Volks Home Town Dolls Party Kyoto 10 Chat, March 9, 2014

Did you check out the Volks website? They seem to have some dolls left over from the lottery or something - it says on their website they'll be available for purchase (in limited numbers, of course) from 11 am (Japanese time) on April 5th.

 

I'm so surprised they had leftovers again! There have seemed to be more leftovers the last few Dolpas. I wonder if they're producing more of each doll?

And my Romantic Glance Okita made it home, finally! His nose in profile is a little different from regular Okita's? But he's adorable and his faceup is just lovely! I usually change them but this one might stay for a while!

 

What a sweetie! Congratulations! For some reason, he strikes me as the kind of guy who belongs in a snowflake sweater.

And - holy cow, those dresses and kimonos were gone pretty fast! o.O By the time I'd finished checking my stuff out, most of the clothes were on "will be restocked" ...

 

I must apologize NabeeRain , but it seems Debra isn't getting the dolls from this Dolpa so I wouldn't expect any of the clothes either. This was a truly crappy and horrendous thing that Volks did this time. They told Debra she was going to be able to offer the dolls from this Dolpa so she sent out emails telling people to send her their wish lists and then they recently told her that she isn't receiving anything Way to not only make themselves look unprofessional, but they have affected another person's reputation and livelihood with their actions. This actually makes me rethink my loyalty to Volks......

 

How frustrating for Debra and everyone else who entered. I received the original email as well which is why I was so confused when I saw that post. I would much rather buy in the US than internationally, but looks like I will have to from now on. I personally do not blame her at all and I don't think anyone else does either from what I can tell. With all of the changes, it is pretty obvious it is an error on Volks side. :/

No kidding. This is terrible. Now I'd be afraid to enter the lottery with WLD if something like this can happen.

 

Once I found out that Volks was basically shutting down here in the states for a bit, I figured nothing was assured. It is what it is, you know?

I wrote a very respectful mail to Volks USA two days ago asking if they had any information about the WLD lottery and if they/Volks Japan would be sending any dolls and there has been zero response. This is unusual for Volks as they're on top of things most of the time. Even if they have no answer- they respond to e-mail. Either they don't know, are in the aftermath of whatever is going on from corporate or they're just not checking their e-mail. I'll update the thread if I hear anything but at this point it seems highly unlikely.

A friend of mine emailed Volks on March 26th about it (she's the one NabeeRain was referencing who posted on Facebook about WLD not getting any Dolpa dolls) and is still yet to hear anything as well.

In addition to this, another friend of mine just sent them an email yesterday because her order's been on hold for the 27cm grab bags from an order on March 24th, before Volks posted about making a second batch of 27cm grab bags, and the status just disappeared within the last few days. There's also be several orders canceled due to not having enough stock to fill them.

All in all, lots of communication issues. I'm not surprised, because I've never seen a business do well immediately after a large employee turn over like this, but I'm not pleased either.

 

Urgh. How did I miss this?
I was in Kyoto that whole day!
I guess my wallet is thankful at least.

 

It seems that Volks International started to ship the dolls - I've received my tracking number today. That was quick

 

Kondou-baby has shipped! That was super-fast turnaround. Dare I try to stuff a Prisma Illya in my cart during the clickwar of doom?

 

I got the shipping-notice for my outfit the day after I made the purchase... crazy fast. I guess they've got this stuff lying around waiting to ship because they want to get moving on the big USA teardown.

 

After having my order on hold for almost a week and a half I finally got a tracking number yesterday, only to have them say today it was canceled due to running out.
This would have been fine except I ordered the first round of the 27cm Grab bags(22nd of March) . Since they re opened the grab bags on the 24th They should have already had the first round accounted for.

I am extremely angry at how they handled this. Mainly re opening the 2nd round. This is my first and last order with Volks.

Congratulations on Mister Handsome! Wowww, that heavy bone structure is seriously stunning. Are those his default eyes? - They seem paler and more striking (as if he needed any more intensity). And that hair is to die for. If only my grey hairs would turn navy blue, I could have that same effect...

MacaronTea, I measured his head and it measured 9.5", so probably 9-10" would be best for Kondō. I also tried some wigs on mine, not that I have many wigs, but I really like this on him:

I also tried Yukinojo's one, Ryōma's and W-140D on Kondō, but I don't really like them on him. Though if somebody is interested to see I have pictures.

 

Zowie! Never guessed he'd make such a great redhead. : I like the brown one too-- is that the Airy Wolf wig, or is it one of the nonlimited ones of the same style? I would've assumed that he'd look devastating in Yukinojo's blond hair, but no go? If you've made a gallery posting of his wig trials, I'd love to see them. I'm still eager to see him as a blonde.

I just received my little MSD Leather Rider set today (SUCH fast shipping for this dolpa!!), but haven't gotten a chance to put it on my bad-boy Arashi yet.

(Re colored highlights in one's hair-- all I have to do is dye my hair blue again, and all of this grey hair will make those streaky highlights automatically. Age has some funny perks.)

PS: Did anybody buy the boys' Napoleon Jacket set? I was really tempted by it, but turned it down in the end because all I wanted was the jacket. I'd love to see how chic it looks on a Graffiti or SD13 guy.

 

My clothes I ordered - the Haori jacket and the matching outfit - are in customs, too. Frankfurt, they arrived there yesterday. If I'm lucky I might be able to pick them up at customs next week. Or I might decide to just send them the paperwork and wait for another two weeks. Depends on my mood.

 

So are all the famous Shinsengumi now represented by Volks? Kinda cool...

 

@MacaronTea mine is in Chitown, too, so I bet they flew over together (and probably were playing cards and drinking beer the whole way). So looking forward to opening him up and stuffing a blonde wig on him. I was moving during the outfit release, so I didn't get to grab anything, but you can bet I will be doing my YJ hunting soon!

Congrats JennyNemesis on that fab leather MSD jacket (and the rest of the outfit, too). Can't wait to see who in your group grabs it first.

Ksusha thank you for the wig pics! LOVE the second wig, which style is it? I'm so glad I got to see yours in person at VolksUSA, it really firmed up my want for my own Kondou.

 

My husband said we got a notice, and since we have plans for tomorrow he's going to go collect him. So I will have a gorgeous guy to open when I finally get off work!

 

Congrats! I wonder how long you guys are going to keep Kondou's default faceup. I'm kind of interested to see some non-default faceup Kondous. LOL.

Jenny, yes, the first wig is Airy Wolf, that was limited with one of Volks News. Yukinojo's wig is a bit too small for Kondō, but imho it's small for Yukinojo too! But I uploaded pictures, so you can see them here.

InvisibleWings, the second wig is also limited from one of Volks News, it's Visual Wolf (Brown).

Kumiya, I'm actually thinking to change his default face-up but I don't have any ideas what I want to see from my Kondō yet. So, mine will stay with default for now.

 

... Waaait, ZOMG how did you get Airy Wolf Wig to fit on a 9-10 head?? The one I got is SO tiny!!... It barely squeezes onto Kimo's DD-size head; I suspect it was made for the Graffiti pinheads. It would never make it onto the huge 9-10s I have here. Do you hire helpers to hold one side of the wig while you pull the other edge over his head with all your body-weight? (Or, maybe is Kondo's head narrower than the usual 9-10 melon?)

And thanks for all those lovely wig trials... I was imagining Yukinojo's original wig, the long ash-blond one without bangs. But you're right, maybe New Yukinojo's short wig not so much. However, with his big mouth & glarey eyes & those wavy blond bangs, he does kind of remind me of a runway model. They have that fierce-overgrown-schoolboy look. I think he'd look stunning in a no-fringe wig with a center part. Droool.

Also tomorrow I will be putting Rowan into his new jacket. You know it's all about Rowan. ^^ Robin will just have to wait his turn. Doubt the MSD jacket will fit my JIDs; it looks pretty snug. But oh what beautiful workmanship, all the rivets & zippers in the right place! Nothing makes me happier than a biker jacket. :3

 

I have been enjoying everyone's pictures tremendously. Kondou is truly a handsome man and I cannot wait to see more of him from everyone!

Oddly enough I jumped in on the second wave of afterevent dolls that went up for sale just now... and I think I actually was able to win the "click wars" for Saito? Theoretically? I have never bought anything from Volks Japan and they sent me an order confirmation so I think it is all golden but who knows? I'll believe it when I see shipping confirmation. Anyhow, I've never had any success with getting dolls- especially male dolls from Volks Japan (SHIRO! *shakes fist at sky*). I always lose the lottery on those so this would be a first!

Congrats to everyone welcoming home their own boys from this Dolpa. I can't wait to see more pics and hopefully take a few of my own.

 

Jenny, ehhh... the one I have is not SO small actually, though the only real melon head that I have is Lorina but I didn't try that wig on her. And I didn't have any problem to put in on Kondō, or even on Ryōma, and it fits SD17 Wiliams too. So... The really small wig that I surprisingly got was SDGou Yukinojo's default, it's too small even for him.

Looks like Okita is sold out but Saito and Kondo are still in stock. I'm glad Okita is gone because now he won't tempt me!

Ksusha, your Kondo is so striking. He looks fabulous in that red jacket and the Visual Wolf wig. That color looks great on him! I love your Saito too. Yeah, he's another one I was trying to stay away from today.

It's so exciting to see everyone's dolls arriving. Can't wait to see brawny, blonde Kondo pics too.

 

I know exactly what you mean about Okita, especially after seeing snowgray's cutie-pie. I already caved once during the lottery, but I was really going to exercise some fiscal discipline this time, but it sure ain't easy!

 

Ksusha, thanks for sharing your photos. It's always nice to see owner pics! Saito is getting a lot more tempting than I first saw him. He actually looked quite cool and handsome in some non-default wigs and outfit that Volks showed off. Even still in default face-up, just a different suitable wig makes him stand out a lot. By the way, your Kondou looks good in red.

 

Oh Ksusha, thank you! I loved seeing your picture- he's totally dreamy. I hope my order holds and goes through. I don't know why it wouldn't but.... I'll believe it when it is processed! I've never won a click war for a doll ever and I wonder if you are lucky enough to add him to your cart if the cart does, indeed, hold the item. At Volks USA you could always "steal" from other people's carts. It was a matter of who entered their payment information first. Pretty stressful, really!

Oh, they must have restocked him at 8pm then! How interesting! When I ordered him at 7pm he was already sold out when I refreshed the page (morbid curiosity about if I was lucky or if they actually had a number of extras on hand to meet the demand.) Good to know for future reference in case I am not so lucky. Patience is a virtue, I suppose... also hitting "refresh" on the Volks page repeatedly doesn't hurt either.

 

Editing to add my supermodels. Rowan and Robin have split the Black Leather Rider Set between them. Rowan (and I) only wanted the jacket (would it KILL you to sell separates, Volks??)... but it turns out that Robin can rock some cheesy bleach-striped jeans, a leopard scarf belt, and a baggy laceup tanktop. He added the cowboy hat & the biker vest himself, and it works, though I'm not quite sure why. The jacket is everything Rowan & I hoped for!

Aaaaaahhh he is so gorgeous! Wow!! His stern but delicate features give me the shivers. He looks stunning in that uniform and oh how I love that hair. Congratulations-- your house must be buzzing with activity over both of these handsome new arrivals.

(That's crazy, that we got different sizes of Airy Wolf wig.... If yours fits a Williams, I'd expect mine to fit my Tony, and oh dear that ain't gonna happen. Factory irregularities? Or maybe I just need to stretch mine out more. ^^)

 

The fur gives him a Jareth look! I do like the combination of light blonde hair + purple eyes-- I think that will suit him great.

 

Got my Lottery outfits yesterday the haori jacket and black snake kimono. The jacket's a bit too large to fit my SD13 boy well so it'll go to Luken (my 67cm Unidoll). The kimono outfit, though, works surprisingly well even though it's "one size fit all". Wouldn't have thought it but Tristan looks great in it!

 

Volks really gets carried away with that "one size fits all label" sometimes... I think they indulge a bit in wishful thinking. But something loose like a kimono is easier to get away with because it's not so fitted. Are there pics? I'd like to see that gorgeous haori jacket (which I missed out on ^^).

 

I snapped two quick, crappy ones - one with and one without the jacket. I'll upload them on Sunday and link them here. The jacket's gorgeous and can actually be worn both ways, black or blossom side out.

 

some one on the volks fan page said that WLD will be contacting people that won in this doll party. they got a message from volks.

I finally got a new wig and decided to try it on my Kondō (yes, again). This time it's "Wild Side Parted". Though I just returned home from Miami and have tons of pictures that are waiting to be processed, so why am I playing with Kondō instead?

 

I also just got a Saitou confirmation! I had to turn down Kondou as I already won one (and unlike some of the male egos in my household, this one doesn't need a twin) but I'm glad to land Hajime.

It looks so strange that his head is big...

I felt as if both of the more mature sculpts were too big for their chosen bodies except in certain clothes, your boy looks wonderful though, maybe someday people will get SD17 bodies for them and try it out? I saw Saito with one on the Volks main thread I think.

 

I don't think Hajime's head was too big for SDGr, but it is a really really thin body. People who haven't held an SDGrB before & are expecting it to be more like SD13 are always surprised how tiny his waist & shoulders are, & how he doesn't fill out clothing. ;;^^ I liked seeing Hajime on SD17, even though the head is a little small for that body. But actually I think he's beautiful on either body. (@MT, is your boy there yet?)

I put up a little modelling-show in the gallery with 2 SDCs sharing that Black Leather Rider outfit. Actually, this one outfit will be shared between 3 dolls... the Eurotrashy leopard-print scarf has since been snapped up by my Iplehouse Mars. Volks's wacky outfit-set pieces rarely end up going to waste around here.
