Volks Halloween Party in LA

Sep 23, 2006

1. No. The guys from the store really WERE dressed in maid outfits. It was adorable and awesome!

2. I demand pictures!!! :D

3. [IMG]

There ya go.

4. Mr. Shigeta was hilarious!

5. :D Thank you!

6. Awesome outfits! XD

I wish I could've went. I ended up working at PMX until 7PM tonight. I was so disappointed. I had Melody in one of my bags too. I'm glad that everyone had a good time. Any detail written coverage yet?

7. Is there any more information about this LA dolpa in the summer? Like, when we can sign up for it etc? Or is it just the basics; there is a dolpa in LA, and it will be in the summer XD

I'm glad to know it'll be in summer, usually they just drop these things on us. Since there will be loads of people selling things, and maybe a limited i want, as well as airfare and hotel and transportation...I really need to start saving up now! Eep!

8. I'm dying for more info too :D I might have to plan my whole doll budget for next year around this Dolpa, will be a really fun first Volks event if I can go.

9. My pictures of the one-offs, here.

10. Just got home and out of my costume -- ah, I can breath again!

I can't express how wonderful it was to see old friends and to meet so many sweet, new people!

Many hugs to HouseOfIsis for the ride back to LAX!

Congratulations to everyone who won a one-off and extra special congrats to Aimee and AJ (and one other special person for the same reason), but I'll let them tell you why.

I was just blown away by all the amazing human and doll costumes. There could have been ten times as many awards and still not everyone who deserved one would have won.

And I don't know if they'll read this, but heartfelt thanks to the Shigetas. There isn't a more generous and sweet family out there!

I'm sure that I'm forgetting things to be thankful and enthusiastic about, but four hours of sleep and eight hours of travel is catching up with me.

11. hooray-- (me out of tight-laced bodice!)

That was so FUN!!! I LOVE Halloween and costumes and I never get out to parties enough except for this whole doll thing! :)

'Nice seeing everyone--and all the beautifully costumed dolls and humans!

Aaaarrrrggggh!!! :apirate: :apirate: :apirate:

edit: yeah--the maid costumes were PRICELESS!!!

Volks knows how to throw a great party!!!!!

12. Kellyhime: It was nice to meet you, even if it was mostly in line for the restroom :p Now you've gotten me curious about what happened at the end of the night... I had to leave early (shortly after they started the lotto) It sure was a wonderful party though, and I especially loved seeing all of he costumes (people and dolls!)

13. I'm also finally home, the party was AWESOME! I love Volk's parties :) Good to see everyone there, nice to meet your husband, Lizze!

14. I almost forgot to post the human version of Cecil and Cyndy:

15. They can't say WHICH doll but we will welcome "her."

16. Whew, finally back. Looong drive. So tired. Will post when I'm not dead. XD;

17. Volks doesn't feel like flying in Merchants from other countries too, does it? :P

18. heh, thats what I was thinking.

19. .... >.> *wonders if they want small usa merchants too....*

20. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the June one was for NYC, and the event for October/Nov the one for LA that will be a full "Dollpa"? I remember thinking that it would be difficult to fly to Dollectable and then to NYC for the event in the same month, and I was under the impression that they were giving us a year to "sew things" to be a vendor at the Dollpa.

Again, it was pretty confusing...anyone get a clearer take on it?

21. I'd like the one on the far left please!
;)

What a cutie! :aheartbea

22. I have no idea but I would kill to get to go to it. >.<

23. That's actually what it sounded like to me too. Summer for NYC's two-day ( I wanna *go*) and Fall for the dollpa dollpa.

24. A Dolpa in the fall would be good because I'd have more money..but it might interfere with class :| hopefully they'll give us information further in advance than they do for the Japanese Dolpas.

25. ooh, a makeup class! :D I like the sound of that! :3

26. HAHA! Saved! <3

I forgot my camera, but I managed to sneak in some shots of the maids on TeaTime's.

I had sooooo much fun!

27. I would like to share my snapshots with everyone. Hopefully I set up the PhotoBucket correctly. :daisy
http://s121.photobucket.com/albums/o240/bjddreamin/?start=all

Please pardon the fuzziness on some; I was so overwhelmed by so many beautiful dolls! :D *_* :love and are grouped in the following way:
costume 1,2,3... these are the costume entries by owners; there were about 45 entries (possibly more, I'm not sure because they were not in numerical order).
pool 1, 2, 3...miscellaneous outdoor snaps; lots of people brought lots of their resin kids.
oneoff 1, 2, 3...these are the absolutely gorgeous, wonderful, stupendous oneoffs! Words cannot describe the talent and hard work that went into creating these beauties.
seitenshi 1, 2, 3...these were the day's wonderful little angels that were given to the LUCKY, LUCKY people!:aheartbea
welcome 1, 2, 3...a few snaps of a welcoming and bonding ceremony. There were two that day.

P.S. To everyone in attendance: Could someone please outline the three(?) announcements made by Mr. Shigeta? One was a special limited girl (for when?), I think another was about a 2-day dollpa, and the other, I forget.

All in all, the day was an absolute wonderment to me. I've never seen so many breathtaking bjds at once resulting in sensory overload, my mind was truly whirling.*_* The overall mood was so upbeat and contagious. The hosts and hostesses were so friendly and helpful. I may start learning a little Japanese so I can communicate better with them. I'm anxiously looking forward to the next Dolls Party!

P.P.S. I won #4...Lucas One-off!!!:o :o :aheartbea :love

28. That party was genuinely spectacular!

And you're very lucky to have one the Lucas-4 One Off! I specifically loved the colors of his outfit. But what exactly was his outfit supposed to be? I kept thinking he was supposed to be a chef, but I am sure Im wrong. :sweat

29. Thank you. I was totally bowled over when I was called. I don't know the name of the style of his costume; but Kellyhime said that she's been reading some Manga books whose characters are dressed in this style, so it seems that Volks keeps up on what's popular 'out there'.
Lucas' green costume was so eyecatching and immediately caught my attention. *sigh*

30. Volks is SO busy - they really are amazing! Any idea on when the announcement of the special girl will be released (I'll admit it, I'm holding my breath for Sasha... maybe the petition worked *crosses fingers*)

Thanks!
Lyssa

31. Thank you so much Snowleopard for sharing:D I hope I can some day make it to one of the LA Dolpas at the Mansion... They look so beautiful, Fun, and Elegant... Not to mention the One Offs OMG are they GORGEOUS!!!!! Does anyone know who got Madoka? That is the one I would have gone for, THAT GOWN WAS JUST:love I mean A One Off Madoka in that Gown would have just be an absolute Dream come true for me:aheartbea
-Anthony

32. I believe it's a Renaissance Squire. That's the type of style and I've seen it in my costume books. That's why I was going to put in for him. =D

This is what I heard. (Since I was listening so closely since he said June. I was immediately concerned that he was going to be doing something during the convention dates.)

New Limited Girl: December 24th
Middle of June: Dolls Party in NYC
October: Volks Dolpa in LA

33. Oh, that Lucas is CUTE! The outfit is based on medieval outfits. I don't know what time period, plus it's a fantasy interperetation, but he's dressed like a paige in a royal house. YAY fashion history being USEFUL for something other than inspiration!

~Erin

34. Daniel Falls, Lizzegirle, The Beautiful Doll, ebtrauma,
I've always admired medieval style clothing with its use of tapestry and embroidery, it's just so elegant.
In this interpretation, Ciera added jewels and pearls--love the glitz! (Or is it bling? )

Thanks for the clarification of the upcoming events. I don't think NYC is doable for me alone--unless we can organize some kind of a group trip? Now that would be something, wouldn't it?

I'm sorry, I don't know who won Madoka.

You're all welcome for the pics--I'm glad I can add something of interest on DoA.

35. That was my favorite too!!!! Why did it HAVE to be on a Madoka??? Lots of people wanted her!!!! Her faceup was wonderful too! My next pic was Tsukasa, another crowd favorite, Heath, Cecile Scar-face, F-16 sunlight - arrrrggggh, it was hard to choose!!!! Alex

36. The Madoka had the most gorgeous outfit!

I really liked the Bunny Aya, too. So cute!

But my favourite was the little F-09, who I wound up taking home! :D

37. All the dolls that I really liked were of models I already had! The Heath was gorgeous, Liz, and I already have a Cindy One-Off! I was thinking that I should have put in for her and made a collection of Cindy One-Offs! hehe.

38. What a fun party! :D The Volks staff were all so nice, and the guests were of course wonderul to socialize with as well! It was nice seeing a lot of you, though I was too shy to introduce myself to a lot of people. ^^; And I was super impressed with all the awesome costumes on both the people and the dolls!

It was definitely worth the trip to LA! And here's all my pics on DoA, if anyone wants to see them:

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95917

39. The Madoka that was #2, was won by some guy named Domenic. I was so disappointed, I really wanted her too, but I didn't realize so many people wanted her as well :O

Was it just me, or were the more one-offs at the last party?

40. Does anyone have any nice pictures of the Pyramid Head doll?
He was so awesome, and I'd like to be able to show my friends!

41. There were more one-offs at the last party, but beggars can't be choosers. =D

I also went for the Madoka, but not because she was a Madoka. It was more of the fact that I thought she was gorgeous. I knew that everyone was going to put in for her, but I had to go with the doll I thought I would really like to have and not some doll that was less popular. That's what I get I guess! hehe

Songblade, it was great seeing you again and meeting your boyfriend!

42. I got two pretty good ones, I think! I haven't had a chance to edit all my photos yet (and probably won't tonight, since I won't get home until 11 *_*) but I'll make sure to get those up soon. :)

43. LOL oh no, not complaining about the one-offs at all! I shouldn't've even tried to, considering my existing debt, I just remembered that there were more the last time. They must be real busy over at Volks. I went for the Madoka cuz her gown was just stunning :O

YES, it was nice meeting you again, Lizze, and meeting your husband! i hope he got a lot of attention for his awesome pyramid head. My honey and I were SO disappointed he didn't win anything for him :(

44. Awww thank you!

Mr. Pyramid Head belongs to me. I was going to take him out tonight to take pictures around some chainlink fences and scary looking schools. I'll post them tomorrow if you like. ;)

45. Yes, more one-offs last time - but also, last time there were one-offs that weren't claimed! There were a few boys which no one put in a lottery ticket for - and did you all notice that there were no one-off Olivias this time? She would have looked good in a Halloween outfit....Alex

46. It was alot of fun everyone! i enjoyed seeing everyone and their beautiful dolls! Sorry i wasnt as friendly
enough. i was a little shy to go up to people and minggle ^^;;! I'm the one in the bright pink chinese shirt
and naruto headband ^_^ !

It was alot of fun talking to the ladies at my table (sorry i forgot all of your names! gomen!) it was a fun experience being there for the first time and you can go around and talk to the staff ^_^ !

i had a fun conversation with hide (i think...the one with glasses!) and the woman in the white gi and red skirt(forgot her name too T.T can someone please tell me their names if they remember ^_^ !). hehe ya they were both naruto fans! they took pics of me and i was happy!~

the oneoffs were just beautiful and so much better in person! i loved that f-16 and msd elsie sooo cute!! My mom said that she wanted to run off with the chinatsu in the entrance and said to one of the maids "she's my favorite! can i buy her ^_^ ?" and he said "nono im sorry not for sale!" "T_T *sad*" ok im done hahaha! it was lots of fun!~

47. I had so much fun; it was wonderful seeing everyone again. I hope people post lots of pictures.:)

48. I'm so sad that the Volks mansion is for sale… I've been there twice and had such a wonderful time both visits. I wonder where they will do future events.

49. OH NO! I'll miss that mansion so much! :( If I had 6 mil, I'd buy that mansion so fast. Such a pretty place!

50. There selling the mansion, noooooooo. Its a really nice place, great location and I wish I could live there.

51. Please do!

Mr. Shigeta told everyone who can sew well to apply as a dealer!!

52. It sounds like everyone had a blast at the tea party!

I wish I could go one of these days. I do have a house in Torrance that I can stay at after all.

Keep those pictures coming!

53. Hey Lizze - good to see you and congrats on the costume award.

Just wondering what would make you come to the conclusion that they don't own this? I am under the impression they do. I do hope that didn't sound argumentative or snippy because its not meant to be. I keep trying to reword the question so it doesn't but I'm not coming up with any better wording.

Vicki

54. Really?! I always thought they owned it. Did they rent it for the parties or something?

55. Well it would seem silly for them to own a 6 million dollar mansion for them to use maybe once or twice a year. It would make much more sense for them to rent it when they needed it. Property taxes on top of a 6 million mortgage, it just doesn't seem useful or business saavy.

If I were in their shoes, I would definitely just rent the place for $5000-$8000 a weekend, rather than be paying that much on mortgage. Many places do that. While they are trying to sell a place, they rent it out to businesses or just vacationers so that they can try to get back some of their money while trying to find a buyer.

I rent a place in North Carolina for $6000 for a week. That place is larger than the Volks Mansion and is right on the beach. (Information just given to show the possibility.)

Either way, I'm not sure if they own it or not. I just think that it would be more feasible if they rented the place during the weekends that they want to hold a party. Especially since there is a listing for the house.

56. I'm not sure if they own the Mansion or not but either way it is sad there wont be anymore parties there. I wonder when they will annouce the dates for the NY party? I may be able to go if I can plan it wayyy in advanced, but if they don't annouce it til like one month beforehand I don't see it happening X_X

About one-offs not getting claimed, I'm pretty sure no one put in for the Sweet Dreams Nana? I seem to remember her never getting called.

57. Just wondering, how many attendees and how many oneoffs were at the August LA and NYC parties?

58. I think at the last LA party there were about the same amount of guests and 27 one-offs.
