2. I'm really hoping to be able to go! The date works pretty well with my work schedule because it is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. :D

3. I'll be definitely goin' down. :> I've had to miss all of the previous USA Dolpas, but this time I've got absolutely no reason not to. Plus, it is right before my Bday!

I just hope it isn't a lottery event where you need to win in order to go like one of my friends is worrying about. ><;;

~~~
Booked my hotel~
4. I just opened my email and saw this. I'm super excited and really hope my work schedule will let me attend. *A* Can't wait to hear more about it!!
5. Very exciting news! I hope I will be able to attend even though I hate to fly! :sigh
6. Me. Hoping to be a vendor as well, like last time.
7. I nearly had a heart attack when I got the email! I've missed going to the NYC Dolpas so much, and never attended any of the LA events (in fact I've never traveled further west than Colorado :sweat) but I'm definitely planning on going to this! :D
I'm a little disappointed to see it's a one-day event instead of two, but that won't keep me from going. ;) Now I just have to save like crazy! Gotta be prepared for awesome oneoffs and/or limiteds. :XD:
8. I am going to try to make it! The timing is pretty good for me being able to take time off from work. I would love to see everyone again! Not sure I'd want to do it as a vendor again though.
The Alice theme gives me hope that maybe they'll re-release Alice? I'll be happy with any white Graffiti girl, really, since I'm pretty burnt out on all things Lewis Carroll in the BJD world.
A special one day FCS event with Grgirl options would be the best thing ever and I'd do whatever it takes to get there! /fantasy
9. My girl is already too excited about going.
It caught me off guard since I'm saving for a trip to Japan this summer, but since I live so close to California only one state over I think I can squeeze in this date. :D
I'm looking forward to meeting all the SD and DD fan there !!
10. What a lovely birthday present for you. :) I feel exactly the same way as you do!
Seems like we often have an Alice theme here? Maybe that means Volks will be releasing more Alice dolls this fall- unless they are making dolls specifically for the US Dolpa. Does anyone who has gone to the US dolpas have any information on their experience as to what the doll releases are like for events here?
11. Timing actually works out for me this time :dance :cheer :XD: I am definitely going :aheartbea
Can't wait to see everyone!
(yay got my hotel room booked <3)
12. I'm so excited I can't even. I've missed every Volks USA event due to stupid things, and due to travel expenses have never had the chance to go to an event in Japan either despite living here for years. I'm going to be in the US this summer and might still be there in September if I'm lucky. I really, really, really, really, really, really, really hope I can go.... after being a Volks fan for nearly a decade (.___.).... it's so awesome they're doing another USA event! Guess I need to pick a girl to travel to the US with me :D
13. I'm definitely saving the date and the funds. I want to make this event for sure.
14. This is amazing news! I thought they would never do another US Dolpa again after they closed the LA Sumika... so happy I was wrong. :dance
15. FINALLY!!! THEY ARE LISTENING!
LOL! Watch- they just re-release Charlotte and Liesolette AGAIN! I will DIE OF HAPPINESS if they release SDGr Lorina for this! I hope they'll have a pre-order.
Anyway- I am super duper going to go!! I have to start saving now!
16. Yes!!! I can't wait to see the limited Super Dollfies!!
17. @St. James, Alice/Lorina would make lots of people happy. But I hope there are new dolls, too! Maybe a nice SD16 big sister for Alice... or a white SD17 boy as a Knight, that would be cool!
@Chehime, Fingers crossed for Lorina since lots of people want her... but Charlotte and Lieselotte are on release 3! I hope they don't put them out again! :sweat
18. Alice/Lorina would definitely be a dream come true, though I have no problems with a Lieselotte re-release since I didn't win the lottery the last two times. I'm definitely excited about the Alice theme though. Here's to hoping there will be a tea party... :)
19. Hotel room is booked! :D Hopefully we can make it but I never know until much closer to the date because of my crazy family.
I agree, it's too bad it's only one day but it's better than nothing! I hope everyone who wants to go will be able. I know in the past, we had to apply and some people didn't get in. Here is hoping that no one gets left out.
I'm excited to see what they have planned for this event but I'm just going to be really thrilled to go and see everyone!
20. Do they have the room block open yet? I didn't see a link on the website...you want them to get credit towards their room block for your stay.
Volks has made appearances at several events in California in the past few months, so it doesn't really surprise me that they're trying another LA Dollpa. Hideyoshi Shigeta seems to be very interested in fan outreach, and has been very accessible when I've spoken to him.
21. We did too! >__<
I'm sure they will have some sort of room block, but either way, we want to make sure we have a room. We can always try to get into the room block later on.
Now here's to hoping they don't have too limited a space so we can all get in and they don't suddenly change the dates or venue. After we paid for our room and plane tickets for the VS LA Sumika closing, they changed the dates on us and we were locked into our flight, so we couldn't change it. I am so not buying air tickets early this time!
22. I was sure they were done with the states when they closed the store. It's nice to hear they're doing a Dolpa again! I'd love to go but it's such a long way to travel and I hate flying so much...
23. If they do similar to what they've done in the past, it would be more SD16 girls. I'm hoping this isn't true though. I initially wasn't a fan of them myself, they've grown on me a bit, but there's not really on my wish list at this time.
24. The date looks good at the moment but my wallet may not be able to make it after going to Japan this spring. :roll: We'll see.....would be nice to meet everyone.
25. I got into the hobby late so I was never able to attend any of the Dolpas they held in the past. When I read the e-mail this morning (and once the sleepiness wore off) I was really excited :-D Thankfully I'm local so I'll just be driving up to the venue (though I wouldn't mind sharing a room with friends). I'm also off that whole week so yaaaay~!
Being a DD collector I would really like to see Volks show some love for their vinyl beauties with items and possibly an event doll for this Dolpa. They always do such great things for the SD line so I want to see the same for their DD line :-)
Hopefully more information will be released sooner rather than later so everyone can properly plan for this~ Also hoping that ticketing won't be done by lottery XD
26. If possible, I'm going to come out of Super Dollfie retirement to go :)
27. I just started learning about Volks these past few months, but I've always been familiar with Dolpas (thanks to lots of videos on YouTube haha). But, can anyone tell me what exactly it's like? I'm a poor college student so I won't be able to do a lot of shopping, so what are the other things one can do there? I know they have makeup classes and I'm dying to do one of those!
If I could save up money I'd like to get an FCS boy if they do that again <3 one can only dream!
28. Booked my room also. :D I'm trying to trick my husband into coming with me but I don't know if he will be up for it. If he ends up not coming, I wouldn't mind sharing my room with a roommate!
I personally don't mind it being a one day event. I will have time do some sightseeing before heading back home.
29. muzik, assuming it goes like the previous one, there will be limited dolls and clothing for sale along with some non-limited VS items (they also brought things from some other Japanese sellers), and a lottery for One Off dolls. There was also a small vendor area, maybe 15 sellers. There was a dinner, where there were games and free prizes (almost everyone at my table won something!). There was a face painting class as well that they took X amount of applicants for and you could bring a VS head, or purchase a School head. There was also a pair of dolly doctors who would help you fix and repair small problems with your VS dolls. I can't recall if they did FCS? I think they did??
The thing to remember is that is is a Volks Event. While many of us brought other types of dolls with the to the hotel, we only brought our Volks dolls the various sponsored activities.
I didn't carry a doll around with me, it's heavy and tiring! But I went as a vendor, so I had a couple on the table.
30. I'm hoping for either a SD16 Alice/Lorina or a re-release of YoSD Alice/Lorina, to go with the Drink Me, Eat Me scene from the book and movies. =P
31. I'm so so happy about this news. I also hoped Volks would do another US event, and was always sad I never went to any of the LA Dolpas, only the NY ones. But even though I'm slated for a trip to Japan in late Sept/Oct, I think I'm going to try to make this. Thank goodness for those Delta skymiles I kept hoarding! I love Alice and all the aesthetics that come with it, so I might be pretty doomed if they release any cute Alice-themed boys. I'm also hoping beyond hope for maybe finally SD17 Tsukasa.
An SD17 Tsukasa as the Mad Hatter would pretty much be my absolute, end-all-be-all grail, if I'm dreaming big. xD I can't wait to see what they'll offer!
32. Oh, about time there's another Dolpa in L.A.!!! I was so hoping it would become a regular thing after the L.A. Mansion Parties and the one L.A. Dolpa, but there was a BIG gap. But this is wonderful news! AND they are planning it far enough ahead so that people can make travel arrangements, which is very important.
I'm local, so it's not a problem for me, but I like it when as many people as possible can attend these things. It's much more exciting! :D
33. Funny, I was imagining an updated SD17 white skin Tsukasa as the White Rabbit. ;) They've only done tiny versions of the white rabbit so far, right? Or am I forgetting someone?
34. Whelp, you just named my actual end-all-be-all grail that I didn't even think of! :D I'm pretty sure they've only ever done the little Yo White Rabbit, but nothing bigger. Didn't one of the NY Dolpa's have some Alice themed dolls, such as Williams as the Mad Hatter and a lovely SD16 Red Queen? I don't think they had a big White Rabbit, but I could be forgetting.
Now I'm just going to dream of a tall SD17 White Rabbit, who would look amazing next to an SD16 Alice...
35. I ended up booking a room mainly because I wanted to get one just in case they sell out ^_^ They don't have blocked rooms up yet (not sure if they will since it's only one day), but since the Marriott says you can cancel as long as it's 24 hours before check-in I figured I can always switch reservations later if they do come out with one.
36. Yeah, they were re-releases of the Mad Hatter SD13 Williams and the Cristal SD16 Red Queen, which is how I finally managed to score a Cristal ( turned into a boy >.> ) even though I wasn't able to attend the NY Dolpa. I think the FDQ association gave Volks a really skewed idea of what US fans wanted. At the 2007 LA Dolpa we were all ready to buy the big boys we'd all been begging for so the SD16 girls were met with some confusion.
Yeah, I hope they've upped their capacity expectations! The hotel at Dollism sold out long before everyone attending could get a room, and that was about 400 people? The Marriott is definitely a lot larger! The two largest ballrooms have capacity for 1700 ad 1450 respectively: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/event-planning/floor-plans/laxap-los-angeles-airport-marriott/ It would be awesome to have that much space for classes and contests and FCS and maybe vendors? I did already promise not to attend as a vendor this time so I can actually sleep and socialize! :D
37. I'm in the same boat as you in not be able to afford much (though, if I'm able to go I'm definitely going to save up as much as possible just in case) but I'm really super looking forward just to being able to see all the dolls and their people in person (^_^; not that I'm really close/familiar with any owners... pssst: accepting friend applications!). I'm from middle-of-nowhere USA and live in middle-of-nowhere Japan with little income so my chance to see dolls in person has been limited to the ones I purchase for myself/others, one teeny tiny non-Dolpa doll event, and two trips to Volks (one on total accident) years ago. And... y'know... being able to say "I've finally been to a Dolpa :D!"
Now I really can't stop thinking of the possibility of a USA Dolpa limited doll *_*.... or at least "LA Dolpa LE Version" of a doll. That and one offs! I have zero hope of winning one (heck, I can't even win a Volks after event lottery in the past 7 years..... -_-) but the web one offs that Volks USA has done have been amazing to the point I even entered for boy dolls which I don't collect! Definitely saving up the few pennies I can scrape together in hopes....
38. I think the very best part of any doll event is the socializing. You get to see old friends and maybe meet some of them irl for the first time! And you always meet new people. ^__^
39. I will be driving 10 hours, so I really wish it was a 2 day event. But I will take what I can get.
40. It's about time they released a Tsukasa! I'd love that so much!
41. It would be nice if Volks would run a poll for what dolls we'd like to see from them here. They really do tend to release a lot of "WTF" for the US market when in fact some of us dying for cute girls NOT SD16 bombshells.
I would also be super thrilled if they'd offer REAL FCS with all the heads they used to offer. Of course this is all adding up to even with 7 months to save I'll never make it!
42. I booked my hotel room too! I was so sad I missed Dollism plus because my dad got sick, but I cant miss this dolpa now! EEEK I can't wait.
43. Are there any events at this that require you to have a doll with you? My first two dolls (DD Ranka and Sheryl) are on order but they won't be here in time for the event. :pout:
Either way I'm really looking forward to this! I live maybe 25 minutes away so it will be only a short trip for me :dance
44. Diraess Volks events don't require you to bring any dolls, they only ask that the dolls you bring be entirely Volks.
I have occasionally swapped one of my Volks hybrids around so that they are back on their original body again so that I could bring a particular head sculpt.
45. If you really need a doll to carry, maybe you can borrow from a friend? I did that part of the time during the first L.A. Dolpa (of course, it requires trust, but with friends, that's usually OK).
But, right... many don't bother to bring dolls because they don't want to carry them or worry about them... It's definitely NOT required to have dolls!
And out of respect to Volks, who is running this event, only bring Volks dolls. I think that's fair enough.
46. As others said you do not need a doll to attend. There will be more than plenty to look at - so you can decide which one you want to get
I did not have any Volks doll back in 2007 when the last Dolpa took place in LA. I went with a friend - she did bring two so I helped carry one. But I had a lot of fun without having my own doll. I am sure you will too
***********
I totally missed the Alice theme thing in the newsletter - I really need some better reading glasses
I hope it will be Alice I have been waiting for her forever
47. We plan to come too! Guess need to go and book the hotel.
It feels like I'm also waiting for SDGr Alice forever, but maybe one day! ;) *consoles herself with the hope*
48. I'm so incredibly excited to finally get to go to a dolpa here! I'm also hoping for a SDGr Alice of my own. And this way my husband will be able to attend a dolpa too. :)
49. Yassssss. Definitely going, no doubt about it!
50. I want to attend this so bad! Do people organize shared rooms or anything here? I have done it with other events/conventions, but wasn't sure if doll people ever do that for these sorts of things?
I agree about the selection, Volks sort of puts out awkward releases specifically for US, sometimes they are great, and sometimes they are little more in the frame of "I am not sure what they are thinking". They need to continue with whatever sorts of themes they are doing back home, because we seem to like those more than anything, like traditional Japanese style, or street style. I guess we will have to wait and see. If the Alice in Wonderland theme is something that actually happens, they are certainly picking a strong starter to bring back Dollpas in the US.
51. I know Dollism USA had a shared room thread. Maybe we can start one for this convention too? I'd like to have a roommate if my hubby ends up flaking out on me. It would be more fun to have someone to share the room with.
52. Hmmm, yes, we need a room-share thread for sure, it isn't a long event, but maybe an extra day for who knows what in LA (which admittedly I can't stand as a city, but for Volks…ugh, I will make it, this time I won't be driving in that god-awful traffic!). The flight will probably cost me around 400, so saving anywhere else would be nice. Anyone up to start and keep track of a room-sharing thread, yeah? Anyone?...
53. I can start one once I get home unless someone else would like to do it. I'm planning on flying in on Friday and leave on Sunday or Monday. Haven't decided yet. I've never been to LA before so I'm kinda looking forward to it. I don't plan on renting a car though. Just take the shuttle from and to the airport. ^^;
EDIT: I asked the mods if it's okay to start a roommate thread. I'll post one if I get the approval.
54. Considering this is pretty much in my backyard, there's really no reason for me to not at least show my face, so I look forward to seeing some old faces and meeting some new ones. ^_^
55. This is so awesome! I'm definitely going:) whatever they have planned for doll release is fine with me. I will either have a chance to get a doll I love or save a lot of money, lol. I feel really lucky just being able to attend.
56. SOOOOO THERE!!
Cant decide about booking a hotel now?
Is it a large price difference in booking now and if they have a specific block?
Lmao its so far in the future i cant even book a flight yet! Its a easy flight from Northern Cali to LA though! :D
57. I dunno about the specific block part when it comes to price because I've never done that during an event (I've stayed local enough I didn't have to). But, the price seemed pretty much the same and worse case you have till 24hrs before you check in to cancel the reservation so if they do make a specific block for them you can simply cancel and remake the reservation. ^^
I did it now cause better safe than sorry.
58. It doesn't cost anything to book a room now, and they can always adjust your reservation if there is an event price. I'm thinking of tacking an extra day on ahead of time so that we can play and socialize a bit more. And Virgin Airlines does fairly regular sales on fares to LAX, so we just have to wait until the date is about two months away so it is in the sale booking window. :)
59. Just booked a room for Friday night! Was considering Saturday night as well, but does anything happen after the event that night? I imagine pajama parties and stuff Friday night. :XD:
60. so this might be a dumb question but, do you have to buy a ticket to attend this event?
