I am thinking about ordering "Beast". I know it sounds crazy and maybe it'll pass before I actually get to ordering in the lottery. I know he is not "technically" a villain but.... I totally dig villains! He is so big and dark and brooding, I kind of love him! I need to see more pics of the sculpt without a mask though. Any other Beast lovers out there?

 

I may not be interested in appling for him, but I'm interested in seeing more pictures! I hope to apply for Belle and maybe Chole.

I wish I could get my hands on those kimono-hakama sets for boys. And the Beauty and the Beast dolls are just superb.

 

I seriously want to try for like three dolls now...this is out of hand! I need an intervention!

Some of the Sumika outfits are really cute, but thankfully nothing I just "must" have~ I love the tulle skirts and lace tops for the White Rose outfits.

 

Those Japanese sets are gorgeous! I wish I had a girl to wear one of those kimono sets. I am very tempted by the SDGr/13 detective set, though. The deerstalker doesn't do much for me, but the rest of the outfit is very smart.

 

Oh my, that white one-piece shorts set Hasekura is modeling is pretty ridiculous. I might have to get one!

Too bad we aren't getting him here in the US.

Makes this Dolpa a lot easier for me- though there are still some truly lovely dolls to acquire.

 

Damn the prices... D: Isn't USD and Yen almost the same now? Why is Volks USA still a lot more expensive?

 

Maybe they think it will change again by event time so are trying to cover themselves? I agree though, I was a little saddened by the prices. This past dolpa I bought my Mami through the Japanese website as she was less expensive that way (even with shipping).

 

Same thoughts here. :/ But their just adjusted their pricing before the Yen went down so maybe it'll take some time before another adjustment?

 

But there's $200~$300 difference for Claude and Belle... (_ _) That's really harsh~

Maybe if US customers send emails of complaints they will listen? ^^;;;;; Just a suggestion, though. The difference is really a lot more than having the dolls shipped from Japan...

Yeah... But people who join the US lottery wil get bigger chance of winning if most of the customers walk away and join the International lottery...

It would be interesting to see what VolksUSA will say in regarding to the price difference. Californian will have to pay 9% tax on top of this. Though VolksUSA customers had have it good for while during the bad exchange so I can't really complain. Personally, I'm willing to pay this price if it helps VolksUSA stay in business, especially when I'm given another chance at the doll that I want.
Luckily, there is no doll that I really want to go after this time, but those DD outfits are to die for!

 

The problem is they finally adjusted their exchange rate for the dolls right when the yen is weakening, instead of years ago when the yen was much stronger, so now it looks like they really are just trying to squeeze more money out of the VolksUSA buyers.

When the yen was weaker, it was cheaper to buy through VolksUSA, which is how it should be now again, but they're going with some sort of internal adjustment that is not reflecting the actual exchange rate at all.

 

Thankfully if you do live in US you are not forced to buy through Volksusa, you aren't even forced to buy the doll. If you can't afford the extra $200 then you can wait and pay and extra $700+ for after market prices. Volksusa has to ship all the dolls to the US which is an expense the international site doesn't have to worry about. Plus, as it was mentioned earlier, we had lower prices for a few years before Volks finally adjusted their prices.

I'm really excited about this new Midi body and will be entering for one of the new girls through either Volksusa or Kerbylane. My Midori will finally have her perfect body.

 

I'd consider the shipping to the US a bigger part of the increased prices if they didn't ship by boat in bulk, but they do so it's really not something I'd consider a huge factor in a $200 markup on a doll.

 

I don't know historically, when Volks USA opened they pretty much used the artificial rate of 100 yen to the $ and at the time, the dollar was much stronger than that. I still remember when I bought my Yo SD Shin at Dolpa (and thus avoided the 5% sales tax in May 2007) I paid about $275, while via US Lottery he was $350 or was he $375, I can't remember now. While it's only "$75" percentage-wise it's more than 25% more and EMS shipping was way less than $75 at the time and those buying via VolksUSA certainly were not getting EMS from Japan.

I can't remember when they readjusted the fake 100 yen to the $ rate, but there was also definitely a time like Kim said when the artificial rate gave US buyers an advantage because it was not as bad as the real rate. I could have bought Chika in Tokyo directly at a Volks store post the AE, in 2010 but it was much cheaper to get her through VolksUSA at the time, with the 100 yen to the rate vs the actual 90 yen to the $ rate.

 

I asked them simply what the reason for their current price above the exchange rate is.
I know they account for shipping from japan to volksusa.
shipping for a doll is like 60$ ems. so i asked what the rest of the money is being charged for.

 

I guess the Volks USA staff should really sit down and talk with Volks Japan staff everytime an International Dolpa comes up. ^^;; That way, the prices can be adjusted, or... we can all pay in Yen instead of USD. ^^

@ Ebi : As far as I know, as with other doll dealers around the world, the shipping fee is already calculated beforehand, and Volks USA shouldn't force US customers to pay for shipping from Japan to the US, since they're buying from Volks USA and NOT from Japan. >.> The prices on Volks USA should be the same as the prices on Volks Japan, just as the Crobidoll doll prices are the same on both the original CB site and DOLK (agent) sites. ^^;;

It's not that US customers don't have the money to pay the difference, but $200~$300 is just too much (you can get another doll for that price!) and a lot of customers' will go elsewhere to get the dolls cheaper. After market prices don't matter in here. They will go to the International lottery, resulting in increasing amount of International lottery entries... resulting in unhealthy competition. o_o Volks USA is built so US customers can try there instead of going to the International lottery... o_o By bumping the prices higher, it becomes useless. >.<

 

The 2 Dollie Dreams are beautiful. I'm not in the market for dolls at the moment, but Nanami is a darling. I love those kimono hakama sets, such clean straight cut lines. I'm not surprised by the price but I'm surprised they did not offer Beast Claude in the US lottery. Looking closely at human Claude, he looks like the older brother or the more mature version of SD13 Isao. May be, I'm imagining things.....

 

I like both the SDMG Chloe and the DD Lucy Maria, but I can only afford one though.

 

I can't wait to see the dolls in person! I wonder if Liz is more striking than in her pictures.

 

I think Liz is prettier and Chloe is cuter. It will be interesting to see if my opinion changes about which I prefer...

While I appreciate that they are having him here at all, it is annoying that they took a regular Home Town Osaka 7 Dolpa item and made it exclusive to an event that not everyone can get to. Oh well, I'll save money for an SD17 I like. (This is me just crying into my Cheerios- I realize this.)

I hope whoever can buy him loves him and has a fab time at IDEX!

 

I saw that! Lucky for those going there I wish I could go, I really want to attend a Volks event.

 

I'm sorry that not everyone is in a position to attend this event, but this Volks announcement feels like fate or destiny to me! I had already booked my trip to IDEX way before Volks even posted they would be there. Having the Beast there (for pre-order!) is just the cherry atop my sundae! I love the GOU body! I've been wishing for a handome chiseled looking man of color for years! I think I need to try to snare this Beast and bring him home!

I'm really hoping they will post more about their limiteds and one offs. If they have a preorder for belle I'd rather get her there then apply for the lotteries

 

julidc I like the word "fate" or "destiny" you used. This is how I'm feeling too. I could only either participate in lottery for this dolpa or the attend IDEX. Since I collect other types of dolls other than resin ABJDs, I decide to attend IDEX. Then.....Beast appeared. However, the SDGou body is too muscular for my liking and I don't like tanned boys. Although I do feel fate and destiny at play but it's too big of a risk for me to acquire Beast, I will likely end up selling him, that would be sad. Now, I'm waiting to see the one offs and other limited items.

 

Hi Stargazer, I also collect other dolls besides ABJDs and am looking forward to seeing the Volks One-Offs too, but that Beast is already growling in my ear! The heart knows what the heart wants, and you must follow your's to the One-Offs perhaps.

Is it certain that Volks will bring one-offs to idex? That would be amazing. Just went to dolpa today. All the dolls are gorgeous. Liz's picture does not do her justice, so I hope anyone who is undecided keeps that in mind. Chloe sold out fast fast fast!

 

It is certain! They stated on their website they would have limited items, one offs, the dolly doctor, and sumika items.

 

I did find some Beauty and the Beast and Midi girls pics (from this blog). I thought I had decided not to go for Belle, but seeing her here makes me waver. I really want SDGOU Claude anyway.

Wow Katie, being at this event must've been a blast! It doesn't surprise me that Chloe was a quick sell out, she just seems to have that certain something from her face-up and coloring, to her overall styling for me. Were you able to get her, or were you after other Dolpa delights?

It was a blast Juli! I was able to get Chloe, Liz, and Belle. (I had number #155). Also, I actually got bingo (yay!!!!) and even though I didn't win a tenshi, I still won a DD outfit. And I got to spend the week with some amazing friends. I wasn't sold on Liz at all at first, but once I saw her in person - wow. With a different faceup, she is going to be stunning. I wonder how many people are entering the lottery for Liz and Chloe? The only doll that didn't seem very popular at Dolpa was Claude.

 

Wow, justkatie179 3 new beauties at once. I was smitten by the photos of those oneoffs, if I saw them all in real life, I'd be dazed. All of them wonderful.

 

Congrats Katie! To win bingo at Dolpa in Japan can't be easy with so many people in attendance! It sounds as if you had a great time at Dolpa, and a nice visit to Japan in general. If I hadn't received the good word from Volks on my sexy Beast, I think I would've entered for Chloe...I just love her look! Anyway, I'm just curious, was it Prince Claude or Beast Claude that didn't seem as popular?
