Volks Dolpas in August - Discussion thread

I'm going to try to order through Kerbey Lane, since I'm in California. I wonder if it will be as uncertain as it was with the Doll & Hobby shop! I've had good luck with Volks USA and like the way they do their Dolpa sales, but . . . couldn't hurt to try.

 

well, i talked personally with i think her name is rochelle, and she said she has a good chance of getting them, i think when i called there was 10 orders for chinatsu, i'm 11 i think, lol. she said kerbey lane and dolls and friends are the two offical volks dealers that are going to offer this. the ordering stops tomorrow though, good luck! i'm no nervous! gah! lol. i hope everyone gets the doll they want!

 

I'll cross my fingers for us all! I'm #12. It looks like Chinatsu is a popular little one.

 

Just out of curiousity.. if you put down for multiple dolls are you then forced to buy all of them? I want a Chinatsu..but if I can't get her I would be willing to get a Kuuta and re-do the face up so he looks like a girl ^^;; and maybe eventually switch bodies...

I haven't ordered a doll from the VolksUSA site..what's the process like?

I hope everyone who wants Chinatsu is able to get her. I was planning to get her before I went to the Tea Party, but now I'm going to have to pass on her ^^;; I look forward to seeing lots of pictures ^^

 

Yes, you will have to buy both dolls. The process is the same as ordering from their site. You put the doll in your cart, check out and they charge you right then and there. They say they will charge you later, but I have always been charged right away. I am pretty sure they refund you later if you put in for more than one doll, but you don't get all of them (I wouldn't know for sure because I have only ever ordered one doll).

I just really don't want to have to go to a scalper trying to get Chinatsu ;_;

 

The extra price could be because the US dollar isn't doing very well these days, I suppose. Looking at the exchange rates Rinkya and Crescent Shop are using, compared with the rates I've had in the past, they're noticably lower now. It may be necessary to raise the price higher to maintain the same level of profit. The new DDs at least are more expensive than Cheryl and Femi are, as well, I noticed.

As for it being 'cuter', that's a matter of opinion. XP I don't like 'jy' either. XD I think the 'sy' bothers me most, though, because of the same thing that bothers me with 'si' and 'ti' for　し and　ち; the syllables generally are pronounced differently from the rest of their group; and while 'sa si su se so' looks more harmonious than 'sa shi su se so'; 'si' doesn't clue you in if you're not familiar with things to the way it's generally pronounced(Some people have accents that do render it as 'si', but most seem to say 'shi') - Certainly to people not familiar with the different methods of romanizing Japanese it's more confusing and doesn't convey it as well. Same with, say, 'syo'. If I didn't know what the originating sounds were I'd pronounce it completely wrong since my brain interprets 'sy' entirely differently from 'sh' and I'd produce a completely different sound. (To your average English speaker, for example, 'sy' is used usually at the end of words and is something like the word 'see'. 'see-o' is what I'd make of it with no knowledge) Whereas even if I knew nothing at all of the way it's originally formed; 'sho' gets the right sound out of me.

But I'm nitpicky as all hell and I've been known to go over romanizations people have sent me to use on the lyrics site I have and change things to suit my way of doing things. (Which assumes that the average fangirl is looking at it, probably has no clue what the hell any of the block of kanji/kana lyrics means, and thus needs something that as closely approximates the actual sounds in question as possible so she can sing along happily with her favourite band.)

tammie, did you order chinatsu and kuuta? oh man, monday is going to come here so slow! i need some good news, started my first day of college, and it was like battle to the death for a parking spot, and then walking up 3 flights of stairs isn't fun, heh.

 

Hmmm...I'm not too crazy for the limited SD's this time. But the Yo-SD's are darling. I might try for Chinatsu

Eeee, I got my confirmation email from Rochelle too!! I'm getting Chinatsu, and couldn't resist getting one of those cute little pink bunny snuggly things for her. Its really nice that Rochelle can order Dolpa clothes and stuff too! Well, not nice for my wallet, 'cause I bought that La Parsonal SD13 boy set too. ^^; But yay for no sales tax!

I wonder how many of each doll she was able to order? At least 10-12 Chinatsus, I figure, which is pretty good compared to what the Doll & Hobby Shop was allowed for a lot of limiteds.

I think it was more than 12 Chinatsus because I beleive I was number 15.
I'm so happy! I got everything I wanted xD Chinatsu, Kuuta, Boys Be Boys Blue Set, Both Chibi Dress outfits, and the 2 cute Yo-SD undie sets xDDD~ I'm sooooooo excited for October!

 

Ah, I wish I'd gotten in on the Kerby Lane order >.< I didn't know they were allowed to get the clothing sets, too.

Are those generally available during the Volks lottery? I really want my Yo, but I also really want the Chibi sets!

All Syos have pouty lips..Syo-SD's are just slightly larger. When I get mine I'll post comparison pictures of oldskin, Pureskin, and SD Syo.

My friend ordered Black Cat Lucas and that's the way she ordered- first email with just the info listed on the blog, second email with her payment information, and everything went fine And I also just sent my name, address, phone number, no CC number yet.

I think as long as you put your full name, number, and adddress along with the doll name you should be just fine.
I just wonder who will actually be able to get her.

It says that the winners will be notified starting the 28th, and the dolls are expected the first week of October, just like from Kerbey Lane. Not a bad wait at all, for Volks anyway!

Oh thank god she really does have the girl body!! I know it is silly, but I was still a little worried. I had to see owner pics to be sure!

Definitely! I'm actually swapping heads with a friend so she can have a Chinatsu boy and I'll have a Kuuta girl.

 

He does have a really cute face...maybe you can switch bodies/heads with someone?

I really want a girl that can be a tomboy though (of course she will still get dressed in girly clothes too!). So she is perfect IMO. ^_^

 

The difference is because Valico designed Chinatsu's face up while Saifa designed Kuuta's, Valico is known for her natural face ups (she also designed the face ups for Syo-SD and Kira-SD) while Saifa's usually look a bit more like make up.

 

I think both face-ups are fairly girly. I don't have a strong pref over either one.. so I'm glad I got Chinatsu cause I'd rather have a girl body. Plus you can also get the face-up re-done by someone ^^

Btw..has anyone seen any pictures of the Home Town Dolls Party in NAGOYA 3 posted? I would like to see the doll displays that were there!!

 

the only thing i don't like about chinatsu's faceup is the color of her lips, maybe ike bubble gum pink would be cute. their eyes are glued in too right? i want her to have blue eyes!

 

Well it's easy enough to remove the glue. Volks just uses a hot glue gun. I was able to pick the hot glue out with just my fingers..but you can also heat up the glue to make it easier to remove. Honestly removing Volks eyes is not too difficult so don't worry!

 

Yep, all Volks dolls come with glued in eyes. >.< I'm about to go and pry the eyes out from my Jun, and boy is it an unpleasant task. But its certainly do-able! I'll probably get my Chinatsu blue eyes too, or possibly green. She'll probably be getting a new face-up too.

nena, thanks so much for the links! They're all so cute, and even after seeing "real" pics I still love the Yo-SD's headmold.

 

Oh I am even more nervous than before the ordering last night!! A whole week before I know if I really get her or not. So many people ordered her! I wonder how many VolksUSA will get and how many of us ordered her? I wish I knew my chances! Oh well, I will just keep hoping for my little angel. ^_^
