Volks Dolpa - Dolls Party in LA 2015 - LAX Marriot (9/5/2015)

Feb 1, 2015

1. I am going to bring my SD16 F36 girl Lena, but I can't decide on doll number two. It's either SD17 Williams (Sean), SD13 F30 (Idris), or my WS F38 (Blackpool) riding on a NS SD17 body but dressed from the neck down so you can't see resin mismatch. I have been waiting years for VS to release a WS SD17 so he could have a proper body. Maybe if I show them what I've had to do in lieu of having the right body they will take pity on me a finally release one. >__<

My other doll options would be SD17 Claude, SD Michele or SD Yu Morisawa.

2. I'm bringing my MSD/SDC F-21 girl, and some Yos (Lorina and Tsugumi at least)

3. I think I might go ahead and email Volks, too. Just in case. >.>; Not having that confirmation email is freaking me out!

I have three full Volks dolls at the moment, SD17 Reisner, SDGr F-38 and SD10 School C boy. I think I shall bring all of them out to LA with me. My Reisner, Bal though. XD; He'll probably be the one that actually gets hauled out to Volks 8D;

4. JIMM-EH!! :D That little party animal! :dance

I did email Volks and then received 2 re-re-confirmations of my application for the Tea Party. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that everyone gets into that Tea Party that wants to. It's so sad when people can't get in and have to miss out on the events.

Sounds like there is going to be some amazing dolls at this shindig! Looking forward to seeing them all. It's only one doll for the Tea Party, correct? I'll probably just bring the one if that's the case. Looking forward to a pile of Genjis at LA Dolpa! What a glorious photo that would be! :love

Those all sound like awesome choices to bring, idrisfynn! I second a WS SD17! I'd love Volks to do more SD17 in different resin colours like WS and Sunlight. Apparently, there was a WS SD17 Genji one off at Tenshi no Mado last year. I didn't see him but was told of his existence by others. Maybe he was a dream FCS that someone couldn't pay for?

5. For those thinking of bringing multiple dolls -- didn't it say that only one doll could be brought to the event? I can't remember if it was on the website or the application form.

(I'd love to bring a couple, but I'll just have Anthea with me, if it's a one-doll rule. Then again, if we did a post-Dolpa afterparty, I could always snag any extra dolls from my room . . . OTOH, need to pack things like clothes and medication, LOL!)

-- A *_*

6. I didn't see a one doll only rule, Ashbet.
I'm going to bring my FCS f-29 girl :) I better work on her a little.

7. The one doll rule is only for the tea party :)

8. Yeah, you can drag around as many dolls as you want to the rest of the event (though this seems impractical for shopping), it's just the tea party that would get awkward if someone wanted to pile a bunch of dolls on the table.
I would have loved to join the Genji reunion, but I sold mine a while back. :sweat A white Genji one-off sounds glorious!
I'll stick to bringing my Amakusa, partly out of stubborn loyalty to the former LA staff since he used to belong to both Bailey and Kayo.

9. OMG a one off WS Genji! He must be beautiful! I know we sold our Genji head, but I'd go for a WS release of him like a lightening strike! I doubt I'm alone in that. heh.
My chances that whoever owns the One Off Genji will decide to sell his body second hand are dismally low.

I put down Lena as my +1 for the tea party, she is the only one who has never been to a convention or Dolpa, etc out of all of my Volks crew so she deserves a treat. Though, I guess the runners up would be the Claude (still working on his name) or Yu Morisawa (Vivi, who currently has no body). I have a while to decide and change my mind multiple times before then. May be I'll get them all dressed as if they were going, and see what happens when the time comes.

10. The tea party is supposed to be I think a more intimate event, hence the one doll rule. It sounds really fun. I put in again so I would get the email confirmation and the email still took a few hours to get to me, making me really worried it wouldn't arrive.

11. I am really in hope that Volks make the tea party early registration just to count the participants and to rent the appropriate room for the party. I am pretty sure that most of us will be able to take part in this party.

12. I will be bringing a few Yos, definitely Topaz, not sure who else. I have to think of a clever disguise for Fee...she hasn't missed a Volks event yet ;)

13. I already plan to bring Saffron (SDC Renee) and Felice (MSD Sakura, won by my husband during the 1st LA Dolpa). I'm also considering bringing another doll, one of my SD or SD16 girls. Any requests?

14. I went ahead and re-submitted my application as well and got a confirmation within seconds. I won't bother to send an email to Volks since they probably got a lot of duplicate entries by now and know the reason. Now I'll just keep my fingers crossed that there won't be a need for a lottery for the tea party and we all can attend. I'm thinking of bringing my Belldandy and Yo Rinon. I thought about bringing Shinku but I'm a bit paranoid about something happening to her so she'll stay put on her little throne at home.

15. I just re-submitted, too. Geez, I felt really daft waiting for a confirmation - that apparently was never gonna arrive...I re-submitted and poof in a couple of seconds I get a confirmation. Oh, VolksUSA.

P.S. If my bf and I can get into the Tea Party, I'll be bringing my Adèle[One-Off SD16G Amelia] and Clarisse[SDGrG Michele].

16. I'll probably bring my Cyndy and Kujo.

I can't wait to see all of the Genjis! He is still my grail doll. ~sigh~

17. I'm excited for another LA Dolpa! It had been way too long since Volks held a West Coast big event. I'm planning on bringing my SDC Midori and if my husband gets in either my Kanata girl or DDdy Yoko. Though I'm tempted to bring my Yugiri as I brought her to their previous LA Dolpa.

18. I sent an email asking for confirmation and they replied within a couple hours. I didn't think it necessary to make a double entry, in case that causes problems down the road. :/

For dolls, I put my Lorina's name on the Tea Party application, and I'm planning on also taking my tan Scarface Cecile so I can get him a date with the dollie doctor! Plus, he hasn't been to an event since my first NY Dolpa in 2007, which was also the only event I won a oneoff at. He must've been my good luck charm! ;)

19. My daughter attended the KBJD Show, and she was less than a year old. She did great. Didn't touch a thing, and she was walking around. Not all children are the same and children, especially those exposed to dolls from a very young age, are taught to respect these dolls and not touch them. And, no offense, but damaged before a child is restrained? Geez, what kind of kids have you been around?! D:

And nope, no other babysitters. I'm very peculiar. @_@;

She's 2. Would be 2 1/2 by the time of the convention. She's amazingly gentle and well-trained around dolls. You can ask every single person who has met her and EVERYONE who met her at the KBJD Show. Crikey, she was almost famous by the time we were out of there. No idea where the rule came from, but it really bummed me out. I'm not making any plans to attend, honestly. Volks never bothered getting back to me, so its not important.

Anyways. No plans on going, as it seems they are having a hard time even sending emails. LOL!!

20. Yeah, my son is 5 now and has been around dolls since he's been born and he's also very respectful and gentle. I'm lucky because I'll be going with my husband my mom will be with my son back home. My son has special needs, so I understand the being very peculiar about who your kid stays with. I'm sorry I won't see you this time Staria. T_T

21. I sent Volks an e-mail and they replied the next day that my entry had been received! I hope they're deleting double entries... it would be awful if they ended up having to do a lottery and some people had been put in twice.

Staria and Tetradeka, it's lovely that you have such well-behaved children! That said, I totally support Volks' decision to have an age limit for the Dolpa. The rule has to cover everybody, and it's impossible to know how each and every kid would behave in a particular situation. Accidents happen, but a child can't be held responsible, so a parent whose kid accidentally broke something would end up having to pay for the damage, and that wouldn't be fun! Some limited dolls and faceup artists' work can't be found anymore, for any price. It's possible the hotel's or Volks' insurance companies instituted the rule because they themselves didn't want to end up having to pay for damage, either. And of course, I'd hate to be mad at a child for an accident, but I know for sure I'd be livid if something happened to one of my dolls!

Anyway, I'm excited! Planning to bring my Belle, who is very spoiled! She's already scheming for new outfits...

22. Oh, Snowgray, I love your Belle!
And as weird as this sounds, I also agree with Volk's decision for an age limit. It seems the young ones are usually better behaved than the 10 year old :P
I think I was feeling a little bitter because parents receive a lot of animosity in this hobby. I know that's not the point of this topic though, so I'll move on.
I never finished working on my f-29 girl so maybe this will be the kick in the pants to hurry it up and have her ready for dolpa.

23. I BOOKED MY FLIGHT.
AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHH!!!!

That's all :)
Probably gonna write Volks to confirm on my registration....as I was one of the early registrants who didn't get an e-mail.

24. I emailed them about confirming my reservation. Volks said they got it. Which... I figured they did... I think it's only that line about them confirming things that had me a bit worried...!

You'd think they'd just go ahead and confirm everyone's reservations instead of doing it one at a time, but maybe it's easier for them to do it this way???

25. reservation? doesn't volksusa website say people who want to attend need to start lining up at 9:00?
I live near by so I don't need to book a hotel if that's what people are saying about reservation.
sorry I'm confused....

26. bjmommy, you need the reservation to attend the Tea Party.

27. I am emerging from my years-long Super Dollfie slumber to attend. I am hoping they offer SD16 FCS again (with more head options). Otherwise, I'm just looking forward to being in LA for the first time in 9 years. Last event I attended was in 2008. Room booked, eyes on airfare for the right fare sale... I'm excited!

28. I hope they sort out the Tea Party thing soon and tell us who is in or not. That would help with planning...

29. Could someone please kindly send me the link for registration PLEASE!!!!!

THANKS!!!!!! ^_^

30. Volks posted on their Facebook that they will be emailing everyone who reserved for the tea party shortly. I haven't received mine yet but I was wondering who did?

31. Haven't received an email yet either. Made sure to check my spam, but still nothing yet~

32. They'll probably have the e-mails sent out tomorrow. I don't expect anything from them on a Sunday.

33. No email here either. Hopefully tomorrow!

34. Here's to hoping that they'll send out more details on the events with those emails. :eusa_pray

35. So time to wait till the end of June to see if we get into the Tea Party? Fun~

I actually don't care if I win or lose, so I guess I am fine with the wait. Just sucks for anyone who really wants to go!
Either way, good luck to everyone with their upcoming lottery.

36. I just hope that both my husband and me get in, it would really suck for only one of us to make the cut.

37. "here's an email to let you know you will be getting an email"
.... Thanks, Volks.

38. My thoughts exactly. And why end of June!? They're already a month late.

39. I was pretty hyped for this Dolpa. It's a bummer there will be a lottery. Knowing my luck when it comes to lotteries, I probably won't make the cut. Oh well, here's to hoping. *fingers crossed*

40. I'm also dragging myself out of BJD semi-retirement for this event. So excited!!! I even broke down and finally bought a YoSD Little Alice to complete my white-skin family. My Masha will be coming to the tea party with me -- if I get in, that is. Even if I don't, I'm going to go down anyway, just to see everyone! Did I mention, so excited!!?!!:dance

Is everyone staying at the convention hotel? I should probably get a move-on with a reservation then. Does anyone need a roommate? I don't snore -- much.;)

41. This is really frustrating -- I need to make plane and hotel arrangements if I'm going, and I don't understand why they need *another* month to run a lottery. Throw the names in a random generator and be done with it! :(

I'm not sure they understand that waiting so long is a hardship for people who need to travel or take vacation from work.

-- A :/

ETA: Wheeee, Kellyhime, that is awesome!! I'm looking forward to seeing you there! :D

42. My husband and I also entered. I rather him not go at all as long as I get in. Out of the two of us, obviously I will enjoy it more.

43. Amen. I don't understand why they need to sit on our names for a month.

44. Have they ever? Volks works in a world of their own. That's probably why we love them -- and hate them sometimes too.*sigh*

I'm looking forward to seeing you too, Ashbet!:aheartbea

45. And the wait continues.

I'm hoping that during this month, Volks can adjust their contract with the Marriott and get a bigger ballroom so less people are left out. =/

46. Yeah... Volks tends to leave things to the last moment... I'm not sure they understand that people are coming from great distances and need to arrange for time off well in advance. Maybe in Japan it works differently, the time off? And they can just hop on a train and be anywhere within hours? But it's a big country over here!

I'm lucky and live close enough to not have to worry about travel arrangements... But I definitely feel for you all who need the lead-time to sort things out!

47. Kellyhime I'll need a roommate, if I get into the tea party event. I won't go if I don't get into the tea party so I haven't made a reservation myself yet. Let me know if you end up making a reservation and want to room share though ;)

I'm slightly frustrated with having to wait another month to find out. I thought today was going to be the lottery result, not announcement that a lottery will be run.I already marked the time off work at least so I won't have to worry about that. I would like to be able to book my flight and figure out hotel arrangements sooner rather than later though. Volks always with the suspense.

48. I actually really frustrated and with each passing day I feel less and less likely to go. I need to book a plane ticket, arrange for my mother to take time off work so she can watch my son, my husband to take time off work to come down with me, and of course, I need time off too. Then I need to plan for the hotel/travel expenses since plan tickets are so expensive. Volks in my eyes used to be quirky and endearing, but now it just seems like incredibly poor customer respect. I'm sure they realize how large the USA is and we can't just hop in a car or train and figure it out the weekend before. They said they would let us know... they don't need a month to run a lottery.... give me a break :(

49. Great buggery bollocks. A month to run a lottery? That's like those unsubscription sites where you opt out of a mailing list & it says "please allow 6-8 weeks for these changes to take effect". Pfffft. Also refuse to believe that they're surprised they got enough entries to need a lottery in the first place. It's almost like they haven't had the past 10 years to notice trends in the US events.

Well, here's hoping! :clover

50. Sounds good, Nell!

I used the room/flight combo calculator on the Marriot website and got a quote for my flight and a room for two nights for $520, including tax, which doesn't seem so bad. I'm going to wait a little bit to book though, because there's usually a sweet spot for flights about two months in advance.

51. And some of us nuts already booked flights and hotels... Grr. I'm flying all the way from SC, so I'll be super sad if i don't make the lottery :(

52. I'm with everyone else on needing to make travel arrangements but I'm happy that Volks is even throwing a Dolpa for us here in the states. They could have packed up and left completely but they did listen to the fans and, though frustrating at times, this puppy is going to happen. I plan to go whether I get in to the tea party or not. It's not every day I get to spend time around such beautiful dolls and people. Patience my lovelies.

Sincerely,

Little Merry Sunshine

53. While I'm glad Volks does these things, I still think they are shooting themselves in the foot by not being at least a LITTLE better organized--so that they understand they need to work these things out quickly if they want people to come.

Sure, they can feel less pressure because there are so many people who want to come that they have no room and have to run a lottery, but it still sends the wrong message that they seem not to care enough to make things a bit easier on people who need to make travel arrangements and time off.

I live in SoCal so I don't have a horse in this race. I don't need to make travel plans. But I remember previous events--ALL previous events Volks have organized, since I've gone to the ones held here and looked at the ones held in NYC, etc. since 2006 or so, and they have always left things until very close to the event, (at least when they are the ones organizing it)... and I've felt for those who are traveling EVERY SINGLE TIME. I thought they were doing a bit better this time since they didn't wait until just a month or two before, but now it's getting to be about that much lead time again.

I'm not angry at Volks. I just wish they tried harder to run things a bit differently.

54. I plan on being there and really hope that I make the lottery for the tea! :) This will be my very first doll-related event... ahhhh So excited! Hope to meet some of you there! <3 Sarah

55. I'm glad there are still people willing to go even if they can't get in to the tea party. I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone again!

I suppose Volks needs some time to prepare the invitations. Since they wanted the name of the doll that will be attending with each member, I suspect there will be something personalized for each attendee. That takes time.

Despite their years and years in the business, Volks events never seem to go quite as planned, so maybe planning farther in advance means there would just be more confusing changes along the way? HQ has never been very good at listening to what the US branch tells them we want, and it's always painfully slow to change things in a top-down organization.

56. If it weren't for you @MissEmily I wouldn't have known to go in the first place, so I'm glad you decided to go!! XD

Ahh Yay!! I'm bringing my Volks Sakura, too :) We have to take pictures!

57. I'm really sad about all this, but I really am hoping I can get into the Tea Party, though. It would be really sad if my bf makes the cut and I don't, especially, since he isn't even in the hobby. Haha...:pout:

Hope to see you all, though, at the Dolpa!!!! That'll be fun regardless of the TP outcome. :D

58. I can understand your frustration, Staria . I have a 4 month old breastfed baby (who would probably just sleep in my sling the whole time and is not walking or crawling or even sitting up yet so wouldn't be touching dolls or even care about them- I also would take a crying infant immediately out of a room if that happened, which probably wouldnt) and when I asked Volks if it would be ok to bring her, they said no. Boo! Still, my family will be watching her close by, she will be starting solids by then (7 mo)and I will look at it as a mini mommy vacation by myself lol
