just got word form Rochelle at Kerby Lane that I won! So excited for my first Volks

 

I just heard from WLD that I won Chloe, I'm so happy right now!

Ryochan, Rochelle from KL usually only confirms the winners because so many people enter the lotteries. Did you enter through any other companies? Fingers crossed for you!
