Volks Halloween Party in LA

That's really a bummer I've stayed at quite a few west coast Super 8s over the years and not had any problems. I chose the one in Torrance because it's close to the airport, it's close to the VolksUSA store, and it was inexpensive. Hopefully it will be OK - it has a 2 diamond AAA-approved rating and 4 out of 5 smiley Travelocity rating. Believe me, if there's ANY hair or urine ANYWHERE, housekeeping WILL be hearing from me PRONTO! ... Cindy

 

I'm staying at the Embassy Suites Hotel South in El Segundo.

 

Glah, it's about $90 a night! For a Super 8? Isn't kinda high....

 

PMX is happening at the LAX Hilton, so there's bound to be more than a handful of BJD folks there.

 

Yike, after looking at hotel prices, since I couldn't find anyone to room with, I'll be finding a 24-hour Wal-Mart somewhere and sleeping in my car! XD

There should be a 24Hour Walmart on the corner of Normandie Ave and 190th Street, just off of the 405 freeway on Normandie, which is also within a few miles of VolksUSA.

I think that's the only Walmart anywhere near Torrance, since Torrance and especially Rolling Hills and Rancho Palos Verdes arent the type of cities where you would find a Walmart.

Also, is anyone else going to the VOLKS USA store the day before the party, on Saturday?

 

You can probably find something cheaper if it's farther away. I now my motel last time was only like $60. It was a 20 or so minute drive away but it wasn't bad. The prices are probably higher though since you're doing it so late. :/ good luck!

 

We're staying at a Red Roof Inn, and it's only $60 a night.

 

Yeah, something farther out would be cheaper, but I'm terrible at finding my way around and I don't want to get lost and not be able to find the Volks store again to follow the directions to the mansion from there. ^_^; Don't have a laptop and don't have a way to get in touch with anyone to call them to help me out of I get horribly lost. XD;;;

$90/night IS high for a Super 8 but I'm only paying $75/night - INCLUDING ALL TAXES! - for a room for 2 people (it would have been $65/night for 1). I got a break because I booked the room when I booked my flight on Travelocity and paid up-front. FWIW ... Cindy

 

Yes, I'm planning to go to the store on Saturday, probably around 3 p.m., right after I check into my hotel room. After that, I'm headed south to Newport Beach for (GREAT!) shopping and dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, then back to LAX to pick up hamsterlolly ... Cindy

 

I'm not going to the store, I'm going to Disneyland instead.

Oh man I am excited. I just finished my doll's costume. I was only able to make one this time, but I think it's pretty good. =D

 

I'm just working on my own costume because I can't sew for beans. XD;;; I'll probably run out of time and have to resort to that iron-on stuff. It doesn't need to have structural integrity, anyway, it's just trim. XD (Can't use a machine because where I need to sew is too thick. ^_^; )

$75 is fine for a room when you have someone to split it with, but if you don't it's a little steep for me. I don't mind the car. XD (Not that it's really a fundage issue, I fully intend to give Volks at least a hundred bucks on Saturday, but think of the doll stuff it could buy! Oh maaaan, I've lost it, haven't I? XD The resin fumes finally drove me mad...)

 

I've car-camped before. My hair didn't like it, it needs to be scrubbed every 20 hours, but, eh, hotels were pricey.

I'll be at the Volks store at some point Saturday. My friend(s?) and I will be driving from Las Vegas that morning... hope to leave Vegas by 7 (gotta pick up the others and they live all over creation) so...see ya whenever!

 

Oh man oh man oh man!

I just finished my doll's costume, my costume and have figured out another doll costume! I am reeeeeaaaaaddy! Not only that, but the money gods smiled upon me today and sent me enough money to buy a one-off while I am down there. (If I win, of course.)

It's like my perfect weekend is about to come true. First Disneyland, then a Volks party. On top of all that, my husband is coming with me... so no missing him this time!

Now I just need to figure out how to get my HUGE costume down there. Boxes , Etc., here I come!

 

There is NO way that I would be able to car camp. I have a hard time sleeping in a hotel bed, so there is absolutely no way that I would ever feel comforatable to settle down and sleep.

 

is anybody bringing a husband or boyfriend? I'm bringing my husband and he's afraid he won't have anybody to talk to because he's not really into Dollfies ... um, he's into sports

 

I'm bringing my boyfriend.. and Liz is bringing her husband (we're all going together.) But I think any significant others who go will be fine. There were lots of girls who brought their SO's last time. My boyfriend actually ended up having a lot of fun and wanted to come back this time

I ordered a costume but it doesn't fit right so now I don't know what to do. My friend has been borrowing this other costume of mine and I can't get a hold of her to get it back. I really don't want to show up without a costume! My doll costumes aren't super either so I know I wont be winning any competitions but it should still be fun anyway.

 

LOL I'm bringing my boyfriend and he's okay with dolls. I'm sure this will be an educational experience for him.

 

I just got my PMX work schedule. I'm free at 2PM on Sunday. Do you think they'll let me in after 1:30?

 

I don't know if they let you in that late. But is cool you going to PMX too, I'll be there on saterday. I'm going to the Tea party only on Sunday. I hope they let you in, which I'm sure they will.

As long as you have an invitation I don't see why they wouldn't let you in.

I can't wait for Sunday, it sounds like this is going to be so fun! I'm glad the weather will be nice, it'll make dressing up easier. Being my ever-so-creative self, I will be going as a black cat. XD I can't wait to see everyone's costumes!

And does anyone know what the "dolly doctor" will do to your dolls? I have an oldskin MSD that hasn't ever been restrung (and she's almost 4!), and I was thinking of bringing her. But would they restring her for me if I brought the elastic cord, or would they just try and tighten it? I never could get her to pose well anyway, though her elastic is pretty old now. ^^;

I bought a rolly carry-on in Chinatown today, since I'm bringing more kids than my poor back can carry. The proprietress must have wonder why I was measuring all the cases so carefully and making sure that they were padded.

I have a new costume for myself that I worked on all last week while in the grips of a vicious cold. I'm still not quite myself yet, so the kids aren't getting anything new, but I am bringing a couple in costumes I killed myself a few months ago making. Please pretend that you haven't seen them before.

 

I'm fairly sure they restring them. I brought Isabella in awhile ago and I didn't watch what they did but she went in in a terrible stringing state and came out standing like a dream. I'm sure they could do something!

Did you get an invitation? Because my friend who was supposed to go canceled on me, saying that she needed to focus more on studying for midterms next week. So I have a free guest invitation floating around here.

If I dont get a reply, then Ill probably drag another friend along to expose her to Super Dollfies or come to Volks mansion with my tail between my legs and an empty seat.

Guess what was shipped out today?!?! The MSD F-13 I ordered after the last tea party! XD XD XD Oh man, that's so funny! (Wow, that's a lot sooner than I was expecting him! XD I was figuring mid-late November!)

 

I haven't been to a Volks party before, so I have no clue how long it will last. Can anyone give me a rough estimate? Are there any events or meet-ups planned for afterward?

I don't care if the Tea Party lasts all night, since I'm not flying out until Monday morning. I just want to know if I need to figure out something to do Sunday night.

I am flying out in 4 hours

 

They usually wrap up about 5-6pm. There isn't really a set time though. (Although, I have to catch a flight at 9pm, so I have a specific ending time.) The party usually ends around dusk time, or whenever they have finished all of the games and stuff that they are planning.

I haven't heard of any meet-ups this time. Though, I'm sure that you guys could plan an impromptu one. I also heard that some people are going to Disneyland on Monday.

Your husband will be fine as long as he's okay with talking with guys he's never met before. I brought my boyfriend last time, his first "exposure" to all of this, and he had the best of time. There are guys there to chat with that aren't into the dolls, so I'm sure he will enjoy himself. Plus there is the food and wine and the gorgous setting...and the Shigetas are wonderful hosts!

tsk, 50 min before I am supposed to wake up, pick everyone up, and head down the ol' 15. Gonna try to pull into the Volks store 'round 11.

But more to topic... Would the Volks people mind if we used their restrooms to change? It occured to me that I really don't wanna drive X hours down the road in my costume, nor do I want to change at a McDonalds... I can't see why they wouldn't but...did anyone use the restrooms last time? Was there space to change? Will they get mad if a lot of us start claiming changing areas? I'm not shy, I'll change out in the street if need be (it's dark!)...

 

lol, while I was finishing up the jacket the cats apparently stole the stuff I needed and I can't get more before I leave and don't have time to find where they put it! Oh well, it's not the most vital piece of the outfit anyway... ^_^;

Time to finish packing, shower, and get on the road! lol, I'm also aiming for around 11am, see you there? XD;;;

 

There's pleanty of room and I don't see why they'd mind. The only issue would be the wait in line for the bathroom because of everyone else wanting to do the same thing.

 

Tonight has been a disaster! First, I found out that BART isn't running earlier enough to get me to the Oakland airport on time, so I have to take a shuttle, then I just heard from my ride in LA that due to an injury, she won't be able to make it to the party. So, I'm wondering if anyone will be either near LAX at about 10:30am tomorrow or going back in that direction before 7pm. I would so appreciate any rides!
