Volks Dolpas in August - Discussion thread

Jul 24, 2006

    1. I beg to differ. I spent about an hour and change last night clipping, pulling and hacking Nana's eyes out. What a trial. It was hard to hold her as I didn't want to get my hands all over her makeup and I was afraid of hacking into her resin. It required a good amount of elbow grease as well. It was also hard to get the glue off the eyes when I was done. They know we all hate it, why do they continue?
      :(

    2. I wish we knew how many doll-buying customers on VolksUsa are not DoA members..then maybe polling everyone here would give us a better idea of our chances :sweat

    3. I don't really hate the glue. I am usually able to just remove a small part of the glue and get the eyes out. The rest stays in and helps to keep my dollies eyes in place with very little if any putty.

    4. Most of the dolls I buy from Volks will be keeping their eyes glued in, I like the glue because it's more stable than putty.

    5. I like the lips on the girl, I like that the lower lip is not painted as large. But I like the eyes and the eyebrows on the boy!
      Ah well....

    6. well, my friend took out the eyes of her syo, and she had a heck of a time, so i guess it differs then. i hope i don't have a hard time! but then again, i only get to open her when she gets here to make sure everything is ok, then wait until christmas, gah! and i have to pay the 20 percent deposit, on my own present, erm, stupid. at least i can buy her clothes, i'm buying the blue bear suit, boy sailor suit, and blue playtime set that came with my friends sleeping rege, lol.

    7. I believe-with the glue-the older the glue is the harder it is to remove..I had quite a hard time removing the glue from my Scarface, and he was around a half year old when I got him..though that might count as 'new' when it comes to limiteds!

Good luck to everyone with the lottery-the yo's are so adorable, I think this pair is the cutest yo's they released :D How I'd love to see Chinatsu in a traditional Chinese costume with long black hair and fiery red eyes..*dreams* lol, no money, so no yo-sd for me but again, good luck for everyone trying for a doll :D I hope you all get what you want ^_^

    8. re: the glue -- it's just regular hot glue. If the eyes don't pop out from light pressure on the pupils, blast the inside of the head with a hair dryer for a few seconds and try again. Repeat until they pop out easily. The warmed glues peels off both eyes and resin with no scrapping or cursing required.

I like the glue; nothing more annoying that getting a doll all set up only to find that one eye is all off-kilter.

    9. Those puppies were in tight. pressing wasn't getting anywhere. There was a load of glue in there and it was not letting go of those acrylics for anything. I'm sure the hairdryer method works well, except I don't have a hairdryer. ;)

      Yes that is incredibly maddening.

    10. Hmm, maybe the age of the glue does have something to do with how hard it is to get out. I just pried my Jun's eyes out and it was really, REALLY hard, even with the hairdryer. >.< But my Hewitt II's eyes weren't as bad. So I guess that's good for those of us who are going to be changing the eyes on this batch of Dolpa dolls! The Yo-SD's always come with acrylics for some reason, I guess it is to keep costs down because they're harder to produce due to their size (or so I've heard). Makes me glad they don't come fullset with glass eyes, they'd be so expensive for such tiny things!

    11. Ummm, I think the entire universe went for Tinatsu. This includes me of course. Sigh. I hope I get her...

    12. I hope you get her too!!! It does seem like everyone went gaga over her.

Kuuuta kuuta kuuuta gah... now I have to get ysd sized shoes!

    13. my friend had to use the hair dryer method and it somehow cut her finger, but then she cut her finger on her sist boy too, lol. i want light blue souldoll eyes, is 14mm ok?

    14. Well both Kuuta and Chinatsu come with default 16mm eyes..so I would guess that's the size you should get for other eyes as well.

    15. yeah, but the white doesn't show that much, i don't like it, so i was thinking 14mm would work, i have some at my house, i'll see before i go and buy them i guess.

    16. You can try rolling the eyes back in the head a little to show more white at the bottom, it can really help :) My twins wear 20mm but my Syo's look smaller since they're rolled back a little bit to give him an attitude.

    17. Oh my!!! Waiting to see who won the lottery is soo tense!!
I have been stalking ebay for outfits and have found great full sets that I know will fit her but are made for other dolls. They are all so cute I wanna buy them all!!! And so cheap too! I keep wondering if I should wait or buy them now while they are at good prices, but them what if I don't win her? Then I will be all sad becaue I have these cute little outfits and no dollie to put them on.

    18. Makuhari's One-Offs were opened:aheartbea
      Elves are beautiful :chibi
      http://www.volks.co.jp/jp/event/dolpa_06su/mk/oneoff.html

To be able to get limiteds by the lottery (without queue for a long~ long~ long~ hours from early~ early~ early~ morning *_* <= And many of us can't get limiteds T_T) is the envy of Japanese owners.
I wish eveyone can get dolls!!

    19. Me too ria_ria. So did you get to go to a recent one then? Get anything cool?
Here we have to wait until we get an email, which is better than standing in a line for hours! ^_^

    20. Hi, NabeeRain ^_^. I went to Kyoto Dolpa (that was my first experience of Dolpa!) and was very tired :sweat I'm weak and couldn't participate in bingo then. (I came home by car before it...)
On Kyoto Dolpa, wind was cold and severe~, and I got cold *_* We have to both "queue and pray to god". I only want to pray to god, heeheehee~.

    21. My Piccolo looks just fine in 14mm Souldoll eyes, which is what he wears all the time, the 14mm should work in Kuuta and Chinatsu as well. I'm actually curious to see how 12mm eyes will look in a Yo, I hate large irises and love lots of white.

    22. I ordered Chinatsu and Kuuta. I hope we all get our orders!!!! I love yo-sd, eeeek. Can't resist their cute, tiny little faces..

What other dolls clothes on ebay fit them? I'm so curious :)

    23. I think it is the age, and also at least partly the eyewell shape. My Yukinojo, the glue came right out on him with a minimum of fuss and cursing. He's got pretty defined eyewells and the glue was new so it was pretty much just blast, pick, pull. Then I had an Arashi once and his eyes on the other hand... Yipe! His eyewells weren't as deep or defined and there was a LOT more hot glue and it took ages between the amount, the age, and not being able to get my big fingers in his tiny head! The F-19 I took the eyes out of wasn't very fun either. DX

      Hotglue makes the eyes in my Isao easy to set, though. So much of the hot glue is left in his left eyewell that he can ONLY wear 18mm eyes because nothing else will actually go in and fit, and the eye will only go in one way and can't be moved, so one need only match the other eye. XP Attempts to chip more glue out have thus far not gone well since it's been quite a while since Dolpa 11. >_>;

      So... If you want the eyes out, do it fast. X3 I've had my F-24 for a year now and I need to chip his eyes out because they're actually glued in slightly crooked, but at this point I'm afraid... ^_^;;;

    24. My school money just came in and I was able to order a kuuta. I'm so happy that this will be my first yo-sd.

    25. Hopefully we all will get the orders we wanted through Volks!

As for clothes that fit Yo SD's great I am talking about Ann Estelle clothes. I wil PM you some pics ^_^

    26. Hey Ian - I was thinking of changing my Yuki's eyes too - what size does he wear? Alex

    27. I was wondering where I can get those cloths Kuuta's featured with? Will they become avaliable through volks later on or can I go through some other place to order them?

    28. Iknow that a few of the stores listed in the News thread under the same title as this one have the clothes available for order. I am not sure if Volks will have them for sale or not. ^_^

    29. ohh, thanks! yeah, i like lots of white too, he-he. :) i must go put the down payment on chinatsu now, bye money.:sweat

    30. Waaah, waaaah, waaaah cry me a river! Lucky for me if I do get her I have a great Dollheart outfit with shoes that I could never get on my Leeke because of her wide open hands. Don't even think of telling me to take the hands off to get her in it!

    31. hehe.. I've been buying up clothes and things for my Chinatsu.. ^^;; I just don't want her to arrive be naked for weeks or anything.

    32. Nathankatt - 16mm or 18/9mm. 14 is too small and regular 18mm irises are way too big and it looks awful.

    33. I waited until the last possible minute and put in an order for Sweet Dream Nana. Anyone else order a sleepy girl? I really want that fullset from the SD Kira! but I loved the more open eyes of moody SD Nana. Anyone want to trade outfits?

    34. Oh I hope you win Nana-SD, she's beautiful! I'm hoping I can get her too but in a year or so, have to buy another SD girl first :)

    35. Laalalalal yeah but it's a girl's outfit... All the oufits are girl outfits... I got a boy coming!!!

Take the Leeke hands off. You know you want to.

Oh and Sheri... I so want a Sleepy Nana... no got the cash this time. Or the justification for another 60cm doll. Maybe the heads will turn up on their own. That I can justify.
      ;)

    36. I just got an email from Volks saying they were doing a lottery and they would be in contact with winners on the 28th. It was just confirmation stating they recieved my order. I really hope I get Tinatsu!

    37. Got my confirmation too, I wish they could have sent me a specific mail to tell me if *my* item was part of the lottery but I'm just glad my order went through :)

    38. Yeah my order went through too. Of course the lottery is for Tinatsu and possibly others. But, for her for sure. If I don't win her I will be so upset. When is the After Event anyway? I will try and use my super fast cable connection to win Tinatsu there if I don't get her through Volks USA.

    39. You're not right I tell you. I'm not takin those hands off! The outfit will go to the YO SD with more together fingers and that's that! What do you want just a head for anyway! That's creepy. Wait a minute I got one of those floating (not literally ) around here too. Needs a body...

    40. The online after events are usually a couple of weeks after the Dolpa. :) I still think everyone has a pretty good chance with the lottery though! They did a lottery last time too, and a lot of people got what they wanted. Good luck you guys!

    41. The after event at Tenshi no Sato is from September 9-10th, ours will probably be around the same time.

    42. I got my order confirmation today too.

      *prays for my yo-sd's*

    43. Confirmation of lottery here too... whee!!:chibi

    44. well, i just put the 20 percent down on my chinatsu! i cannot put in words how nice and warm rochelle is! we talked for a good long time, she's interested in you, not just your money, and that's really cool. congrats on everyone for getting confirmation! :)

    45. I'm in the lottery too. Do we know if some items are lottery and some are not but everyone gets the same email until the lottery is done? Or were all items set for lottery? I want the little Kuuta.
Oh, about the Leeke hands, my girl can wear the pink Volks yo-sd sailor-like girl outfit (check my avatar), but it takes some time to get it on over the hands. But you can order a second set of hands from Leeke that are not spread out. Next time I order from them, I'm going to get the other hands. It will save lots of frustration.
I cant wait until the 28th!!! Arggggggghhhhhh

    46. Things that make no sense to me: Volks is attempting to establish a strong customer base in the US and has gone to all the trouble to set up a physical store. Why on Earth do they do second-party retailer orders for Dolpa dolls *before* direct-to-customer sales? Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to take orders directly from customers through their site then offer a number of dolls to authorized dealers after they have an idea of what the demand is ? Not only does it make me not want to order directly through Volks (which I've always prefered) but it costs them money -- they're selling these dolls at wholesale to dealers instead of retail direct-to-customer with no additional overhead to them since they already have a US set up.

      I don't get it.

But anyway, I got my lottery confirmation, so I hope I get a doll (I'll be happy with either; I couldn't pick -- I want Kuuta's head on Tinnatsu's body! ^^; Letting Volks pick for me fixes that problem.)

I also got a very nice SD owner's club card (or whatever it's called) in the mail today. Anybody know if this will ever be useful apart from in person at the Volks store or at the tea parties? Unfortunately I'll probably never get to either.

    47. I don't get it either.. but there are a fair amount of thinks Volks has done that I don't get. ^^;

    48. Volks has sold to their stores before directly on their websites for the past few years (think Doll Hobby and the After Events). Personally, whatever they do is fine. It doesn't make the dolls harder for us to get either way. Same number of dolls, same customer price, we can just order it through Volks or one of their dealers.

    49. well, i'm thankful they do that! or else i probably wouldn't have my chinatsu! :)

    50. how do you all know who the volks dealers are? is there a list somewhere i can read? hehe

    51. A list of authorized Volks dealers can be found here.

    52. Debra at We Love Dolls is great as a Volks retailer. She does layaways something which Volks does not offer. The Volks USA retailers can only sell within the US.

That is how I got my Black Cat Lucas and am getting my little Yo-SD from her. She's also getting a lot more clothing in. For me it's fantastic since I can just drive to Lake Geneva. I will never get to California so I am hoping Volks might possibly do an event in her area for we middle US people.

    53. Yay for Mid Western Volks Event!!!!

Ok, back on topic, only a couple days left!! Oh the anticapation.

    54. Well we're supposed to get our emails today..haven't gone mine yet :(

    55. Has -anyone- gotten anything yet? I haven't.

    56. Nothing yet either... I'm starting to get real scared, but I was like this the last time I entered in one of their lotteries ><

    57. Hopefully things are just delayed..I can't imagine all three of us losing already :( especially when Kaighn and I both entered for a seemingly unpopular choice.

    58. Darn I hope so too, usagi... >.< I feel like slowly I'm getting more and more worried about the lottery X3

    59. It's not quite noon there yet, maybe they're just busy sorting through things. ^_~

    60. I haven't gotten my notification yet either if it makes you guyz feel better. I think things are just delayed :)
